Whether a seasoned collector, gamer, or just getting into it all, the staff is always extremely helpful and happy to answer questions. For comics/trades/graphic novels, they have a huge collection of older books and new releases. If you're a Magic: The Gathering fan, they always have the latest sets as well as a good selection of older boosters and singles. I have been going to this store for over 25 years. When I was a kid, it was always a treat to go, and be able to get a few comics. As an adult, I go whenever a new comic comes out that I want. I've always found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Especially the owner and his family. They have learned what kind of books I like over the years, and will often make suggestions. They are rarely wrong on something new I'd like. read more

I started going to CBW 25 years ago when my husband and I were dating. I was impressed with the fact that Paul (the owner) could talk on a Ph. D., level concerning comics to my husband (Who is a comics historian) while at the same time educating me as a novice in the art form without making me feel out of place or stupid. Through the years I have watched the business and his family grow and I have come to appreciate many aspects of how the business are run. He keeps up with both old and new and has games, card, accessories for all levels and age-groups. With his long term customers, he knows them well enough that if he makes a recommendation or tells you that you won't like something, I have rarely found him to be wrong. He considerately will put something aside for you until payday which is held under your name since often people will put aside more than one item. As my family grew, I appreciated the fact that Paul is very watchful of the younger customers. He carries material for adult, teen and children's levels but he's not willing to make a buck by selling children things that not age appropriate. Some may consider that prudish, I consider that to be responsible and practical in this business age. I have had 25 years of good customer service from CBW and hope to have 25 more. read more

I uses to go to this store about 10 years ago and it was great! i just came back to town and decided to go check it out... not the same old CBW i remember. they had a small stock of new books, alot of old books but what i didnt like is that i noticed they dont seem to take very good care of their books. (if your a collector and go here, check your books). I hated to see the store i grew up with and loved turn to shit but i guess things change with the times. I'd have to say that the best comic book store in Florence KY would be Comics2Games, go check them out there only about 8mins from CBW. read more

Lots of comic books and a selection of overpriced tabetop games. All action figures are way high up out of reach. I'd have asked for help, but the guy working there just gave me a grim scowl when I walked in, so I just left without purchasing. I think this place is a staple of the area. When I lived in Northern Kentucky it seemed to be the only place outside of chains I could go for anything specific until more recent years. I really love their overall selection, which I think is their best quality. Their MTG selection is lengthy and well organized, they carry a good amount of dice and board games. I'm not sure if they rotate out their selection, because they seemed to carry more of the popular table-top stuff. Zombies, Catan, etc... But for a store trying to do it all, certainly not bad. Finally, their comic selection is as good as you could ask for. A great amount of used TPBs (which I love, but however as reviewer Charles S. also complained, are all vacuum sealed) and carry most major titles. The staff is pretty common comic-book store employees. Lots of behind-the-counter interaction and general "leaving you alone" type atmosphere. What lost the most stars for me, is that nobody seemed to go out of their way to make my experience great. They were content with me coming in to buy what I wanted, and leaving. read more

