If you live in Northbrook, sooner or later you're going to have to go to the post office. In person. Like death and taxes, it's just about unavoidable. Northbrook isn't the quaint little suburb it once was, but the post office lobby remains as cramped as ever. There's only room for about two people to stand in line. After that, you're going to be waiting in the main lobby. At one time they had three agents to wait on people; I see that there are now only two counter positions. And when I came at 5 pm today, there was only one person working the counter. I suppose this is all due to budget cuts and staff reductions. In all fairness, the postal service has tried to adapt and modernize as much as possible. You can use machines for certain routine tasks like buying stamps (and you can have stamps mailed to your home if you prefer). But if you need to pick up a package or a certified letter, you're going to have to make a personal appearance if a signature is required. Today I was lucky. I didn't get stuck behind someone asking a million questions, with a couple dozen letters needing to be individually weighed (like the last time I came). The person at the counter who assisted me was efficient and helpful. I was out of there in less than 5 minutes. Unbelievable! I think the main thing they need is more space. But I don't know if that's going to happen anytime soon.

Horrendously slow. I've been twice. Each time employee wearing filthy shirt and loudly chewing gum. So gross.

Particularly for the people who work in the branches (postal delivery folks are fine), because it seems like at literally every post office people are just jerks. Every time they're monotone and completely disinterested in what they're doing. I worked in retail several years and of course it can be boring but I also said hello and tried to be cheerful to every person that I helped, and I just can't understand the attitude of practically shooting death rays at someone with the audacity to visit your workplace and need your assistance. But I came here to mail three cards, two to international addresses, and told the woman I needed stamps for them. I don't remember what question she asked but it was a good thing I specified that there were two international because she almost sold me three standard stamps. Then she kinda tossed them back to me and pointed me to where the drop slot was. OK, thanks.

Really disappointed with the UPS drivers dispatched out of this location. I had a package that I…read moredid not need to sign for that was going to be delivered today and live in a secure condo complex with a security camera at the foyer. Instead of having my package delivered, I received a notification that the UPS driver decided not to deliver my package ("attempted delivery") because there was "no secure location" to drop packages. In my experience, this is clear BS: I have seen UPS packages left in the foyer previously so it is clearly negligence or laziness and not any regard for the packages' safety. My next step was to call the UPS customer care line. It took me fifteen minutes to reach an actual human; said actual human was extremely dismissive and rude, and unhelpful. At times, it felt like she was actively trying to hide information from me: she kept mentioning that my packages would be available for pickup here, but never mentioned the address or even city of this pickup center. When I asked about the address, the lady on the line scoffed and acted as if I should just know these things. I tried to reschedule pickup here and was told that I would receive a call when the packages were ready for pickup. No such call came. Since I live very far from Northbrook and needed my packages ASAP, I had to pay $14 to have these packages rerouted to my local UPS store. Let's hope they actually show up. The icing on the cake: they never even left a "sorry we missed you" notice. Like, are you kidding me?

While headed to the Green Bay Trail for a run, I found this United States Postal Service (Glencoe…read morePost Office) to be the closest near the trail while enroute. At the time, I had an eBay shipment that needed to be shipped out. I took a liking to its cute building which sat in a classy looking area nearby Glencoe Village Hall right in the heart of Glencoe! Via Village Ct, I was able to veer quickly into a parking spot rather than entering off of Hazel Ave. Along with its cute building exterior, the inside environment gave off a very positive vibe rather than a negative one. As I waited to be seen, I adored the postal clerks' interaction with a customer ahead of me, who had a young daughter. The interaction appeared so genuine which put a smile on my face immediately while in line and as I moved towards the counter to be helped. As someone who visits post offices regularly whether it be for Poshmark or eBay shipments, the postal clerk presented one of the friendliest vibes I have ever encountered at any post office location. After giving the clerk my package, he questioned me if it had anything liquid or hazardous inside then explained to me the shipment options for my package which I always choose the cheapest, hehe. As a Poshmark Ambassador on Poshmark, and someone with a 100% positive feedback rating on eBay as long as the package gets to my buyer I am always satisfied. I was on my way in minutes. I am terrible at doing the surveys pertaining to my visits at post offices, but best believe I always share some sort of a review. Being that I had a great experience, I would gladly utilize this United States Postal Service (Glencoe Post Office) again when in the area. ~ Embrace the journey. ~ Thomas G

Worst post office in the area... You are better off going to either the Highwood or Deerfield post…read moreoffices. If you're going west, the Northbrook post office on Dundee Rd. is better, and the one on Church near Shermer in Northbrook is the best yet (though really small). I avoid the Highland Park post office unless I absolutely can't get out to another office, or just to drop a package off. If you're just dropping off envelopes, go to a drop box anywhere else (the one in Jewel is good), or you can get trapped in the round-about because of that infernal traffic light. You can't pay me to wait in line here. The staff - goodness bless them - seem to be working hard, but just can't keep up with the demand. There's almost always a line, and it's frequently packed because of how many people refuse to use the kiosk (which can do 75% of what the people waiting in line seem to need). Unfortunately this creates a bottleneck, making it impossible to access the kiosk or the PO boxes, because the line is out the door. Even when you can get to the self-serve kiosk, half the time I'm there it's having technical problems. It's either completely down, or isn't able to perform some service. Even when it's working, it's super slow and the dimension sensors never work, so I have to manually enter everything. At least it seems like the screen got an upgrade sometime last winter. Still, I can't seem to count on the self-service kiosk working. Oh, also, the automatic door there is SLOOOOW and - on two or three occasions - it didn't open all the way (not sure if it was a mechanical issue or because of the wind). If you're in wheelchair or mobility device, you might have problems as well. Entering the lot is a mess, because there's a huge incline that some lower cars will scrape on, and it'll really test your suspension. The eastbound stoplight accommodates left turns into the lot for a few seconds, but only if traffic moves nicely - and nobody in downtown Highland Park seems to drive with urgency. The lot near the building entrance is cramped, and nobody in downtown Highland Park seems to know how to park straight either, so it can be a mess. If you're driving a large SUV or truck, good luck. Parking near the drop-box / Sunset Woods Park entrance is a safer bet. Take it slow when exiting, if you want to keep your muffler, because that ramp transition is even worse on the way out. Seriously, folks; go to the Highwood or Deerfield post office instead. They aren't great, but they still operate better and are much more convenient to get in and out of. The kiosks seem to work better there. If you are going west or south, the Northbrook post office on Church near Shermer or the Techny post offices are WAAAAY better - possibly the best in the area. You can also get a lot of stuff done at the USPS.com website, and save yourself a trip to the post office all-together.
