I'm back at the Union Social Eatery again, for a family dinner. The location is very accessible by transit, but if you are driving, then you may need to scout out a parking spot in the sidestreets. It has a cosy, comfortably casual ambience. On a Sunday evening, it was quiet and intimate. Our server, whose name I did not learn, was excellent: kind and willing to make recommendations. Union Social has an excellent menu, with lots of diversity to cater to all palates, but not so many items as to be overwhelming for either staff or customers. We started off with cocktails, and my son's Citrus Mule -served according to tradition, in a copper mug - was so tasty. I enjoyed my Smoky Apple Old Fashion so much. It is worth coming here for a cocktail alone. Now, on to the mains (we skipped the appetizers, but the shrimp tacos did look tempting). I explained to our server that I was torn between the Smokehouse Beef Burger (which I regretted not ordering on a previous visit) and the Spaghetti Positano, a seafood pasta finished with lemon-herb breadcrumbs. She enthusiastically and energetically recommended the pasta (I love it when they actually give a recommendation, as opposed to, "Well, it depends what you want"). I was not disappointed! The seafood spaghetti was terrific! Surprisingly, the breadcrumbs more than compensated for a sprinkling of parmesan. I savoured the leftovers the next day, and I'm still thinking about it. The other diners, who ordered Cobb Salad, the Chicken Sandwich Special, and the Tuna Bow, were similarly satisfied. Apparently, the Steak Frites and the Fish and Chips were outstanding, as was my Pasta Positano (especially for garlic lovers!). A few other diners ordered dessert: they each had creme brulee, smoking hot from being freshly torched. The surface featured that perfectly glossy, lightly burned sugar, which always reminds me of a caramel-colored skating rink. The dessert was, according to my daughter, who is a connoisseur of creme brulee, was perfectly done. To finish off, my son (don't worry, he's an adult) had an espresso martini. I had a sip, and I can totally vouch for it being so divine! We had a very satisfying meal, and I'd only wish that I knew my server's name so that I could acknowledge how excellent she was. I'll be back. I keep planning for the burger, but right now, I could sure go for another helping of Spaghetti Positano! read more

Went here for the first time with some friends and the atmosphere was totally a vibe. We were all instantly comfortable. The service was definitely the highlight. The staff were super friendly and built a really good rapport with everyone. Honestly, I'd go back just for how great the team was. Now for the drinks and food: I ordered an espresso martini. This was my first one ever, and not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed (I've had way better ones since). For the food, the poutine was fire and the tacos were really good, too. Everyone at the table enjoyed their dishes, but let's be real... it wasn't the best meal ever. The food was definitely mid, but still solid. Union Social Eatery located at St. Clair and Yonge is a casual eatery serving pub style food (think burgers, hand helds, salads and some cooked dishes). They also have a selection of cheap beers, wine ,and cocktails. Perfect place for a night out with friends to catch up. The space is big and there are also TVs equipped so that you can catch your favourite sports teams. I went to this location of Union Social Eatery on a Wed night with some friends. The price for a bottle of wine was actually quite reasonable so I did get a bottle to share with one friend. My other friend opted to get her own bottle. For the food, we ordered the social club (think like a club sandwich except with grilled chicken, avocado, tomato, lettuce..all on a brioche bun). Service wise, our waitress was attentive and friendly. She came by several times during our long stay there to ask if we needed anything else. This place is great! I loved the garlic tacos, Social Punch, and Chicken Bowties. Two of my friends and I went on a Friday night. It wasn't full (about 8pm) but there were people there and more seemed to arrive as the night went on. The service was fast, and they helped us look at dairy-free options for my friend. The lighting is low, but not too low where you couldn't read the menu. This place is affordable and the portion sizes are good. I took some of the pasta to-go and can't wait to enjoy the leftovers! The only complaint (which sounds weird) was the tap water they served! My friends (who live in the area) agreed that the water tasted funky, otherwise everything was great. We came here for lunch during Summerlicious and had a really good experience. We ate on the patio which was nice, but it's right beside the sidewalk so it's not the best. For appetizers we got the House Braised Sirloin Firecrackers, which were very tasty but strangely didn't include any braised sirloin. We also got the Candy House Salad, which was good but way too sweet, though I suppose at least the name was accurate for this one. My partner was very excited to get the Almond Crusted Chicken Tenders and I'd say they lived up to the hype. I was quite surprised by how many chicken tenders we got and they were delicious. The fries were great too. On the other hand, my BBQ Chicken Rice Bowl was a little bland and would have benefited from a garlic or chipotle sauce. Dessert was really good, we got Mars Bar Brownie and Coconut Key Lime Pie and they were both delicious. The portions were big enough we would have been happy to just share one if we weren't doing a Summerlicious menu. Overall we'd be happy to come back here again, the prices are quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. I'm sure we'll return next time we're craving chicken tenders. read more

