He seemed nice and respectful during it. However, right after, he said he had to turn us down because he's too busy and he just signed up some new clients. If he had let us know earlier that he was too busy to take us, that would have been completely understandable. However, he did it in such unprofessional way where it just wasted my agent's time.

***REVIEW FOR TENANTS***…read more I found Summit Properties Group when I was desperate for a place to live in a specific area of the East Bay. I did not meet the qualifications stated in the property advertising but I made it a point to explain my situation in person. After considering the totality of circumstances and consulting with the property owner I was accepted as a renter. I stayed with Summit for 5 years. I admit I went out of my way to not be a problem tenant. If something broke and I could fix it I would. There where however times when I needed help with appliances or electrical issues. Every time I made a request for service someone would arrive or call to address the issue promptly. I can not recall ever waiting long for a service call to be taken care of. Lastly, the deposit. I lived in a small place with a small child for over five years. I was careful not to destroy the place while we lived there and leave it in good condition when I left. When I left I received my full deposit in the mail about a week after I returned the keys. I think as long as you are realistic with the property you rent you will be satisfied with Summit Properties Group. Remember they are providing a service to the property owner and to the renter, not just the renter. I was satisfied and if I had a choice to move into a Summit Properties Group rental again or another property management company I do not know- I would choose Summit.

The company was also flexible with us extending our lease as we knew eventually we were moving on, but not sure of the date. However, to get more than two stars I'd probably expect: Online or electronic payments for rent. Check-ins from management over time about issues with unit or clear expectations about what kind of assistance was available. Clearer expectations on cleaning charges. The last point left us with a bit of a bad taste as it's always curious how much of your deposit you'll lose and why. We expected a carpet cleaning fee because that's a given, but we were charged $175 for cleaning after leaving the unit in better condition than we we moved into the unit. I understand that the management company hires a 3rd party to do the cleaning and invoices the management company--but I find it hard to believe there was $175 worth of work left in the unit to clean hard water stains from a shower, clean an oven, and some additional 'light cleaning.' And if there was, I know my next business will be contracting with property management companies for cleaning contracts.

It's absurd--they deliberately use a less common version of credit scoring, completely different from what's shown on platforms like Credit Karma or even used by most major credit card companies. I've worked in lending and know how credit scoring works, and their excuse was nothing short of laughable. Avoid these people at all costs--they're just out to exploit you!

I remember reporting a plumbing issue on a weekend and when Walt could not find a plumber, he actually came himself to help take care of the issue. There was another time, when our microwave stopped working and needed to be replaced . When we ran into delivery/installation issues, Walt himself drove over a 100 miles (on a Friday evening) to pick up a microwave from a far away Best Buy (that had the microwave in stock), so that we could have our microwave installed the next day. Overall, he went above and beyond, many times...to make sure that I was taken care of. It was a pleasure working with Walt and I highly recommend Walt and American Property Management for anyone looking to rent a property.
