Been dying to try this place and finally made it today. So disappointed It was brunch menu so very limited options, the few things we were excited to try were either sold out (truffle fries, hash) or not available on the brunch menu (lobster grilled cheese). I opted for the duck grilled cheese; it was heavy, greasy, and difficult to eat. The tots were bland and flavorless. Service was very slow, waited about a half hour for our food to come out. Also very loud and hard to have a conversation without yelling. Overall very expensive. Three of us, no drinks, came to $85 including tip. Most likely won't return. read more

I feel awful leaving this during Covid BUT..... First we were seated in one of the three tables to the right of the door and we froze every single time someone opened the door which was every ten minutes so do NOT let them seat you here we ate with our coats on it was awful and I'm from Minnesota and can handle cold temps. We were given two wrong Drink orders we only complained about one. Out of five meals one came ten minutes later than everyone else's. My prime rib which I wanted med rare was 100% brown as hell and fully cooked. We were celebrating my daughters 21st birthday which I added to the reservation ... which was never acknowledged ‍ never been here before so maybe it was a fluke but I can well spend my $300 elsewhere. Ps the Calamari and cheese curd apps were good. I won't be back. read more

I was really excited to try this restaurant. It's open floor plan, lighting and large TVs looked great as we walked in. Our server was ok, not great. I asked for recommendations Ethernet a couple of dishes and she could help "ive never had either, so I can't help". We ordered a giant pretzel and squash soup to start. The beer I ordered only came in 8 oz, which I wish I knew before ordering (server was no help here either). When the pretzel came, it was cold on the inside. Our server apologized and said she would rush another for us. 15 minutes later, another was brought (it was burnt). My soup never came. My sandwich was small (chicken sandwich) but was very tasty. My son ordered the bolognese, and that was good too. Overall, the meals were good, but the overall experience was not. It just doesn't seem like they have their act together yet. I may go back again, but no time soon. read more

My wife and I checked out the Union Straw while in town for the Garth Brooks concert at Gillette. Our waiter was Scottie and as it turned out he grew up in our home town in CT. Small world. He recommended the candied pork belly as an appetizer. This was the highlight of our meal. It was delicious and we devoured. I decided on the mussels & chorizo as my meal. The order size was large enough for my meal. The mussels were fresh and flavorful. The broth was listed as having cilantro, wine wine and garlic and truthfully it was rather bland. I normally use the bread that comes with mussels to lap up all the broth and that was not the case with this dish, not it was bad just no real taste. My wife had the Poached Pear & Prosciutto flat bread. She indicated it was on the sweet side, but that was expected with poached pears. I had a Bloody Mary and the mix was good, but the amount of vodka was a little lite for purchasing a premium vodka. The restaurant was very nice inside and it has a large outdoor space for dinning. read more

Great, attentive service, trendy and fun atmosphere, and one of the best bolognese dishes I've ever had (even with spaghetti squash instead of pasta)! Our friend has celiac and they were more than accommodating to the gluten-free needs and even ordered a gf brownie for his birthday dessert. read more

We had reservations before a nearby concert. Upon arriving, we were told that our table was booked again in two hours so we needed to be out by then. I totally understand the concept, but it felt a bit off putting and certainly not a warm welcome for our first visit. I was excited about the menu options and regrettably didn't try the bacon. Pretzel bites were hard and dry. Wings were fine, mussels were great. Loved the broth. Dinner portions were surprisingly small. Overall, I wasn't impressed with our first visit but may try again down the road. read more

Food is fantastic ! New twists on old favorites. And our server, Katie, was just great. We were seated in the room in the back and only negative was that it was way too noisy. read more

