Although I live in South Kingstown, I had never been to Universal Nails. Decided to go in this morning for a pedicure. When I went in, there was only one other customer being service by an employee (mail) parentheses. As soon as his customer left, he and two other women employees (female) proceeded to have "a good time" for the next 20 minutes. I don't know about you, but when I go in for a pedicure or manicure, I expect a quiet atmosphere where I can just relax and get the service done. They were so loud and obnoxious, you couldn't even hear the TV that was on in the background. One of the female employees was laughing so loud I couldn't hear myself think! I was considering a manicure, but after that, could not deal with it for another half hour/40 minutes. They acted like they had the whole place to themselves. Never again. read more

Straight forward nail salon. They're always accommodating and they don't destroy my delicate nails.

My daughter and I were very disappointed with our manicures and pedicures, They said they couldn't do gel on top of tips so we had to use dip powder, our nails were so thick and glue was everywhere, It costed us $200. The salon its self was outdated and no where close to clean. If you are looking to get ur nails done, find a new place, don't go here. read more

These places are a dime a dozen. I want someone who is pleasant, professional and efficient. These manicurist act like they are doing you a favor. This is $25 for under an hour plus tip. I had a gentleman apply my gel. What a mess. He was watching the door and everything. Not paying attention. Crossing this one off my list! There are probably 5 nail salons in a 2 mile radius of this place. I'm already at another that is consistent and the manicures last. read more

I wish I could leave zero the lady rushed so much that I think she finsihed my nails in twenty minutes tops. I waited twenty minutes which is fine. I got a dip pedicure and ther look absolutely atrocious she didn't cut my cuticles or shape my nail. I told her they were too chunky two separate times and she barely fixed them. I have always been happy when I've gone to Universal nails and spa. Kim is a great person and she is always able to fit me in when I call to ask to have my nails and feet done , usually I have the dip done on my hands and they last several weeks. please try them. I have never in my life asked for a refund / told someone I wasn't going to pay for their service... This was the worst customer service I have ever had in my LIFE. I went here for a dip manicure and they did not deserve my money at all I shouldn't have paid. I asked the woman to shape my nails as coffin and the way she shaped them was with a nail clipper and ripping off the rest of the nail by her hands like how you would rip a hang nail off. I have two nail infections now and I got them done less than a week ago. This is what they look like. Totally unprofessional and from the way I saw them do my nails it did not seem like they knew what they were doing. I've been consistently getting my nails done for years now and this was by far the worst place I have gone. I go to school here so I am trying to find other nail places. read more

Too bad there wasn't an option for no stars. My mom booked a group of four two weeks in advance for a fun girls' day before my sister's wedding. We showed up, and they only had three seats available and were not ready to take us for half an hour. When they did seat us, they still didn't have a fourth seat, so my lovely sister, who is African American, was forced to wait. She waited. And waited. And waited. They skipped her in line three times and didn't even offer to start her until the rest of us were all done and waiting to go to lunch. No apology, no remorse, no discount. Nothing. Needless to say, we had to find another salon. It ruined the whole morning. They also cut my cuticles, and the job they did was atrocious. I would never go back to this place was extremely dirty and polishes are old paid 60 for full set nail polish peeled two days later and had to go to another salon in Cranston to have the acrylic redone. They glued on top of my cuticle. read more

I'm very surprised that there aren't much reviews of this place here. this place is always crowded and sometimes you even have to wait. I'm guessing that's because there aren't much nail salons near wakefield. they have ups and downs.. sometimes if you are lucky, you'll get a really nice nails done. if you're unlucky... you know the alternative.. they are generally better with shellacs than regular manicure. Just be sure to throughly explain every detail of what sort of design you want. They carry huge choices of shellac colors compared to other nail salons I've been to in narragansett/kingston/warwick area. my favorite is red with gold glitters - pic's here somewhere. they have student discount so don't forget to ask them. I'm not sure if it was tuesday but during one of the week days they have mani and pedi special where you can get discount so call them and ask. read more

Very professional. They do an amazing job in an respectful and decent amount of time, compared to other salons I've previously been a customer at. It usually takes a little over an hour and 15 minutes at other nail salons but here it took maybe 45 minutes. Very satisfied with that time. I bartend, and a lot of the other salons I've gotten my nails done at only lasted maybe 5 or 6 days without breaking but with the dip nail powder I get done at universal nails & spa it lasted almost 2 and a half weeks. So, I admit it... I let my eyebrows go. I ignored my tweezers for too long, and started looking a little too hairy as of late. However, I don't think that my lazy upkeep deserves the lopsided situation that I now find my self in. The people at 108 were nice enough, friendly... and they squeezed me right in. I've never had my eyebrows waxed while having my head rest in the shampooing sink (ouch), and don't think I ever will again. The waxer was nice, but did not discuss how I wanted my eyebrows shaped at all. Maybe it was the fact that she had to come at my eyebrows from the side, and her perspective was off, but my left eyebrow is much fuller than my right. AND, my right eyebrow has a nice little chunk taken out of it. At first I thought that the leftover wax was making my eyebrow hairs go in funny directions, but no, it was the fact that too much got waxed on one side. And only one side! Also, my arch was totally ignored, and now i have a dumpy little lumps for eyebrows. Oh well. I also want to clarify: I'm not upset about my eyebrows, because I know that they will grow back (clearly); but am not looking forward to tweezing tonight when I get home. read more