Wow. Really impressive store. Very well organized, with a ton of games, back issues, new issues, and figures. They had some awesome key issues on the wall, which they were happy to show me when asked. I made a purchase and asked if they had a piece of cardboard I could use to pack it to take on a flight. The woman at the counter grabbed a box they use to ship their online orders and expertly packed it for me. Needless to say, my book made it home in the condition it left the store. I love this place! I am not afraid to come in here and be stared down by the staff, which has been known to happen in comic book stores. I don't know a lot about comics, so it is funny that I write this review. Everything aside, I like that they can order just about anything in for you and they try to keep a lot in stock. I also like that they carry a lot of gaming stuff as well. I've always had a good experience stopping in and the staff is always friendly and easy to talk to. This place has a history of customer complaint issues. They can be rude and basically prudish to the point you would like to knock one of them out. I honestly hope they go out of business. Over the years I've had several issues, but these were the days before conveniently being able to get comics on your phone, nook, what have you. So there were very few choices. My latest encounter with the morons at this store was the last draw though. I order a comic book that was unreleased and not in great circulation (at least not for a store like this). You know you leave your name and phone number (I assumed so they can call you). Well I get to the store and the hag of the store asks me "the name" ok, wtf, so I say the name of the comic. Of course she continues to repeat her self like a moron. Apparently she was expecting my name. I dare you walk up to a random person and say "What's the name" while still expecting them to say their name. You have to be down right out of your damn mind. Granted when you make a reservation that becomes a thing or object to which you can refer to in a sentence using THE, you will almost never use the before your name for instance, because your not a thing or object. However this would require knowledge of what she was talking about, and knowing that there was reservation system going according to your name (also that the freaking huge letters of the comic are not huge enough for an old person). Instead of simply saying what's YOUR name, she had to be retardedly and improperly using English or assume I was psychic. After repeating herself several times and of course me thinking shes just a deaf old bat, I also repeat myself. Eventually she starts getting all rude and saying, "What am I a psychic?", the irony is freaking ridiculous. Comics2Go is pretty nice and very inviting. FREE comics! I went on free comic books day, and this location was participating. Their aisles are organized and the staff helps you find specific comics if you cannot find them. The parking was a bit scarce, but I imagine this place usually isn't as busy. It looks like it is the best store in this area. There were cover artists doing autographs when I was there also. The only concern I had was similar to another review I read -- their comics are typically sealed. Wouldn't you want to take a look at it first? You can't really judge a [comic] book by its cover, can you? Am I right? read more

I agree with a previous post. Everyone there is rude. They don't even look up when asking them a question. When putting in a total of approx. 70 dollars worth of comics, I decided I wanted to look at something else. The person as cash register got very huffy cause he had to ring me up again. Over a year ago I left a RAVE review for this Comic Book / Game store in Florence, KY. Since that time I have come to the realization that this store is not as great as I made it out to be. Yes they have a great selection of comic and games, however their customer appreciation is lacking, as is their reward program. If you buy comics, or books, ccg supplies (not including cards) you receive a customer reward card that you can use for discounts in the future. This is great for the comic book buyer, but where is the reward card for the gamer? If you are unfamiliar with ccg (collectible card games) take it from me they are not cheap. For example the ultra popular CCG Magic The Gathering: These cards are sold in a couple different ways, individually, booster packs (15 cards or so in a pack) ,booster box (36 booster packs) or booster case (6 booster boxes) single cards can range on price based on their rarity Booster packs sell for $4.00 (latest release, but tend to go up based on rarity) Booster boxes are $144.00 if you go by MSRP (36 booster x $4.00) but in reality you can usually find boxes for $119.00 in a retail store or $105.00 online. Back to my point, the cards are not cheap, and Comic Book World does not offer any reward program to you for buying their cards. The only thing they will give you credit for is if you buy ccg supplies (card protectors, sleeves, etc). Nor will they give you any discount for buying in bulk. On a recent visit to their location I was in need of several booster boxes of cards. I asked the counter attendant (middle age guy with glasses who is there every weekend) how much for a box of cards. His response was of course $119.00, I asked even though I already knew the answer from dealing with this guy in the past, what kind of deal could he give me if I bought a case, and without blinking an eye, he says $119.00 a box and then start ranting on about how they are making no profit what-so-ever on these boxes at that price. Which between you, me and everyone reading this review is a bunch of baloney. The manufacturer sells this ccg to stores for under $500 a case and this store is making at least $40 a box at this sales rate. Unfortunately for me, I was in desperate need of the cards (I sell cards online and needed to fill some orders) so instead of buying a case I just bought three boxes to the tune of $375.00 The store netted $120.00 profit on my purchase. I received no reward points for my purchase. And best of all I didn't even get a thank you for your purchase. Needless to say I will not be returning to this store ever again. read more

