After having a terrifying brush with death in the form of a car crash and the stressful process of having my now destroyed car towed, the people at Enterprise were a breath of fresh air in an otherwise overwhelming day. I'm really bummed out to have to write this review. Enterprise is my favorite business from which to rent a car, but unfortunately, this location really failed to meet the high standards I've received at all other Enterprise locations. I came to this Enterprise Rent-A-Car location, at the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), during a business trip just over three months ago. I purposely waited to write this review in order to allow Enterprise plenty of time to make up for their error, but they never did, after multiple correspondence and inquiries. My experience here deteriorated almost immediately after I arrived at IAD. I flew into IAD as a major thunderstorm was rolling through the area. It was exceedingly cold and windy, so much so that several folks inside IAD delayed walking outside the airport building until they could visibly see their rental car shuttle or hotel shuttle arrive. I did the same, and as I saw the Alamo/Enterprise/National shuttle pull up, I ran out into the thunderstorm, quickly and awkwardly, with all my luggage. Just as I ran up to the rental car shuttle, the driver pulled away. Needless to say, I was wet, freezing cold, and immediately annoyed. I also ended up catching the flu shortly after this, and it took me a few weeks to fully recover. After arriving at this Enterprise Rent-A-Car location, I was quickly helped by a gentleman named Ethan. He was professional and pleasant, so I thought the remainder of my experience with this Enterprise would be fine. He got me all set up with my rental car for the week, which ended up being a Nissan Versa. It was "ok" for a cheap little economy car, but I figured it would at least meet my low expectations for a rental car. I ended up driving this car all over the VA/DC/MD area, for five days, and the car drove fine. But, I kid you not, two big problems popped up just as I was driving back to IAD to catch my flight back home, which was a very inconvenient time due to my desire to be punctual. First, a police officer pulled me over, which sent my stress and anxiety levels up through the roof. After waiting in the car for quite some time, parked, with the policeman's lights on behind me, the police officer eventually walked up alongside my driver's side window and told me that he pulled me over because there were no registration stickers on the license plate. It turns out that Enterprise forgot to place them on. After resolving this with the officer, who was very kind and understanding, I departed once again, headed for the airport. It was only a few minutes later when the second problem occurred. A warning light displayed on the car's dashboard informing me that one of the tires was going flat. Needless to say, I came back to this Enterprise Rent-A-Car location thinking that this would be a 1-star Yelp rating. Shortly after parking the car, a gentleman came out to greet me and check-in the car. His name was Matthew. He asked me "how was your experience with Enterprise?," and I politely told him the story. He was surprised and immediately apologetic, asking if there was anything that he could do to "make this right." He ultimately offered to give me a bonus for two one-day future car rentals, for free. He said that this would take about three weeks to be credited into my account. The credit never came. Over the next several weeks, I had multiple email exchanges with this particular Enterprise Rent-A-Car location, with at least three different managers who all pledged to "make this right." I believe their intent was sincere, but none of them ever followed through. In the end, now over three months later, this credit was never sent to me. If I had received this credit from Enterprise, I had planned to be writing a glorious 5-star review. Unfortunately, and sadly, this review is quite different. Ultimately, this was a miserable experience, and Enterprise repeatedly said they would "make up for it," but they never did. Needless to say, I'll never come back to this particular Enterprise Rent-A-Car location. And, I honestly feel that, for me, this location has tarnished the good Enterprise name. read more

So when my wife went to pick up the car she rented and tried to use her visa debit (non PNC). They would not take it. And would unapologetically give any type of solution. Needless to see, neither my wife or I will use enterprise for any business travel ever again. they have the customer service of a dead rock. how due you just leave someone, who can pay forthe vehicle, stranded. she even called me to pay for it over the phone and the turds wouldnt let her do that. .... bad business. This is my car rental company of choice. The have tasted me better than expected. Upgrades on the regular. Nice cars. On this day, the location lost power. Everything was black. I was at another, different rental company. They were lost. They had about 10 people in the lobby and were doing rentals like the old days. Calling to get credit card approvals, no cars, everything done by paper. I felt like we were back in the 70s. I went over to Enterprise, where I had a 2nd reservation. (My Office duplicate booking error). When I arrived, they asked what class I booked and pointed me towards those cars. They told me to take whatever. I was in a car within 5 mins from my arrival. Yes it took a little bit to get out since there were about 10 cars in front of me but we all had cars. There were about 4 people checking out cars and I was on the road within 20 mins of my arrival. AWESOME SERVICE. They were working just as the other company and overcame all the issues and problems that they faced. Plus I got a transponder with no problem. Yeah... The customer service here is..weird. I say that because another location in Chesapeake, VA is CONSTANTLY out of cars whether I make a reservation or not. A few weeks ago, I managed to rent a vehicle from Enterprise ORF and drop it off with no problem. Admittedly, i didn't make another reservation when coming back to this airport considering this is a busy airport and I figured they would have cars available since there is high-turnover. Apparently, they are "minus 30 cars" and the guy, although slightly nice didnt seem sympathetic at all. I was basically told to "find another rental place" mind you this is not pedestrian friendly. So you're SOL when you have to "find another rental place", and basically have to lug your luggage around and under highway passage ways. To add insult to injury, the employees openly were talking about all the "crazies" they have to deal with at night, shortly after I walked away. So that wasnt nice to hear....idk, i didn't like the apathetic attitude here. read more