It was easy to get a walk-in spot here for dinner on a Sunday. They had all the different sports games playing on TVs mounted at the middle of the restaurant above the bar. We got the shrimp tacos to start, and for the main I got the blackened chicken bow ties and my companion got the chicken club with fries. The shrimp tacos were good - I quite liked the sauce that accompanied it. I do wish that the shrimp had a bit more color - it would have looked more appetizing if it had a bit of char. The chicken club was a fairly small size, and the fries were strangely grey and the pieces were a little too small. The chicken bow tie was delicious and had lots of vegetables but still pretty heavy. You can see that there's actually a pool of liquid and oil at the bottom of the dish. Overall the food was kind of mediocre for the price. It wasn't terrible overall but definitely not a place I'll be itching to go back to. read more

Union Social is a very standard upscale sports bar and restaurant at Yonge and St. Clair. A good place to watch the game and get something to eat. They offer an insanely good Wednesday night special where both steak frites and domestic pitchers are just $20. It's almost impossible to find deals like this anymore in Toronto. We were in the area on a recent Saturday afternoon and I felt a hankering for a poutine. I felt pretty confident that a place like Union Social Eatery would have a poutine on the menu, so we went inside and snagged a sweet booth near the back. And indeed, I did order the Pulled Pork Poutine ("Aged cheddar, jalapeno-Monterey Jack, bread and butter pickles, crispy sweet onions and hand-crafted gravy"). It arrived shortly after and it's a decent poutine. There were a few obvious problems, though. The main issue here was that the dish didn't arrive to the table hot. It had clearly been sitting around for a while, and so the whole thing was just slightly hotter than room temperature. It's not ideal. I should also note that the concoction was very, very sweet. The pulled pork had clearly been prepared with a sugar-forward barbecue sauce, while the naturally-sweet bread and butter pickles only exacerbate this feeling. It almost felt like a dessert poutine. But it's a poutine, so I enjoyed it. The plentiful cheese certainly didn't hurt, nor did the perfectly-prepared fries. I just don't know that I'd ever order it again. read more

After a long day of meeting with Antiquities dealers it was suggested that we attend Union Social Eatery for a light dinner for our long journey home. Upon entering I found it comfortable and welcoming. We were attended to by an absolutely amazing waitress. Unfortunately a software issue delayed our meals and my meal was so good when it arrived but missing the rice. Our beautiful Italian waitress contacted her manager and He was also incredibly professional. He took my meal and drink off the bill. I can't say enough about how great the staff are in this Eatery. Truly a gem. Impeccable service,Excellent professional staff, an Amazing chef in the kitchen (Thank you for the Bang Bang Chicken) Plus the rest of the staff were friendly and interactive. Decided to go for a solo end of week dinner. Union Social is close by and always has a decent atmosphere. Service is sometimes a bit slow, but the staff are friendly which helps make up for it. I often get the Killer Chicken Sandwich - tonight was a Cajun KCS. Grilled Cajun chicken, guacamole, fried onions, lettuce, and chipotle mayo with a mountain of fries. I've had better KCS offerings, but it was still tasty and enjoyable. I like Union Social and will be back. read more

