Disappointing handling of a cancellation--and conflicting explanations afterward My partner and I were scheduled to return from Punta Cana to Washington Dulles on United flight UA1614 on August 27, 2026. The flight was delayed approximately seven times. After spending hours waiting, we finally boarded and believed we were going home. While we were already seated on the aircraft, we received an email from United notifying us that the flight had been canceled. Communication throughout the disruption was extremely poor. We had to deplane, retrieve our luggage, and were transported by United to Sunscape Coco Punta Cana for the night. The accommodations United provided had numerous cleanliness and maintenance issues, which we photographed and documented. I was also already ill and had received medical treatment in Punta Cana, making the situation especially difficult. We were eventually rebooked on UA3042 on August 28 and returned home a day later than scheduled. United UA1614.pdf What has been especially frustrating is United's response afterward. United gave the two passengers traveling together different explanations. In the response to my complaint, United stated that UA1614 was canceled due to technical issues. In its separate response to my partner, United referred to weather delays. That inconsistency only adds to my concerns about the communication surrounding this disruption. I submitted a detailed formal complaint with documentation. United acknowledged my experience but directed me to United Cares, where I was offered only a $50 United travel credit. I understand that delays and cancellations happen and that safety must come first. My complaint is about how United handled everything surrounding the disruption: repeated delays, poor communication, learning about the cancellation by email while sitting on the aircraft, unacceptable overnight accommodations, and then receiving conflicting explanations afterward. After providing United with detailed documentation and giving the company an opportunity to address our concerns privately, I expected a much more substantive response. I gave two stars, because I eventually got home! read more

United Airlines in Dullas is the worst airline I have ever seen. No one can give you any answers to what's going on, the customer service desk closes at 10 PM. There is no one around who can help you rebook your canceled flights or explain why delays get just delayed every hour for another hour. I would give them zero stars if that was an option. read more

Well what's to say about a shit show? That's often what it's like getting United flights here. There is never any rhyme or reason at the gates. Yes, they announce boarding rules (group lineups) but don't enforce it. All of a sudden it's mayhem with people rushing the gate to get to the plane. In a hurry to just wait. I wish the gate agents would take the time to better control the stampedes. read more

This was a late night flight. The seats would have benefitted from more cushioning. The flight attendant crew was not very friendly on this flight . There were in flight screens and head phones and sanitizing wipes were passed out. It cost $35 to bring a carry on with precheck , but there was an announcement made that the bins were full, and there was a "free "offer to check your bag instead. I was glad that I had opted not to bring on a carry on. Emphasis was placed on one personal item per passenger. It needed to be able to fit under your seat. We were advised to compartmentalize to meet this request. read more

United Airlines was a good airline to fly on. I really thought their communication skills were top notch. They kept us updated on gate changes, seat changes, and on any flight delays. I would have to say that the seats are cramped and hard to move around. I would agree you felt a little like sardines packed in a can. The plane staff were all very nice and accommodating. When, we were flying into Dulles there were storms and I think the pilot did a great job navigating the landing. Boarding and luggage were all handled smoothly. My only real complaints would be the extra costs for sitting close to the wing and the cramped seats. I would fly United again, but I might check and see how much business class is, since you have more room. So, go ahead, fly the friendly skies of United. read more

I will summarize my UA1057 flight from IAD to ORD and my return UA1634 flight from ORD to IAD. TSA pre-check was very smooth for both of us. TSA has all new modern scanning equipment installed at IAD. Our United UA1057 flight from IAD to Chicago ORD was located at gate D7 across from the United Club located adjacent to gate D8, therefore we hung at the club prior to boarding our UA1057 flight. We boarded UA1057 as Group 1, however while online I was upgraded to first class, using my 20 PlusPoints so I was happy. Our flight departed and arrived on time, however we had to spend some time waiting on the ORD tarmac before arriving at our gate. On our return from ORD to IAD on UA1634 I was again upgraded to first class seat 1F again using my 20 PlusPoints several days prior to our departure. I was very happy that I was upgraded on both of my roundtrip flights. TSA pre-check again was very smooth. We hung at United Club across from our gate so it again was a short walk to our gate. We boarded UA1634 as Group 1. UA1634 departed and arrived on time. Our luggage arrived on an earlier flight, therefore we were able to pick up our luggage very quickly. Overall we enjoyed our round trip flights from IAD to ORD. read more

We like United Airlines a lot, but not as much as when we first started flying forty years ago. Hmmm, if I could summarize everyone's feelings and review, by saying that. The industry as a whole, has gone down hill. A Greyhound bus ride in the sixties would have been nicer, but I digress... since today, we were in Business Class for our overseas trip to Italy. Extra room a plenty. Our own overhead bin. Real silverware. Good food. Hence the Three and a Half Star review. Don't hate me for rounding it up to Four Stars read more

