It's a review long overdue. I went to the afternoon tea at ham yard hotel a few months ago and it was definitely the highlight of my trip. Upon arrival, the doorman opened the door for us and we walked towards the restaurant. Shortly after, we were escorted to the outdoor dining area which I much enjoyed since it's afternoon tea. The place was nicely decorated and felt very relaxed. It also felt pretty spacious as well. There's a good variety of tea to choose from but I mostly just stick to the basic. Now for the food. I have to say, I'm not a sandwich or scone person even before I signed up for the trip. I went bc one of my friends suggested it and see what it's all about. When the food arrived, I first thought it's probably going to some pretty looking sandwiches and desserts that's bland and overly sweet. After the first bit info the sandwich, I was totally wrong. Almost every single sandwich served was good, the only thing that I didn't like was the cucumber since I'm not a cucumber person. Now move on to the scone. The cream that came with the scone was excellent. It's not overly buttery but it's soft so it's easy to spread. The strawberry jam, man, you can tell they're using some good quality jam. It complimented the scone perfectly. Last but not least, everything on the dessert plate was a mini surprise. It's light and not overly sweet. The combination of the desert flavor is really unique and it was the perfect bite. I enjoyed almost every single item. Lastly, my server did an excellent job to create this wonderful afternoon tea experience. We asked her to refill our tea pots a few times and utensils for our leftovers. She even packaged the desserts and scones very nicely. My server was a tall blonde female with a single ponytail. I really appreciated her patience with my and my party. I'll highly recommend anyone for coming here for afternoon tea. Make sure you reserve your table in advance!

As many other reviewers have noted, this is a top-notch spot in Soho with an excellent restaurant and incredible customer service. My cousin and I made a reservation for afternoon tea on a Friday and requested an atrium table, which are typically reserved for hotel guests but are open to other guests if available. When I arrived, the hotel staff pointed the way to the restaurant and the hostess offered to go ahead and seat me just before my cousin arrived. We were seated at one of the cozy wicker chair four tops and immediately offered tea, coffee, and hot cocoa. Our server also noted that the menu had recently changed. According to my cousin, the prior tea menu included beef sliders and a chicken salad sandwich, both of which she recalled being very good. Everything arrived quickly and perfectly. Our savory options included cucumber, egg, ham, and salmon sandwiches and smoked salmon-and-caper crutons (delicious). We also had an assortment of warm fluffy scones with clotted cream and jams. The dessert offerings were a work of art and almost too beautiful to eat. I tried the chocolate raspberry tart, which was light and yummy. We were both pretty full from our sandwiches and scones, and our very attentive server graciously boxed up the remaining desserts so we could enjoy them later. I really liked the ambiance here, too. Surrounded by beautiful fiddle-leaf fig trees and rubber plants as well as unusual art pieces and unique decor, it was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. From the comfort of the atrium, we saw clouds roll in, a light rain fall, and the sun reappear. Afterward, my cousin, who is well acquainted with the hotel, gave me a tour, on which I saw the spa, the downstairs bar/speakeasy (complete with a two-story fresh orange-juice dispenser!), theater, and bowling alley. We were so enthralled in conversation that not until we were down the street at Whole Foods did we notice that her phone had been left behind on her chair in the restaurant. On our walk back, we passed our server on the street who told us she had left it with security. Sure enough, the hotel security brought her phone out and, to confirm it was hers, asked that she unlock it before handing it over. Very smart and appreciated! If you are in the West End for a show or shopping, I highly recommend making a lunch reservation here. You might also check out the library adjacent to reception for a peaceful spot to read and relax.

This review is for Afternoon Tea...We've been in London for a week and booked tea at two locations prior to Ham Yard. Without a doubt, Ham Yard's tea service blew the others away. We were seated in very comfortable chairs in the atrium and treated kindly by the waitstaff. Our sandwiches included pastrami, salmon, cucumber and a perfectly divine chicken curry sandwich. My dining partner and I were both relieved there was no egg sandwich. There were also delicious shrimp arancini (rice balls) and the cutest tomato & pesto tart. The scones were light and flaky and the desserts were beautifully prepared. We were too full to eat them, so the offered to wrap them up to go. The whole experience was so relaxing and fun. We loved it so much, we wished we had time to try to fit in other meals at the restaurant.

