The food tastes great! Extremely friendly staff. Love the decorations inside. Definitely will come back

Been looking forward to visiting Union Straw. First, the very good: Decor. Exposed beams and whitewash with globe chandeliers is inviting and homestead warm Drinks: large beer selection. Nice craft cocktails. Not skimpy on spirits French onion soup Obviously house made. Rich. Savory. Well presented. Flatbread: nice product. Good fig spread. Cheese choice is good The mediocre: Burger: thin overcooked uninspired patty. Would not get next time. Buffalo fingers: not special. Run of the mill sauce. No celery or carrots. Kind of meh. Hog wings: this is a processed product. The shanks themselves are unremarkable. The House sauce gets high mark honorable mention. Award winning 16oz rib eye. $32 entree the "sides" are 6 baby potatoes and wilted arugula with a few dabs of duck confit. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY! The rub had so much cumin that it was difficult to tolerate. The natural umami flavor was lost in the aggressive seasoning. I asked them to hold the ubiquitous balsamic reduction ( they put this in nearly everything) The bad: The fries. Awful. Limp. Greasy. If you like fries, get a salad. Overall I'd definitely go back for drinks and flatbread. The space is pretty and feels fancy. 172.00 ( with 20% tip) for 3 ppl. read more

Sorry to say we had an unsatisfactory group meal this week. I had been once before and it was fine! Dinner was meh at best. We had 6 folks. Appetizers: wings ok, chicken nachos really bad, soggy and bland. Meatballs were good. Dinners: Salmon was blah. Pork was dry/under seasoned. Cocktails and fries were the only hit. Waitress was nice. Was a birthday dinner. Spoke to hostess to order the dessert. Had asked for two candles (twins). Waiter brought out a $13 cookie without a single candle. All in all, a great disappointment. Over $300 bill for a really subpar meal. read more

I had the rib eye. The presentation was outstanding. I think the duck confit was unnecessary, it made the dish super fatty. Other than the balsamic reduction, the whole dish needs flavor. Overall, this restaurant is excellent in ambiance and service. read more

Wow, I loved this place. It is very nice inside and I was a bit surprised to find out it used to be a VFW. The layout matches that a bit but it was light and airy. Our waitress was very good. She gave me recommendations which I always appreciate and she was honest if she hadn't tried something yet. After passing the dish on the way in, I got chicken and waffles. It was spectacular. The chicken was crispy and had a bit of heat. The waffles were a bit crispy as well with maybe sugar crystals? and wonderful syrup. I stuffed myself because I didn't think waffles would reheat well at home. My friend got the taco board which had pork that night. It seemed the perfect size. She ate everything on the plate and ordered dessert as well. I can't recall what it was but she loved it. Some sort of cake with bourbon maybe. I will admit my Negroni Spritz was a bit strong so the details were fuzzy. I liked it so much I bought a gift certificate for a birthday gift and cannot wait for that person to try it. The menu had multiple options I would like to try and being only about 15 minutes from my town, this will become one of our places. Thank you! read more

