This place has a great burger with reasonable prices on their menu options. It is rare that a burger joint will serve them up pink, just the way I like it. I came here multiple times with friends and no one left disappointed. We ordered 20 wings which were also great we tried all three flavors. The cocktails were on point as well, I had an amazing Old Fashioned. Service was top notch, didn't have to ask for anything. Staff here are mindful and remember what you ask for. Fun environment as they have reclaimed an old gas station with plenty of outdoor seating and a fire pit to boot. Next time I am in Clayton, GA I will stop in for food and drinks again. read more

Universal Joint has great burgers and beer. Our family of 4 enjoyed our meal. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because my husband ordered the cucumber salad as a side with his meal and got a bowl of cucumbers that had been soaked in apple cider vinegar. That's not exactly what he was expecting. And, our service wasn't great. Our beers came in plastic solo cups while those sitting near us had glasses. Our server didn't come check on us either. We had a party of 5. Our wait was minimal but this is a hopping place with a steady stream of people. They do text ahead seating but we found that out after our arrival. Robbie was our waiter and was attentive but not overbearing, he was pleasant to deal with and made great recommendations when we couldn't decide. The brisket nachos both my mom and I had were awesome. My mom got the universal margarita w added jalapeños and said it was delicious. We've stopped in twice now on the way to OTTO, NC. Very hipster, chill vibe restaurant. First time was on a Friday (it was busy and we had a wait) and last night on a Thursday. We did not have to wait, thankfully because we were hungry! Both nights had music- Friday being live I believe. Food is good and tasty, my man had the Brisket Dip and loved it, fries were ok. Bartender was good. The atmosphere was good. The food was either an old order that no one picked up, or the kitchen didn't care how they send food out. I was disappointed in the chicken tacos...and the fries were warmed up and hard, stale. I give out great reviews when deserved. This place is so cute and has great food. The pimento cheese appetizer is awesome and comes with crunchy homemade pickles. Fish tacos were light and fresh for a hot summer day. We visited on a somewhat chilly night, and were surprised to find that we had to wait outside. You wait in a line to place your order and pay; then, when a table comes available, you get to go in. I don't know, this just seemed weird to me. We put in our order and waited outside to be called in. Some people placed their order and chose to sit outside. So, we could have done this, but we felt it was too chilly to be comfortable outside. We were called inside later, and seated at a nice, large table. Our server was quick and efficient, and got our food ordered and out to us in a timely fashion. The inside definitely has a town bar feel, and they have a large U-shaped bar where lots of people seemed to prefer to sit. It was definitely social. For us, I think U-Joint will be a great outside dining place in the summer. Try it out! read more

Universal Joint is in Clayton, Georgia. The buildings around it seem kind of sophisticated and interesting. My dad and I went after visiting Tallulah Gorge State Park and more landmarks around the area. We are originally from Tampa, Florida and the December cold was frisky. It was an excellent experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant was packed. All the seats were full because college football was playing. Apparently, it is a good place if somebody wants to watch a game of football. I remember the inside of the restaurant was cozy. The walls are made from bricks. There were some cool neon signs on the wall that can generally be described as colorful. Altogether the restaurant gives off 80's or retro vibes, in my opinion. I remember ordering the PMB sandwich. The way that I described the PMB is that the bread was well toasted. I liked the taste of the bacon in the sandwich. The pimiento cheese was more on the salty side, however. If someone were to want to circumvent some of the saltiness maybe order less pimiento cheese. Also, adding more lettuce on to the sandwich could balance the saltiness, in my opinion. The sandwich could also be eaten vegetarian if ordered without the bacon. I especially liked how the fries were cooked. The exterior was crispy and soft on the inside. The fries also had a spicy or tangy taste to them. The last thing that we ordered were the honey wings. The honey wings were a blend of sweet with doughy chicken. It was a lucid vacation with plenty of fun memories. Universal Joint only added to the memories. read more

We could not resist the lively vibe this place was putting out while we spend a casual morning in downtown Clayton. Lots of outdoor seating and energetic music pumping. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. We ordered some local craft draft beers and lunch. The reason for the 4 stars is because we all ordered our meals with NO tomatoes. We even made a joke about how our family hates tomatoes and ALL of our meals came with tomatoes on it. We definitely did not want to wait for a remake so we just picked them all off. It's a burger restaurant. Had a hangout for people. They sale burgers and beer. Certain times of the week it gets crowded. Food is hot and miss. I know people that love going there. The ambiance of Universal Joint reflects its grease stained past, old gas pumps are part of the decor and a tool box has been repurposed as a host's station. We called ahead for our party of eight and had a table waiting for us outside. Service was friendly and they had a man with a serious white beard falling to his waist playing guitar and serenading the crowd on a perfectly pleasant Friday early evening. I started with the U Joint Mary (their take on a bloody mary with the addition of a splash of Guinness). Nothing special, but for my entree I had their Steinbeck's Burger, a burger with pimiento cheese, jalapeno peppers, bacon, lettuce, and onion (I had them omit the tomato, but add their jalapeno aioli), served with tater tots, truly a great meal. We have been to Universal Joint two times so far. The first time was pretty late after a day of working in the yard. We were famished. We started with chips with salsa and queso. All were tasty. For dinner we had fish tacos and brisket dip. My fish tacos were pretty sad, tbh. Not much fish and not very exciting. My husbands brisket dip was great though!!! Second time around, started with the chips again. Tasty, again. I wasn't going to go wrong this time. I ordered the brisket dip. The brisket has great flavor. Cooked well and pulling apart easily. The dip has great flavor. I probably should ask for extra horseradish next time. I really enjoy it, but I would love a little more. Both times, our fries were very disappointing. Cold, soggy. The first time, I actually didn't have any because I filled up on chips. Second time, I tried them after my husband said how awful they were and that it was same as last time. This is the happening place downtown with great community and wonderful food. We were excited to find a nice spread out outdoor pet-friendly eating place in downtown Clayton. The food ranges from Tex mex, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and more. We waited awhile to be seated, but it was well worth it and we weren't in a rush. We loved the appetizers and they were out very quickly. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly including bringing a bowl of water for our dog. The quesadillas were very tasty, the fries were amazing, and we loved the spicy egg rolls. This is a place we will definitely come back to when in the area. The food and atmosphere were perfect for a summer evening. They also offer a decent selection from the bar. Make sure to visit even if it looks crowded it is definitely worth the food! read more

Really neat spot! There is plenty of outdoor seating and the patio is pup-friendly. Our waitress had dog treats ready to go in her apron pocket which my little lads took delight in. The place was cram-packed and we still were sat well before the estimated wait time. Our waitress was on the ball. Our food came out very shortly after we ordered.
