This was one of the best shopping experiences of my life. First of all, yes you have to make an appointment. I saw people complaining about this in their reviews. However that's silly because you literally get a personal and private shopping experience. Don't we all love a personal shopper who knows every detail of the brand? Second everything in this space is a sample so you try on here and then are shipped your pieces later. Rachel was amazing and really made the experience special. Tbh I was just tagging along with some friends, but ended up getting a few pieces. I love that you didn't have to be worried about sizing as they are super inclusive of all bodies and I liked that Rachel really listened to all of us with what our needs and wants were surrounding our bodies. The quality of the clothing is great with excellent attention to detail, and this is the perfect brand to build a capsule wardrobe. read more

I had a magical time at my Universal Standard personal shopping experience and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in trying their clothes in a warm, welcoming environment. The only minor difficulty was that the door buzzer wasn't working, but I called the phone number included in my appointment email and was headed upstairs in moments with my friend who was there for additional support. The rest of the appointment was ever better than I had hoped. The space is lovely and comfortable with refreshments and a very clean bathroom. I met with my very glamorous stylist who immediately put me at ease. I had come in to try on their new US + Henning collaboration and they had every piece I wanted to try on. We also walked through things I liked from the brand so he had a sense of what I wanted (although I later learned he knew my shopping history from US well so he wouldn't pull things I already owned!). After we spoke with the stylist, I was left alone with my friend and the other person who also shared my appointment time, who was lovely, and we looked at some clothes they had in the space while our stylist pulled looks for each of us. Then we were able to try everything on in dressing rooms and talk through them. I was able to order some items there and will order more later once I get home and decide on the colors. I know the US brand extremely well and I still thought this was an excellent experience. I felt very taken care of and appreciated. I also learned some styling tricks and things to consider when buying a blazer to ensure it's sized correctly. I just can't speak highly enough about this experience. Utterly shocked at the high quality of their T-Rex shirt. No wonder it is a $50.00 shirt. When I received the promo code for a free shirt for the cost of delivery, I almost said, "Nah", but honestly, I have been very disgusted at the poor quality of fabric I have been seeing in other brands. I bought a mystery box for $98. What I got was three pieces of the ugliest clothing in the world.Moreover, each piece had a price tag of approximately $35, which meant that I paid more than the regular price for truly unattractive items. When I asked to refund them I was told that they were final sale. I don't remember seeing that anywhere. They agreed to give me a "credit". This means I have to spend more money with them. The clothing material feels soft and comfy, but that's where the positives end. Wow is online customer service absolutely horrendous! I bought three items with a $25 referral credit (NOT the RRR credits). Wanted to return one. Turns out that I should have been psychic! Because if return one, I lose 1/3 of my $25 credit. I explained the issue to customer service and the response was to wash their hands and imply I should have known better ("sorry, credits are divided between items can only be used once!). Not that this is written ANYWHERE on their website. I can only imagine that the math is too hard for them. There's a phone number to call, but it just directs you to email. And the emails don't have any human names attached, so you can't reference any conversations. Also, things are never in stock! So I can't even exchange the item for a better size/color/etc! For a company that charges $50 for a t-shirt, I would expect better service. The photos attached are out of order, but I labeled them. I got a bit testy in my second response. Universal Standard's recycling program is a scam. It's plastered all over the internet right now. And why not? Everyone and their designer auntie is trying to figure out how to stay relevant when any person who thinks about fashion, and also has half a brain knows we are literally buried in clothing pollution. Don't fall for this scammy program. They put an expiration date on when you can use your $25 - $100 discount. And it's only 3 months! If you're on a healthy weight loss program, as I am - there's no way you can use up that discount in 3 months...not unless you want to end up with ANOTHER pile of clothes to discard onto a landfill somewhere. And the difference this time around will be that it's a seriously expensive landfill pile. Don't do it - demand better. read more

