Came here during a power outage. They were struggling to keep up with the people walking in. They had to do everything like the old days. Call for credit card approval. Paper. No cars available or clean. They were trying to clean cars while people were waiting. I was waiting about 30 mins. I even did an on line check in. Ridiculous. I should have received a huge discount for the inconvenience. I didn't. We have used SIXT in a variety of locations, always with positive results. Airport pickup was fine, and the driver helped with our luggage. When we got to the location (late, because our flight was delayed), the representative, Adda, was friendly, helpful, efficient, and clearly explained the different options. We got a free upgrade to a very nice Volvo, and were in and out in a few minutes. How about being stranded at the return area at 6am- Shuttles are to start at 5:30am and there's nobody available to drive the bus? Well, had it ended there where it should have, it would have been. When I got to my gate, I suddenly realized I had left my glasses in the car. I immediately looked up Sixt's phone number, and it was a 888 number so I knew it was not going to the branch. The clock is ticking so I start heading back while I try and navigate the phone tree. No, I'm not looking to rent a new car. No, I'm not reporting an accident. I'm nearly out of the airport when I finally get a human and tried to explain my situation. I had just left, the glasses were I. The armrest. She tells me there is nothing I can do, and that I would have to go online and file a missing items report. "Could I please just talk to a desk agent? I'm sure the car hasn't even been cleaned yet?" No. I have to follow procedure. I decide to head to the shuttle anyway. From there, again, I start getting great service. The shuttle driver takes off early to get me to the field office. I run in, and the people immediately guess who I am. Before long, I have my items back, and I am back at the airport before the plane boards. All of the local people at Sixt were great, friendly, professional and helpful. After my experience with the phone support, I would have dinged them more, but their local staff saved the day by going the extra mile. Sixt, if you are reading this, you have a great staff at Dulles Airport. I can't imagine I am the only person who has experience frustration in your call center. Before Sixt, I preferred Hertz, as their customer service was bar none. Their service has been drifting in recent years which encouraged me to try Sixt and now I am a convert. I use Sixt whenever it's an option. This experience doesn't change that. Seriously BEWARE! Rented a car in Portugal and problems started immediately. Rental agent using scare tactics to coerce us to upgrade from my reservation. Returned the car and agent is inspecting it like nothing I have ever witnessed. Finally I see agent circle something on the windshield. It is a tiny tiny chip. I am immediately like no no no and he says "this is not your responsibility. Just marking for next customer ". I ask to speak to a manager. He confirms. Not my expense. So I have to make my flight and leave signing the return. 2 weeks later, we receive notice of a charge for windshield repair. I returned a Sixt rental where the attendant pointed out one small cosmetic scratch on the side panel. A few days later, I received a bill for $1,340.53. The damage packet Sixt sent didn't match the return inspection. It included rear bumper damage and repair charges that were not identified as new at drop-off, plus padded fees like a $200 admin fee and "diminution of value" -- all based on a preliminary estimate, not a final repair invoice. I emailed Sixt multiple times asking for clarification and received no response. I ultimately had to file a claim through my credit card's rental insurance, which paid it, but that doesn't make the process acceptable. Without coverage, I would've been stuck paying four figures for a minor cosmetic issue with inconsistent documentation. Renters: take photos and video at pickup and return. I'm deeply disappointed by the outcome of my experience. The car I was given was old for the price of a rental and had a lot wear and tear with over 40 damages all around the vehicle's body that already existed in the previous reports. The charged me $52.76 for damages that were already on the hood of the car. They just want to make money by bluffing customers and lying about damages. Horrible return agents. Renter beware. Sixt has adopted some shady practices lately to make some extra revenue. We use them for a corporate account and suddenly people are being charged for make up damage expenses. Car will clear inspection and then we get hit with a bill for damage. This was never an issue before but is becoming a common practice. We rent hundreds or more cars from them every week and most people are starting to use other vendors. Just be aware that they will try to make up fees after drop off and you will have to use your valuable time to dispute it with a less than helpful customer service rep. I rented a SIXT rental car for two days while in the DC area. The vehicle sat in a residential driveway for almost the entire visit. The day after returning my vehicle I received an email regarding five scratches on both the passenger and driver side and soon after a bill for more then $1500 to repair. Unfortunately I did not take photos of the vehicle before departing the lot, nor did a SIXT employee. While it is certainly possible that the car was scratched during my rental period of two days without my knowledge, it is extremely unlikely - especially on both the passenger and drivers side. As another post recommends - take photos and video before departure. I will also, never rent from SIXT again. read more