An instant favorite on our first visit there last fall. A kicking drink menu, solid beer list and inventive menu make it one of the best joints to go south of Boston. There's a vibrant atmosphere in a well designed space There's much to rave about - including the warm, happy staff - but rarely do places nail everything perfectly. Here's an honest assessment of 2 visits. October Jumbo Chicken Wings ($12)- House Hot Sauce & Blue Cheese. Ordered extra-crispy. Could be the most perfect wings ever had. Sauce had a killer balance of sweet/salt/savory. Texture was spot on - crunchy skin & succulent inside. Duck Grilled cheese ($17) - Duck Confit, Cranberry Bread, Bourbon Apple Butter, Caramelized onions, Blue Cheese Mustard, Fontina cheese. She requested the mustard on the side and quickly declared that it was a mistake. It really punched up the flavor so she put it back in it's rightful place inside the sandwich. Elsie: Didn't dig the cranberry walnut bread. Loved the blue cheese reunited with the duck. Me: One of the best grilled cheeses around and huge reason to keep going back. Kama Jama Chicken Sandwich ($15) - Fried (There's a grilled option for weirdos who fear fried chicken). Cheddar Cheese, Spicy Slaw, Chipolte Ranch Dressing. My 16 year old son didn't put it down until it was gone. His commentary was mainly happy grunts thumbs up gestures. The guy is a fried chicken connoisseur, so we can judge a sandwich's merits by the speed at which it disappears down his gullet. This one gets an A rating. Flatbread ($14) - Fig Jam, Baby Arugula, Prosciutto. Scattered shreds of unlisted cheese, possibly fontina. Crisp base, tender top. Prosciutto balanced by fig spread and tangy sweet of balsamic glaze. Candied Pork Belly ($12)- Secret Dry Rub, Pineapple Habanero Glaze. Had immense potential: Loved the flavor but seemed to lack salt. So meaty & lean you'd think it came from a hog with 6-Pack abs. Arrived on the medium-cooked side. Could really benefit from a fattier strip and a low, long cook before a final, high heat crisping to order 2nd Visit, Dec 2019 Jumbo Chicken Wings ($12) - Forgot to order extra crisp as before. Sauce was still banging but the skin was just ok. Note: always ask for well done wings anywhere you go. Shrimp Po' Boy ($15) - Cajun-Dusted Popcorn Shrimp, Cajun Remoulade, Spicy Pickled Vegetables. It looked really, really nice! My son ingested it before anyone could sample. Refer to Kama Jama Chicken Sandwich review above... The Ragin' Cajun ($21) -Shrimp, Andouille, Mussels, Okra, Roasted Corn. Definitely needed more cayenne kick to be Ragin' but more importantly it needed salt.* But there was still something impressive - all the components were perfectly cooked. Pretty common for restaurants to stew everything together like somebody's ancient bayou granny, yielding shriveled, tough seafood and andouille exhausted of its tenderizing fat. Here the shrimp were still plump and snappy, the sausage juicy with it's flavor shining through and the vegetables just soft enough. Pump up the seasoning and this dish goes from OK to awesome. *Most items at Union Straw are well seasoned though there are some misses. Chicken & Waffles ($18) Honey Hot Sauce, Honey Butter, Bourbon Apple Butter & Bourbon Aged Maple Syrup. Here's an interesting one. The sauces at Union Straw generally kick ass, the Honey Hot Sauce, Honey Butter, Bourbon Apple Butter and Bourbon Aged Maple Syrup are no exceptions. And the waffles are dynamite - yeasty, hearty and a pearl sugar crunch like the best ski resort waffle slope side treats. The problem is the fantastic fried chicken is the only savory foil in the dish - covered in the honey hot sauce it a struggles in the all out sugar assault of everything else. It needs is a succulent gravy or some umami packed sauce to bring the sweetness to equilibrium. With mainly a couple of seasoning hiccups, this is still one of the best restaurants in the region. I keep ordering Duck Grilled Cheese take-out to savor alone in my car... read more

Let's start out with what I liked: the waffles were good and nicely marinated with maple sauce or syrup of some sort. The sauce to go with the chicken fingers was also good, but of insufficient amount. The ribs and side of cornbread were ok, but nothing special (me and the wife split our entrees). The slaw was quite good, crispy, tasty and not oversauced. My wife, who is a slaw connoisseur, liked it too. The baked beans tasted suspiciously like they were from a can. Whatever recipe was used, it tasted uncannily like B&M Baked Beans. The biggest issue with this place was the price. $18 for the Chicken & Waffles and $19 for the Ribs - around 30-40% overpriced. read more

Really great ambience. Nice big bar and the seating area is spacious. Restrooms are clean and well kept. Kitchen/cooking area is open for all to see and very clean. We had a wonderful waiter named Parker B. This guy was one of the best waiters I've had at any restaurant. Awesome job, he was friendly, funny and checked up on us to make sure we were taken care of. The drinks were awesome. I had a black raspberry cobbler and my wife had a guava rita, but they ran out of guava, so it was substituted with passion fruit and wow it was really great! The food... My wife had the Grilled lamb and hers was cooked perfect and seasoned with salt. It came with asparagus which half were burnt, so she only ate half. I got the pulled chicken and the chicken was great, but they saturated it with a mustard sauce and when I say saturated, I mean it was more mustard than chicken. Even if I scraped the mustard sauce off, it was still overwhelming and I couldn't continue. It came with cole slaw and baked beans, but I didn't want baked beans, so I opted for another cole slaw, which was a broccoli cole slaw supposedly. I took one bite of both and they were the most vinegary cole slaws I've ever had. I got the extra cole slaw, because I absolutely love slaw. These weren't cole slaw, I can't explain it. Couple those with the mustard sauce on the chicken and I was done. I was still hungry because I didn't eat much, so I asked for a side of Mac and cheese... It literally tasted like just pasta. The cheese sauce had absolutely no taste. If you put just a bowl of cooked pasta next to it, you couldn't tell the difference. The waiter was awesome and he said they gave me extra mac n cheese in the bowl, but one bite was enough. I really wanted to love the place, because the staff were the best, the place itself was very nice, but I paid for a meal I couldn't eat. read more

