I reviewed this place over eight years ago, and I don't remember that occasion at all. I don't even remember the circumstances that I would have been in Lakeview area during that period of my life. Either it wasn't a memorable occasion or my memory is failing. Maybe a little of both. Today my buddies and I stopped for lunch after playing golf at Highland Park. The lunch crowd was kind of light. The menu offers a nice variety of items including tacos, wings, sandwiches, and burgers. Also, I like that offer five or six draft beer options. I had the Cheeseburger all-the-way with a side of cole slaw. I thought the burger was very good. I didn't care for the cole slaw. In my opinion this place is pretty much a dive bar. It is known as a venue for live music, and reminds me very much of bars I might have frequented during college.

Very pleased with this establishment. The staff is awesome, good great and the various events are great. Love the running group that meets there and centrally located in Birmingham. A must visit for anyone in town.

help me im smothered in buffalo tenders. Thursday, October 31st. The city streets are crowded for the holiday. Even with the rain. Hidden in the chaos is the element, waiting to strike like snakes. And I'm there too. Watching. 2 years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal. I must choose my targets carefully. It's a big city. I can't be everywhere. But they don't know where I am. We have a signal now, for when I'm needed. When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call- it's a warning. To them. The TENDERS

Loud music!!!! :)

Odd little place to say the least, we came here on a Saturday night while we were working on our big night out badge ;) the reason I say odd is they cater to everyone. On the front side of the house they had a DJ and he was doing an awesome job. On the backside of the house they had a live band... also which was really good... and in the middle of it all was a huge bar serving what seemed like 50 folks... Great place t hang out and dance/drink and have a good time!!

Definitely a happening place on the weekend. We came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed. There was a dj in the front of the house playing hip hop, etc. I paid a visit to the bathroom when I first got there and was surprised to see that it was actually pretty clean. I could have stayed there half the night reading the bathroom walls. Lol. Definitely got an education. The back of the place is open to the outside and there was a live band playing. The band played a mix of music but tended toward country. They were a great band and kept the audience on it's feet. I enjoyed the drinks here. Good bartender. The crowd was mostly twenty somethings, meaning we were the old timers but we still had a good time. I would come back again. Fun for a night out!

This place has the worst, most narcissistic DJ I've ever seen. Can't let anyone just sing a song without adding any commentary.

It's a dive bar. If that's what you're looking for, then it'll work! The food, drinks and service are on par with a really good dive bar.

Wooden City is located off Morris Avenue in a shared row of older buildings. There's a private parking lot behind the building, and you can have your parking ticket validated at the restaurant. The location and vibe on Morris Avenue are really neat and uniquely Birmingham. It's a great addition to the city's dining scene. Our party of four started with drinks and shared three appetizers: the Bread and Butter, Heirloom Tomatoes, and Steak Tartare. My favorite was the Bread and Butter. It's house-made focaccia served with a sun-dried tomato spread and an oil dipping sauce. The bread was amazing. For my entrée, I ordered the Peel-and-Eat Shrimp from the appetizer menu. It was fabulous--a generous portion of large shrimp that were perfectly seasoned and grilled. For dessert, we shared the Chocolate Mousse and Blueberry/Blackberry Crisp. The crisp was my favorite. It was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream--an excellent way to finish the meal. While Wooden City doesn't have a large menu, everything we tried was very well done. I definitely recommend giving it a try, but don't be in a hurry. The service was a little slow during our visit.

We snagged some seats at the bar and had some drinks and shortly after that, our table was ready. And they were able to keep everything on one check, which was nice. No need to settle the tab and start a new one at the table. And the old fashioned I had was delicious. For food, we started with the Hungarian Hot Stuffed Peppers. These were pretty good and the heat gradually snuck up on you as you ate them. I don't know if it was because the heat was more intense as you worked your way towards the stem or just a gradual burn. Either way, these were good and worth the heartburn later. The thick focaccia helped with the burn a little. Speaking of heartburn, the pepperoni pizza may have contributed a bit to that too, but again, totally worth it. The cup-and-char pepperoni was charred nicely as were the edges and bottom! I love a nice bottom! These were easy to share between two of us. Service was amazing from the bartender to the waiter to the uber driver (who didn't really count, but nice job, man). We felt welcomed and I can see why the place was crowded on a Tuesday evening.

We weren't expecting to…read morestumble across such an elegant restaurant serving truly elevated food, but it ended up being one of our favorite meals. I ordered the seafood pasta, and you could immediately tell the pasta was homemade. It was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the seafood was beautifully prepared. My daughter had the spaghetti, and my husband ordered the Waldorf salad, which was just as thoughtfully put together. Our waitress also recommended the hummus and house pickles, and I'm so glad we listened. Both were fresh, unique, and the perfect way to start the meal. From the food to the service, everything felt polished without being pretentious. It was one of those meals where every dish was executed with care and attention to detail. Overall, The Essential was such a pleasant surprise and proof that you can find five star dining experiences in the most unexpected places. The interior has a nostalgic, warm vibe and would be a great setting for a date night. Our server was awesome! He was friendly, attentive, and recommended some great food and drink options. I also really enjoyed the open-kitchen concept, as I always like being able to see the food being prepared. My only concern was with a couple of things I noticed in the kitchen. Since the kitchen is completely open and visible to guests, I think extra attention should be given to sanitation and overall presentation. I noticed one of the cooks drinking while preparing food, and another wiped his nose with his arm while working. Although he didn't use his hand, it still left me feeling a little uneasy. When guests can see directly into the kitchen, those small details really matter. Aside from that, we enjoyed our experience, and I do think this is a place worth trying at least once. The atmosphere, service, and recommendations from our server were definitely highlights of our visit.

Back Forty is huge-with plenty of seating to accommodate large crowds, couples or even families with little ones. There's plenty of big screens to watch the games on, and I would really love to come back during football season to do just that. I ordered their infamous Back 40 cheeseburger on this visit. While it wasn't my favorite, for a brewery it was definitely above average. It was juicy, made to order and fresh. I didn't care for the sauce nor the stringy onions so I would order it plain next time or try something else on the menu. The shoestring fries were well seasoned with something like garlic parmesan. They were my delicious! The staff were friendly and helpful as we placed our orders. This is a cool spot to hang with your friends, drink, eat and watch some sports or watch the trains go by.