The United Airlines economy, or even economy plus seats are getting smaller and smaller as the years progress, making for a stiff and uncomfortable journey for any flight longer than say two hours. Having said that this review is especially for their business class - both the regular and Polaris; for the kind of money paid the service offered in business class is not as good when compared to their peers like Emirates or Qatar airlines. As a saving grace, I find them better than some of the European carriers like Lufthansa. Also, I like their regular business class better than Polaris for which you have to pay extra and while Polaris may be enticing on paper, the seats are pretty cramped and the service not so very good. read more

Someone closed my window..because the window isnt even centered, we were deadass sharing a window. We got delayed 40 minutes because of "weather conditions", meanwhile no other airline did that for the past 2 flights with the same weather. What can I say?? It's United. It is what it is...a hit or miss. I've had some terrible flights and some amazing flights. Being that this was my first flight in 5 years, I can't complain since I didn't know to expect...what has changed, etc. They charge for e v e r y thing: -seat selection -extra leg room -checking in bags -gate checking in bags (esp if group 6 or no overhead compartment available) Did I miss anything?? Basic snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are free. Hopefully passengers won't be charged to walk the aisle or use the bathroom in the future!! I don't remember having to pay upwards of ~$20 for selecting my seat in the past...but since they bundle seat selection and 1 check-in bag, I opted for that ($40 each, total $80 one way). Since I booked a United "Basic Economy", I was only allowed a personal item and ended up in Group 6. Boo. Since it was a short flight, I didn't need the bells and whistles, just leg room and aisle seat. The flight attendants were either super friendly or just cordial. I had the bare minimum interaction with them. The flights flying out of IAD have been pretty seamless, no issues. The United hub at IAD is quite large with plenty of bathrooms. Passengers have to be shuttled from the main terminal. There is a Starbucks at the shuttle entrance, which allows mobile ordering (highly recommended); Dunkin is also available closer to the gates. There are also plenty of eating options available. I don't like airport food and always bring my own food, luckily there are plenty of seating options (outside restaurant seating), most of which also include charging areas for devices. The United app is just fantastic. While I tend to be a bit archaic at times...I loved being able to do almost anything flight-related through the app. This includes checking-in for the flight, adding a check-in bag, viewing the gate/carousel number, etc. They really made everything seamless with minimal interaction. There is also the option to share the trip tracking and boarding passes with others via messaging, WhatsApp, etc. This is especially useful for those picking up passengers. Would I take United again? Yes, of course as long as it's a direct domestic flight. read more

Last time I flew United through Dulles, I had a pleasant experience. The gate agents were very helpful to any passenger that stepped up to the counter. The seating area was comfortable and large enough to accommodate the passengers. It's unfortunate that many times one or two passengers have a bad experience and they bad mouth the airline, when things like weather, mechanical or other issues could be the ones affecting the timeliness of the flight. Overall a good experience. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Hugo T. at United Airlines. I politely asked if there was any way my parents and I could be seated together on our flight to Barcelona. Instead of trying to help or even explaining the options, he was dismissive and came across as rude. I then asked another employee, who was kind enough to assist me. While she was helping, I overheard Hugo telling another passenger that upgrades were available. When I approached him again, he avoided making eye contact and still refused to help or provide any meaningful assistance. What upset me most wasn't that my request couldn't be accommodated--it was the lack of basic customer service, respect, and professionalism. A simple explanation or courteous response would have gone a long way. I left feeling dismissed and undervalued as a customer. I hope United addresses the importance of treating all passengers with courtesy and respect. read more

My First time flying with United and my last. I'm being generous with the stars. Mostly good service for the flight attendant and the cabin crew. There's a reason why their fares are cheap. I'm flew direct to Dayton. The plane looked so cheap. There was no walkway. We had to walk outside, and walk up some steps to board. I thought it was a joke. The plane was dinky. The seats were so cramp. Plane had 12 rows one aisle. Seats were not comfy. Very cramped. Flight was very bumpy. Phone customer service is terrible, they out source their call center, barely could understand. United Air fares are cheap for a reason. I rather pay a few dollars more and fly with SW or AA read more

Worst experience ever. The gate attendants make up rules that contradict their own website. I was told "we make our own rules here" by a United gate agent when I told him he was breaking ACAA regulations. He refused to read the website rules, his supervisor could not figure out computer. UNITED SUCKS!!!! Loaded our plane from IAD to OGG with stop in SFO and then we were told to deplane due to a technical issue. Rebooked on a new aircraft 3 hours later. Missed our connection in SFO to Maui. They rebooked us on Hawaiian Airlines the next morning from SFO at 8am. So we had to spend the night at the airport hotel. Even though we did not fly with them from SFO to Maui, they charged us Economy Plus upgrades and baggage fees - these were never reimbursed. They provided a voucher for one of the hotel rooms. Polaris has some of the nicest lounges I've been to, but for this leg of my 2 week Asia/Australia work trip coming back to the US, there was only their sister company's lounges available so we waited in the New Zealand lounge (farrrrrr better than Singapore Airlines'). The flight itself was nice - it was ON time and I whizzed through pre-boarding and got to my business class seat in just a couple minutes after leaving the lounge. There wasn't much food - I had a small peace of Salmon and fruits, so I can't speak to the actual food, but I liked my seat. I actually preferred it over my Singapore Airlines business class seat which people always raved over. It's more high tech, intuitive, and designed for comfort. I didn't get to stay at the Polaris lounge in SF which I was bummed over bc that's supposed to be one of the BEST lounges United has to offer. I had a layover in SF (and they were boarding already by the time I got off the first flight) and THAT United flight from SF to DC was disgusting but that's bc it's domestic. It was first class but first class in domestic means absolutely nothing. I had to sit next to a woman who wouldn't stop coughing and in this day and age, you better watch yourself bc people get nervous over that. I ended up putting on 3 masks and holding my breath for most of that 6 hour flight. The breakfast wasn't too bad though - sausage, frittata, fruits, and a yoghurt with some tomato juice. I generally don't drink alcohol on flights for work for obvious reasons (and since I don't want to die of dehydration) so I can't speak to the selection there. I'm always going to be a United patron since Star Alliance is what I grew up on, and sure, they need work just like any other airlines, but they are more promising than, e.g., Delta. read more