WTF?! Avoid Enterprise at this location unless you enjoy getting lost and missing your flight. Neither Google Maps nor Waze takes you to the right place--they send you straight into the short-term parking lot. You'll have to get a refund just to exit. I called Enterprise and got a maze of bots but no humans who could help me get un-lost. The only visible signs are for Hertz and Avis--nothing for Enterprise. Once you're in, you're trapped in a maze of anti-theft gates and dead ends. It took me over 40 minutes to find the actual Enterprise (shoutout to the Avis employee who helped me). If you're relying on GPS like everyone else, good luck. Returning the car is just as confusing. Not worth the stress. Rent elsewhere. Missed my international flight because of Enterprise. This was definitely one of the better airport rent a car experiences in a long time. They are not located in the airport, a bus from the airport takes you here. It was so fast and easy. You walk up, they tell you go pick a car, keys are in it and boom you are out the door. At the exit they scan your reservation ask a few of the standard questions, will you fill up, do you need coverage etc .Easy Peasy! No long counter wait times, no long wait for a car to even be available which has become the norm lately. On returning the car again it was great. We pulled up, greeted by a few workers who were just so friendly. They ask if every thing went well and off you go, to another bus waiting to shuttle you to the airport. There were four in my group and we entered the bus, it was just us, I assumed we had to wait for more people fill the bus, but we did not, he immediately exited after we were seated. I was in need of a rental to take to Nashville via a one-way trip and fly back. I came here to rent since it was close to my job, and they wouldn't charge me to drop it off at another airport. I was helped by Jack, who I think was new but had help from his amazing team. I'm not sure of all of their names, but he wasn't sure of something, but they were able to assist. The manager (I assume) was very knowledgeable and courteous with my rental. She even walked me out to the pickup area and assisted with that as well. I didn't like any of the available selections, so she asked what would I prefer and if I didn't mind waiting. Of course, I didn't have an issue because "good things come to those who wait." I ended up with a nice rental. Overall, it was a great experience, and everyone was professional and helpful with the transaction. I just wish I knew their names to give them recognition. read more

Twice recently we've had Katie work with us to receive our Enterprise r/c at the IAD location. What a gem! She has a terrific smile - and customer service is her jam, for sure! The car was very nice: clean and all the systems worked (which is not always true with other companies). Both the check-in and return processes were quick, and we were soon on our way. I had the misfortune of having to use this Enterprise location because the vehicle I had picked up at another location was having serious electrical problems. I pulled up and noticed lots of vehicles in the lots, including larger SUVs, which is what I had and needed to turn in to exchange. The manager was less than helpful in getting me into another similar vehicle, she said all of the larger SUVs they had were booked already. Sorry if they're booked, but I think that a defective vehicle should take precedence in a situation like this. I really needed the larger SUV because I had 3 more people to tote around, driving about 600 miles around VA. The larger SUV allowed us to have our luggage and for those in the backseat to take Teams meetings and work while we drive. This wasn't possible in the much smaller minivan, but she didn't care to hear any of that. If in the area and needing a rental, I'll use Avis or Budget next time. read more