So, I debated a few days on this review & I want to say it's really a 3.75. We've been a few time and have always had delicious food and great service. Never has been an issue. We were in on Sunday night (4/3) with reservations at 6:45. Every thing was fantastic to start with, our waitress was super attentive and nice and we enjoyed our app (fried cheese curds YUM) and meals. THEN my husband ordered dessert. And the meal took a nose dive. While it didn't ruin our meal, it left us incredibly baffled & we just had to laugh. He ordered the s'mores dip and it just was not up to what we thought was Union Straw quality. Prepackaged graham crackers he had to open with a bowl of chocolate sauce with a few marshmallows (3?) on top (which had hardened when it reached us). And for 10.00 we would have passed. While it won't make us stay away from Union Straw, we will definitely pass on dessert. read more

I have been here twice since moving into town. The place is very nice and has a great cozy vibe. The first time I came here the service was really good but the food was nothing to remember. I decide to give this place a second try, but it was worst than the first. The waitress was not vey nice and the dumplings were horrible, they tasted old and smelled. The Buffalo tenders were gross they tasted like they were right out a bag. If you want drinks and a cozy vibe, come here. If your hungry, don't. read more

This place is a must-try if you live in or visit the suburbs south of Boston. We started with the Purple Rain and Spicy Paloma, both of which were solid drinks. We got the candied pork belly which I was surprised to see was the size of an entrée. The pork belly was juicy and tender and crispy on the outside with the sweetness of the candied glaze on the outside. We got the Elote Loco which is a street corn starter, and I was disappointed by the quality of the corn, which was of a quality that I would never serve to guests at my home. The toppings made it edible, but it would be great if they could get some fresh, juicy corn in there from a local farmer's market perhaps. The duck grilled cheese is served on a type of cranberry bread. I was surprised by how well everything went together. The sandwich was a solid 4- it would be so much better on a brioche with an aïoli. This s'mores desert was enormous, and obviously tasty because it's s'mores! It would be great to split among 4 to 6 people. The s'mores martini for dessert was also great. Overall I was really happy with the portion sizes and value for the price-- in Boston this would have been a much more expensive meal. Definitely get the pork belly-- that was my fave. read more

I went here with my three kids for Mother's Day brunch. We had reservations for noon and were seated right away. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. My daughter is vegan and had seen a stir-fry dish on their dinner menu that was not offered during brunch, but when I asked if she might be able to get it anyway, both she and the manager went out of their way to make sure she got it. That in itself was worth five stars for me, but the food was fantastic. I ordered scrambled egg whites, bacon, and ham, which also came with breakfast potatoes. I ate almost everything. My daughter and son ordered strawberry shortcake waffles and devoured them, and my vegan daughter had to bring home her stir-fry leftovers because the portion was so large. We also ordered a couple of tropical colada mocktails which were yummy. Even though the restaurant was nearly full and we had to wait a little longer for the stir-fry since they hadn't planned on making something from the dinner menu, we were still out of there in an hour and fifteen minutes. I'll definitely be back, with or without my kids! read more

I'll start off saying that it has that rustic type ambiance that is all the rave right now. It's cute inside. I chose this place because I searched for restaurants with chicken wings. I ordered the chicken wings (bone-in Honey Buffalo) and parmesan truffle tots. My friend ordered the shrimp tacos and candied pork belly appetizer. The wings were small and not my favorite I've ever had... not bad, and the sauce was decent, but probably not a dish I'd go out of my way to get again. The parmesan truffle tots were $8, so fairly on par with price, and overall an okay take on the dish. My friends shrimp tacos looked delicious, with extra large shrimp in the tacos, as well as a side of some sort of rice. The candied pork belly app was probably my favorite item, as it had the sweet and salty taste; cooked phenomenal and a nice mix of fat/non fat meat. The strawberry cider was a win of a drink, and my friend enjoyed the mule. Great, friendly service. Not a bad spot to grab some food. The ribeye looked really yum, but I just wasn't in the mood for steak. Maybe next time! read more

