My travel experience with United Airlines this weekend was horrific. I was scheduled on a flight to Chicago
then Dublin to leave Greensboro, NC at 10:30am on June 14th. It was
announced early on that it would be delayed 30 minutes, then an hour,
before long 4 hours due to a plane not arriving on time. At the 4 hour
late mark we finally boarded the plane. 15 minutes later we are asked to deboard due to maintance. After everyone gets off the plane and waits about another 45 minutes it is announced that the flight is now cancelled. During this time there were no offers of refreshments or assistance for the passengers.
At this point I left the terminal and went back to the ticket counter to be moved to another flight. I was moved to a
flight going to Newark at 4:30pm then on to Dublin. That flight was
then delayed until 6:00pm. My connection to Dublin was scheduled for 10pm. At 10:10pm on June 14th and had been sitting at the gate, on the plane for over an hour in Greensboro. This is due to not enough fuel being put on the plane for the flight path. After arriving in Newark at 1:30am, I did indeed miss my connecting flight to Dublin. I was informed that I could not be put on any other fights out of the Newark the next day and they would be sending me to Washington, Dullas airport, not ideal. The flight to Dullas was at 6:30am and the flight to Dublin was not until 10:30pm. So another 14 hours+ at the airport.
At this point I will be missing one of the main events that I was travelling to Ireland for. A family reunion that over 100 people travelled in for.
Once I arrived in Dullas, I had a gut feeling that my bag was not on the same flight route I was on, so I proceeded to go to the baggage office to track down my luggage. Sure enough it was still in Newark. I asked that it please be sent to Dullas on the next flight and I would retrieve it so I could change clothes and recheck it for my Dublin flight. That was accomplished. I rechecked the bag at the United counter and it was tagged for Dublin.
At approximately 9:30pm while at the gate it was announced that our 10:30pm Dublin would be delayed due to the airplane not arriving from Orlando on time.
Then informed that the Orlando plane had landed in Charlotte and they were now getting a new plane routed to us, then a gate change. We eventually took off at around midnight.
I arrived in Dublin and headed to baggage claim, sure enough my bag is not on the carousel. I go to the desk and im informed that my bag was sent back to Newark. Unbelievable!
I'm informed that it will be placed on a plane the following day and I will receive it on Saturday the 17th.
Throughout the 2 days at the airport I had to spend an unexpected $200+ on food and beverage, supplies and such. Losing my bag, I had to spend $300+ on clothes to get me by and also a dress/outfit for another function that I was attending on Saturday evening in Dublin.
I lost 2 days of time with my family and spent an unplanned $500+ with all of the delays and lost luggage. I sent in an email to United to give them this feedback.... I was offered a $200 travel voucher. Are you kidding me!!!!
The reason for writing on yelp is that I sent a response to United 2 days ago and have not received a response. Not customer focused at all. read more