I could not be happier that I switched to enterprise. It was a refreshing experience. I left one of the local competitors due to lack of customer service and they did not pre-inspect cars. It was nice to be greeted with a smile after a long day of travel. The check-in process was thorough and I was walked out to the area I could select a car. Once I selected a car there was another touch point with a person who checked me out. They have cameras upon exit to make sure it takes pictures of any issues the car might have. I arrive at the Enterprise location and I went straight away to the outside booth as advised since I already checked in but no one was there so I went inside to start the process again (not sure why I checked in if that's not gonna save me and them time?!) Then the lady who checked me in told us we only have one choice and it's outside and then she gave us the papers to exit, so I went with my family including my 4 and 5 years old daughters to the lot but the car was locked went again inside to asked about the key which was inside with Alamo!! Then I went outside opened the car no children seats as requested and paid for! Again inside to ask the lady about my seats. That was really annoying coming from long hours flight with kids and above all that dirty car was handed to me as shown to drive for 18 days!! Not very impressed with the customer service of this location, it's quite rundown and the man helping us was less than friendly. When he pulled our rental up it wasn't what we'd reserved and was very dirty. We asked for the car we reserved and were told this is all we could get tonight. We had to request for our vehicle to be washed and vacuumed. It was past midnight and the waiting seemed unnecessary. Our reservation was for a specific time and it's unfortunate that our vehicle was not ready for us, as they were not busy whatsoever. The car was washed as we requested but came to us soaking wet, inside and out. We appreciate that the interior was wiped down for us, but a little more time and attention would have been nice. As we were waiting we noticed a man from a foreign country receiving the runaround. He was told there was not a full sized vehicle, yet there is a parking lot full of them. And he was told because he made the reservation 10 minutes ago it's his fault that there is no vehicle for him. I couldn't believe the poor service he was receiving. read more

September 2020 - COVID Review: We had to postpone our original wedding plans to next year due to the pandemic, but we still planned to have a small church ceremony on our original date. We kinda lucked out when our limo cancelled on us because we got to save money by getting a large executive SUV to fit us and the wedding party instead! The staff here were so nice! In order to place this experience in its proper context, I would be remiss if I did not explain what precipitated my eventual arrival at Hertz, and the disastrous financial consequences of that fateful encounter, upon my return to the States, following an 18+ month period of living abroad - It began with Enterprise. Once I had booked my flight to the States, I knew I would have to rent a car to get to my hotel from Dulles International Airport. And I would have to do that, using my debit card, the only card I had. Airport locations further had specific rules that only applied there, and not elsewhere. In order to rent, you needed to show that along with your arrival, there was a scheduled departure date, listed on your ticket. These were the conditions for securing a rental. The first call I made to Enterprise, I was not told this. Instead I was told I could not rent a car with a debit card. I had to have a bonafide Credit Card. When I mentioned this to someone I knew in the States, he questioned that, and encouraged me to call Enterprise again. "Under what conditions can I rent a vehicle from an airport location using my debit card?" And sure enough, the agent said that as long as my itinerary showed I had an outbound flight, I could then rent a car, so I booked one. Still uneasy, however, an intuitive red flag shook my confidence, so I was determined to verify once again what the Enterprise agent had told me, so one week before I left Europe, I called Enterprise to confirm the terms, and again I was given a green light. But when I arrived at the facility, the Enterprise Representative was determined not to allow this to happen. He immediately began nitpicking. "I see your departure date here is not until September, and yet you only want a rental for 2 weeks," he said. "That's correct," I said. "I don't need a car for the entire period. I just need transportation to do what I have to do." This, apparently, was problematic for him. "And you want to return the car to BWI (Baltimore International) instead of here, at Dulles," he said. "That's correct," I said. "Look I've made these arrangements ahead of time and asked the questions I had to ask and was assured there would be no problem. And besides, the sign here clearly states that Enterprise will accept a debit card as long as you show you have a departure date. It doesn't state that there are additional conditions." But he would not budge. "The BWI location is more convenient for me," I explained, "and I was assured this would not be a problem." "But how do we know we'll get our money?" Now this was a prescient question. I never imagined there would be a situation where the funds would not be available. In retrospect, I now know this guy lacked the shark instincts I would later experience at Hertz. They knew better. "Because I honor my agreements." I said. That, too, did not satisfy Tamer, the Senior Customer Assistance Rep, at Enterprise. "But you could go and withdraw your money tomorrow!" He added. "I suppose I could. But I have no plan to do so." The final nail in the coffin was the address on my Driver's license. That listed my last known address in the States and did not correspond to the address on file with my bank. THAT had been my European address. But now that that address had changed, days before I left Europe, I updated my banking information to reflect my new address in the States. Logistically, there was not enough time to do that with the MVA, and it was the first thing on my list of things to do, even before securing mobile service, the day following my arrival in the States. This further distressed Tamer. "Ah, how can I rent you a car if the address on your license doesn't correspond to your debit card address? I just can't do that," he said. "But I was living ABROAD. I JUST arrived. I STILL have to go to the MVA and update my information." But this sequence, though logical and sensible, did not register with the Tamer who faced other challenges, and he declined my reservation, further telling me that even though I had secured a reservation, those people who made the reservation didn't actually work for Enterprise, but other car rental agencies, brokers, you might say, and therefore didn't really know the Enterprise rules about renting a car using a debit card. How could I possibly respond to that? Though severely jet lagged and sleep deprived, I mustered whatever strength I had and pointed to the sign. "The sign clearly says I can rent a car using my debit card, as long as I have departure flight. It clearly states that. It lists no additional conditions." But Tamer would not budge. And that's how I landed in the front seat (Remember OJ Simpson? He was the celebrity face for Hertz Corporation's rent-a-car advertising campaign, which, incidentally focused on airport rentals, before sinking into infamy) of a Hertz contract, one of the darkest periods of my financial misfortunes. read more

