From the beginning Manuel was challenging to get ahold of (no responses on emails mostly). Work started a week later than we had agreed on and Initially the project was supposed to take 3 days - demo, install, finishing- and it was suggested that it could be done in one week. The project started September 25 2024 and was finally finished November 15, almost 2 months. During demo we had to ask them to stop because they did not tape off the space and spread huge amounts of dust throughout our house that we ended up needing to do lead and aesbestos testing to move forward (not to mention, I had to take a day off of work to clean up the mess created). We had to call and text and basically beg them to send people out to finish the work and we could tell we were a very low priority- mostly working Saturdays, canceling multiple times after committing to dates, unwilling to commit to days until a day or two in advance, etc. He pretended he would work around our schedule but if that was the case, this work would have NEVER been completed. I canceled plans 3 times during this process to make myself available to get this work done. After demo, I think they realized this job was more complicated than originally anticipated but instead of telling us that, Manuel just kept us guessing, unsure if the timeline had changed- he did not want to communicate specifics with us which we would have really appreciated and welcomed. We learned quickly that they were not particularly respectful of our space so we began taping up our own plastic space dividers to keep dust and fumes out of the rest of our living space. The workers were very nice and I believe the issue is with management rather than the workers themselves. In the end, the work is nice enough which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1. The finished work was absolutely not worth the headache and displacement we experienced to get it done. It was a truly painful experience. I have other cabinetry projects I would like to do but will absolutely not be hiring MJ Custom cabinetry again to do the work.

Some of my cabinet paint and varnish were damaged by persistent contact with water and moisture at…read morea rental unit. The house painter wanted to cover the damage, but I didn't like the idea of slapping paint over real wood. I visited a few other cabinet resurfacing and maker companies in the Santa Clarita area. One place didn't want to do "spot" repairs because it wasn't worth their time. I found Miller Cabinetry & Millworks on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I emailed Tom, the owner, and attached a few pictures showing the damage and the areas needing repair. He replied promptly and said his employee, Ricky, could take on the job as a side project. Ricky texted me a very detailed quote outlining the work, timeline, and cost. He came over the same day to remove all the doors, panels, and drawers, then took them back to the shop to sand and strip the old varnish. On another day, he came back to sand and refinish the entire dishwasher and sink side of the cabinets. All the wood frames were completely free of old varnish. Through trial and error, Ricky manually color‑matched the finish to my existing cabinets. Aside from the slight gloss of the new varnish, it was very hard to tell the difference (see the picture of the lower and upper cabinets). Ricky's craftsmanship is top‑notch. I couldn't be happier with the results -- the repairs were completed in just a few days, and I definitely got my money's worth.

Ed and Jose are good salesman. That's about as far as it goes. We were told the 677 sq. ft. ADU…read morewould take between 4 to 6 months. Worst case scenario 6 months. It took 2 years. Just about every part of the build needed to be addressed from the mistakes that were made. The foundation needed to be moved because they said they didn't need the surveyor to stake it because they should be very close. When the inspector came out before the pour, they were of by an inch for the 4 foot clearance. The inspector made them move it. They fell so far behind they were doing drywall before the windows were installed. Only one window was in the right location. All the ruff openings had to be moved. The soffit for the kitchen cabinets was framed wrong. Just about every faze of the build needed to be corrected. We went through 7 project managers. Luckily I have some knowledge about construction and was able to pick up these mistakes before it became a bigger problem. Having my brother in law as the architect didn't hurt either. The only thing I can say is the ADU came out nice. If you think you can deal with this type of experience, by all means go for it. Oh forgot one thing. On the day of an inspection the inspector had to be escorted by the fire department because they hit my gas line. The next day they hit it again. Instead of following the line they started where they wanted to finish and hit it again. Think carefully in your disiscion.
