While touring downtown Birmingham on my first night out with my friend who lives here, he took us to Up-Down Arcade Bar -- and let me tell you, I can't wait to go back! As a transplant from Atlanta, I have to say the gaming bar scene there feels limited. Battle & Brew is probably the most well-known, with its endless screens, gaming consoles, and themed nights -- but Up-Down manages to capture that same fun energy while feeling more personal and connected. This place has everything you could want for a great night out: outdoor seating, an outdoor bar, and an endless lineup of arcade games, including a whole wall of pinball machines. You'll find everything from the classics like Capcom titles to newer favorites like Mortal Kombat. What really set it apart for me, though, was the outdoor setup. The terrace above the bar is the definition of a vibe -- great lighting, awesome atmosphere, and plenty of perfect photo ops. They even have outdoor games like cornhole, which added to the social feel. Huge shoutout to the bartender working outside that night -- she was a local and super friendly, giving us a list of other cool Birmingham spots to check out while we were in town. If you're looking for a place that's got character, fun, and a whole lot of energy, Up-Down is it. Whether you're here for games, drinks, or just good company, this is the kind of spot that makes you want to stay all night.

One word...nostalgia!! This is a great, fun environment! Good pizza and drinks! Friendly service! My all time favorite throwback game...Skeeball! What a classic! Tons of pinball machines, Pac-Man and other arcade games I remember from the 80s and 90s. And because it deserves mentioning and not often reviewed, the bathrooms were well maintained and perfectly cleaned and stocked.

Came here to hang out and play some arcade games. They have all the classics from childhood under one roof. Pac-Man, Skee Ball, Dig Dug, Tron, & Mortal Combat just to name a few. They also have $2 pizza slices if you get hungry and a big variety of craft beer. Cool spot to feel like a kid again and play some games.

I really enjoyed my first time at Up-Down Arcade Bar 05/01/25 after leaving the Barons game. There was a pretty thick crowd but not overwhelming. They were checking ids upon entering. The bar service was fast and the bartender that assisted me was a joy! There are many beer options and cocktail options to pick from, so you will definitely find something. There are cups and water available as well to stay hydrated. I didn't eat any pizza but it smelled yummy. I had a beer and played a few games. I still have tokens left.... Pac man , galaga, ms. pac are some of my favs so I was glad to see them here. Now, there are some games that need maintenance... specifically, the basketball game did not keep score so don't waste your tokens. Move on! Play something else! lol Overall, I really enjoyed myself. This is such a great addition to Birmingham, Alabama. I can't wait to return to play more games, enjoy the outside spaces and grab some pizza!

So I did a thing. I attended an event here and really didn't know what to expect. Old school video games, you say? I'm all in!! This place offers street parking that's free, after certain hours. There's also paid parking available. Very easy walk up pizza, arcade and drinks. The staff was very welcoming at the entrance. This is definitely an adult arcade. Sometimes "good and grown" folks want to play some games, eat some pizza and have a drink. Great nostalgic vibe inside. You become immersed in the Galaga, Pac-Man, pinball, Mario Brothers and other games of it all, and realize fun is being had without any pressure. The pizza was really good, the drinks looked good and the music was hitting right, creating a fun relaxing but energetic atmosphere. Hey, I'll be back with some of my friends for the margaritas, games and pizza.

Nice craft beer selection, arcade games, interesting pizza choices, outside seating, frozen, margaritas. What else could you want? My husband and I had a great time playing our old favorites, pinball, Skee ball, and my most favorite of all Centipede!! Once we finished inside, we were happy to see there were more games outside including corn hole, jenga and connect 4. Fun way to spend an afternoon, and tokens were $5 for 20. Be warned, some games take 2 tokens.

We are always weather ready....rain gear!!!

When I say...."Take Me Back"!!! It was so much fun hanging with Ginger and the team. We had good pizza and the mango drink was the adult only kind. The staff was friendly and was helping before I even asked. They are mind readers. Great time was had. This place is for adults and there was no smoking inside. Love that part.

Great place for a fun date night! I came home to Birmingham and I went straight here to check it out and play games and eat great pizza with good drink prices. A good place to hang after the Barons game.

Left the Baron's game to play PacMan and anything else we saw that looked entertaining. There is a pretty good selection of games available so there is something for everyone. The pizza wasn't bad and bar service was relatively quick for the amount of people that were there. I ran into a couple of people I knew and even have some new college babies under my wing now. This is definitely a hang out spot for the younger crowd (still enjoyable if you aren't a college kid). Things got a little weird outside around 1/1:30A but security was on it. Some games are outside as well like cornhole (I finally learned the rules... I still don't see the appeal), connect four (smoked the college kids in C4), jenga, etc. Up-Down is a nice addition to the area. I'll most likely be back.

Was hesitant at first to visit since that other location is my favorite in Nashville. However I was surprised just how good the design and layout was handled in a smaller footprint. The bar staff is truly amazing with each visit. The pizza is some of the best you'll find downtown. The indoor space might seem a bit confining but has just the right balance of games spread out. The spacious adjoining open air patio with tiered storage container seating definitely adds to the experience.

I really enjoy playing old-school video games and the nostalgic atmosphere of arcade venues and it makes me feel like a kid again. There are plenty of gaming options to choose from, along with food and drinks available for purchase

I just have to say, this bar is an absolute gem! It's packed with awesome vintage video games that will take you right back to your childhood. Plus, you can't beat the price - the pizza is only two bucks! It's the perfect place to gather a group of friends for a night of drinks and good times on the weekend. I love stopping by before big events like the Barron game or catching the Alabama symphony at the park in the summer.

