I don't truly understand; when you enter into employment with the United States Postal Service, do they simply suck out your soul during orientation, or is it a gradual process? Particularly for the people who work in the branches (postal delivery folks are fine), because it seems like at literally every post office people are just jerks. Every time they're monotone and completely disinterested in what they're doing. I worked in retail several years and of course it can be boring but I also said hello and tried to be cheerful to every person that I helped, and I just can't understand the attitude of practically shooting death rays at someone with the audacity to visit your workplace and need your assistance. But I came here to mail three cards, two to international addresses, and told the woman I needed stamps for them. I don't remember what question she asked but it was a good thing I specified that there were two international because she almost sold me three standard stamps. I was going to raise my rating (1) since my last review since the rude primary counter person has retired and new counter people are much more professional and friendly. However, this week I had another disappointment. I filed a Hold Mail card for the period May 14-18. Card was handed to counter person on May 11. My mail was delivered every single day!!!!! Thank goodness a neighbor checked each day. This on top of several missed delivery days in February and March. Informed Delivery lets me know what's late or missing. This post office needs better management or it should be closed. read more

The worse customer service one can ever get. One customer service person at the counters (1 out of 3). Service time is beyond unacceptable! Waiting time is scandalous! Lady at the desk is lack of basic mannerism, respect and lack of any customer service antiquate. For months (since summer 2024) this post office counter is service by one person ONLY. No back up. They close the counter / access to the counter - you charge the earth. Hire professional staff and pay them the earth. You should NOT keep this branch open if you can provide basic service. On the door it says that operating hours are 08:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I and many other residents and customers came in on numerous and countless occasions to find the red rope on poles with no access for service. Does this post office have a Post Master? If his name is Avery? If so, why does he not give a hand? There were eight or nine people in line for an hour!!! Post office visit in the time of Covid... It's been a few years since my last review, and this location is still my absolute favorite for mailing packages. The quality and consistency of service remains. And, now that they've added safety protocols to make it even better, they get my 5-star rating! Yesterday I stopped by to mail my last round of holiday gifts to my family. My hubby came with to help carry everything, and I was so distracted and in a hurry at first, that I literally walked in and left my mask in the car! After receiving death stares, I quickly realized I needed to exit IMMEDIATELY and dropped my package on the ground so my hubby could keep our place in line and went to the car to grab my mask. What the heck was I thinking? LOL! After the mask drama, I got back in line and stood at one of the 6' distance line markers with my hubby. In line, I looked around and the facility was truly spotless. I felt bad that there was only one masked worker up at the front, but she's been there forever, and I knew she could handle it. There was a pretty long long, and those who were impatient gave up and left (lucky for us as we moved up to the next 6' marker). Patience is a virtue this time of the year, and, sure enough, five minutes after the frustrated ones left, a second postal worker came out from the back and the line moved pretty fast. Once we got up to the window, it took literally 5 minutes for the lady in the reindeer antlers headband and mask to check us out, and we were on our way. She's always been my favorite postal worker. Top tips to those reading this: - Be patient and kind this time of the year. Budget cuts are real and there is limited staff at this post office now. But, they are really helpful and knowledgeable (especially the lady with the reindeer antlers). - Be patient, because if it gets crowded, there will be another worker that appears from the back (just when you think they won't). - Careful in the parking lot, because it's tight and cars need to slowly pull out to avoid hitting others (yes, I'm talking to the person who backed out and almost hit someone...not me...by being in a rush). They act like they're on personal time while on the clock, which makes for an extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional experience as a customer. Today, the woman working was on a personal phone call, arguing about getting her money back, while I was trying to make a simple purchase. I had to stop here to mail something and I was really impressed on how clean this place was! The cashier area was totally covered with plexiglass with just enough opening for a package to go through! Not sure what the purpose of making an appointment for a passport is when you only have one clerk working the desk. As expected extremely rude clerk. "Mmhmm, yep, no, etc..." no help, while we're trying to be extremely friendly with an 8month old baby. Told us to go and bring a check... I had to ask if there were any other options, maybe cash? ZERO STARES!!!! This is not just the worst post office but the worst business of any kind that I have ever witnessed! There is a line at all times. There is only 1 person working. She is not only terribly slow but also extremly unpleasant. She is also uninformed. The post office never has any supplies avaiable. As mentioned in other reviews, the post office at Techny is wonderful!! Bob is a pleasure to deal with and the other staff are helpful as well. Something has to be done in Deerfield. Closing the post office would be a drastic improvement. It would make the decission easier to go to Highland Park or to Techny. The wait is always too long in Deerfield. They are never prepared to open at 8:30, as advertised. I was second in line today. I arrived at 8:25. I was done at 8:50. This is a terrible terrible place!!! The staff here is pretty good; the facility is older but well maintained; the parking lot had lots of room but is in really bad shape (drive slowly to avoid potholes), and the service seems good (rarely any delivery or pickup problems). My biggest problem is with the automated postal kiosk seemingly having problems, more often than not. I work late, and rely on the after-hours postal kiosk. More than half the time, there is something wrong with the hardware or software that prevents me from printing my labels or postage. A lot of the time the touch screen will become unresponsive, and I can't proceed with just the physical keyboard or arrow buttons. Sometimes I get stuck in a loop where I can't get past the street number, effectively soft-locking me from finishing a label. On one occasion, the OS completely froze midway through typing, and didn't respond to anything. On two occasions, the system wouldn't recognize the scale, forcing me to use my own scale and buy first class postage instead of printing a Priority label. On one occasion it couldn't print postage (though I wasn't charged). I can't depend on the kiosk being operational after hours, which is a big problem for me. I'll come here first, because it's closer to where I live, but I always set aside time to drive to the Post Office in HP or on Dundee Rd. in case the kiosk at the Deerfield Post Office is malfunctioning again. read more