Came in on a Friday around 8pm, two of us were greeted right away and were informed there would be a short wait. One very nice thing is they have a spacious waiting area that does not encroach on any tables. Within ten minutes, we were seated and welcomed by our waitress. We ordered cocktails and then perused the menu. We started with the dry rub wings and then I got the lobster BLT and stuck with house-made chips for a side (chips, fries, tots, Parmesan truffle fries, or Parmesan truffle tots are your options, some being a $3 up charge). The wings came out after about ten minutes or so and had what at first smelt like a Cajun dry rub on them. After the first bite, the seasoning didn't agree with me - the dry rub was way too salty for my liking. After a couple wings, I couldn't eat anymore. They were cooked perfectly though, the meat was very moist. When our dinners arrived, the sandwich looked huge. At first glance, the lobster salad has a reasonable thickness to it's layer, but it didn't go from side to side and back to front on the sandwich halves, it was mainly just in the center of the sandwich. However, there were some good chunks of lobster meat in the sandwich. The bacon was plentiful and the tomatoes and lettuce were crisp. The bread was drenched a little too much in butter for my liking - I had to frequently wipe my hands with the napkin because my skin was so greasy from holding the bread. The place itself has a modern southern kitchen feel, very clean and well kept. It is a wide open space, so the noise level got high, but never to the point where we couldn't hear our own conversation. Waitstaff was very attentive and polite. read more

Really it's a 3.5 wings were really good and I recommend the Honey Buffalo. Ask for extra crispy. I ordered BBQ and I would say it's slightly above average it was good but not based on the hype they make it out to be. Also for a table for 1 on an average Saturday night (no Pats game in town) I suggest making a reservation ahead of time read more

As fans of dinner here we decided to try out their brunch. What a disappointment. We ordered the eggs and crispy hash of the day which was duck confit. We asked for the eggs over easy and they came well done, and the hash turned out to be the equivalent of frozen hash browns with a few small pieces of duck tossed in. No seasoning, nothing. We also what was called a bretzel which was supposed to be french toast using pretzel bread. What came was 2 small dry pieces of not cooked all the way through semi-French toast slapped on a plate with no syrup. (Basically the equivalence of a side of toast). When we asked for syrup we were given some kind of imitation syrup. A restaurant trying to pass themselves off as high quality should have real syrup. Overall this "brunch" was acceptable if you were going to your local dive diner but not what you'd expect from Union Straw. read more

This was our first time stopping into Union Station. We had high hopes. Drinks were fine, service was very slow but there was plenty of help, just not focused on the tables and customers. Food was mediocre at best. The biggest issue was "food handling". Cooks in the kitchen not wearing gloves, not wearing hats and handling food that was ready to go out to the tables with their bare hands. This included the manager who went in the kitchen, never washed his hands, never put on a hat and was handling food like a couple of the others without gloves. And I am talking about food ready to go out to the tables after it was cooked. Also, watched them fill bottles with a funnel with water for the tables, then stored the full water bottles uncovered on a windowsill. Managers should lead by example. Diners beware. read more

My family and I visited Union Straw last night (Sunday) for the first time after seeing great reviews on Facebook. From the outside, the building does not look like much, but immediately upon entering the restaurant we were all pleasantly surprised by the lovely decor, nice seating area, large bar, and wonderful smell of food. We were a little surprised when we were walked past a large amount of open tables in the main dining room to the smaller, colder back dining room which only had one other party. The temperature was remedied though by our waitress (who was great) closing an exterior door and quickly getting us cocktails! Two favorites were the eggnog martini and the strawberry lemonade. When it came to food, there were so many unique options to choose from. We started with the pork dumplings and the house made chips, which were the perfect bites. For entrees I ordered the pumpkin risotto with grilled chicken which was beyond words. It was served in an actual pumpkin and was the perfect taste of fall. The rest of my family loved their entrees as well, including the Mac and cheese that we split as a table, the pork chop, the chicken and waffles, and the pulled chicken. For 5 drinks, 6 entrees, and 3 appetizers, I found the price very reasonable. My husband and I will definitely be back to dine at the bar, and bring family when they are in town! read more

