Super fun date night. We went early on a Saturday evening so we got 40 tokens for $5! Each game is only 1 token. A few games weren't working but with them all vintage I'm sure that's bound to happen. There were plenty to choose from to make up for it. I really enjoyed the pinball machines, Mrs Pac-Man, and the shooting games. The drinks were reasonable priced and it was nice to have cup holders all over. They did have a donut vending machine and served pizza by the slice which we did not try as it didn't look too appealing. It's definitely not a fancy place and it's standing only but the entertainment, friendly staff and prices make up for that. Be prepared to pay for parking and walk, especially if it's busy.

Up Down is an arcade bar in Uptown in Minneapolis. I've been here a few times, and most recently stopped by for a Yelp event. It's a buzzy space in the heart of uptown, so parking be hard to find. There are lots of arcade games -- from classics to new games. Unfortunately some of them seemed to have malfunctioning coin slots and a few were out of order. That said, they are all very fun and they offer special deals on tokens throughout the week. The pizza was great. It's 5 dollars for a normal slice and 6 for a specialty slice. A bit steep but the slices are HUGE. We liked the Cheese pizza best -- felt like comfort food at its best; but the Mona Lisa was no slouch either.

First off, love the queer acceptance vibes this place gives off. Upon stepping inside I quickly noticed the pride flag banners and even a trans pride flag on the wall. Small displays like that immediately set me at ease because I know I'm in a safe space. Obviously the best part of this place is that tokens are a mere 25 cents. Considering the cost of... well, everything nowadays, that feels like a steal for some fun. Now, my preference with arcades is prize redemption games or games you win tickets, but this place doesn't have anything like that, it's all arcade cabinet games like shooters, beat-'em-ups, Atari classics, racing games, side-scrollers, skeeball, and pinball machines. It's all 80's and 90's retro stuff, so don't go expecting any turn of the millennia stuff like DDR or Guitar Hero or anything like that. The token machines accept bills only, but there are ATMs available if you need them. Many flat screen TVs hung around playing old-school movies. They had Space Balls and Beetlejuice on while I was there. The theming around the place is fun with neon and lots of 80's references like Back to the Future. Pizza is available towards the back. It's $6 for a reasonably large slice. I got the mac n' cheese pizza and it was hot and tasty. They have various drink specials and some non-alcoholic options as well. There are a couple water coolers and glasses about if you want some water. This place has a plethora of deals each day of the week, so you can visit any day and know you can take advantage of something. There's a coat rack at the entrance. You can also get your hand stamped for re-entry if you don't want to have to repeatedly show the attendant your ID. There's an outdoor area as well as an upstairs patio, though I didn't get to have a look at it on my visit since it's mid-November, it was closed. I forwarded along some photos to my brother and he commented that I was required to take him there when he comes to visit, haha. This place is for sure right up his alley.

Meat pizza slice + beer

Date night at this arcade bar was a hit. If you want to escape the noise of the arcade area, there are two outdoor patios (which had a fire feature for some extra warmth) or a rooftop bar. The list of retro arcade and video games is extensive, and there is something to appeal to everyone's inner child. We spent the evening playing vintage games like Pac Man or pinball games. There is also a giant Connect 4 board, Skee ball, and so much more. Pizza is sold by the slice for $5-6 a slice. The meat slice was piping hot, cheesy, and had a decent crust. It reminded me of a NY slice. The bar had several beers on tap, specialty cocktails, and a full bar. The bar prices seemed quite reasonable. Tokens for the games are $.25, although when we were there a bar purchase scored some game tokens, too. There is metered street parking. Note: This place is LOUD; if you want to tame the noise a bit noise canceling airbuds would serve you well.

The 80s kid inside me is so happy when I visit this place! Such a fun concept to have a vintage arcade bar. I didn't eat here, but drinks were good and the service was ok. Fun (5/5) I LOVE video games, especially in the early days when there was just a joystick in 2 buttons. My favs included Miss Pac-Man, Tron and Killer Bee. Value (5/5) Check out their specials since they often have 2 for 1 tokens. A friend of ours stopped in before we grabbed dinner to take advantage of their 2 for 1 tokens special that ended at 9pm today. However, I hated paying $2 per hour for parking.

