De Vere Beaumont Estate - The awful bed.

Upon arrival at the De Vere Beaumont Estate, we were warmly welcomed -- not by staff, but by an…read moreautomated email from the General Manager, Darren, proudly announcing a £12 million investment throughout the hotel. Sadly, not a single pound appears to have been spent on guest comfort, basic amenities, or hospitality standards. Let's start with the bedrooms, which are, frankly, a triumph of style over substance. Despite the rising summer temperatures and this being a supposedly premium hotel, there is no air conditioning. None. Zilch. Nada. We were instead forced to borrow a small army of fans from reception -- each one as weak and defeated as our morale after night one. They merely pushed warm air around the room like a sad little hurricane of disappointment. Then there's the bed, which I can only assume was constructed by someone with a grudge against vertebrae. I've had more restful nights on upright airport chairs. My back is still sending hate mail. The restaurant provided another round of confusion. First, the buffet requires payment up front, like you're about to sprint off with a pocket full of croissants. You can't charge to your room -- presumably because the hotel either doesn't trust its guests or doesn't own the technology to allow it. Either way, it's a real vibe-killer when you're trying to enjoy dinner and feel instead like you're queuing for a meal at a motorway service station. Oh, and drinks service? Glacial. Our bottle of wine -- ordered with our mains -- finally arrived after we'd finished eating. So, naturally, we rebranded it as a dessert wine. Very avant-garde. Very De Vere. Finally, back to Darren's proud email: "We hope you're enjoying the £12m investment." Darren, mate, was the money spent entirely on the reception area and email automation software? Because it certainly didn't make its way to the rooms, the beds, the fans, the payment systems, or the bar staff. In conclusion: De Vere Beaumont Estate has the bones of a beautiful venue but operates with the charm and efficiency of a government-issued training facility. If you're into sweating through your sheets, paying for food before seeing it, and enjoying your wine as a post-meal digestive -- then congratulations, you've found your nirvana

There is a gym that guests can use for a small fee that is 3 minutes away but it doesn't open until 8 or 9am depending on the day. That is too late for me since I was going to work early every day. The rooms are tiny with a double bed. I had a view of the rooftop next door. The mattress was pretty firm and the bed had 4 pillows one of which was a feather. The bathroom had a nice shower with one of those rain shower heads and the water got really hot. The shower door was one of those half doors that doesn't close. That seems a bit weird but it worked. The bathroom has a towel warmer but mine was not working which was unfortunate. It also got a bit stuffy in my room at night luckily the window was able to open a little bit, enough for fresh air! There are coffee pods, and tea in the room. I love that they give you the Walkers biscuits in your room. They are so good and there were many flavors that they replenished every day. Also they gave you water in your mini fridge. My co worker was not happy that there was no lotion or conditioner in the bathroom. She asked for lotion at the front desk but then had to buy some conditioner. I always bring mine so it wasn't a big deal for me. My reservation came with a buffet breakfast in the restaurant. It was your traditional English breakfast The coffee was horrible. 2/10 on the coffee scale. The location is fabulous and very walkable. Kitty corner to the Windsor castle and shopping is steps away.

As an American, I was somewhat taken aback by the lovely receptionist who asked, "Did you know Trump is going to visit?" I thought she was being inclusive. My response, "Yes! I'm bummed I'll miss him." She said, with an unpleasant look, "You are?" Yes, half of America voted for and continue to support this man. Leave politics out of hospitality. That said, she was lovely on ash other accounts. The lift didn't work, but it's an old, but stunning building. Rooms are spacious and finally, we got face cloths! The restaurant and bar have a great atmosphere. Decorated with greenery (fake but will maintained) and bright colors that make you feel alive. The restaurant and bar include a variety of food and drink that would please anyone, even the pickiest of eaters. However, upon arrival at the bar, we weren't sure if we needed to order first or wait for a server. A server came by and she either was having a bad day or she didn't care for Americans, as we attempted to relate our order to her and got abide and sarcastic remarks. We would have left if it wa6nt for Jake. He was accommodating, friendly and went out of guys way for us. He's a reason we would return to the bar/restaurant! The beds are comfy, however my cousin and I have twin beds and they slide this way and that. Wondering if there's a way to make them more stable. First round at the mini bar is complimentary. Our view was towards the back of the hotel. Nothing to see there but cranes, alleys and rooftops that are an odd guy to the rest of the hotel. The great food, comfort and welcoming (for the most part) make this a place I would return, grabbed politics are never discussed, especially upon check in and not promoted by any conversation and we're the receptionist's personal views. It definitely made me want to start elsewhere. It's fortunate we had a great experience after check in. Again, it almost made me feel uncomfortable and I was thinking of leaving. However, people have different opinions and I respect that. I just didn't think I would encounter such bias upon check-in. I wonder if our room with the not so great view were based on my views. With the lift out of order, we either had to lug our suitcases up 3 flights if crooked stairs or have someone lug them up for us. The man was so gracious, but this is a job for the young and fit. I felt signing this task what I believe was the most senior staff was not a week thought out plan. Again, the hotel, location, lovely accommodations, food and most staff makes this a wonderful choice for your stay in Windsor!
