No frills, massage was under a minute, barely any scrub, and the cleaning wasn't thorough. It felt more like an express pedicure, yet it cost $38. We had booked for two people, but when we arrived, there was only one therapist. Don't let them use the electric file to take off any old nails/polish. They have always been my go to place for years until this week. I went to remove my acrylic nails, which I never had before. The only guy(who I'm not sure is even licensed) that works there & who is usually in charge of "taking off" older polish/nails helped me. He used the electric file on me twice. First to get my initial paint off & the second time after he soaked my nails in Acetone & was trying to get the acrylic part off. I expected my nails to be thinner after the acrylic, but My nails were throbbing in pain and red for 24 hours. This salon has used the electric files in the past to take off gel. I hate 1-star reviews; they often assume the worst and don't give the business a chance to know or resolve what happened 2. This review is 100% for the person I spoke with on the phone and not my wonderful and kind technician who was hustling 3. My pedicure skipped some vital steps and seemed rushed so it looks... interesting lol.. I didn't notice until today which was my bad and why I called 4. I also wanted to understood what the "signature pedicure" includes vs assuming... maybe cuticle cutting and nail shaping aren't included? Nail trends are wild these days! 5. I was treated very poorly on the phone and treated like a liar. I wasn't even able to inquire about fixing my nails bc the person on the phone told me "no" my issue was not real but here I am with these messy looking toes LOL 6. Treating well-intended customers poorly and being so disrespectful that you make them upset is never okay 7. Saying "no" again and again when a customer explains their experience, invalidating them is unacceptable unless the customer is lying. This is called gaslighting. 8. Saying you watched every step be completed when you didn't is not okay and just so silly and impossible 9. I appreciate them for blindly having the tech's back vs blaming them but clearly they were avoiding a refund, which isn't what I wanted I just wanted someone to fix these sad little toes 10. This review isn't about my pedicure, it's about the horrendous way I was treated 11. Had I not been disrespected on the phone and my concern been properly acknowledged and addressed, this could have been a 5-star review 12. There were several attempts of Joy Joy randomly saying "thank youu.." in the middle of me talking, trying to hang up (like whaaaat?!) 13. The call ended with them hanging up on me If you're still with me.. Here's how the call went. I called and asked what the signature pedicure comes with. I was told a 10-minute massage, everything in a basic pedicure, paraffin wax, and lotion. I asked what a basic pedicure come with and it was clear that they were supposed to file my nails, cut cuticles, and apply lotion. I also don't remember getting a massage but let's forget about that because the issue is that my toenails are wrecked and the paint job can be described as "2-4 week grown out." I have had one other pedicure in the last 2 years, I am paying for them to clean up my nails and just being here is such a special treat for me. The main issue? The person on the phone responded to me constantly with "no," invalidating everything I said about my service and the very toes I was looking at. This implied I was lying. I have a hideous pedicure and I had to say multiple times "you cannot see my toes, they are on my body and I am literally looking at them." It was laughable. The person on the phone refused to listen, inferred I was lying, told me my reality wasn't true (gaslighting), and yet I am sitting here with my jagged, poorly painted toes. I give my tech a 5/5 given her crazy schedule, what an angel for enduring a busy schedule and such awful management. If they are this rude to customers I cannot imagine how poorly they treat their staff. I genuinely hope that she chose to be so awful because I booked through ClassPass. That being said, Joy Joy is actively partnering with ClassPass so it wouldn't be fair to make that my problem. Speaking of - I paid $81.42 in total. The signature pedicure is $65 but through ClassPass it cost me $66.42 so a tiny bit more than the actual service. I usually tip 20% but tipped 24% on the $65 service knowing ClassPass surely takes a cut. I know that Joy Joy probably didn't realize that I paid more than normal but what I paid makes this experience even more upsetting as someone who never gets my nails done due to their financial circumstances. And when I get a pedicure I tip well, despite my financial circumstances and apparently before looking at what I'm tipping on. Needless to say, I do not recommend coming here. There are so many other incredible nail spots on Union where everyone is kind and respectful. read more

