Once I purchased a vintage wedding dress here for a whopping $8. I wanted to beads off the dress, Im pretty sure they were chex crystal, i.e. quite expensive. I gave the dress to my aunt and she made a skirt out of it. Not a bad deal. Sometimes it smells weird and some of the pricing is definitely off. During the big holidays everything is 50% off. This was my secret shopping spot during my college days. Back in the day, their vintage clothing section always had something strange and weird -just perfect for me. All in quality condition still too! Unfortunately, as Bob Dylan says, times are-a-changing. The huge vintage clothing section they used to have, is now downsized to a tiny rack. None of the vintage clothing hanging in that tiny section is at all appealing. Completely shoddy looking items. Disappointing. I agree with other reviewers, many of the items are completely over-priced. Wire/metal desk and file organizers are between $1.99 -$3.99! What? Should be .50 cents! It's probably a better idea to drop by Target during clearance sales to find brand new items for less than what Unique Thrift Store charges. This location has recently re-vamped their interior. Nothing too fancy or anything, they just decided to expand the layout--making checking-out easier and making the whole store a bit cleaner-feeling. Every thrift store is good at something; they have their strong points and their weak points. This thrift store is a bit of a mixed bag for me--they're never consistently strong in any area. In fact, I think I've found less here than in many other Uniques across the Twin Cities. They recently added a dressing room--which is good and bad. I had gotten completely used to slipping things on over my clothing in front of the mirrors, and now I feel weird still doing that (because the limit on dressing room items is 3 per person per turn--then get back in line and the line is always long). Here's the thing about this particular thrift store, though: They price their shoes high. Really ridiculously high. Oh, what's this? A pair of scuffed Merona pumps with someone's gel inserts still inside? $24.99! What a steal! I'm not sure why this particular store does this and the rest seem to be perfectly reasonable in this area--but it's how it is. Know the perks; know the quirks. read more

This place is gigantic, and they have everything that you could possibly want in a thrift store. You need to spare some of your time when you want to go here so that you can dig, dig and dig to get decent items. I actually have never had much luck finding decent top-brand items here, but I always find myself a couple of pairs of cute earing whenever I go. One of my close friends, who is a queen of thrift-shop has told me though that used clothings here can be a bit of a pricier side considering it is a thrift-shop, so I dont normally spend a lot of time digging for clothings here. Oh and be aware of the sales day on any holidays because it's going to be super crowded. I think it was a President's day sale when they announced that everything in store was going to be 50% off. My friend told me to go check it out so I did, but boy oh boy did I make a wrong decision. I was there a little after 10 am, and the place was already packed! Okay ima be honest I used to go to Unique the one in Burnsville and I hated it just because of the smell and because and I didn't get the name I was just a kid okay don't judge! so couple days ago my boyfriend wanted to thrift and I love to thrift ( that's why we get along so well lol) and he wanted to go to Unique but this one in Minneapolis ( and because we just ate at Fat Nads Eggs close by) so I gave it a try We had a bag of clothes in the car to donate just never got the chance so we dropped it off in the front and walked right in and im like woooo this place is huge!! I immediately found a pair of Jeans from American eagle $5.99 looks brand new a cardigan from J.J Hill $6.99 and heels from Calvin Klein $14.99 that day they had 20% all items of the store so I was going nuts! my boyfriend found a Northface shorts and 501 Levis for under $10 in good conditions again on top of 20% off I would deff come again to this unique store read more