I had lunch today with colleagues at Union Social Eatery. I ordered Chicken Vindaloo. It was okay. The sauce had a nice bite. The chicken was cold, though, which surprised me. I wouldn't get it again. Brent had a salad with rare seared bigeye ahi tuna. He said it was good and he'd get it again. Antonia got Steam Whistle Fish & Chips. It looked good and there were a ton of fries. I may get that if I go back. Bri got the Ace High Club sandwich. She said it was good and she also got a ton of fries. I may get that if I go back. So we went back again after a long gap. I had the recommended Philly steak wrap, I also had the parmesan fries as a side. I personally found the fries kind of tasteless, I think maybe they forgot to put salt or something on them, so I felt they were more tasteless and greasy than I would have liked. The sandwich was ok though, quite tasty actually. The candy salad we had was also very good and was well liked. So it was good on the whole with nice service and good food, just wasn't happy with my fries. read more

After passing by this place for a while I thought it was finally time to check it out. To say I was underwhelmed is an understatement. the decor is nice but don't expect to have a conversation here because it is loud. I couldn't hear what the people at my table were saying and it felt like i was screaming. There are 4-5 tvs here so of course it is going to be loud but I still like to be able to hear what the person is saying who is seated next to me. While none of us were really hungry we decided to ordered a few apps - the trio of hummus dip; the smashed avocado dip and the vegetarian flatbread. The hummus came with tortilla chips and pita bread and actually was pretty good. The different types of hummus were really flavourful. This was the best of the apps in my opinion from what we ordered. The flatbread - not my thing. The bread was hard, it was drizzled with balsamic vinegar (well maybe doused was a better word) and just fell flat (no pun intended..lol). The smashed avocado dip wasn't too bad - but definitely a share dish as this would be too big for one person to eat. The service was fine - our server was really nice but I don't think I would come back here. If the apps weren't great I am not that curious to find out how the mains would taste. Um...just no... Being gluten sensitive and from NYC, i found this place to have a great gluten sensitive menu, however, when it came to the actual food, it was not great. I got the Roasted Vegetable Flatbread, and there were hardly any toppings on it. I think a dollar pizza in NYC looks waaaay more appealing than this flatbread. The crust was dry and hard to chew. I also got the truffle fries which oddly, did not taste like truffle at all but tasted more like thyme. I came here with my crew on Sunday evening for their summerlicious. Their summerlicious dinner menu price is very competitive, $28 for three courses is very good. However, the food I had was pretty bad. I ordered the Braised Short Rib Firecrackers to start, 8oz Grilled Bavette Steak as my main and Individual No Bake Vanilla Oreo Cheesecake. To be fair, the Braised Short Rib Firecrackers was pretty good as I loved the flavour combinations and it had great presentation as it looked it was stuffed into a chicken wing. Things went downhill from there. The Grilled Bavette Steak came fairly well-done (the server didn't even ask how we like our steak, so i assume they are all well done?). Despite it was well-done, it was not rough at all, however, the steak was VERY SALTY, I had to keep drinking water just to wash the saltiness away. Dessert was even worse, I don't even know if I was eating cheesecake or just a pile of cream, the cream was so thick and it didn't taste good. Both steak and desserts I didn't end up finishing. I have to say $28 is good, but I would expect food to be a little better, yes I know it's cheaper than your average summerlicious restaurants for dinner, but I would rather pay the extra $10 or even $20 to eat something better. read more

I come here a lot for lunch. It looks like a Jack Astor's or Milestones-type place, but is a cut above. The food is very solid, in particular the chicken fingers (I swear I'm not 5 years old), fish and chips, burgers and the rotating chicken sandwiches. On the negative side, service is hit or miss (mostly fine, but we've had the odd awful server); it can be slow when it's busy; and despite having a couple dozen taps or so, the beer list is less than inspiring. read more