I came here this past weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday! We had the best time! There is so much to do here! There are arcade games galore, pinball, basketball, Mario Kart, dancing games, Connect 4, and cornhole. The venue itself is super big. You can buy tokens to play the games, and they give you a ton! They do serve food and drinks here although I did not get any, I will definitely be back to try them!

Our manager paid for us to play 60 minutes. Before we went, we had to complete a waiver online and choose our game name. There were restrooms inside where you could change clothes (cause I heard if you are competitive, you would sweat a lot). They also have lockers - activated by a wrist key fob - so you could put your purse and keys somewhere safe. It's a dark area full of arcade rooms (maybe about 10 or 12 rooms in total). Each room has several games from which you can choose to play. Our group of 12 people were split into 3 teams of 4. The front desk attendant gave us all a wrist fob that we had to activate with our game account. The attendant explained how to play. Choose the game, all players scan their fob, then wait until the current team playing in the room exits before you go in. Scores are based on how well you do. If there is no one waiting outside the room after the game completes, you can move to the next level and continue playing. My team's first couple of games went so wrong and we questioned ourselves and our lives many times while playing. However, we got the hang of it and enjoyed ourselves so much! My favorite game was in the "Grid" room, where they called a color and the team had 5 seconds to get to a space with that color. So fun! If you are looking for a fun place to "be a kid again", this is the place to go!

My friends and I played some pool, had some drinks and then decided to leave. Before leaving, my best friend and I decided to go to the ladies room. Upon discovering that all bathrooms save one were full, we elected to go into the single available bathroom together. I will at this point acknowledge that there was a sign on the bathroom door that said "one person at a time" that we did not see initially. After entering the bathroom, but after I had disrobed to the point necessary to use the bathroom, we heard someone BEATING on the door saying only one person allowed at a time. We explained through the door that one of us was in the process of using the bathroom, and that we would be out shortly. The banging on the door continued, and, when I stated that I was mostly naked (to use the bathroom) this person returned "I bet you are." Once we were finished using the bathroom, this person ( a man who was identified as one of the owners by a friend, but not confirmed as such by me) aggressively confronted us about the bathroom policy, sayin we would be kicked out. I told him I was about to leave anyway, and that we'd only decided to go into the bathroom together once the other bathrooms were deemed full, and that, further, it was more efficient to use the bathrooms in pairs, where one person used it, while another washed their hands. He was not receptive to this feedback and further pointed to the sign. Upon walking away, the women he was with even stated that I was "such a b*tch", to which he did nothing. If this was an owner, I am appalled at the treatment of a patron. Had this been handled differently, I would have gladly offered an explanation and apology. Further, if this owner allowed his guest/date to insult me loudly across the bar, it makes me wonder what else they allow. If this is someone not affiliated with the bar, which, based on the passion of the affront, I doubt, I encourage the bar to better police their patrons, as this encounter made me feel very unsafe. I won't be back.

Management is non existent when it comes to helping servers. We waited 30 minutes for a table, which was clearly because they were short staffed. Okay fine, no problem. If we have to wait so she can get caught up and we can get good service, that was fine. But it wasn't. The server was so overwhelmed because she was in charge of every single table in the establishment. At one time, she had 14 different tables going on. At no point did the manager think to hop in and start taking drink orders, food orders, anything. Which is SHOCKING to me. You're there to help your team when there are issues. Get your hands dirty or find another line of work. Half of our group ordered, and then our server went to check on other tables (clearly our mistake telling her to check on her other tables - because we could see she was overwhelmed and we were a group of 15). It was a true 30 minutes before food came out and the other half of our group was then able to begin ordering their meals. The food came out for the second round of orders (which should have all been done together), but we were still missing 2 meals from the first group. We waited 90 minutes from the time of ordering to get the final 2 meals. I truly wish I was joking. The manager came over the THIRD TIME after telling us the food was coming to say "when I put those orders in, there was like 20 tickets ahead of it, that's why it's taking so long." As someone that's worked in restaurant my entire life, ON THE FLY MEANS ON THE FLY. Not after you finish the other tickets. She took zero responsibility for the situation, lied and gave our group the compete run around for 30 minutes. To be clear, the missing orders were a QUESADILLA and a PHILLY CHEESESTEAK. Not some outrageous order. The server somehow didn't ring them in to begin with (which is so weird because they literally have tablets on them for placing orders). But the manager assured us on TWO different occasions that they were coming. It was only on the third visit, we were met with this excuse. Our server began crying at the POS system after another (I think?) manager came over to her telling her we'd been waiting for our checks for 20 minutes. A dad from our group just went over and paid for the entire check on his own because we had been seated since 7:00pm and it was now 10:00pm. We were sat for 3 hours and felt held hostage to try and just leave. I still can't wrap my head around it. This is so clearly an absolute failure in management. If you're short staffed, you pick up and help. There was zero apology, just a few "power up" cards passed to us and a comp on the two 90 minute wait food dishes (uh, yeah, duh). As if we'd have any interest in spending another second there. I kept joking that if there ever was a time for someone to come in and do an undercover boss episode, this is the location. To do it so you can see how hard your business is failing. Your management is the worst I've ever seen. I oversee 15 restaurants throughout the state of Florida and I can absolutely assure you, if this was happening in one of my stores, it would be an immediate termination from my management. She never once showed sorrow for what was happening. She was defensive and argumentative when met with any type of frustration from us. This is hands down the worst experience I've ever had. If you go to Dave & Busters, whatever you do, DO NOT SIT DOWN AND ORDER FOOD. Just grab a drink at the bar and play some games. No need to to reply to this publicly and try to save face, I'll be sharing my experience on every other review site and reaching out to corporate about this. Take your L on this one, learn from it, and do better. Because this was horrid, and as a business you should be so embarrassed at the entire guest experience.