We had so much fun here!!! The pizzas are delicious, think crust/more nyc style slices which I loved. And super affordable if you order an entire pie. Remember to bring cash to exchange for game tokens, lots of different arcade games including dance dance revolution, pinball, and ski-ball!

Had a great time playing all of the old school games. Especially loved skee-ball. The pizza was pretty good as well. I still have tokens to use, so am going to have to find one near my city or come back to Minnesota. Staff was mostly friendly.

For GenXers and perhaps Millenials, this is a great place to relive some of your misspent youth with a wide variety of pinball and video games along with big Jenga and skeet ball. The atmosphere is what you'd expect at an arcade- a little dungs and dark, but who cares? You're there for the game. We went early evening (5pm) on a Saturday and it was already a little crowded, but the wait for any given game was very short. It is probably much better earlier in day or on a weekend. They have a limited menu with pizza slices and a few other item. At the bar they have a wide selection of taps, a decent looking cocktail list and a decent wine selection as well. The only thing I would have liked better would have been a few nonalcoholic brews on tap, though they did have one in a bottle. A fun and not that expensive place to spend a few hours.

Upon further investigation, I learned how it all works post speaking with the staff member. First off, the pinball exterior machines are ran by a totally different company than Starcade and all those machines are .25 cents each. Starcade is stucked inside the former giant main restaurant of Keg and Case which offers unlimited gaming for $20. All the machines are set to free play after you pay the fee. There is a bar serving basic snacks such as chips, pizza and on tap local sodas. The liquor license was just recently obtained and the staff seems to think this will get rolling out within the next few months. I'm not a gamer, yet I can tell you lots of games exist vs. just pinball like the exterior. Inside Starcade, you will find both a main level and upstairs (where the former brewery was). It's dark, there are fun twinkle lights and LED signs. Starcade used to be located within Rosedale Mall so come give a warm welcome to them as they lay roots in Saint Paul! I look forward to returning and trying some games. It has a Can Can Wonderland feel but less complex. I'm very glad the building is getting used as it's a beautiful venue. Enjoy!

All entrants pay an admission fee (kids under 5 years are free), and all video games, kids rides, and older-style games are free to play. Mini golf and some other activities are Ala carte. There is street parking and an underground parking lot, but, on weekends, parking can be tough to find. There is a cafe to purchase food. Options are flatbreads, baskets, tacos, and more. The food quality is pretty good, but pricey. I get it. The place probably has large overhead costs, so a business needs to make its margins. There is also a beverage wall with various kinds of drinks (mostly-all (?) alcoholic), which are self-pour. I forgot to take photos. Trust me when I say the place is very unique and is great to check out. Pros: - Great place to bring kids - The older-style games are very amusing Cons: - Food is on the pricier side

It was explained to me that the whole thing was run off an iPad in the back room. We went for New Year's Eve had a lovely time, food was great as usual. They even brought out one of my favourite pinball machines as a request. The only thing I could knock a star down for was I paid over $10 for probably the worst milkshake I've ever had. Seriously, the milkshake wasn't much thicker than water. And it was very small. Other than that, I'll just remember not to get the ice cream next time. The best thing about Can-Can Wonderland is the fact that it's a real arcade, not a kiddie ticket casino. And in the evening it becomes a very nice adults only place but still doesn't feel like you're gonna get in a bar fight but you can simply just have a good time..

It's kind of amusing this is called LITT when it's so dark inside; yeah, I know they mean the other kind of lit! The general darkness is perfect for the massive array of pinball machines (they take quarters!) and also sets off the Halloween decorations. The booths are also sparkly copper colored so that makes them stand out. Good quality bar food all around, most of our party got some kind of sandwich and fries, so I made sure to steal a fry which was nice and crisp.