As a plus size woman I'm always on the lookout for clothing that is timeless, on trend, and functional. I had first heard about universal standard either in an online article or a magazine article that was reviewing upcoming clothing boutiques that catered A wide variety of sizes, body types. I had made my first purchase online, during their Black Friday/cyber Monday sale. I was not sure about ordering things online, but I was pleasantly surprised. Online you are able to review the items on a actual model that resembles your size and build. Finally I was on a trip to New York, my first stop literally was universal standard in Soho. I booked an appointment a few days in advance, and mentioned a variety of items I was interested in trying on. I was interested in the main starter kit. And gave them a description of my lifestyle, work style, and what I feel comfortable in. When I arrived, Taylor was my personal stylist. She had pulled all of the items I was interested in. She also pulled a few surprise items. They were very accommodating, as I was a few moments late for my appointment. I apologize profusely and then went into full "pretty woman mode". Clothing was pulled for me, I tried it on, and I was able to live out one of my fantasies. I went home with one of the kids, and amazing pair of sand pants, and a wonderful, mono highbred spring dress. Each piece flow seamlessly into my wardrobe, as well as standalone. I was amazingly happy with my experience. No matter your size please come here if you are in New York. If not go online and take a chance. They also have an amazing loyalty program. If you recommend and send invites to people for their T-shirt, you are rewarded with money to spend on clothing. Since I've been there I've ordered pairs of jeans. Also their return policy is amazing. On some items within the year, if you move up a size or down they will replace it for free. I did this with a pair of jeans. I was in the process of changing my diet, and noticed that a pair of jeans was really loose. They take the old pair of jeans and donate them. Then they send you a new pair of jeans. You are able to do this for up to a year. Love this store. Love the people that work there. This is absolutely the best investment I've made in a wardrobe. read more

I had the best shopping experience of my life visiting the Universal Standard showroom. I promise am not exaggerating. I made an appointment months in advance to visit during my 'partnermoon', as I live in the UK, and I was BEYOND floored by the experience. Aimee was incredibly helpful, honest, and helped me get through 2+ hours of fitting basically everything there (because seriously, ALL their pieces are beautiful, incredibly high quality and so well cut) and making a selection of pieces within my budget. Very important things to note: everything in the store fit me. Everything. No exceptions. At several points I sized down. (Size 12 jeans - WHICH FIT ME, I couldn't with this.) I said no to pieces not because they didn't fit or I struggled to get into them (which again: this didn't happen even once) but because I didn't love them as much as the other pieces. Saying no to something because there were other things I loved more so incredibly empowering, I can't even begin to explain how that made me feel. I was jumping around with joy at numerous points. A shopping experience without any type of bodyshaming, and just celebrating how nice things look on me: words cannot express how unique this experience is to me. Even shopping online usually involves plenty of disappointment; none of this happened when shopping at US with Aimee. To top it all off, I'd had some pieces shipped to the UK before but they didn't quite fit perfectly which I brought to the appointment. I had zero expectation for anything to happen with these, and basically brought them in to be donated to their program. Aimee refunded me for them in full which was truly far beyond my expectations, and she also managed to get a sweater dress added to my order when I regretted not adding it after I left the store. I might need to find another source for restraining myself when (soon I hope!!!) I can get more pieces of their beautiful collection delivered to me in the UK, and you had better believe the first thing I will do after booking my next trip to NYC will be to book another showroom appointment with Aimee. Several months ago I decided to upgrade my fashion game. As a fluffy sized woman I find it difficult to find beautifully designed, upscale clothes. It's also especially frustrating to go to the store and try things on. Usually you see something you like, and they don't have the right size. Or your in the fitting room and need a different size. I did an online order on 12/4 and have not heard a word from them since. I tried to contact customer service through the chat, call, and text options all of which refer you to their email service. I emailed twice. I never received a response to the first email. In the second email I requested a refund if no shipping information was provided. I was told per terms and conditions "2-4 weeks for delivery". Well its 3 weeks in and still no shipping information. Again, no response from customer service. SHADY! Run away from this company. I just received my first order from US. I was hesitant because the items are pricier than what I usually buy and I was leery that plus size clothing would have that expensive cut be obvious. I got a coat, a pair of jeans, a denim shirt dress and 4 tops. I LOVED EVERY PIECE and would definitely order from them again. The "sweat shirts" fall perfectly and the colors are nice. The quality of the items I've received, three Rhine Color Block Cuff Tops, is of better fabric than JJIll or Soft Surroundings. If you have a large bust, you will have to order up a size. What is very difficult is returns. Universal Standard has chosen to use either Happy Returns or Fedex. You have to go to a special site, then print out your return label. The trend in mail order now seems to be NOT including a RETURN MAILING LABEL. What does someone do who doesn't have their own printer? Well, yes, you could go to the Happy Returns store, but for me, that would mean a 45 minute drive. VERY INCONVENIENT RETURNS!!! read more

This place is, in a word, amazing. Yeah, I know that word is getting overused, but if the shoe fits.... I was a little nervous about going to the showroom, because I don't like to be fussed over at clothing places, but the whole process was great. Aimee is really wonderful; so friendly and helpful, and great at helping to pick out just the right stuff. Not all the pieces suited me, of course, but the ones that did were so fabulous I couldn't get over it. The fabrics are lovely and the clothing is really cut beautifully for the not-skinny among us. Aimee welcomed us (after confirming our appointments via email) - and went through the whole collection. We had booked back to back time slots - so my friend and I had 2 hours to try things on. I am a Universal Standard superfan, and about half of my wardrobe comes from their online shop. I was beyond excited to visit the NYC store while on vacation, because I wanted to try on the full collection and splurge on a few things. Although the space and staff are lovely, the fact is that there is hardly any stock there! None of the newer items were there and there were entire categories missing in all sizes and colors, including all the varieties of Geneva dress, and in fact most of the other dresses weren't there, either. I was disappointed-I did buy one Carrea dress and I love it, so it wasn't a waste of time altogether. read more