Really sloppy job. Specifically requested gold french manicure for a special event. Despite showing multiple pictures, tech had no recommendation for color. In frustration I ended up picking a random pink color (as the tech complained its taking so long). Didnt bother scrubbing, massaging, or cutting cuticles (basics of manicure). Was careless with the sanding tool, causing pain and heat on both my thumb nails. Did a sloppy slop with powder. My nails look like ugly blobs of color, which she forgot to paint the ends (so it looks like its already grown out). I am quite upset, as I was getting nails done for my siblings wedding ceremony. I have had an entirely different experience vs many of these reviews. This is my third time at the salon and each pedi I have had has lasted forever. Tina was so kind, patient and sweet yday. She warned me that the color I chose would come out light and offered to do a sample trike. I was actually really happy with that stroke and appreciated her gesture. I absolutely loved the results. 3 hrs later I stupidly wore closed toe heels thinking the pedi was completely dry. And to my horror I had smudged the perfect pedi! I came back this morning and Tina kindly fixed my smudges and even after insisting that I pay/offer tip she absolutely refused. I felt so bad as she spent +10 min correcting MY mistake! The woman seemed annoyed I was there. 4 people working and they currently have 7 clients which 4 are waiting in the chairs and have not been helped yet. Not to mention 2 more clients walk thru the door after me and the woman tells all of us it'll only be 15 minutes. I told them I could come back or cancel and they said it would be no problem. I waited 25 minutes before I was sat in the chair and another 15 minutes before a woman started on my pedicure. She took 15 minutes total for my entire pedicure. Then I waited another hour 20 minutes before another woman started on my manicure. She did it in 10 minutes. My nails are uneven and my cuticles are not cut. I asked for a fan to dry my nails while I waited even longer. I was there 2 hours total for a regular mani/pedi when I was worked on a total of 25 minutes. They shooed me out before my fingers or toes were fully dry and then asked me to pay a second time because I paid on class pass. She did not understand how class pass worked and I didn't know what to do since I had paid thru there. They do not care about their work. It's just a money grab. Never met more incompetent nail technician than Trina. I left crying after how she ruined my nails today. I stopped by to take off gel which took her 1.5hr and normally should be around 0.5h. First she was trying to convince me it's acrylics although I have been doing gel for years. She clearly didn't know how to take it off. After some trying she tried to convince me it's done although I could still see and feel gel which I pointed out to her. She got frustrated and used nail file so aggressively that she BROKE two of my nails, one in the MIDDLE which hurts till now, and left grooves in the rest. She kept looking ostentatiously at the clock and telling me it takes too long and that she has other customers. If you can't finish one properly, don't admit more than you can handle. Immediately after I had to buy nail conditioner and completely cut all my nails after taking pictures. I will be healing them for weeks before they look presentable and the nail broken in the middle grows back... I was charged $45 for this "masterwork". Got the most basic gel manicure and lady didn't even prep my nails or anything and ended up using the wrong color from what I had selected. i'm going to start off saying that I came here before for a french gel pedicure and had a wonderful job done, came back to get acrylics and felt ripped off. On the left is the reference photo and on the right is what I received after paying $85. I asked 3 times if they were going to be exactly like the reference photo (filling and a thinner white tip) and was assured that it would be. I left the salon with almost duck nails that flare out. The manicurist was extremely rough with my nails and didn't even let them soak off properly, she literally filled my nails down sooooo thin just so she could get the previous gel polish off faster instead of letting them soak properly. I came for a regular manicure and I left super unhappy. The shape of my nails were all different and different lengths. I had to correct the person doing my nails 3 to 4 times and I still left with some nails rounded and some nails square rounded. I chose a sheer natural color for my nails and once applied, there was no time taken in between coats for the polish to dry which left the 2nd and 3rd coat all fragmented and distorted. The top coat wasn't even shiny. After my service I went to cvs to buy the same polish and redid them myself. Otherwise I would've posted a picture. Whole service was rushed. Perhaps if you do gel it would be a different story. The place was clean though. read more

Had a regular polish change and thought they did a pretty good job. Price was about $3-5 more than some other parts of the city though and they are pretty much cash only. ($25 minimum to use a card.)