Food was good, not great, but let me tell you what it cost. The Korean pork belly bowl was good, once you got past the fact that it was cold. The truffle fries were over truffled, and it was a $3 up charge. The peak organic shandy beer was $8/pint and the bissell brother was $13 (2 beers almost $30?!?!)!!!! A pint... never in my life. We got 4 beers, kids noodles, Korean pork belly bowl, a cheeseburger and tots and it's was $100. Not sure we will be back. read more

This place sucks. The parking is a joke, the nasty couches and stinky pillows in the waiting area will have you sneezing and wheezing in no time but you'll be spending plenty of time on them so suck it up. When you finally do get a table you'll be so thirsty but you'll be lucky if a waiter comes over in 20 minutes or so to give you 4 ounces of piss warm tap water in a dinky cup. 2 hours later you'll get some over priced shit they pass off as a meal but don't worry you'll have plenty to bring home to your dog when you get done waiting another hour for the check. Oh and if you like really annoying people this place is loaded with them! NEVER going here EVER AGAIN!!! ...........P.S. they deleted this review from google! read more

I have been here twice since the patio opened- once for brunch and again today for dinner. Food and adult beverages were DELICIOUS and servers were awesome both times! My family members can be very particular/picky eaters and they loved the food as well!Live music this evening was an added bonus for a nice little family outing. This is definitely going to be in the regular rotation (for both date nights and family dinners!) Update 8/28- went for another dinner on the patio last night (this time a double date) and it was phenomenal. Chicken and waffles were delicious and the scallop appetizer special was SO GOOD! I HAD to update my review to add a comment about our server- Braden(?Sorry if I spelled that wrong) He said he was new and had only been there a few days - he was AWESOME- attentive, friendly, entertaining, great with menu recommendations. Definitely made our night out a fun one. We will absolutely be going back regularly! read more

Incredible, warm atmosphere serving up delicious American classics! I went here while home for the holidays, and once I stepped in for brunch, I knew the place was going to be a hit. It was full of people, the staff was so friendly (especially the red head hostess who squeezed us in) and the food was just perfect. 3rd dinner...I've also done brunch. Two major problems: #1) I wanted "house chips" to go with my beer... I was unhappy with the first time I came because they were cold & hard... So, I ordered them lightly cooked. Nope! Not an option... they're all cooked ahead of time... Sorry, that's crap... Jimmy's Pub and Restaurant makes them fresh for me every time I request. #2) I admit that I didn't look at the price of the short ribs, but, I almost keeled over when I got the bill for one beer & the short ribs = $43+.....They're out of their mind for that price! It tasted like two small slabs of pot roast laid on mashed potato with a lousy side of squash. Jeez Louise! When their short rib taste as good as they are C Salt Wine Bar & Grille, then they can charge crazy money... Now, it's worth maximum of $20. Beer list still sucks... 1/8 draft beers from MA. read more

We went in on a Thursday night (3/25/21) for my sisters birthday dinner. The service gets a one star and so does the food. Our first time here; we went for a late lunch on a Saturday, it was not crowded. The positives - The decor is nice, friendly hostess, we got seated right away, the food was flavorful. The service was horrible - our waitress was crass and not professional. As I mentioned, it was not crowded. We ordered drinks that took 15 minutes to arrive - again not crowded. She delivered the drinks to the table and dashed off. Returned 15 minutes later. We placed our food order, she dashes away. She returns 5 minutes later and says she forgot to tell us about the specials, we said we were all set. She goes on to state the specials and asks if we want to change our food orders!! We said no. Another staff member brought the food and we asked for refills. Another staff member brought our refills. We are actively eating our meals, food still covered our plates. The waitress comes over and hands my husband the bill!! Doesn't ask us how our meal is, could she get us anything - just hands my husband the bill - while we are still eating!! We were furious. Finished our meals, paid the bill and left. Sorry, this waitress was so unprofessional on many levels, we won't be returning. read more

Plenty of TVs and there is also an outdoor patio. Service was outstanding - waitress was so upbeat and helpful (haven't really seen that much since covid - she definitely stood out). Menu has a variety of items, we had to make choices. Chicken sandwich and tenders were great. Risotto was tasty. Flatbread was a little flat (wouldn't order again). Good selection of beer/locals.