We had a personal shopper named Vanencia, who took my mom and i's sizes down and told us we would be a small. In no store am i a medium or small. My visit to the showroom was a wonderful experience. The customer service was spectacular. I LOVE my pieces and will be buying more in the future. The jeans are great. I never really owned jeans because it was so difficult to shop for them. Less than 2 months after ordering a pair there are large holes forming after very minimal wear (it's quarantine, who's wearing anything but joggers right now?) I've been a fan/stalker of US for a few years now, I even have some things with the original serif-ed logo thank you very much... so thrilled was I to find they have a legit real brick and morter in SoHo and I happened to be in NYC for work and just happened to get in a little early for a work trip and then happened to make it to the store to get in some proper shopping last month. Look here, I grew up in NY and I guess you could say Soho was an early hang out for all of us in HS, when back home in college and all that but it's been a while since anything in the area had any attire that fit me anymore (because we're not in HS anymore and guess what Canal Jean and Andy's Chee-Pees and UNIQUE have been long gone as have their mix of weird sized and mostly bargain used attire, you hear me?) much less could afford. Enter Universal Standard. I was coming to switch out a pair of jeans and ended up with a mess of other stuff because it's a) really well made, b) has a variety of sizes to work for nearly everyone especially now that they offer from 00-40 in some styles and c) won't completely break the bank. No, it's not "cheap", but it's also not Old Navy/H&M/disposable fashion quality. I would way rather pay $90 for a pair of jeans that are great quality and look and feel good than 3 pairs of $30 jeans that will fall apart in 3 months. Just walking in to the store makes you feel special, and that is worth almost any price as a non-standard size these days. Love them so! read more