I came here to apply for a passport during my lunch hours since its the closest post office to where I work (I really think the USPS needs to reevaluate their passport hours -- it's conflicting for nine-to-fivers). When I came on Monday, the woman told me I needed to submit my marriage certificate along with the application since my ID wasn't changed yet to reflect my name change. Fair enough. I came back two days later with it. This time, I had a different lady help me and she informed me that the marriage certificate wasn't good enough -- I need the ID changed first. Frustrated, I explained that I was told something else and can't change the ID for awhile as I am waiting for something else to happen first. She was gracious about it and let me apply anyway. I really hope the application goes through.... I was frustrated that I was told different things, but I have to say this post office has the nicest, happiest people I have ever seen working in a post office. I appreciated their patience with me. I called with a delivery problem. I was never allowed to explain the problem. The postmaster was defensive from the get-go: how could there possibly be any problems? He continued to talk over me (interrupt) every time I tried to explain the situation. I asked him to let me explain without the interruptions and he blew up at me. My problem was never resolved and by the time I hung up the phone I was in tears. I continue to have a delivery problem that, apparently, doesn't matter to the good folks at the Deerfield post office. I was actually quite shocked by the treatment I received. I receive somebody else's mail constantly. Magazines were not delivered many times. Spoke with the Postmaster several times - no changes. One of the managers is extremely mean, hangs up on you. I really don't know why I even bother with USPS. UPS, FedEx, and DHL all have proven to be more efficient to me with past experiences. I called this post office to inquire about some services and fees and I am referred to check everything online. There really is no point in calling if the person answering the phone has no knowledge or simply chooses not to answer the questions. Last few experiences with USPS have been unpleasant and have discouraged me from using USPS for any future needs. read more

I was dreading going into the post office with two kids, but decided to go in and get my errand done. Both kids were well behaved but my baby was really squirmy in my arms while waiting in line. I guess I was standing maybe two inches in front of the sign that read, "line starts here", and was scolded by the post office worker when I was checking out. Completely unnecessary as both kids were quiet and respectful, I just had my hands really full! I would never consider making a yelp review on a post office, but this experience just made me feel badly and did not need to happen. read more

Customer service while in the actual building is the only saving grace for this post office. The staff are very friendly. But, unfortunately the customer service on the phone falls short. It's usually the same man that answers the phone (in my case at least) he is very curt, seems like he's bothered by answering my questions, and is in a hurry to get off the phone. For one example I called about a package that was suppose to to have arrived already, I was looking on the paper to give him the tracking number and he butted in say 'can't you just write the number down and call me back?' I was taken aback by his blunt rudeness. I told him the number as fast as I could worried he may just hand up if I was courteous and gave the number a little slower and more clearly. He interjected and said its not here it's still in the original mailing facility. I asked if he had any idea when it could arrive, he said it was predicted two days after it was arranged to arrive (even though I paid extra for a certain time frame of shipping) and he said but I have no clue when it'll arrive. And he annoyingly asked if I had anything else and I said 'no thank you' and he said okay and hung up. Ugh irritating. read more
