I appreciated that he took time to explain the boat operation and details during delivery. It was well worth the trip to Rochester!

Al's did a good job rigging the outboard on my new Lund boat…read more Unfortunately they failed to latch the stern compartment door shut and the door flung open on the interstate and chipped the cover of the outboard while I was driving my brand new boat home. When I got the boat home I noticed that the outboard battery leads were only hand tightened. Little did I know that these were a prelude of things to come. The electronic rigging was awful. Al's had little knowledge on rigging boat electronics and I had multiple issues that included: 1.) Multiple connectors that came loose from wiring because they were too small, not adequately crimped, and only a couple were heat shrunk. Example: The positive battery cable to the bow of the boat came loose my second time out because Al's connected it to a small wire gauge spade connector instead of a properly sized battery cable ring connector. The connector they installed was many sizes too small for the battery cable and not heat shrunk to the cable so of course it came loose. 2.) A required on/off switch was not installed and it killed the outboard battery. 3.) Two 15" fish finders were hooked up to the outboard battery instead of a dedicated deep cell battery as specified by the manufacturer. 4.) Al's mounted the trolling motor heading sensor touching a bundle of cables that included the throttle cable, directly in a magnetic field - the worst possible spot on the boat (I was unable to calibrate the trolling motor until I troubleshoot the incorrect rigging which required moving and re-wiring the heading sensor). 5.) The trolling motor was loose. Turns out one of the 4 bolts used to mount it to the bow of the boat was too short and there was no nut on the other end. The other 3 bolts were loosely tightened, one of which I was able to turn by hand. Had I not noticed this early on, chances are the trolling motor would have eventually ended up on the bottom of a lake or the middle of an interstate. 6.) I had Al's mount an SI transducer to the bottom of the trolling motor. It came loose my third time out and was hanging by it's cable when I returned to the dock. 7.) I asked Ryan to only use block fuses, no in-line fuses. I had the following written into the contract that he signed: "Block fuse holders with minimum of 4 open slots for future adds". This could not have been clearer. Yet, Al's only installed a block fuse holder at the helm, not the bow - Instead they installed a tinny little electronic spade connector power strip (I remember these from my old stereo receivers from the early 1970's). There were multiple in line fuses instead of block fuses in the bow. It's since been replaced with a proper marine fuse block with ring connectors. Between the time I spent fixing multiple rigging issues (one of which left me stranded on the water), to the dollars I spent having a knowledgeable mechanic fix the rigging issues that I was unable to fix, to the weekends that were ruined because of dead batteries, loose connections and incorrect rigging, I wish to God that I had not purchased the boat from Al's Specialty Marine. Electronic rigging was most certainly not a "Specialty" at Al's Specialty Marine. The workmanship was disgraceful. This was a major disappointment. The only positive was that I learned a lot about rigging a boat while I troubleshoot and fixed a continuous array of problems. Needless to say, I made huge mistake buying the boat from Al's Specialty Marine and will never do business with them again. Neither will any of my fellow fishing club members, some of whom were on the boat when it died on the water. Word gets around.

My wife and I bought a brand new 2018 South Bay 523 RS pontoon boat from River Valley Marine…read more(Rochester) in February 2020. We took delivery on April 8th, 2020. The boat was initially missing a table, which was sent to us. After we put the pontoon in the water, we went to cover it with the cover that it came with and noticed that there were many snaps ( 10 ) missing and the cover was torn. We contacted the dealer and got the run around from many people that work there. I finally talked with the director of operations, Mike Wooden. He listened to my story and said to send pictures via text and he would see what he could do. It's been many weeks and no word from him. The cover should be under warranty. They wanted me to send in the cover and they would repair it. If you buy a new boat, you should get a new cover and shouldn't have to repair it. The manufacturer warranty on the cover is 5 years from date of purchase. I contacted the manufacturer of the boat (South Bay ) and talked with a Theresa, who said they have already warrantied the cover twice for River Valley Marine. Once in February 2018 and once in March of 2018. Theresa from South Bay told me that the dealer (River Valley ) would have to warranty the cover. Still waiting patiently for my brand new cover.Update (7/26/20) I have since then received a brand new boat cover from River Valley Power & Sport. Please save your time and money, take your business anywhere else.. and if you do make the unfortunate decision of making a purchase from this place don't expect anyone to return your calls and don't buy a damn thing from Rob at their red wing location, that man is the laziest, lying piece of work I've ever crossed paths with. 10/10 do not recommend.

Ill make this short-I helped my brother in law source an Atv for winter plowing: Im a former…read morecertified mechanic and knew the atv needed some small work but was overall very solid. This shop proceeded to take 2 months to fix a carburetor issue they opted to rebuild (and over charge for something much cheaper to just buy new) and during that time managed to break multiple parts on the atv, communicate terribly and take advantage of the fact that he already had brought the atv to them and milked that fact every chance they had. They kept finding "major issues" with the atv that I do not believe actually existed. The fact they went through multiple mechanics during the 2 months it was there speaks volumes of how poorly they run their business. worst part is, they sent it home with him (finally) with broken welded parts that they were responsible (and admitted to) breaking. In my years of mechanics I have never witnessed such a poorly run dishonest establishment.

They sent me confusing pictures of why they needed to be replaced so I agreed. They quoted me $1118 to do the job and charged me $1251 because they forgot to include the belt on the first quote even though it was there to get the belt replaced. I picked up the machine from the con artists and there is a dime size scuff wore through the front cover on the top side near wear the breather tube connects. Instead of suggesting I use JB weld to repair it they put over $400 of parts on the machine. They claimed I also needed a clutch from scratches clauses by the belt slipping, I declined because I felt they were ripping me off. This is a warning to stay away! Beware of the service department!

What a disappointing dealership! They have a boat posted on Facebook Marketplace, by multiple…read moresalesmen. I messaged the first one, Josh Smith with some questions. He answered one of the multiple questions, and told me the boat was in another storage unit and he was happy to set up an appointment to see it. I assumed selling something, he could answer some basic questions, so I don't have to travel an hour and a half to find this information out. Never heard back from him, even though I reached out again to see if he was able to find out what kind of fish finder was on it. Noticed there were 2 other salesmen with the same post, whom I also messaged. (Justin H and Kyle P). Neither one responded to the questions asked. If these guys cannot respond to a couple of basic questions on a boat they have posted and are selling, then I will for sure stay well clear of this place....