These are by far the best fitting jeans I have found. Better than NYDJ, and better than Eileen Fisher. They are reasonably priced as well. I hope to see more styles come out. I also love the other items I have tried. T-shirts and tops and especially the zipper sweatshirt top. I love that finally what I like and order actually fits!! So awesome. Universal Standard is a retailer that focuses on high-quality clothing for Plus Size women. I have been lusting after Universal Standard for months but was hesitant on taking the plunge because of the price point and my current fluctuations in size. I even planned to cancel the appointment I made because I wasn't sure if I was going to benefit from a visit when I could just drive 20 minutes to Roosevelt Field and go to Macy's. However, I am glad I went because....yowza. This brand is life changing. The entire process was seamless from start to finish. I made an appointment on-line for a Saturday afternoon (no worries - they send you e-mail reminders so you won't forget). The showroom is in a non-descript office building near Penn Station, so it is easy to get to on foot (or by Uber if you're nasty). I was met by the elevator by Aimee, who immediately calmed my nerves and made me feel very welcome. The hour they provide is yours - you can either get a tour of their full line or you can roam through the showroom checking out the pieces. I chose the tour. Aimee was friendly and patient in showing me all of the pieces (and I do mean all) that were on the website, plus some pieces that have not been released to the public yet. She also explained the sizing to me and showed me which pieces in which sizes would suit my body type - since their sizing isn't traditional, this helped a lot. I also loved the fact that we were the only people in the showroom, this gave me the freedom to try on anything I wanted while having her full attention. The clothes are AMAZEBALLS. I can be a pain in the ass when it comes to shopping; one, because I am really picky about what I buy, and two because my body shape isn't the easiest to shop for and a lot of things don't look good on me. After trying on 90% of their current lineup (plus some items on preview), there was only one thing in the showroom that I didn't like. Everything else was amazing. The quality is outstanding and the colors/fit is second to none. I wound up purchasing 3 items (going over my budget, of course), then going home and buying another (because they didn't have it in the store). The only con is the price point - you can wind up racking up a pretty decent bill coming out of there. The nice thing is that there is no pressure to buy anything - if you don't make a purchase, Aimee will put it on a wish list for you (that you can access on their website) and you can keep it moving. However, the quality of the clothing is so good I can't see how one will end up leaving empty handed. Regardless of how much I tried, I couldn't. If you have the time, give Universal Standard a shot. An absolute disgrace for a company! Customer service is horrible and it took me to call and simultaneously email them at least four times per minute in order to get a call back! I choose the fourteen day option because this is my first time ordering, therefore I wanted to make sure my purchase would fit! They then proceeded to authorize my card about TWELVE times during the trial period and once I thought I handled it, today (feb 18th) I see two authorizations, after speaking with STEPHANIE the afternoon prior to resolve the issue! This company is full of it and I will be unauthorizing BOTH charges and cancelling my card because I fear this company will continue to authorize my card! I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone! I had three of my friends place an order but they all cancelled once they saw my experience! If you order from Universal Standard mention my name as a referral because if you do, you will get $25. You schedule an appointment online. You go to a little office building in midtown and someone needs to come get you in the lobby. Aimee met me in the lobby and I knew it was going to be a good experience when I saw her totally cute ensemble. She was very well styled, and I was impressed just looking at her. Hands down this was the absolute best shopping experience that I have ever had. I have been stalking Universal Standard online for over a year. I was very interested in buying stuff from them but I was wary of buying anything without actually having tried on at least one thing to get a good idea of what size would fit me. Before my appointment I had been advised that my size would be S based on the sizes of clothes in other brands that I wear but in the end I am a size M in some things and an S in others because of my shape, so being able to try things on was a great way to avoid buying things and having to exchange them through the mail. (If you end up doing that, I think it is fine, but this is a way to ensure success right off the bat.) I want to be clear about one thing- I am hopeless at styling myself. I choose the worst things on my own. I NEED guidance in order to choose flattering items, and I am not good at deciding what size will be flattering. Left to my own devices, I will choose baggy and shapeless things that will hide my shape rather than keep trying things in order to get the fit right. In essence I hate shopping and I need special help. I am going to mess it up if I shop on my own- I have a closet full of unflattering nonsense to back myself up on this. I am also a pathological bargain shopper who is a slave to a good deal rather than holding out for quality pieces that help me look good. On to my experience at the showroom. First of all, I had tried to make other appointments and had a hard time because of my schedule- so I called when I had an opportunity and Aimee made some room for me to come in. This was incredibly generous of her since she already had someone else booked at the same time. The other person who shared the appointment was so kind to me and her comments affirmed what great choices Aimee had helped me pick out. She was also more fashionable than I am. Being a larger woman is not easy and there is a solidarity among us. I tried on basically everything that they had- except button down shirts- and now I need to go back. I wanted everything I tried on. It all looks great, shows off the good parts and draws attention away from the bad. I felt spectacular in these clothes, like my true inner self was finally wearing what it wants to wear. These are the clothes that make me look like me in the best way imaginable. A little edgy and rebellious but also practical. I normally live in jeans and hoodies. These were clothes that made those kind of choices relevant and appropriate rather than immature and tragic. You can wear jeans- if they fit well and look put together. If your clothes are ill-fitting and nothing looks like it matches, you will look like a slob. I absolutely loved everything I tried on and I plan on buying everything in due time. The hardest part was figuring out how to be responsible and buy things that are seasonally appropriate. I love nice things. I have a lot of shapeless but beautiful Eileen Fisher pieces but Universal Standard is something truly special. It's not frumpty-dumpty! The fabrics are natural and feel great. They feel like good, fashionable and cool choices rather than the least gross option of a small number terrible options. I hate going to Lane Bryant. I hate synthetic fabrics. I hate the small pool of options and the exorbitant prices for cheaply made and ill-fitting clothes. I hate the feeling of shame I get when I shop at a store like that. I feel like I am being punished for having a larger body when I walk through the doors of big chain plus size stores. Universal Standard is a revelation. A brand that feels like something you are excited about shopping from rather than being rejected from the land of acceptable body sizes and relegated to a prison of awful clothes that don't fit who you are. The clothes are well priced. Better to buy the things you want that look good than get some junk in the clearance section of a chain store and take it home to rot in your closet. The prices are reasonable considering the level of quality and design. Aimee made such good choices and helped me so much. I am so excited to get the stuff I ordered! Bad thing- you can't buy anything from the show room, it must be ordered online and you can get it later. Good thing, no schlepping packages around the city after you leave. The location is convenient to both Penn Station and Port Authority and it was totally worth the trip. I will be making an appointment every season. read more

The sizing is way off. I normally take a 3x in a tshirt, but their sizing is different & their sizing chart told me to get an XL which I did. Was so disappointed to find it fit like an XL in other brands, which obviously was too small for me- it was also too short. The fabric is beautiful. Had a great experience here. It was really good to actually try on the clothes. Previously I had made purchases online and had to return a couple of the items due to the sizing. So if you're honking about making a purchase online stop by the store if you can to see which sizes really for you. read more
