I was forced to replaced the roof in a tight time frame by my new home owner insurance company, otherwise they will not write the new policy for my house. I have contacted 3 roofers including United Roofing, James. He is the first one reply to me on the same day. The other 2, one get back to me 3 days later and one 4 days later. James gave me the estimate within 2 days while the other 2, one, a week and a half later and the other one never responded anymore. James provided the best price by far and was able to squeeze in the time to replace the roof within the insurance company timeline. The other was very expensive and cannot start until a week after the insurance timeline. The contract from United Roofing was clear and well written. James was very responsive and very polite when we were talking about the details in the contract. I like working with him, it;s is very important to me to work with contractor that likes to work with their customer. When they started the work, I was up on the roof seeing how the install the new roof, especially installing the flashing part. Very well trained and everyone has good knowledge and experience on what they are doing. Of curse, i asked them questions and provided the correct answers. I was one an electrician and had experience dealing with different contractors, so I know who is BSing me and who really know their stuffs. After they finished their excellent job on time, I had referred 3 more customers to James. Including my friend who referred James to me. After purchasing our new home, the first thing we needed to do was replace the roof (pitch, flat and garage). We had about 4 different contractors come by to provide estimates. I had a wonderful experience with United Roofing! My parents' home in SF was in need of a long overdue roof replacement. I had sent out multiple inquiries to different roofing companies to get assessments and bids. Out of all of the companies, James was the most responsive and flexible. My father had built a covering over the central patio that he plans on replacing eventually. All of the other roofers required discarding it to do the work, but James was the only one who said he would remove it, have the roof done, then replace it. WE hired UNITED ROOFING to replace our roof, in the Sunset District of San Francisco, after interviewing more than 8 Bay Area Roofers and Insulation specialists. They did an outstanding job, in just 3 days at a competitive price. WE ASKED for a new roof that will add to the INSULATION of the house: - they were the ONLY one proposing adding a layer of 1" fiberglass base sheet insulation material before the bitumen. WE ASKED to make the roof WHITE, for better solar reflection: they proposed using a bitumen membrane "granulated surface with your choice of color" ! WE ASKED that a vent be moved 2 feet to the South, to clear more roof space for the future installation of SOLAR panels. NO PROBLEM, they said! WE ASKED that the pitch roof on the front of the house and the porch be covered with red tiles: Yes, we can do it, they said. We will use "S" tiles, they are the best... They also replaced ALL vents and pipe flashing, AND the downspouts in the front and back of the unit. He did point out some minor bubbles on our roof from the previous installation that was caused by heating the material too high. James came (1/2 hour late) and I showed him the problem with my leaking skylight that was NOT a major problem, just dripping down the inside wall slightly, which I thought may just be in need of new caulking to seal it. I explained that we had a leak 2 floors down and were not sure if these were connected in any way. He said it was too "slippery" for him to go up on the roof (has been raining all day) and that "he wouldn't risk his life" going up there, which I can understand, if it's not a good time to investigate, FINE, but let's plan to do that when it is DRY...He refused to even try to re-schedule or say that there was someone else in his so-called "company" to come back and look at it. I have worked with James for my home in San Bruno. We bought an Eichler style home which is a flat roof. Unfortunately, if the roof is not properly constructed, you run the risk of standing water. We had a lot of leaks throughout the home. The skylights were leaking and there were other leaks in the main living room which was running my hardwood floors. We didn't have the money to do a full roof repair. James and his crew came out to do an estimate. He did a roof leak test and was able to identify where the roof was leaking.
