Up up and away is a totally serviceable comic and game shop. They carry all major comics and seem to be well stocked in Magic cards and Warhammer minis. The store is neat, tidy and well kept. That is all fine and and dandy. Where they loose me is everywhere else. I have been here several times and never once had an employee acknowledge me. The new books are spread out through the store and hard to find. With the lack of assistance offered by the staff this is very frustrating. I am also turned off by a store that doesn't seem to love comics. I haven't heard anyone talking, or arguing, comics on any of my visits. Not to mention it is way out on the west side, blech! It's to bad Up Up and Away doesn't try harder. I really feel it could be a great shop. Unfortunately for them, Cincinnati has better. read more

Being the over obsessive collector I am, it was a dark day when I discovered the magic that lies within the covers of a comic book. Now, I find myself visiting comic book stores almost weekly with a friend in search of something that is going to catch my eye. On one of our most recent adventures, we found ourselves at Up, Up, and Away!, a comic and game shop located on the west side's Harrison Ave. From the outside, the building looks a bit dated and maybe even a bit boring. However, after entering the store, you can tell this place is kept very clean and cared for on the regular. The store was bright, welcoming, and for the most part, easy to navigate. Along with carrying the weeks new releases, Up, Up, and Away! also has a good selection of back issues and other miscellaneous novelties to keep the customer entertained and their wallet open. However, Up, Up, and Away! did not meet my expectations across the board. First, and as another reviewer pointed out, the gentlemen at the counter did not even acknowledge my friend and I for the entire duration we were in the store, until we were ready to check out and leave. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, a friendly smile and hello goes a long way! Secondly, there were a lot of boxes that weren't labeled and it was hard to tell if they were just overstock, or something we shouldn't be looking through, or what have you. Who knows, we could have found some real gems in there, but those boxes will remain a mystery. At the end of the day, Up, Up, and Away! is definitely worth a casual visit. However, for the repeat customer, I would recommend Rockin Rooster over this place. The employees are friendlier, and their stock is way easier to go through and navigate. Nonetheless, I would hardly be opposed to returning to Up, Up, and Away! in the future. read more

We went for Free Comic Book Day. They were very busy. I'm not sure how busy it is on a normal day. Both employees and customers seemed nice. More than a comic book store. Up, Up and Away! also sells Lego, Disney figurines, and other cartoon items. I have both a girl and a boy, and both found toys they wanted. Their prices for Lego seemed to be on par with regular prices at the Lego Store or Target; a couple dollars less than Toys "R" Us. If you want to support local business, and are not sure what to give a child (or child at heat) for their birthday, a gift card from Up, Up and Away would be great idea. read more

LOVE this store! My son goes for all of his Magic game needs and I always find something superhero-ish to buy! So many fun items - not just comic books. We love the large variety of funko pops, too! This is the best comic shop in town! Absolutely filled with comics and other geekery! The staff is knowledgeable and attentive to the consumer! We always go with the whole family so that our daughters are able to pick out an item too. Never once has the staff acted uncomfortable with the kids looking through all the items. Which as a parent of responsible kids makes ya happy! Also, if you know you are unable to get to store on days comics are released ask an associate to start pulling certain comics for ya! This has worked out wonderfully for us! We don't always have the time to get to the store with all the activities and family life. So we never miss an issue! Great store! This is West Side gem, one that makes me wish I was on that end of town more often. The staff is always great and fun to chat with. It is a big space that allows you to wander around to find treasures. This shop reminds me a bit of my shop I went to growing up in Columbus that sadly is no longer with us. As soon as I walked in, it was near and dear to my heart. Bright and full of all the Pow! and Whack! fun you are looking for. They tend to organize a bit differently than other shops I've been too. They spread them out more by brand. (X-Men in the corner past the counter, DC on the back wall, etc...) This took me a minute to realize the first time I checked out the shop, but figured it out quickly enough. read more

Up, up and Away is a family run business located in the heart of Cheviot. They offer comic books, playing cards, posters, graphic novels and many other nerd related items:). The store is well lit, clean, organized, and is larger then most comic book stores. Everything is clearly marked and the new release section is organized by distributor, making it easy to find what your looking for. They carry one of the largest selections of new releases every month, including the hard to find variations. The new management has taken this once unfriendly store and turned into a family friendly atmosphere. I usually try to make my way to this location a few times a year for special events. This past May I was able to attend free comic book day at this location and meet Tony Moore, the co creator of the Walking Dead. I did not stay long, as the store became so crowded that I could no longer move. I would not recommend this day for causal shopping, but it is still fun. read more

If you buy a book that's has some value and they have it listed for a decent price its like they do a price check. I used to frequent this shop before the current owner took over, and I used to love it. This place kind of sucks now. The owner and some of the staff are those pretentious comic book people. There are two employees that are pretty nice, but that doesn't make up for the others. The store is very DC Comics oriented. It's a nice, clean shop with a nice selection of POP vinyl figures. Average inventory of TPB's, and not much more than that. read more

I have been frequenting this store for many years, and I have to say this store has never been better since the current owner (Kendall) took over. He is always friendly, and is incredibly knowledgeable about current comics, as well as the industry itself. The store itself is incredibly clean, and it is easy to find what you are looking for, and if you can't find it, Kendall will help, or order it for you if you are out. One of the best features is the pull list you can set up with Comixology. You can set up which comics/graphic novels you want that are released each week, or you can subscribe to series, and they will be pulled and set aside for you, even if you can't make it till Friday or Saturday of that week. I have never seen another store willing to hold anything past a few hours, let alone several days. Kendall also runs numerous events, such as Anniversarys, Artist Signings, and Costume Contests each Halloween that are always fun to attend. All in all, there are plenty of good stores in Cincinnati to purchase comics, but there is only one GREAT store, and that is Up, Up, and Away! read more

