There are plenty of nail salons on Union Street and I've been to most of them. I tried Union Nails this week and had a good experience. They have a large selection of colors, and I loved the red speckled shade I chose. This is a basic, no-frills salon -- no massage chairs, just a long bench with pillows -- but they took their time and did a really nice job. Amy is great. I walked home in flip flops and later changed into flats, which unfortunately ruined my big left toenail (ugh!). I went back the next day and they fixed it without any issue. Been to this nail salon a few times, and they are so fast and efficient. I also love that they always have availability. Something that threw me off at first was that they do regular top coat over dip but it actually does last a long time! My nails tend to last a 3-4 weeks and the way they remove the dip is in such a healthy way that doesn't damage my natural nail so I really appreciate that. The ladies working there are also so kind and listen to what you want, and let you take your time if you need to answer an email or call. The last and final time 2 nails came off in first 24 hours and within 5 days all 10 nails were off. Bummer because the staff is nice but there is just no longevity. I hate leaving negative reviews but this was one of the worst manicures I've ever had. I always get a "healthy nail dip" manicure at my local salon but was visiting SF and wanted to treat my daughter to a manicure so we stopped in here as walk ins. We were immediately seated and both received speedy service. The problem started after we left the salon. Within 1 hour, one of my nails completely popped off! Over the next week, I lost a nail a day til I ended up with 2 manicured nails and 8 naked ones. It was a total waste of money. I assume they did not prep the nail bed appropriately prior to performing the dip. Overall, next time I'm in SF, I will walk right on by Union Nail Spa and try any one of a number of other salons on Union Street. read more

- place is clean - no massage chairs - receptionist nice but on personal call in back all day (i dont care but she could have managed a situation better if she was around) - lots of colors which was cool but not enough neutrals - cold water used for soaking feet - terrible time management causing everyone in process to have a worst experience.. i had just been sat down for a mani/pedi and two people walked in asking for mani/pedi and mani. Instead of saying " it will take at least 30min " (because there were only two mani/pedi specialists and they had just started me), the receptionist said " sure! " so they sat down and waited for 40 minutes.. in the process my " massage " was two minutes long on each hand and she told me she would return to put top coat but she never did .. so i had to ask if I could put it on myself.. so then she came to do it but i had to wait longer for it to dry ... and when I finally got up (or attempted to), the pillow and towel were still on me, my nails were not dry so as i adjusted myself no one came to my rescue to move the pillow on my lap!! I had to ask for receptionist or nail lady to help! *in the end, by the time i walked out, the girl who wanted the mani said she didnt want the mani.. because she was STILL waiting while her friend was being worked on! read more

I've been going to Union Nail Spa for a couple of years and I've always been super happy with it. The space itself is typical Marina nail salon -- narrow and cluttered, but fine -- and they always did a great job (and gave *excellent* food/leg massages and I would often pay for extended time!). Lately it's been a bit touch and go -- a few months ago, they gave me a manicure and cut me two times (on different hands) that ended up getting infected and was super painful. Still, I went back to let them redeem themselves. Today I called to make an appointment for a pedicure (which, in my experience, they loosely adhere to anyway), and when I went I still had to wait about 15 min. There was a new lady who started my pedicure. She made one of my toes bleed, and just laughed at it without apologizing. The foot massage was nonexistent, and the overall quality was just meh. The salon was cold, and hectic, and there was another woman who had made an appointment (for an entire hour after mine) that was getting up to leave because she didn't have the time to sit and wait. I want to keep supporting this place, but I'm not sure why I should keep giving them the benefit of the doubt. There are 2 or 3 other nail salons within a block. read more

Firstly, it was sort of uncomfortable when I was getting the grooming treatment and the cuticle cutting hurt a bit. I paid for a gel manicure, it's been less than a week and two nails have already chipped off. Really enjoyed my experience here! :) This is a smaller nail salon but they did an incredible job on my nails. Techs took their time and payed close attention to detail. I felt relaxed and they gave me a long pedicure massage! I got dip on my nails and a regular pedicure. The chairs are not massage chairs and the water wasn't bubbling but still warm and seating was still comfortable. They took me as a walk in and were very kind.
