I arrived Saturday afternoon and my luggage made it to the hotel Monday evening. Allow 3 hours to check in. Not a pleasant trip. I had 1 hour 45 minutes before my flight. The line moved so slow. Finally, after an hour, the lady at the counter checked me in and said run to your gate. Impossible to run because I still had to go through security and catch the shuttle train. I made it to the gate and I ran. After sitting on the plane for 35 minutes, they made an announcement that they were waiting for a mechanical part to start the engine, it was nothing serious, all very normal, and we would be departing within 15 minutes. After another 25 minutes, we departed. Honestly, all the captain had to say was they were doing pre flight checks and we would be leaving a little behind schedule. His announcement terrified us. Luckily, it was a smooth flight. Arrived sort behind schedule. Once we landed, they made the announcement to allow those with connecting flights to depart off the plane first so we could make the connection. In Brazil, they don't listen. The passengers did what they wanted to do and it was chaos getting off the plane. I had a connection and nobody would let me pass. There was yelling, pushing, along with the anxiety of trying to make the connecting flight. Made the connection. My luggage did not. 3 days later it arrived. What I don't like about Avianca, people did not seem very happy to have their job. Customer service was bare minimal or just satisfactory. I remember when boarding the flight, the stewardess' were so deep in chit chat with themselves, they were not really greeting or welcoming the passengers. Ughhh. They could improve in so many ways.

We were traveling as a group to celebrate our friends' 10-year anniversary. What should have been an exciting beginning to a special trip started with an approximately SIX-HOUR delay, followed by our flight being CANCELLED. What made it worse was the lack of communication. The emails we received told us the flight was delayed and eventually cancelled, but did not explain why. We spent hours waiting, trying to figure out what was happening and how we were going to get to Italy. Then came our return trip on September 12, 2026. Once again, we experienced a significant delay and had to deal with the stress of trying to get new flight arrangements. At the airport, passengers were standing in line waiting for assistance from an ITA agent. Despite having several people already waiting in her line, the agent closed her lane. When the agent returned, she simply announced that her lane was closed and told everyone to move to another line. There was no attempt to keep passengers in the order they had already been waiting. People who had been at the back were suddenly able to move ahead of passengers who had been near the front. It would have taken very little effort to handle that professionally and make sure the people who had already waited the longest kept their place. Instead, it felt like one more example of passengers being treated as an inconvenience when we were already stressed, tired, and trying to figure out how we were going to get home. Because of the changes to our return travel, our group was also separated and unable to sit together. Delays and cancellations can happen. What separates a good airline from a bad experience is how the airline responds when things go wrong. For us, ITA failed badly in that area. The flight disruptions were frustrating enough. The lack of communication, disorganization, difficulty getting assistance, and attitude of some of the staff made the situation considerably worse. Even trying to submit a compensation claim has been frustrating. I have a valid ticket number, yet ITA's online system says it cannot locate the ticket and will not allow me to proceed with the claim. Our anniversary trip began with an ITA cancellation and ended with another major ITA disruption. That is not the experience anyone should have after paying for international airfare. At this point, I am seeking appropriate compensation for both disrupted portions of our trip. More importantly, I hope ITA looks seriously at how passengers are treated when flights are disrupted. People standing in an airport after hours of delays do not need indifference. They need information, organization, and employees willing to help. Based on my experience, I will NOT be booking ITA Airways again.

