Graham took the time to understand where the problem originated and came back the following day to fix the shower for good. While he was here, I asked him to look at the bathroom sink (also installed by a previous plumber) to see if he could unclog the slow moving drain. He took apart the pipes and tried to manually unclog the very clogged pipes but had to come back the following day with a machine to effectively do the job. Graham was timely, communicative (always texts right back) and makes sure to get the job done for the price he quotes. I hired him that same week to install 2 AC units in 2 different bedrooms. He quickly built a wooden extension for one of the units so the AC would fit securely in the window. Graham made time in his schedule to get these in promptly with hot weather approaching. Graham even identified a strange noise coming from our fridge as the evaporator fan and helped me get this fixed with the manufacturer. Next up: I've hired Graham to repolish the basement floors. I highly recommend Graham. He's considerate, skilled and knowledgeable and does very good work. I will continue to hire him to do work on our house.

This job included removing a drop ceiling, installing a new drywall ceiling, installing a new ceiling light fixture, prepping and painting the entire kitchen, and repairing the alignment of a large cabinet. In general, I would hire Peter again (and again) for any work in the future. Peter came over to discuss what we wanted and within a day he provided a quote in writing. He estimated the project would take three days. Prior to the start date, our sink faucet required repair which I added to the project. This was outside the original scope. What I like about working with Peter: * Peter is a good listener and asked good questions about what we wanted prior to providing his quote * He is very personable and easy to talk with about something I know nothing about - rehabbing and construction work * He arrived on time every day * He gave us updates on how the work was progressing * Peter brought a helper (Julio) who was as professional, neat and careful as he was * He decided to do a second coat of paint at no charge because the walls needed it * Although the project took an extra day, the work quality was excellent * I felt compelled to remind him of the cabinet and faucet repair - NO NEED! He had both repairs done before I brought them up - no charge for the broken faucet My kitchen is transformed!

They were very prompt in replying back to my web inquiry and scheduled a time for Joe to come out. Joe was really thorough in estimating what should be done and was nice to have. We ended up going with the full proposal since we realized that this was work that would last 15 years or so. (Tuckpointing our fronts and sides, and also repair of our front steps, recaulking). Diane from the office was very good at communicating from the outset , from what needed to get completed when , securing permits scheduling a final walk through,. The onsite crew was very diligent in getting the work done but also communicating to our neighbors and blowing off any residual dust). They also did a great job in cleanup , rinsing off anything after the work had cured/completed. Tuckpointing is certainly not a cheap project, but we have good foundational things on the outside now that will last through the rigors of a Chicago season. While their work is great, I thought the communication was above at the top of my experience with many contractors/vendors. I look forward to reaching back out to them in 2040 (if they're still doing this work then. :)

I needed a new cabinet for the bathroom after some remodeling and whatnot, so I looked around for a…read morecouple of cabinet places. This place is in a nondescript strip mall in Lincolnwood just outside Chicago, and I just happened to see it as I was driving home one day. I wanted to check out a few places so I added them to my list. Their hours are not super easy to work with, especially if you're a working individual, so you'll probably want to either make an appointment or contact them to confirm their hours for the day or week to make sure someone will be there. Marta helped me understand the cabinets that I might be able to choose from for my space, find something of a relatively inexpensive price point, and the countertop options for it as well. There were some hiccups. Communication leaves a lot to be desired. Even disregarding the Memorial Day holiday where there was no communication for about five days (I get it, people take time off plus their limited schedule), it was like pulling teeth to get information I needed--for instance, when I asked what they needed from me to get the job started, I got an email saying that they'd probably need a deposit. That was the full email--no instructions on how to provide one, when, etc. So I had to respond back to them to ask how to make a deposit to get the work done and it was several days before I got an email saying that I could bring a check (because apparently they do check only) during their very limited hours of 9:30-3. Oh, and to let them know when I was coming so that they'd actually be able to help me I guess. They intimated they take check only as payment, so I had to go during my workday to pay. I arrived 10 minutes after they opened--specifically after they told me they opened, because I asked via email for them to confirm their hours and that they'd be there since I needed to go during work--and no one was there when I arrived. So that was a bit annoying. Having said all that, I chose to work with them because they were by far the quickest option and reasonably priced. The townhome in which I live we hopefully will sell within the coming months, so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on this. Also, with my mom visiting in fewer than six weeks from the time I was looking, I needed the work to be done as immediately as possible. Kitchen & Bath Cabinets Center said they said it would be about two weeks. Given the cabinet place in my neighborhood said it would take five weeks just to get the cabinetry in--and then I'd have to find my own installers)--and not being able to really get much help from Studio41, this company was the clear choice. But if I wasn't worried about the timeframe (and planned to remain in the home longer than say a year), I may have gotten frustrated and gone elsewhere. Whilst this was all happening I was on the fence as to whether I'd recommend this contractor to someone else, and it would definitely have been with some caveats. However, now that the work is done I would recommend them as someone to check out knowing you'll need to have patience and be flexible. They did get it installed within a couple weeks, and it's absolutely beautiful work. They provided installation, which others didn't, so that was something that I didn't have to worry about finding separately (that alone may have tipped me to using them, to be honest). They also prepared the custom vent area that was necessary since there is a vent hole under where this unit was/is. They put on the cabinet pulls I'd purchased from Lowes, and would have done the plumbing but since I had a plumber coming anyway I preferred he take care of it. Now I just need to find someone to install the mirror that was once above the space and the bathroom will be all set.

I hired A-1 PAM Plastering & Remodeling to perform drywall installation and paint work totaling…read moreover $7,000. Unfortunately, the experience was characterized by poor workmanship, incomplete repairs, and egregiously sloppy finishing. All of the labor was performed by a subcontractor, and at no point did the owner return to inspect the work. After initially claiming the work was complete, multiple significant issues remained unresolved. These included visible drywall seams, unpatched or poorly sanded corners, baseboards that were improperly cut and reinstalled, trim that was left broken and unpainted, dropped paint splotches left on flooring, doors, and fixtures, and a black door incorrectly repainted without consent. Furniture was also moved back against wet paint, causing damage. I gave the company *two additional opportunities* to correct these issues. Each time I was pressured to make full payment before the paint had even dried or a final walkthrough could be done. Despite these return visits, many problems remained completely unaddressed. At that point, I had lost confidence in their willingness and ability to complete the work properly. I ultimately accepted a 15% reduction (a $1,000 discount) from the total in order to bring the matter to a close. I now face the cost and hassle of hiring someone else to correct a long list of remaining problems that will certainly exceed the cost of the small discount. I would also like to point out that Yelp has filtered 17 reviews as "not recommended," which it has deemed less reliable, written by friends of the business, or sent from the same computer, compared to the reviews that made it through the filters. Combined with their poor work quality and intimidation tactics (see below), it leaves me questioning the legitimacy of many the other reviews. Worse yet, within minutes of posting this review, I received a call from the owner. Rather than take any responsibility, he began by sarcastically thanking me for the "nice review," then proceeded to yell, insult me, and claim it was unfair. I asked him whether he thought anything I had written was inaccurate or untrue. He did not say that it was. Instead, I was told that I shouldn't have posted it after we had "settled." That call reinforced everything I had already concluded about the company. My review is not about a disagreement over money--it's about warning others of the shoddy workmanship and unprofessional conduct I experienced. I cannot in good conscience recommend A-1 PAM for any home renovation work.