Everyone has a bad day. Most of my experiences with UA is good. However, Today there were many delays from this flight going to Tampa from IAD. Bathrooms were not working and unavailable to waiting customers. Issues on this flight was maintenance problems. One led to another. UA did not feel their customers need to know what the maintenance problems were. Once maintenance did fix the problems customers still had to wait for two more customers from a connecting flight to join us. More delays. When the plane finally took off the sounds from the engines were horrible. Another observance was how folks treated each other before even boarding the plane, before the above issues were made known. The point of this is does anyone know the two passengers? They are horrible humans. Treating other passengers with disrespect as if they are better and more important than anyone else while the flight attendants gave a blind eye. If you do know them sorry for you. As always. Unimpressed with United Airlines. I was re-routed here for a later flight because of a delay making me miss my international connection to London and I arrived several hours later than I was supposed to and had a longer layover here than intended. My original ticket was over $1700 so it wasn't cheap - I was told because of 'weather' I didn't need to be rebooked on a partner airline (there were multiple available flights leaving for London that would allow me to arrive on time). I googled the weather issues in the area of departure and found it to be 65 degrees, clear, and sunny. Lies in order to not have to re-book someone due to other airline issues are not my problem when I spent almost $2k to travel with this company. Can I give 0 stars? If I could I would!!! Never have I had a good experience with United. NOT ONCE! (And never have I ever wrote a bad review) Today is just the most recent disaster with United. I had a flight at 5 PM on the 3rd (got to the airport at 3)... it kept getting delayed (no not for weather) more and more until we finally boarded at 9PM. We sit on a burning hot plane for over an hour just for them to announce that the crew officially hit their max flight hours (which they admitted they knew was going to happen hours ago) and so now they have to START TO look for a new crew and expected that to take 2 hours so we de board. So now we sit in the airport for 2 hours waiting until we hear they have found a new crew and they are ALL on their way in as they speak. Fast forward 30 min we hear they are at the airport and on the way and so we board again. 30 minutes later they announce that the pilot decided he would no longer fly the plane because he's tired and so he waited to be at the airport to decide to bail. So now we deplane (again) and wait in line for hours to reschedule and get refunds. While we wait we have tried every resource United has to offer to help and absolutely none of them help at all. After 2 hours waiting in line to talk to them, we are 4 people away (5 people are left in line) and the lady says that she is leaving and that we can take it up with the people online. I told them o tried calling every resource and number and robot they provided and none of them would answer and her response word for word was " well that sucks but we're leaving, take it up with someone else" as she turns her computer off while in the middle of helping someone (didn't finish helping her) and goes. Now they left us without any help at 4:30 in the morning stranded with nothing to do... just another Wednesday at United. All I can say is United will make your life a living hell. Oh and after canceling our flight... no refund read more

do yall ever have flight attendants or pilots who aren't clocked out??? lol to sum up our experience, our flight had a 24 hour delay, and this is the worst flying experience we have EVER had in our lives we started off with a 6 hour delay, then a a couple thirty minute delays... they gave us vouchers but they had came 3 hours AFTER we had arrived at the airport... we had already eaten by then once we got on the plane our pilot told us he clocked out AND that our plane didn't have enough fuel after we had been sitting in your disgusting muggy airplane for 2 and a half hours waiting for a reroute..?! they tried to not compensate us for "weather issues" when we all know it's because they just don't want to give us money... clearly they made us wait so they could keep their money they then stated that we would have to wait TWO hours to get our bags from baggage claims if we wanted our stuff at the hotel. this was after the grueling hours we had spent at this airport by the way... we now have a 2 hour delay because they don't have ONE flight attendant???? by the way, the flight has already been delayed due to not having a crew the ENTIRE day before. there are people here trying to get home to their families. we're just trying to make it to Mobile Alabama man i don't know HOW you mess up this bad, we're STILL waiting at the airport. we have been here for 24 hours, some people have been here for 48... we're stuck hours away from home because we had a layover at virginia and we don't live here. how hard could it POSSIBLY be to move 50 people to alabama??? do not use united... it would have been faster to DRIVE there. read more