This was one of the worst rental experiences I've ever had. The tire on my SUV blew out, and when I went to change it, I discovered the spare tire was completely missing -- an essential item that should've been included. I spent over 40 minutes on hold with roadside assistance, stranded and waiting for help. When a replacement finally arrived, they downgraded me from an SUV to a compact car, which was a major inconvenience and disrupted my plans. To make matters even worse, I was told there was a possibility I'd be charged for the towing fee, despite the fact that the vehicle wasn't equipped properly in the first place. They only get a 1-star rating because 0 isn't available. I rented a car through Expedia (another mistake I will never repeat). SixT's shuttle to their off-airport rental counter is supposed to run until midnight. Because our flight was delayed, we didn't make it to the shuttle spot until 11:40pm... and the shuttle never showed. Other shuttle drivers told us the last SixT shuttle is at 11:30pm, in spite of SixT claims. No one would answer the phone at the SixT rental counter (even though it's supposedly open until 12:30am) and their 800-number told me I needed to contact Expedia (because Expedia could somehow get their shuttle to come pick us up?) You'd think that was bad enough, but trying to get my money back? Impossible. They wouldn't even reply to Expedia's attempts to request a refund, and they wouldn't speak to me directly because I booked through Expedia. Gave me the runaround for three weeks (refusing to speak to Expedia the whole time, even when I offered to arrange a conference call) until I gave up. Never again. read more

The alleged mark is the kind of faint surface scuff that could be buffed out with rubbing compound for under $10, yet Sixt is treating it as major body damage. For context, I've rented exclusively from Hertz for over 20 years and never experienced anything like this. Hertz and other reputable companies conduct transparent inspections and do not charge for small cosmetic scratches. I chose Sixt this time because their rate was lower and while facing a personal move while we are also in a government shutdown and not receiving paychecks, I mistakenly chose what I thought was a more economical option. A decision I now regret completely. The "cheaper" price turned out to come with hidden fees and questionable post-rental charges. Thankfully, my insurance is stepping in to handle the claim. The AmEx team told me they hear frequent complaints from their members about similar issues with Sixt, which says a lot. They said that they use an AI tool to scan for damages and that it is possible that the AI assessment can vary greatly depending on the light and angel of the tool they are using. Hertz doesn't even charge for small scratches or small dents. In short: ·       No inspection or documentation process at pickup or return. ·       Surprise $1,000 damage claim for a superficial scratch. ·       Multiple hidden charges (even for adding a spouse as a second driver). ·       Customer service that feels completely one-sided and unaccountable. I understand Sixt is still building its U.S. presence, but this experience has permanently damaged my trust and I hope by sharing my experience I can shield others from being similarly taken advantage of. I'll be returning to Hertz, where transparency, fairness, and professionalism still mean something. Recommendation: Avoid Sixt unless you want to spend weeks disputing charges for damage you didn't cause. As a platinum member, I had high expectations for the service I would receive from this rental car company, but unfortunately, my recent experience fell far short of those expectations. Upon arriving to pick up my rental, I was provided with the worst car available. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, one of the employees displayed a shocking level of rudeness and nearly hit me with the car while backing up. What's even more disturbing is the potential racial discrimination I encountered during my visit. It's unclear whether it was due to my Muslim name or my race, but the employees at this location treated me in an extremely racist manner. upon arrival they did not have the class of car I reserved. they offered two options: accept a lesser class of car for the same price, or "upgrade" for a fee. I paid the extra to not drive a Toyota. then, upon return, the attendant shows me some microscopic scratches on the trunk and askes "what happened here". I responded "I have no idea, I don't even open the trunk and I showed him I was only carrying a backpack which I had placed on the front seat. so now I'm worried I'm going to get some bs charge. this is probably the third time sixt has tried to pin bogus damage on me. I was given a vehicle at the Washington Dulles (IAD) location that a representative falsely claimed was in "perfect/new" condition, only for them to hit me with a $1400 damage claim days later for a superficial scuff visible only