Upon arriving at Enterprise, we didn't wait and went straight to the counter. Our original reservation was made under my travel partners name, but because of changes in travel plans, we needed to get the rental switched to me. Lamyaa was able to make the change no problem, and after a short conversation about the 3 hour drive ahead of us, she silently upgraded us to a fully loaded CX-5. First, this car was AMAZING. Everything you could want, and the adaptive cruise control on the long drive was a life saver! Second, and more importantly, Lamyaa was warm and gracious through our entire interaction, making everything super easy. For her to provide that level of service was tremendous, but to have paid special attention to the details of our trip, and adjusted the car to accommodate us made all the difference! I was in business in Virginia and had to grab a car from the airport - service was efficient and friendly. More importantly, I had the misfortune of losing my wallet. Apparently it was in the car and I missed it, I looked numerous times. An honest customer turned it in and when I returned all the way to Vancouver BC I got a call the next day from Mark letting me know they'd found it. I had to arrange FedEx shipping to get it back and shout out to Amy Porter who was very patient and helpful and took the time to arrange shipping it back. Wow! Great service! A legion of people waiting to help and THEY went in to the lot to get the car and bring it right up in front of the building for you to load. I generally prefer services like Hertz and Avis have that allow you to go directly to your car. But this is a more personalized approach. My pick-up experience was really memorable. But I do wish they had been a little more organized when I returned the car. It was not apparent what I should do with the car. Maybe because it was early morning, but there was still 8 or 9 other people returning the car so they should have had someone there directing traffic. I noted the mileage, left the keys in the car and I went in the building. In about 2 minutes, a young guy approached me and said he needed something else from the car, but he took care of getting it for me. They left me utterly stranded at Dulles International due to their debit card policy. I called Enterprise customer service prior and was assured I would have no problems. I was then told at Dulles that the national customer service isn't aware of the Dulles franchise policy. What!?! All they would offer was that there was "nothing they could do," and "this is our policy" over and over. Really? How about not leaving a traveler alone and stranded? It would seem one half of Enterprise doesn't know what the other have of Enterprise is doing. Never again. By the way, I hired an Uber SUV for less money than the rental, which would have been a Chevy Colorado pick up, for crying out loud. An awful experience. Never again. read more

After a terrible experience with a car rental company during our last trip, we decided to choose Enterprise this time for piece of mind. It was a world of difference in terms of customer service and overall experience. Yes, it may cost more but for how stressful travel can be, one less thing to worry about is SO worth it. We flew into Dulles on a red eye so it was early in the morning. There wasn't anyone in line so the process was an absolute breeze. The two gentlemen that assisted us were friendly and efficient. The only small hiccup was that the compact car I booked wasn't available so we had to "upgrade" to what was available. Honestly, it wasn't THAT much more but just a bit annoying there was nothing available (isn't that why you reserve in advance? *shrugs*). We ended up with a Nissan and the guy checked for dings and scratches with us. The car was clean and the tires looked good (if you saw my previous review on a competitor's car rental company you will see why this was particularly important!). Returning the car was very easy as well even though it was a holiday weekend and we expected them to be very busy. I even received an email earlier that day to remind me about the time of return. I would definitely choose to rent from Enterprise again! TIPS: If choose to fill your own tank before returning the car, there is a gas station very close by to the rental places. Also, Enterprise is one of the furthest from the airport so while shuttles are provided, plan accordingly. read more