Union Straw has a lot of potential but one certainly gets the impression that the restaurant is being run by folks without any experience in the restaurant business. First the pluses: (1) the food is very good to excellent. The lobster dip is exceptional and we loved the shrimp stew and the bolognese; (2) they did a very good job on the buildout - the bar area is particularly appealing, and the entire restaurant has a cool feel to it (although the long dining room has a somewhat cafeteria look to it they way it is not broken up and the tables are arranged in rows) The negatives: (1) the staff seems to be mostly local high school kids. That's ok - this is not intended to be a fine dining establishment - but at least invest in the staff with some training. Our waitress was new to the job and for most of the menu items had to tell us she was not familiar with the dishes and had to check to answer our questions. Come on - feed your staff as part of training and let them be advocates and salespeople for the menu items! The lack of training was apparent throughout the meal - and it wasn't because we had a "bad"'waitress. This is on the ownership not the wait person. (2). This one is big - want your leftovers bagged up? Sure - they hand you some take out containers (no bag) and expect you to do it yourself. I thought perhaps this was a lack of training but my son experienced the same thing on his subsequent visit and the manager and lots of other wait people walked by and witnessed this and no one offered to help. I should add we were leaving at about 10pm with a mostly empty dining room, so it can't be attributed to a busy time. This is inexcusable (3). The kitchen seems incapable of sending out the food for the table at the same time. My son had the same experience - one person gets their entree and the other waits, and waits and waits. Now this is better than food sitting in the kitchen and getting cold but the kitchen needs to figure out how to stagger orders so they come out together. (4). Overall supervision of the front of house and dining room - there was someone who looked like he was a supervisor or manager but he did not interact with guests, check if everything was ok, etc. At the menu prices they are charging someone who is an adult needs to be at the front of the house and in the dining room making sure everyone is happy and everything is going smoothly. All of this is fixable but needs very focused attention from someone with the right experience. Without some changes it's hard for me to justify returning versus heading to say Davios where the food and service are at a different level while the price point is not materially different. read more

Very cool looking place, the bar and restaurant are welcoming and look fun. Bar menu is long and different but not crazy. Wine and mixed drinks were certainly NOT generous, especially for the price. The appetizers were good, wings, etc. but again, very modest in size. Overall, the food was good-I wouldn't say great, they were accommodating to allergies and the service was wonderful. The experience of the restaurant was lacking only with its actual food. Small, forgettable portions with weak or light and pours of beverages made my first visit somewhat meh. read more

I did a DoorDash order and it was delivered promptly within 30 mins of ordering I got 4 street tacos 2 orders of wings and the chips. The tacos at first glance looks very appetizing but once I picked up one the soft shell tortilla began to crack and fall apart the chicken was cold and dry,the tortilla itself was either stale or very under cooked this remained consistent for the reaming 3 as well I tried picking them up to which they fell apart and I touched the meat and it was cold so I threw out the other 3 as for the wings again overcooked and very little meat then the "fresh" house made chips they were cold and stale not impressed with the food at all maybe it's an odd day? read more

What a great find! I saw this place on Phantom Gourmet and it looked so good I had to try it. We had the spinach artichoke dip to start. It was so creamy and luscious, and flavorful. I also had the onion soup which was fantastic. My entree was the grown up grilled cheese which was phenomenal. A great mix of cheeses, thick cut bacon and tomatoes; it was to die for. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will absolutely be back. Please try this place, you won't regret it. read more

Good service but disappointing food. We had the venison stew and pulled pork. Both were underwhelming. The stew was under seasoned and just not that interesting. The pulled pork lacked smoke flavor and was a little on the dry side. The best things on both plates were the the spicy slaw and the mustard based sauce. read more

brandon was the best! he got us everything we wanted and was sooo nice!!! five stars over here!! whoop whoop!

After 7 check-ins, I feel really comfortable giving Union Straw 5 stars. I rarely ever consistently experience such consistently excellent food and service that it was so worth the extra "due diligence" (a thin excuse to come back again and again) to confirm. Breakfast, Bruch, Lunch, Dinner - we've tried them all. Special Orders, dietary restrictions, lots of menu questions - my family covers the full gamut of what you can toss to a restaurant - all handled with professionalism and grace! And you cannot walk through the place (going in or out) and not be in awe of the smells, looks and atmosphere. Truly great. read more

Awesome place, great food and atmosphere. Went here with my fiancé on a date night couldn't have asked for a better experience!

