I took my 10 1/2 month old Yorkie named Olive here today for the very first time. They have excellent Covid precautions. Kim came out first, she was so friendly and professional. She then got Olive's groomer, Shannon. She was great in understanding and listening to my concerns because Olive can be nervous when going to the groomers. We discussed Olive's hair being matted in some places and that her hair will need to be shaved, which I appreciated her letting me know in advance. Olive was ready in about 2 hours. SERIOUSLY THE BEST. The grooming job done on my dogs always comes out wonderful! The staff was also really friendly. Kim, the owner, seems very personable with her customers and even with the other businesses around her :) I usually take them Saturday mornings around 9 am every 1.5 months. They are always done around 10:30 AM-11AM. Ashley and Han, who usually work Saturdays, are amazing groomers! I've tried several groomers in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Unleashed is still the best one around and I will go out of my way to come here! $75/small dog for a full groom + tax + tip (as of Nov 2014). I wish I had checked the price list on the website before going in though because I just looked through the reviews on Yelp and went in. I was short on money (cash only!) that I ended up tipping the groomer less than what I originally planned to tip. I'm glad to have found a dog spa where it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg for my dog to get a trim. It's so far from where I was coming from, but it's definitely worth it...can't beat the prices! I love Unleashed, and I can't believe I haven't written a review for them yet! Like other reviewers have said, the groomers are extremely kind and attentive to their customers (animals and humans alike) and listen to/follow through with any and all special requests for a cut. My dog always leaves smelling delicious (like blueberries!) and wearing an adorable bandana to boot. I have a velcro dog who does not like being handed over to strangers. As far as the little man's reactions to groomers we've tried go, he's definitely the calmest when brought to Unleashed, and I attribute that to the caring, patient staff. Prices are competitive with other city groomers. I've also done the self-service bath service for my dog (perfect for dogs who don't care for the home tub experience), and it's a great service at a great price. Guess my bank was experiencing some technical difficulties with their online portal, making it appear as if I was double-charged for Paxton's last groom, so I called Kim to have her look into it. She was really thorough and earnest about resolving the issue, checking with the credit card company, and then calling me back within the hour to relay that it was a fluke. Kim and the rest of the Unleashed staff always make a point of showing their appreciation for repeat customers (as opposed to acting like they're entitled to your business just because you pay them), which is the mark of a solid business in my book. read more

Unleashed is so great, and cute! I have a huge dog, and everyone charges upwards of $92 to groom him. I like washing him by myself, it's so much fun, and come on, it's $19!!!! Although they only have one self-wash bay, it is always available and I get to see the groomers in action. By the way, they have great music playing, and I can see what a good job they do on the dogs. I got tips on how to dry my pup and brush him. We even danced a bit this Sunday (I'm shameless). I found parking across the street for free, and their price includes all the products. How could I not love it? read more

My regular groomer was over booked this weekend so I went with unleashed after my doggie day care swore by them. I think they did a fine job grooming my dog, albeit a lot pricier than I'd like, however they took for-ever. It's about a 20-block walk from my apt in the LES so I thought I'd hang out for the hour, but at the 1 hour mark, I don't think they had even started with my dog. They told me to come back in another 30 minutes and this time he was ready, and just waiting for me. I didn't get a phone call or anything. I'm going to assume they were just too busy today. They seem well liked in the neighborhood and everyone there was quite pleasant. I have been coming here with my little boy, Mochi, for over a year and a half now and cannot imagine going anywhere else to get his groom on. The staff is always so pleasant and put me at ease leaving my dog with them. Kim, the owner, is always so upbeat and engaging. I especially love it when she brings her two yorkshire terriers to the store because they are so sweet and loveable. Maryann is amazingly warm and skillful. She always takes time to consult with me on what cut I want. I always forget the number system for the cuts and she's so patient each time to remind me. I appreciate them sticking to the estimate of time for each session, usually no more than 2 hours and promptly receiving a call when he is ready. I can always expect Mochi to smell super clean, look snow white and so handsome when I return. The pricing is very reasonable and they do such a wonderful and thorough job that I wholeheartedly recommend them. read more