Do not go here! The woman was incredibly rude to me after I explained that I normally get a "full tip" with gel polish which she had clearly never heard of. She proceeded to be completely rude and rather than telling me they do not offer that service, she told me, the customer, I had no idea what I was talking about. I showed her my nail that was hanging on by a thread, in which you could clearly see it was a tip that began at my cuticle and my real nail underneath. I understand if a salon will not provide this service, but it's embarrassing to think an employee whose salary is tip based would speak to a customer this way. read more

I recommend calling to book an appointment- they are usually quite busy and you do NOT want to go anywhere else! I had a pedicure & manicure at the spa. The technician was rude. She was looking at one of my short toe nails and had this big grin on her face and started talking back & forth with other technicians in their home language and they were all laughing. Finally, I said 'I feel like you are laughing at me'. The conversation throughout the spa instantly ended. After the pedicure, I had to move to another chair for the manicure. At my regular spa, when I move from a pedicure to a manicure I get a new technician. So when I looked up and saw the same technician, I said 'Oh, I thought someone else would be doing the manicure'. At this she said, 'You think we all look a like?' I was shocked. I knew who she was. I did not mistake her for another employee at the spa. So confusing. No need for me to revisit this establishment. I walked in one day and found someone who did a great job (even though she took over an hour to do my nails). I get acrylics topped with gel or shellac. One time she wasn't available so I had another technician. She was even better. I called a few weeks ago, and both Kelly and Clara are gone. I asked where they went, but needless to say they "didn't know." I won't take another chance. When I've gone with other people, they've complained about their technician either being rude or not doing a good job. The pedicures are quick. There are no leg rubs but I think they're only $20. The place is often very busy but they do move customers along. I wish I could find out where Kelly and Clara went. I'd follow them to their new place!! read more

They don' t sanitize pedicure tubs between clients. Just a spritz of spray and toss you in. They shuffle clients in line cattle and assure you only a 5 minute wait and you are at their mercy soaking 15 minutes before anyone comes to see you. They use files and scrubs worn and overly used with others debris. Not sanitizing utensils between clients. Salon is filthy and raised prices without changing price board. read more

Eh, went here on A Monday for their mani/pedi deal. They were busy so I waited in the pedicure chair for a good 45 minutes before they started. The pedicure was fine. The manicure wasn't great though. Corners were missed and the finished product looked like something I had done sitting in front of my TV. If I could give less than 1 star I would. This place is terrible. They just don't care. I think the health dept should revoke their license. It is dirty and the tools they use are not sanitized. I went for a mani pedi and although there weren't many customers, there were not very many technicians. There were 4 empty chairs. I was told to sit in a chair where I waited for more than 5 minutes before I had to ask if someone was going to put water in the tub. I then tried to use the massage control, but it didn't turn on. (There was still no one working on me. ) When I asked for help with the control, they told me it didn't work and said I could move to another chair. By this time my feet were wet so I had to ask for a towel to dry my feet before I could put my shoes on and move to another chair. They grabbed a towel from another client and tossed it to me. I went to the other chair and sat there for awhile. I had already been there for almost a half hour. No one came to put water in the tub, so I got out of the tub and turned the water on myself. Finally, a male technician came to work on me. He did the bare minimum and never even spoke to me- just tapped my feet and gestured. He also did my hands, and again the bare minimum. He was only going to put on one coat until I asked for the second one. When he finished, he just left me sitting in the manicure chair and went onto another client. Usually, they pick up your purse, keys, etc and move you to a drying area, but he ignored me. I looked to see if there was no room at the drying station, but it was empty. I sat there for a few minutes and then got up and asked one of the other technicians to remove the rubber pads between my toes and walked out. I am sorry I even gave this guy a tip! I have been to many other salons, both in RI, PA, and Florida. Without a doubt, this was the worst treatment I have ever experienced. I will be looking for another place. read more

The Prices from this place are unbelievable misleading, when you walk in the prices of everything are posted on the wall, I figured since I'm getting a fill and a french tip the price would be no more than 30. It said for a fill it was 20 and a french tip 5 and up. instead I payed 40. It was my first time at this Nail place, I walked in they were all busy with clients and there were three people soaking in the pedicure chair, however nobody acknowledged me, I was looking for a sign in sheet nothing was at the desk so I just sat in the waiting room I sat there for about maybe 10 minutes, Nobody still acknowledged me. yes they were busy but they could Of acknowledge me at least to see what services I needed and to let me know how long the wait was, needless to say I was frustrated and walked out. read more

I went for my nails and lip wax. Nails came out fine but got severe burns and bled on my lip from the hot wax. Everywhere else i've ever gone to for waxing, removes the hot wax from the pot and lets it sit for a few seconds to let it cool down before putting it on my skin. Here the hot wax was put directly on my skin, and even after expressing concern that it was painful, this continued! Now I have burns all above my lip that are very painful to touch and may need medical attention. The wax also ripped off a bit of skin and caused me to bleed read more

This most recent time was by far the worst. I felt rushed with getting my nails done and they didn't last. I was getting acrylics done for my prom and three days later two had already fallen off. I love going to Universal Nails because they do such a good job on your nails and toes. The manicures/ pedicures last much longer than they usually do when I have gone to other places around the state. The technicians are very professional and personable. Went to the nail salon. I had to wait and was bounced around from person to person. No one talked to me and was constantly looking at the door. I was talked into getting acrylics with gel polish because they would last a month if need be. These nails were lose after a week and now 2 weeks out and I was gonna get my nails done I lose 4 nails. You'd think maybe I do hard labor but no I'm a cashier. My nails have never been this bad after 2 weeks and I haven't change my routine. Never going back there and that's sad because that's a local.