I have been here twice now. The first time was fantastic. Great food terrific service. We sat at the bar and had a great time. I came here for brunch with some of my friends and had much different experience. The service was super slow. My friend ordered the berry waffles and was told the berries were in the batter. They brought her pancakes instead and sent it back. The waffles that came were plain with berries on top. We had ordered a Cinnamon roll and muffin to tide us over until our food came. We didn't get them until after the food was delivered. Our coffee was never refilled, and my French toast was burnt on the bottom. I didn't bother complaining, because we never saw our server again. Really cool atmosphere though. Will give it another shot once they get it together since my first visit was so good. read more

Wonderful meal at Union Straw last night. Really enjoyed the Italian pop up menu. Both meals were absolutely fantastic with great portion sizes. The lemon drop martini was a great balance of citrus and sweetness- without being too much of either. Great COVID protocols as well. read more

Total disaster! Do not go here. 1 hour 15 minutes to be served dinner. Terrible service plus attitude... total amateur hour.

Food was amazing, our server Jonathan was more than gracious and on top of it. Great atmosphere, can't say enough good things about this place for our first time there. Would recommend to anyone read more

Great service - thank you, Julia! And amazing chicken and waffles! I had a pear and goat cheese salad that was perfectly balanced, and Korean wings that were beautifully bronzed and sauced. Would love to go back when we are down here on the South Shore! read more

Came here the morning after my wedding with my husband and two groomsmen. We walked in the min they opened. The food was delicious !! We had poutine, pork belly sandwich and chicken and waffles. We waited about 45 mins for our food. Some table whom arrived after yes were served first. My husband received his food first (poutine) although very delicious the food was already cold. The rest of the table had to wait another 5-10 mins for our dishes to slowly arrive. The service was pretty good. But food definitely gets high marks in my book. I would come back again read more

This place was amazing. They cooked the fries perfectly. It was nice and crispy and not burnt. The waiter was also super nice and came out with the food very fast. When you get chicken though, make sure to ask for it well done, it'll be a little pink. read more

Charming modern and clean - we had a fantastic dinner - the cheese curds are mouth watering - vege stir fry with Buffalo chicken was delicious - Mac and cheese was perfect for our little one - salmon and pork great as well. Ate there last night Food was delicious! My son said it was best burger he's ever had but what made it a really good night was Brandon very exceptional service. Friendly professional and will absolutely recommend restaurant to family and friends as well as Brandon!!! read more

Service was excellent and loved the ambience, even if very noisy. I ordered the Quiche of the Day, which was asparagus. What a disappointment! First of all, Quiche is meant to be thin; this quiche was huge - at least 4" tall. Secondly, I had to look hard to find the tiny bits of asparagus. The egg part was fluffy but bland. And the accompanying fruit cup was just bits of watermelon. read more

I ordered the lobster roll for curbside pickup, and I am extremely disappointed in what I got. This looks nothing like the picture on Union Straw's Instagram page, and definitely not worth $27. I want to support this local business during this time, but I'm not sure I can justify going back when this is what they consider to be a $27 lobster roll. Do better please. read more

First visit. So good and very filling! Great spot for Sunday brunch. Service was quick and attentive.

Great service and great environment. The place is very clean. Drinks taste great. Good place to come sit with your family ot go to the bar. The restaurant was full and parking was limited. I had to park down the street. No problem though. This was a super slow street no traffic. read more

The steak and eggs was cooked perfectly and the service was great. read more

Huge fan of this place.. the food is amazing, legit. The wait staff was so nice . So good

Went there for dinner tonight. This is the first weekend they've been open and they were serving a limited menu. I loved the rustic, yet hip ambiance of the place. Cocktails were interesting and I enjoyed my pear martini. The house-made potato chips were warm and delicious, served with a ranch type dip. I had the sweet and savory flatbread, which featured ricotta, fig jam, and crispy proscuitto. The flavors were spot on. My fiance had the New Orleans shrimp stew, which he enjoyed, but thought was just a bit under seasoned. We split a piece of coconut rum cake for dessert, which was to die for. Service was great, and attentive without being overbearing. I've heard that brunch is fantastic. I plan on being a regular here, and can't wait to try other things on the menu. read more

We love Union Straw! Great atmosphere, drinks and food. The truffle tots and couch potato flatbread are favorites.