I needed to get my dog groomed asap after a long winter of hibernation. I had no problem booking an appointment (always a plus during the change of season when groomers are most busy!). Being that my dog is a rescue, going to the groomers is always a really stressful experience (and can be stressful for my dog as well ;). She is terrified of being grabbed after living on the street most of her life. Despite this, when she is not being held down, and threatened with shearing scissors, she has a very sweet and calm nature, so it takes a very patient and caring dog groomer to do the job. She is not aggressive, just scared, and as a dedicated owner, it is VERY important to me that the groomer understand the difference. I was pleased that the groomer that took my dog seemed to have a patient demeanor, albeit she seemed a tad frightened (but she might have just been a little scared of me since I was being an anxious and overbearing "you need to know this about my dog" kind of client, while repeating several times "she won t bite you, but..."). In the end, the cut was okay, not bad, not spectacular, just okay. Although I was pleased with the service, I do not know if I would go back. While the staff was pleasant enough, and very eager to please, it was way over priced in my opinion (nearly $100) for a small/ med sized dog. Also, my impression of the staff was that they were friendly customer oriented people, rather than passionately-dog-crazy kind of people. When I walk into a Groomer s with my dog, I am okay with being addressed last. I want to see that you care enough to try to connect with my dog (who is very nervous to be here), rather than stand back discussing aesthetic preferences with me (during which no friendly attempt was really made to "meet" my dog). Unleashed Spa is a full service grooming spa with a small retail boutique in the East Village. Mochi (https://www.instagram.com/mochiandthecity/) has been going to the spa regularly since her very first haircut in November and loves her groomer Han! There are not a lot of great options for dog grooming in our neighborhood so after reading a TON of reviews, we decided to try Unleashed Spa for Mochi's first grooming experience and have been so pleased that we've since been back multiple times! Full service grooming appointments (starting at $70 for small dogs) have typically taken around 3 hours and include ear cleaning, nail clipping, paw pad cleaning, anal gland expression, a blueberry facial, bath with choice of shampoos, blowout, sanitary clip and haircut. Prior to appointments, you can consult with the groomers to discuss any preferences/ concerns, and our groomer Han is always attentive and pays attention to any specific requests we have. He's truly recommended and Mochi loves him. We like that there are floor to ceiling glass dividers between the retail section and the main grooming room so you can actually watch your dog being groomed if you want - even though we never stay during Mochi's appointments, there's something reassuring about fact that you can see into the grooming area and dogs aren't just taken to some mystery back room like in some spas. We don't have much of a basis for comparison, but Mochi always leaves Unleashed happy, smelling fresh and clean and looking adorable - so what more can we really ask for?! In speaking to the owner Kim, it's clear she feels strongly about building and maintaining customer relationships. We get the sense that most of their customers (like us!) aren't just one-timers - they keep coming back. Kim is also committed to recruiting the best groomers and truly believes in the quality of her staff. We can only speak from our personal experience (though 100+ positive yelp reviews agree), but we love Unleashed Spa! read more

We've tried several groomers in the area for our 10 month old Bedlington Terrier, and after much trial and error, we are so glad to have found Samantha at Unleashed! Even when we bring him in with crazy mats and tangles that I think will be impossible to get out, she manages to get him dematted and soft as a cotton ball without having to shave him - whereas other groomers have insisted on doing so. The breed cut is also quite unusual, but she nailed it. We appreciate that Samantha takes the time to chat with us before and after the groom, gives us great advice, and is always receptive to requests. Our dog clearly loves her and is always happy afterwards, which is amazing because he hates being bathed and brushed at home. I don't know how she does it! We are so glad to have Unleashed in the neighborhood, and highly recommend Samantha! read more

I am so glad I found this dog groomer just walking past it one day. Kim is extremely friendly and goes out of her way to make sure you get what you want. I have 2 Havanese dogs that need very short haircuts because their hair grows out so fast. They worked with me to give them exactly what I wanted. My longhaired chihuahua just got groomed while I used their self-service facility for my lab mix. Kim at the front desk was very helpful, and I got to meet my dog's groomer. With other facilities, I don't know what's going on beyond the reception wall and who is handling my dog. As soon as you enter, the grooming area is visible through the glass doors. My groomer came out to meet us, and gently took care of my high-maintenance dog; she is not an easy dog to handle. Also the result of her wash, cut, and clean were excellent. Finally, after 4 years of looking for the right grooming place, I finally found it!! While my pup was getting groomed, I washed my other pup myself -- loved their self-service facility. I can never do this level of thorough job at home. Overall, I'm very happy with their service and people. read more

I get my fancycat Wilbur groomed here every 6-8 weeks (he's a princess and needs it). Unleashed does a fantastic job. He comes back fresh as a daisy and smelling like a little rose. I'll admit that he's slightly jarred from the experience, since they groom a lot of large/loud dogs, but I can tell they treat him really well. If your cat is jumpy or doesn't react well under stress, Unleashed may not be the best fit for you (maybe some place that has private grooming rooms away from dogs?) but for my man Wilbs, it's perfect. It's insanely expensive to groom an animal in New York City. Unleashed is market price, but they include in that price some services that are sometimes NOT included in other groomers' services (nail clipping, minor de-tangling, the weird butt gland thing). One thing, make an appointment a few days in advance for a cat, just to be safe. Np idea what it's like for dogs or self-service. In sum, I'm all about Unleashed for my cat. Yay Unleashed. read more
