First let me say that service was great. Really nice (and cute) waiter. In addition, portions are huge. I never complain about that. We both ordered their burger, which looked amazing but tasted average. The fries and the onion ring on the burger were cold. Looks like they pre-fry everything and pull it out as needed. Not crispy, which was disappointing. We also ordered cheese curds as an appetizer, which were awesome. Hot and crispy. Huge portion! This is actually one of the worst bars I've been to in DC. I'm actually a fan of a nice sports bar when the occasion arises but this place is just a dump. Its dirty the chairs are cheap and uncomfortable and worst of all the staff is rude. The bar staff is alright but the bouncer who works on Saturday nights is shockingly rude. A friend and I used Union Pub as a meet-up point after not seeing each other in months. I heard that the location was great for meeting near the Hill, the burgers were decent and beer was tasty. I also heard the service was lack-luster. I ordered the Bacon Stuffed Burger (bacon, topped with crimini mushrooms, and sauteed onions) for $10.98. My burger was sad, over cooked (I order medium rare), hardly any toppings and small. The fries were ok, but nothing special. The beers were not much better: the selection was small, and over priced. When I asked my waiter for his opinion on trying a new beer (or anytime I asked him a question) he became flustered, begin answering the question and would start to walk off. When asking about the day's special he answered me after he turned around the walk off, I am still not sure if he said crab cakes or not. I moved here about 2 years ago with my wife . We live out near Baltimore and are huge Bears fans. After trying to find a nice sports bar to watch the Bears near Baltimore for about the first 3 games of the 2007 season ,my wife and i searched on here and found Union Pub. When we decided to drive down there the next week we were pleasently suprised by the amount of fans and Chicago natives that attend this bar . Ever since then we have went back religously every week (when we can),and the drive doesnt bother us a bit. The food can be pricey,but the staff is nice the drinks are cold and people are very cool. Nothing like high fiving a guy on a play that you have never met before ! Overall , if you are a Chicago Bears fan come to this place and you will never want to leave. read more

The Union Pub is fannnnntastic. The staff is helpful, attentive and super fun. Wacky Wednesdays are not to be missed, and Sunday afternoons are great for Bears fans. When it's nice out, the patio is the best place in DC to spot/harass senators as they walk home after votes (and more than a few stop by as well). read more

My softball team went to Union Pub after a game. The other team was headed there, so we decided to join them and what a great decision that was! The location is great and its one of the only places with outdoor seating close to the Capitol. But that's about it. The food is mediocre at best and the service is almost comically bad. I have waited 30 minutes for a beer and over an hour for food on multiple occasions. This place could be great if they would just improve the service even a little bit. read more

Service is slow, even when there's only a few tables taken up and the place is almost empty. At least twice I was served a beer in a glass that was dirty (lipstick hadn't been cleaned from around the rim of the glass). The mosquitoes on the porch are ridiculous; don't sit out there. The beer selection is good, but pricey. Saturday nights during football season the place turns into FSU-central, and the beer prices go even higher. Overall, I'm not impressed. We sat for over am hour, and had to ask every time for water or something. First time at Union Pub ater many had raved about it. I found the service lacking, very little attention was paid to our table. The menu is very short and lacking in variety. My Ceasar Salad was romanie lettuce thrown on the plate with a 5 strips of some "grilled chicken" for $10. A bit outrageous for pub Ceasar Salad. Also the Yuengling was $6 a pint. Use to go here all the time but not so much any more. The place is dirty and has no homey feel like it use to. All the sports memorabelia decoration is gone and replaced by TV's, there are trash bags behind jerseys in whats suppose to be a decorative box and the food is officially the worst it's ever been. I don't recognize any staff any more. You have to beg the toilet paper dispenser for toilet paper. The bathroom is not ever clean anymore. Sad to so what has happened to my usual fav bar. I have even heard the very loyal Nebraska fans complain about the service and attitude these days. Heard they were under new management...i'd re think that one! read more