Disappointing handling of a cancellation--and conflicting explanations afterward…read more My partner and I were scheduled to return from Punta Cana to Washington Dulles on United flight UA1614 on August 27, 2026. The flight was delayed approximately seven times. After spending hours waiting, we finally boarded and believed we were going home. While we were already seated on the aircraft, we received an email from United notifying us that the flight had been canceled. Communication throughout the disruption was extremely poor. We had to deplane, retrieve our luggage, and were transported by United to Sunscape Coco Punta Cana for the night. The accommodations United provided had numerous cleanliness and maintenance issues, which we photographed and documented. I was also already ill and had received medical treatment in Punta Cana, making the situation especially difficult. We were eventually rebooked on UA3042 on August 28 and returned home a day later than scheduled. United UA1614.pdf What has been especially frustrating is United's response afterward. United gave the two passengers traveling together different explanations. In the response to my complaint, United stated that UA1614 was canceled due to technical issues. In its separate response to my partner, United referred to weather delays. That inconsistency only adds to my concerns about the communication surrounding this disruption. I submitted a detailed formal complaint with documentation. United acknowledged my experience but directed me to United Cares, where I was offered only a $50 United travel credit. I understand that delays and cancellations happen and that safety must come first. My complaint is about how United handled everything surrounding the disruption: repeated delays, poor communication, learning about the cancellation by email while sitting on the aircraft, unacceptable overnight accommodations, and then receiving conflicting explanations afterward. After providing United with detailed documentation and giving the company an opportunity to address our concerns privately, I expected a much more substantive response. I gave two stars, because I eventually got home!

However, a few days before my return flights were scheduled I get a email from the airline apologizing for changing my return flight which would now end at Washington Dulles airport instead Newark airport as I booked. I immediately sent a email then tried their social media site but they had many. The airline didn't respond to my email until my day of departure while I was already at the airport. They offered alternative flights to get to Newark but they were in 2 days and the email mentioned no accommodations. I flew the first return flight which was to Addis Ababa which is their home airport. I spoke to one of their customer service representatives and she claimed that she could not help me because I booked through booking.com and they had changed my flights. But also in her explanation she tells me that they had no flights going to Newark at all. All of statements were contradicting and made no sense to me so I eventually I asked for a supervisor. Once the supervisor showed he agreed with me and stated "we have to get you to Newark because that was your original booking" then proceeded to instruct the staff on changing my flights. While waiting I met other people in line with the same issue however, they had excepted the representatives initial statement and never asked for a supervisor. When traveling you want to fly with airlines you can trust. After my experience with Ethiopian airlines I wouldn't feel comfortable traveling with them again because I would not want a repeat experience.

The first class seats literally have everything you could possibly need for pajamas, toiletries, snacks and entertainment. Everyone onboard is exceptional in everything they do, especially ensuring you are satisfied and have everything you require. The entertainment offered on board is quite a variety and they keep up to date on tv shows and movies. They also provide flight information in real time and other entertainment options, including music. They do have headphones available as well. The food is order on demand, so instead of setting your dinner order, breakfast order and times, they will share with you the menu's in advance, place your order when you are ready. The dink menu for first class is phenomenal, the vintage scotch and port are two of my favorites. I love to end the evening with a 1964 port. Take your drink to the bar I order to stretch your legs if you like, whatever you are drinking will follow you if you advise staff, business class does not have the same drink menu. The food is exceptionally well prepared and so is the place setting. You will also be asked to schedule your morning shower, I noticed many people not wanting to shower but I have to say there is nothing better at the end of a long flight and no worries of getting cold feet as the bathroom floors are heated for your comfort. You will have 30 minutes to shower total and 5 minutes of water use so watch the timer and turn off in between lathering and rinsing. Once you are ready for bed just ask to have the bed made up and you will be ready to sleep, not everyone uses the pajamas supplied but I find them very comfortable. The long haul business flight was surprisingly bad. On the plus side, the food was delicious and service was friendly. I enjoyed trying a range of Austrian wines, and they were kind enough to give me a second entree. But the hard product - the seating - was lacking. I slept worse than I'd have slept in economy - the seat was hard and uncomfortable, and the temperature in the cabin was swelteringly high. The short haul Schengen flight from Vienna to Athens was pretty standard, and is often the case with intra-EU flights, the "business class" was just economy seats at the front of the plane with the middle seats blocked - no extra legroom or roomier seating. Again, the food was delicious, I was surprised at the quality (and quantity) of the meal on such a short flight. I'd definitely avoid Austrian on a transcontinenal flight in the future. In fact, my return flight was originalluy on Austrian, but I changed to United.