Oh my god, I absolutely love this place. It's a bit of a drive for me, but so worth it. The selection is amazing! I can find whatever I am needing here. Art supplies, bedding, clothes, I even found a bag of doll heads that I thought was so random and wonderful, I got it for my roommate. She laughed so much and absolutely loved it. I love to donate to this store. Unlike my experience at Goodwill where they made you rummage through every bag to make sure you're only donating things they want, Unique takes EVERYTHING. I open the trunk and the assistant is right there with a cart to help me unload. Plus, every time you donate, (even a single bag of clothes) you get a coupon for 20% off your next purchase. I have mixed reviews about the shopping experience. As a caveat, I should mention that I'm not a regular and I don't shop for clothes. I live near by so I frequent as a 'treasure hunter'. I limit my shopping to the furniture and home goods sections. On a very rare occasion I find furniture that I like. It's usually in desperate need of refinishing but that's fine by me. But I almost always leave with some sort of tchotchke from the home decor section. I find vases, baskets, sculptures, etc. While I agree with other reviews that the prices are inconsistent, I won't ding them for that. I know when I'm getting a deal so I don't worry about it. Plus, with a 20% off coupon? Duh. My biggest annoyance is that they don't let you buy a single place setting anymore. Sets of 2/4/8 only. It's all part of the game, I guess. Very rude customer service from a lady at the register. Not sure if she had a problem with minorities but there should be no reason I should feel uncomfortable when shopping at a store in the first place. She was very disrespectful and was belittling my mother every moment she had the chance to. When working in customer service she should know how to be profesional but seems like this employee needs to be trained accordingly... not sure how she's working in a place where interactions with people are required. I am conflicted on the star rating..while I love this place, I am also annoyed at the prices a lot of the time. It's close to my work, so I do admit to spending many lunch periods rummaging around in stuff I probably do not need, yet cannot live without. I try to make sure to only go on Tuesdays, which is customer appreciation day, so 25% off. I also tend to hit up holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc, where everything is 50% off. The prices are great on those days! But beware, sale days are always packed. 50% off days can leave you waiting to pay for an hour! There are some great finds if you like vintage or retro stuff, but if you are looking for name brand clothes, most of the time they are just as expensive as getting them at the mall, especially if they still have original tags on them. There was a time I would have given this store 4 or 5 stars, but some of the prices are really outragous. I shopped it today and 2 out of the first 3 tops I pulled were priced equal or HIGHER than I would expect to pay for them at a department store ($9.95 for a blank t-shirt, & $24 for a ladies blouse). NO BUENO! The merch prices have gone up too (ex.;$9.95 for a small set of candals, $9.95 for a set of place mats, $5.95 for a nicked frame, etc) enough to directly compare with regular shops and often dissapoint me. I still come in semi-regularly, since I'm a chronic treasure hunter, and nobody can ever know what may be in the stock. They also have a free membership program, which alerts members by e-mail of random members only half price days (in addition to their seasonal/holiday half-off days), which I really can't resist. It almost get 4 stars, once I factor that in. If you like this kind of store, there's also a (smaller) ARC thrift store a little bit South on Winnetka that's worth stopping at, too. read more

This Unique thrift store is definitely the most unique out all of the stores in Minneapolis---mostly due to the hot dog stand located at the front entrance. I have been to all the other unique thrift stores over the past 5 years, always snagging good finds. But this new hope location always outshines the rest. Their vintage collection is always the best and I always find great brand name finds for 5$. Just the other day I found 80 dollar steve madden gladiator sandals I wanted 4 years ago, but obvi was too cheap to purchase. Well I snagged them for 10 dollars. Maybe its because its located so close to the west suburbs but always good finds. Basketball jerseys for both boys and little girls that would go for 100$ online are a usual gem. Beyond clothes their furnishings are great! My very favorite coffee table I've had for years now I got for 2 dollars there. Lastly this place is better than Goodwill, its selection is MASSIVE so you have to be in the mood. This place is really big for a thrift store. I go here to get work clothes and LPs sometimes. Some of the stuff here is overpriced, most is not. I did learn the last time I went that any of their nicer bicycles aren't put out front in the racks, they are stored inside up by the paintings/mirrors/etc. above the other merchandise. Some of the clothing is donated off clearance by Target, Macy's , etc. so you can get brand new merchandise with tags attached also, but you have to know what the cost is in comparison because it's sometimes the same. I have come across some really cool candle holders and other interiors merchandise a fraction what it costs at Target. Just pretend you are a contestant on Price is Right and I guarantee you will find something here for a bargain. read more

