***UPDATED REVIEW*** The owner contacted me and let me know they made some changes including getting rid of the employee who treated me poorly. He offered to make it up to me with a free service of some sort, I forget what. Doesn't matter - the point is that he made the effort to contact me and make it right. I admire that so much. I don't even live in the area anymore, but if I did, I'd go back and give them another chance. Old review: This place is awful. The guy there was rude, short with me, and totally ripped me off. My friend Heather had an awful experience here too - that's why I'm going to the trouble writing this review. I hope I can save someone from losing money and getting treated terribly. Terrible experience! I dropped my computer off to fix two things. I decided the next day that I didn't want to wait a week, so I went to pick it up. I was told they were ahead of schedule and already working on it. I was quoted over 500 to set it back to factory. Most of that was backup fees. It was a new computer and had maybe 3 files on it. He then lowered it by half when I pointed this out. I left it there, but I didn't feel I had a choice. When it was "done" a week later, it still had the same problems! He still charged me a ridiculous amount. When I complained, he told me about how many hours were spent on it. He did lower it a tiny bit, but not enough. Finally, when I dropped off my computer it had Windows 10. Now it has Windows 7! I feel like I was screwed and taken for. DO NOT GO HERE! I should have read the reviews myself. Bought a computer 6 months ago and already the SSD drive went kapoot! I was in a hurry to buy a computer and didn't do my HOMEWORK. This guy saw me coming. Several computer experts told me I paid $1k too much! Do your research and don't be in such a hurry I tell myself for the next time. read more

you would expect a local yokel ma 'n pa shop to have the best interaction but this guy was really stuck on himself, had a chip on his shoulder and was just plain rude and arrogant. You would think they would try to do the best they could since they have other big box shops breathing down their neck. I am new to the area and wanted to support the local guy, but not this one I am not going back. This guy told me one thing and then turned around and told me another. So I definitely don't trust him. The return policy is ridiculous. If I hadn't been on a time crunch I would've just walked out the door without purchasing anything and never come back. I'm not ever going back. And I'm going to make sure to tell people not to visit this place. read more

Took my aging PC in for repair, and they did a great job fixing it for me. They also offered several additional services, mostly cleaning up registries and clearing off malware; I took them up on these and my PC is running faster than I knew it could! I know many computer service companies are sketchy, but these guys seem great to me & I'd recommend them. read more

10/26/13 Update: Hi Dave, I understand your need to do damage control however the made up story of miscommunication just digs things deeper. I will say that you should even see there's inconsistencies with your technician's story. I brought in my laptop and clearly only had the H key coming off. I brought in the replacement and he even held it... so why would your technician offer me a whole new keyboard as an initial option? He's very creative with explaining the $35 and $65 supposed mix up to you but ...why would he even suggest a keyboard for a PC to someone who's missing one key in their laptop as another option? Why offer replacing an entire keyboard before attempting to replace the single key in? Shouldn't we have discussed the cost of replacing the key first ... which he did tell me would cost $35. And he told me it takes half an hour to do it the "proper way." If he was about to attempt to replace the key on the spot before I "ran out" then the mention of multiple repairs and emergencies he had in his story is a bit pointless. His story makes no sense because it didn't happen. As far as his subtle attempt at making me look to be the one at fault for the supposed miscommunication by saying I "ran out" before he could assist me is also not accurate. It was a very quiet and relaxed exchange and I even paused to consider whether I wanted my key replaced there or not. I imagine your place has security cameras. Take a look. I wasn't in a hurry. Things didn't get heated. There was no running or storming out. Judging by the multiple repairs and emergencies you've informed me that your technician had, I'd say he was in a hurry and at fault for this imagined miscommunication. Sorry but your technician isn't being honest with you. I however would like to thank you and appreciate the time you took to contact me. *********** Original review: I made the mistake of taking my laptop here under the assumption that this was a reasonable place to go. The issue wasn't viruses or spyware. Nor was my laptop running slow. I simply needed a key replaced... and I had the brand new key and clip with me. It's an easy job but I didn't have the confidence to do it myself. The man I spoke with told me there's a "quick and dirty" way of replacing it and then there's the "proper way" to replace it... which according to him takes about a half hour to do and their rate was $65 an hour but he'd charge me $35 since it's only a half hour job. Funny math. Despite that, I would gladly pay their rate which runs at a little over a $1/minute but it most definitely does not take 30 minutes to replace a key. That is just ridiculous. It should take no more than 5 minutes. When I got home I replaced it myself in less than 5 minutes. If it takes them that long to replace a simple key I can't imagine how long it takes them to repair a computer when something really is wrong with it. Honestly, if it takes so long for a simple job, you're either very bad at what you do or you're ripping people off from that hourly rate. I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt and assume he's an honest person who's simply incompetent. read more

Got home from a vacation to a non booting up computer. Called the guys at universal and told them how much I needed to be up and running to finish a bunch of christmas orders for my business. They had me come right down and it ended up being a simple fix that only took 10 minutes and then they sent me on my way free of charge! Only place I will take my computer! read more

We took our laptop in to have the keyboard replaced late one afternoon. The technician reported that it would take more than an hour. We told him that we had a significant time restriction that evening and would have to make some alternate arrangements. He asked us if 30 minutes would be more convenient---we said yes, and he made it happen! The laptop works beautifully, we appreciated the wonderful customer service, and we will definitely take our computers back to Universal Computers for service and repair. read more