under specific lighting. The car I received was disgusting and clearly not new. It had cigarette burn marks on the center console, interior dirt/bodily fluids I believe, and multiple pre-existing exterior blemishes which I thoroughly documented with time-stamped photos and video before even leaving the lot. My evidence stands in stark contrast to their poorly documented claim photos. Furthermore, I returned the vehicle and personally handed the keys to a Sixt representative for inspection and spoke to her about the annotated issues I had during pick up as well as what I submitted to the QR code about the issues with evidence, even before leaving the lot one of the employees apologized and stated to submit everything through the initial pick up QR code once again and it would be "noted". Nothing was noted, stated, or viewed as damaged at that time. It wasn't until THREE DAYS LATER that I received a claim, supposedly based on a "drive by camera" inspection. This is a common, predatory tactic I have since learned Sixt is notorious for, having faced multiple lawsuits regarding these exact types of fraudulent damage claims. They are trying to scam me. I have provided all my proof and in the pursuit of a legal claim. Save yourself the stress and money. Use another rental company. ZERO STARS. We reserved a 1week rental with SixT through a third party; just under $1,000. We went to pick it up. They asked for our credit card. My wife handed them the card she used for the reservation. They asked if she would be the only driver. No, I would be the driver. Now they want my card. Mine is a debit card. They say they don't take debt cards. Much discussion and no solution. Rental Car and Insurance Fraud Location!! Booked a rental car from Travelocity.com to be picked up at the Sixt Rental Car location at Dulles Airport, VA on 17 November and drop off on 06 December 2024 at the same location and the rental car insurance was also purchased via Travelocity as it was paired with the vehicle i was booking. On the day of pick up at the Sixt Rental Car location, i was advised by two attendants that the Sixt Rental Car location does not/not honor the rental car insurance that I acquired from the Travelocity and I needed to purchase a new insurance from the Sixt Rental Car. They also tried to upgrade my car but demanded additional funds and sell products i did not need. When i declined to purchase more of same insurance from the Sixt Rental Car location as i already purchased one from the Travelocity, the Sixt Rental Car location offered to cancel my booking without any penalties which i agreed. A day later, i was charged $858.44 for the rental car and the insurance that i never got. When i reached out to the Sixt Rental Car, they refused to take my call. When i reached out to a Customer Service Agent with Travelocity, they acknowledged that some Rental Car locations do not accept the rental car insurance the Travelocity sells, but it's was up to the Sixt Rental Car to provide refund, not Travelocity despite the Travelocity was the one sold me the rental car insurance that was not honored by the rental car company they were using to leave their rental cars. I am scammed out of $858.44 by both Travelocity and Sixt Rental Car company and I want my money back. read more

This is my first time renting with Sixth, I received an email about a scratch on the side of the car. I never drive the car alone, I have four witness that there is no incident on the car. We inspected the car throughly during the return, we did not discover any new scratch at all. I should have reviewed the review comments before renting with Sixth. I strongly discourage using the SIXT branch at Dulles. I have been wasting significant time over the past two days attempting to get to the bottom of an unexpected damage claim. I've made no headway as their customer service representatives are unable to help and their damage claims representatives are not available. Other recent reviewers have had the same problem. When returning my vehicle at approximately 7:40pm on a Tuesday, a SIXT associate waved me past the signage indicating where to stop for a return. He had me park in a dimly lit portion of the lot directly against a fence. He indicated "leave the keys in the car" with no other instruction. I waited to talk to a second associate to ensure I'd followed instructions properly. That second person inspected the vehicle. When I approached him for a receipt he asked me to sign on the mobile device. He did NOT indicate he was reporting damage at that time. He provided me a receipt, and I went on my way. The next day, I'm informed via email from claimsmanagement-usa@sixt that "After your recent rental, we discovered a change in vehicle condition that we would like to clarify with you. Below is a short description of what was found: Bumper loading strip middle scratch 5 cm (down to primer)" How ridiculous. The photographs, which are only temporarily available in a web form/response didn't even depict damage aside from normal wear and tear. They clearly have some associates that are giving them a bad reputation - I hope they resolve this soon. My recent rental in Bordeaux FRA was an entirely different experience. When I asked for more information, he became even more uncooperative and dismissive. I felt like he was not taking my concerns seriously and was not interested in helping me.