I use to shop there all the time. I went away for college and came back to pricing is out of this world. I found a small purse for $35. This is not a thrift store. Nothing in there is worth buying because it's not a bargain. It's used and is going for the same price as new. Found a plain white t-shirt for $10???? The prices never used to be like this. Never going there again. Shoes that weren't even wearable were going for $10. The shoes hade dirt all over them and looked smashed and creased. I purchased a microwave for $30 dollars assuming it would work, and upon actually getting to use it it was very defective, and they refused to offer absolutely any sort of compensation- I get to throw my purchase straight into the trash. I've been shopping there since they opened years ago. Though a little rocky at the beginning, over the years they have improved tremendously. Now the organization and store layout makes for easy shopping for what you seek without having to look through each and every shelf or rack. Pricing is ok for the most part. It is a bit disconcerting when the item still has the original tag, and they have over priced it by 10-20%. They do have a hard and fast rule that no price tag - no sale PERIOD. If you'd like to purchase something that is not priced, you should ask the manager if the pricing person is there and it is usually resolved within 10-20 minutes. Best not to get your heart set on it just incase the pricing person is not there. I do have one concern that I'd like to share with those who donate there. Please double check all purses/wallets/pouches/pockets for personal information (medical ID cards, luggage tags with names & numbers, mail) and valuables. Also please remove the dirty tissues/candies/business cards. The store clearly no longer does a good job of checking these items before putting them out for sale. The items listed above I have found in items in this store within the past month (id info & valuables turned in to mgr.). An Identity Thief's dream so CYA! read more

If I could, I would rate this place 0 stars. I love shopping here but I had a TERRIBLE experience with the employees the last time I was there. They were very rude. Everything was great all up until I was checking out. I have no problem waiting in line to checkout, however this specific employee, (A woman probably in her 50's or 60's) completely tainted my experience. after swiping my card and then being told to swipe again as "it didn't go through," my card declined. I had my mother's card with me so I ended up using hers instead. The employee that was helping me was very rude. She was impatient and reluctant to help with anything. I stood in line for probably about 5 minutes before she finally called me over to her station. She did not offer nor give me a bag for all of my items, and was overall very coarse. In the parking lot, I checked my bank account only to find I had been charged TWICE and that the transaction went through on both my card AND my mothers card. When I confronted the employees about the issue, the woman who scanned my items was muttering under her breath and was making comments to (who I am guessing was) her manager. I understand what it is like to deal with annoying and rude customers, But it is VERY impolite and unprofessional to be doing that in front of them. When I went back in to fix the issue of being charged twice, both the employee and the manager told me that it was MY fault and there was nothing they can do about it. This was the worst experience I have ever had at ANY store. The employee that I worked with was very unprofessional. I was very patient with her yet she was very ignorant and immature. Not only did they charge me twice, but then they proceeded to blame me for their mistake and told me there was absolutely nothing they could do about it. I was very disappointed with my experience. The staff (that I worked with) were awful and the customer service was terrible. Similarly, the clothes are way overpriced for what they should actually be worth. Definetely Not worth it. read more

Well, my boyfriend and I went a couple weeks back and we were shocked at the big raise in their prices.We also heard the same comments from other people in the store while we were there. We probably won`t shop there any more. It used to be so nice being able to pick up good used toys for the grandkids, or knick knacks for myself. It`s too bad that they raised their prices so much. I used to love shopping here but in the last year it seems like the prices have doubled, especially for shoes. I went to try and find some soccer shoes for my son. I saw a nice pair but my jaw dropped when I looked at the price. They wanted 39.99! Really!? I was so disgusted I left. I found him a brand new pair at Target for 19.99. That was probably the last straw. There is a new Goodwill by our house that prices used things the way they should be priced.