This was my first trip to Union Pub and I will going back. I went for brunch and had the crabcake eggs benedict-yum! If I could, I would dive into a vat of the home fries! Had a blast here last Sunday. I loved all the different rooms and plenty of screens to watch all the different NFL games. Throughout my time there, my fiancé and I shared some chicken wings and nachos. The wings were tasty, but nothing special. The nachos were delicious though. My friend and I bought a lunch groupon for the 201 Bar and accidentally went when they were closed. Union Bar and 201 Bar are apparently owned by the same person (people). Luckily one of the owners saw us and offered to honor our groupon at Union Bar. He was such a nice guy and we could tell he had excellent customer service. The food at Union Bar was great! I was very excited to be around other Bears fans for the game on Monday night. MY boyfriend and I sat at the back bar with two female bartenders. It was quite obvious that they looked rather miserable that they were working that night. Other than saying Hi when we sat down and taking our order ( which nearly every time we wanted to order something we had to get their attention) there was no guest interaction. No one even asked if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything else at the moment. Typical things that happen when you sit at a bar. I could understand if they were 2-3 deep and slammed but this was not the case at all. When we asked the blonde bartender for two shots she made them incorrectly. My boyfriend asked if she would not mind making the the correct way. Her response was "I've already made them, there isn't anything I can do with them, just drink them and I will only charge you for one." WHAT?! Not even five minutes later the gentlemen next to me asked for his bill. Apparently if ordered a beer, took a sip, did not like it, and returned it. She still left it on the bill. He asked why and her response was "you ordered it and I poured it so I have to charge you, if you just wanted a sample you should have asked." WHAT?! Who talks to customers like that? When he asked to see the manager she said fine and went off in a tizzy. She returned without a manager and took his beer off the check. We were all really hoping the manager was going to come over so we could all explain how terrible she was. On the bright side when we were walking out we noticed how nice and engaging the front bartenders were, guess we should have sat there. read more

I've been here a few times and sometimes it's a hit or miss. At times I'm seated and served right away, but at other times, I am left waiting at my table for 30mins before being asked about drinks and almost an hour waiting for food. Have been to the Union Pub several times for lunch as I work in the area. The service is generally very good. The food is mediocre at best. It's a pub, so mostly pub type food like burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and fries. It was hard to get condiments like ketchup, mustard, and mayo. Prices are reasonable and they do have an extensive beer menu. I generally opt to go somewhere else in the area for lunch that is quieter and has better ambience. read more

Been going here for years... no more. As a contracotor, need to get in and out in 45 minutes. While the food quality has decreased slightly, the service is particularly glaring. Get served takes awhile. Getting food takes even longer. Get a refill? Forget it. It seems to me that the management team turned over in the past year and the good staff left and the weaker staff cared. Rather than go and leave what should be a substandard tip.... I just don't go. If you are not a Chicago Bears fan, stay far away from this bar. I went with a group of friends who are fans of all different teams (including but not limited to the Bears) and we were actually asked to leave by a short bald manager about 10 minutes before the NFL game we were watching was over. He seemed to believe that our presence was upsetting his Bear fan patrons. I have never been disrespected like that in a place of business. I work around Mass ave and was pleasantly surprised to find this excellent bar/restaurant. The food is always especially good. And the wait staff is very friendly. If you wanna belly up at the bar for a drink, there are awesome bartenders to help you out. Not only are the terrific bartenders, they're all around great people. There's a daytime bartender named Matt who is hilarious and always has a story to cheer up your day. At night there's Boone and he has a sparkle in his eye that cannot be matched. 5 stars! Union Pub has been the home of the FSU Alumni Association of Washington DC for the past few years, and they have been by far the most supportive of all the bars that have hosted us since I got to DC in 2008. The management and staff are fantastic, the food is awesome, and the drink specials are always on point. UP's support is one of the reasons the DC Noles won "Best Gamewatch" location out of all the FSU Alumni Club's in the nation. There's really no better place to watch FSU football in the DC area - can't recommend this place enough. read more