This shop has just jumped to one of my absolute favorite comic book shops I've ever been to. Anything you're looking for, they'll have it. Large back issue collection, giant selection of current and variant issues, great stock of kids items, toys, and older books as well. Not to mention that the owner is a knowledgeable and easy to talk to kind of person, and his personal experience with many of today's great artists leads to many great stories and art pieces he had to share with me. I will definitely be making a stop here any time I am in the area, and will be bringing anyone with me as well to share in this experience! read more

If you are looking for a great comic book store, look no further. This large store is very well organized, and its main man (Kendall) understands the unique sensibilities of his clientele... namely, he saves us from ourselves so we don't buy duplicate copies of issues we have already. Staff isn't very friendly. They never have in stock what I want (new issues, not back issues) and I just get generally disgusted with them. I live right around the corner and have quit bothering with Up Up and Away. Rockin Rooster on Glenway always has what I need so I never have to make a second(or several) trips or have to special order anything which may or may not ever come in. read more

I can never bring myself to give this store a single dollar of my money. My first run in with this store was back in Sept. of 2012, at the Cincinnati comic expo. I simply asked Kendall if he had the new (at that time) black and white statue of Jock's Batman. Not only did he have it, but he also had a ten minute speech to give me about how he was probably the only one at the expo to have it because he was the best comic store in Cincinnati, and he couldn't understand why I would bother spending my money elsewhere. After ten minutes of listening to him bash all the other comic stores there, I finally said no thanks and walked off. I waited a while before visiting Kendall's store again. I went just last week to see if he had any key back issues that would interest me. I figured I would try to give him the benefit of the doubt, and maybe he was just in an odd mood at the expo. That did not seem to be the case. There is no customer service at the store. Kendall stayed behind the counter, and played on his computer for the duration of my visit, and didn't acknowledge till I approached him. He has a unique way of organizing his back issues, as in iconic figures aren't clearly marked. I searched for half hour, and never once saw superman or batman back issues. He does pride himself on the huge TPB selection he has. He has signs all over his store boasting 'biggest TPB selection in area.' In the front of the store, is a shrine to his and Tony Moore's vanity project, the Cincy Comic Con. When I did approach him about a few key back issues, not only did he want double the market value of what the comic was actually worth, he couldn't help himself from delving into another rant about how he knows for a fact no other comic store in the area would have it in the condition he did, and he was giving me a deal. Then that somehow lapsed into how, and why he created the cincy con. I didn't even bring it up. He starts bashing everyone associate with the expo, and states he was the biggest sponsor there, because he is the best comic store in the area. Unless you want a piece of memorabilia from The Walking Dead, signed by Tony Moore, and you're willing to pay money equivalent to something signed by Stan Lee, don't bother going to this store. Plenty of comic stores in the area that aren't run by an arrogant child. read more

I've been to a lot of comic book stores, and I have to say that this is my favorite shop. There is a really good selection of single issues as well as trade paperbacks and hard covers. I also liked the collectible figures, of which there are a lot. There are some gaming selections, well stocked with Magic and Warhammer, dice, as well as rpg, and board games, but I think the main focus for Up Up and Away's is comics. The staff is friendly and not pushy or fake. It's common for regular customers to get into conversations with each other as well as the owner and staff because the atmosphere is friendly. They are not going to badger you into buying something you don't want, and if they think a book sucks, they will tell you so. No BS to make a sale. One of the things I like most about the store is that the staff isn't tired of their product. They still really love comics, and have a tremendous knowledge base. They are the main reason I go back. I uses to go here when it was Comic Book World back in the day but then i moved away for a lil while and came back to see that its now called Up Up and Away. they had everything i wanted from comics to action figures and more. the staff are very helpful, if they dont have something they will do what they can to track it down for you. plus the place is very clean and well orginized, easy to find what your looking for. read more

Best comic store in the tristate area. The most amazing thing is the cleanliness and how bright it is in side. My kids are always wanting to go visit the store to see the new comics and the Lego collections. The layout is really nicely done for catching your eye. I like comics but don't know enough about them and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful in locating exactly what you want. We go every Free comic book day and as often otherwise. They take and keep orders for you for when you can make it in. read more

I'm very disappointed... I use to shop at this store years ago when it was comic book world. There is a guy who works there Bill. Super nice and always helpful, knowledgeable and remembers you. The problem is this, we have been shopping there for at least 4 years. We spent anywhere from $50 to $100 every one to two months. We had a regular pull list and use to go in monthly. We ordered statues, games, figures and mostly comics, lots and lots of comics. Here is the thing, we started coming in every two months and we'd find our pull list put back. Bill would help us and recreate it with what he had in stock. Which for some reason the stock in this location was always low. No biggy we dealt with this for about a year. We had something come up and ended up being over 2 months since we grabbed our pull list. How is our loyalty rewarded? Maybe a phone call "hey you still want these?" nope... our pull list for 3 months was not only put back but we where deleted from their system and our store credit was erased...that is messed up. Enough is enough we'll shop online, there is some shady shit going on here. read more