I've been shopping at Comic Book world for 30 years. They have a great selection of comics, games, and all of the supplies that you need. If they don't have it, they'll find it for you. It's probably obvious since I've been shopping there so long, but the folks that work there are the best. At the time of this review, CBW is doing a rewards program with their Spree Card. You get a punch for every $5 spent; after 50 punches you get a $50 spending spree/gift certificate/store credit. It's going to end up close to a 20% discount. They also have special events where they draw completed spree cards for bonus gift certificates. For RPG products, you can ask to have the shrink wrap removed so you can check the contents. No problem. I've been to stores that don't shrink wrap, and I'm glad CBW does. They participate in Free Comic Book Day and Free RPG Day... which is not free to them, just the customer. If you have comic books to sell, Paul will offer you a fair price and almost certainly the best offer you're going to receive. I have nothing but good things to say about Comic Book World. read more

I was visiting some friends in town and stopped in as I always try and visit comic book stores, toy stores, collectible stores and so on when I visit people or places. The staff was rather condescending and rude to me. They seemed annoyed I asked a couple questions. And I had to listen to them gripe and complain at eachother. I didnt feel very comfortable or even like they wanted me to spend money. The store looked old and run down. It wasnt very clean and was messy with boxes and junk sitting in isles. I just really did not like this place mostly because the staff was terrible. Fat people sitting at the counter stuffing their face and spitting food on the glass as they did, a rude man who just sat and complained about everything to anyone who came in the door. Even other customers got on my nerves, they were profoundly bothersome talking endlessly in a group at the counter loud enough I could hear them in the back of the store. I still browsed some looking for something I couldnt live without and found a very typical selection. No good figures to be found or statues. Their graphic novels and trade paperbacks were insanely expensive compared to what they cost on amazon.com (an omnibus for 100 dollars when amazon sells it for 50? Or walking dead compendium for like 70 when amazon sells it for 34? Come on). All in all I was not impressed and wont be going back in again when I visit florence. Between ebay and amazon you can do a lot better and save money and have a much much larger selection. On a side note. After a google search I found a place called comics 2 games in florence also and went in there. The store was smaller but they had so much more variety and more merchandise. Especially figures and cool little toys. The staff seemed friendly enough and chatted with me. I spent a couple hundred with them because they had more stuff, the prices were reasonable, staff was friendly and they were more of a local hometown business that I want to support. But it was mostly because the staff was much nicer than the other place and didnt feel fake/forced and just wanting to me to buy something and get out. I also reccomend buying your comics online instead of them. You get literally 1000xs the selection with a lower price delivered right to your door. Not to mention they always have anywhere from 40 to 60% off sales on EVERYTHING quite often, they email me about their specials. Especially mile high. Although this is not my top pick of stores in the tri-state area, it is number 2. The have probably the best back issue selection. If. I can't find it at my usual comic store, they have it. I appreciate the fact that all their comic are bagged and boarded in the bins, and the TPB's are still sealed as well. Maybe I just like unwrapping something new, as opposed to paying full price for something that's clearly been read multiple times by others. CBW does do something I appreciate that nobody else does, they put a photocopy of key issues in the regular bins, so you know what they have without having to ask. 'Do you have fantastic four 48?' These key issues are at tad higher than I think they should be going for, but they're not outrageous like some stores. My only complaint with the store itself, is when there's gaming going on. The store is on the smaller side for what all it's trying accommodate in the space. I've gone in once when a heroclix tourney was going, and I couldn't get to some of the back issues because the tables were to close to the boxes. read more

This use to be the place to go when I was a kid. However, customer service has went downhill. The only person pleasant to deal with is the owner. Avoid the man with long hair and glasses he is very rude. Comic prices are fair. Trading card prices are terrible most cards are priced double what they go for on TCGplayer.com which is what stores should be using to price cards. read more

This its my preferred local game and comic book store. They're always very helpful and willing to help you any way they can. The regular crowd that comes here to play Magic is also one of the reasons I like coming here. Highly recommended overall! read more

I agree with the above poster. He is rude and thinks everyone that walks in is ignorant when it comes to comic book knowledge. He will try to quadruple his money when making you an offer, much worse than most comic book dealers. Stay away from this place!!! read more