This was my second time at Union Social Eatery on St. Clair. This visit was just OK. We were pleasantly greeted by a staff member upon entry and our server was friendly and attentive. The food however is, meh. Not horrible but nothing I would be quick to return for. If found the balsamic on the appetizer flatbread to be far too sweet (but that may be just my person taste). The calamari was cooked well but were very, very small. They came with two standard dipping sauces (Thai chili, and a dill one). My spinach salad was good. Not too much dressing. I did add a BBQ chicken breast. I anticipated it to be freshly cooked and warm but it was refrigerator cold and heavily coated in BBQ sauce. (Not sure it was actually barbecued). I would have preferred a plain portion of chicken as the BBQ sauce wasn't my favourite combined with the vinaigrette. I had a mojito to drink. The menu says "muddled to oder." Let me tell you, this was nothing more than a prepared tinted green sugary "mojito mix" and some mint leaves thrown in. There was no muddling and this was not an authentic mojito. I did kind of expect a prepared beverage but gave them the benefit of the doubt based on the menu description. With that said, it seemed my other dining companions enjoyed their meals. The food is nothing special but there are enough menu options to satisfy many tastes and this would be a decent place for snacks and after-work drinks. This is a cute place to go for food and drinks. The interior is nice and the food was very good. A group of 5 of us went and shared a bunch of apps which were all very good. We had the calamari, roasted vegetable flatbread, smashed avocado dip, Parmesan fries and the Korean bbq tacos. The most delicious was definitely the tacos and I highly recommend them. The only thing that this place had that brought the rating down is that the service was quite slow and our server definitely didn't check in with us enough. We pretty much accepted we would not get water refills. But that aside I would go back for the food and the vibe. read more

Came here last night (Saturday @530pm) for the first time and had a very enjoyable meal experience. Everyone from the hostess to the waiters were completely friendly and not overly nice or annoying. Everything is supposed to be made in-house and the quality is noticeable. Ordered the Nachos, buffalo chicken tacos and truffle fries: Nachos - always always a staple for me on pubfare, and although everything tasted amazing, (shoutout to the spicy jalapeno!) it always saddens me when each layer is not layered properly with every ingredient. Most of the chips on the bottom do not have toppings, but because of how fresh everything else tasted, I can let it slide. Tacos - just a great combination of flavors. Nothing is overpowering and I DESTROYED these too quick. really really good and nice sizes too. truffle fries - oven cooked and not too greasy, perfect combo for something saucy like my tacos and you get a good portion! The staff also gave me a complimentary molten brownie cake with ice cream because it was my first time at Union social, and it was just melt in your mouth goodness! Only docking the one star for the Nacho layering haha but definitely will be back for social gatherings! read more

Yonge/St. Clair has many options for restaurants, etc. I have been to Union Social Eatery on 3 separate occasions. My first 2 visits were decent and the food was good. This third visit was okay. I tried the almond-crusted chicken tenders with a side Caesar salad. The chicken had potential but needs to be marinated and the almond coating should be crispier. The Caesar salad was decent, it had the right amount of dressing. I had a Diet Coke/Pepsi to drink but it was flat. I didn't want to kick up any kind of fuss but I thought I would include these points in my review as constructive criticism. Service is usually good. Despite my seemingly minor issues, I will likely return given this restaurant's proximity to work, not to mention the 3 or 4 large screens which would make it an ideal venue to watch sports. read more

3.5 I'd say! Had dinner here tonight and enjoyed my meal! The restaurant is really cool inside, looks like it once was a garage converted restaurant with an industrial-meets-urban look to it. I'd consider the food to be pub food with some elevated items. Price point is decent, a bit high for a regular weekday meal i'd say, however. I tried their feature fish sandwich which appears to change daily. Today was a grilled Arctic char with a soy or sesame glaze, topped with some coleslaw in a soft burger bun. I enjoyed the sandwich, the flavour was good and the mountain of fries they give you are great, too much for one person though. I wonder if anyone ever finishes those fries! I also shared the calamari and that was decent as well. I enjoyed the Thai chili sauce that came with it. I also tried the chicken strips which were a bit more upscale with the almond breading. These were not bad, however not outstanding in my opinion. I felt as thought every dish was maybe missing or lacking something, nothing was extraordinary to me, unfortunately. I would maybe like to try the Penang curry bowl next time, I saw a few people with that and it looked great. The service was decent, a bit slow at times which was a bit strange for a Tuesday evening and it wasn't even that busy. Our food took quite a while to come but we weren't in a rush so it was ok. We had upgraded our fries to the truffle fries and that was missing once we got our meal, we let a server know and this was fixed immediately which was good. The restaurant is a nice big space. Lots of tables and on a nice day, the 'garage' doors were open so a nice breeze was coming in. The restaurant is warmly decorated with lots of dark wood furnishings and retro light fixtures.