Great little hotel near Soho in London. Seems to be newly remodeled and really eclectic in design with top notch service. Here for three nights in a cold January and these guys were the best. Big spacious rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows (careful you don't get undressed before you pull the shades as there's an office building directly across the street). Rooms are all apportioned by a designer and apparently they're all a little bit different. Big beds, comfortable linens a functional desk and couch / table. Great setup. The whole place is clean and modern, but somehow still maintains an old-world charm. Service was terrific with a fantastic in-room breakfast. Had the avocado toast one morning and an egg white omelet another. Really great and prompt. Had a really nice dinner at the hotel restaurant (they handled our large party extremely well) with a ton of delicious options (Schnitzel was the winner over shepherd's pie) and also the bar is it really hopping place. Lots of cool spaces like a drawing room and other spots to bring a small group and we used lot of them at this hotel. They even have a downstairs bowling alley and bar (reserve early as there are only 2 lanes and it seems like they're always busy). Only negative is both check-in and check-out took the same long time they always do. Amazing that nobody (except for US roadside hotels like the Courtyard) have figured out how to make this a less painful experience - especially when a large group shows up. Overall, great little spot and fantastic experience.

Omg they made a film about me! Ahem, loving the decor here...

Coolest, sexiest, eclectic-est venue for a work conference I've been to in ages! This hotel is tucked away in a hidden yard in central Soho, and has been put together as if specifically to win a tonne of design awards. I was here for a work event on womenomics and thus directed immediately downstairs towards the bar and conference hall area. Unlike so many swanky high end hotels it has managed to avoid the boringly monochrome look and is instead awash with bright colours from the lighting to the walls to the plush spongy carpets that made me want to take my shoes off right there. The bar is a sight to behold, beautifully lit and taking up the full length of the main room. There's a series of interlinking rooms for people to wander through, again with a carefully assembled but eclectic sense of decor, before entering a very cushy lecture theatre. Pro tip I discovered during the break in presentations is to head up one flight of stairs to the lush toilets on the mezzanine level, rather than joining the crowd queueing on lower ground. It feels like some fun billionaire's house that you wish you were friends with, and rumour has it there's even a bowling alley upstairs. I only wish I could afford to stay in the hotel properly - as it turns out, having looked up room rates after the conference, they range from the sublime to the ridiculous... One day *sigh*.

OMG this please is insane . 2 words Bowling Alley . 1 word Cinema . If you are staying in London anytime soon then definitely this should be on your list . The private bowling alley is insane , open only to guests staying at the hotel its a real treat ! Upstairs bar is buzzing day and night with people sipping on champagne or taking high tea . The downstairs bar is eclectic, sexy and chic . The cinema is stunning with a contrast of bright orange leather seats with a black carpet . Wait we haven't even got to the rooms yet , TV in the bath, double sinks , mannequin in the corner , floor to celling windows . Do we really have to leave or I can just stay another night !

    Afternoon tea

I made reservations for afternoon tea here as I heard all wonderful things about this hotel. My friend who lives in London suggested we go here because of the decor. When we arrived we debated whether to have the afternoon tea or lunch. Upon check in we asked to see both menus and asked the host if we could have lunch instead. For some reason that was an issue. The second host had to go alert someone of the change and we were asked to take a seat and wait. As I held the menus in my hand I looked over the tea menu and decided to just have the afternoon tea since it's the thing to do while in London. My friend told the host that we decided to go ahead and have afternoon tea. The 2nd host came back to seat us and the first host told her we would be having the tea menu. She then looked at us and said "don't change your minds again please" in a very snobby rude tone, and not joking. At that point I felt so unwelcomed and didn't even want to stay. We asked if we could be seated in the area outside the dining room, with plenty of seating she told us no. We ended up being seated in the dining room. The meal was tasty, but its not like I can't find afternoon tea elsewhere in London. I would never come back here simply because of the service. Some of the decor is very nice only outside the main dining room, but there are elements of tackiness in the way the art and patterns are mixed together in the dining room. The outer seating areas and library have a better touch. I have been to better looking places during my visit here. Most importantly the snobby vibe wasn't for me. I enjoy and frequent in high end atmospheres but that doesn't mean it has to come with this type of reception. I mean, you work here and are in a position of service, to make people feel welcomed, and to provide an experience. I didn't not want to linger here what so ever!

The buffet breakfast was nice with omelets by request, a variety of hot and cold items (bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, baked beans, pancakes/waffles, fresh fruit and vegetables, juices, cereal, yogurt, pastries). There were servers to clear your plates and provide drinks. We had drinks one evening at the bar and Marco was such an entertaining and efficient bartender. We are so fortunate to have spent four nights at The Langham, using it as our base for the trip. This hotel is steeped in history as the first "Grand Hotel" in London and all of Europe, pioneering amenities that were truly groundbreaking for their time. It's also where the tradition of Afternoon Tea was popularized beyond aristocratic circles and introduced to a wider audience. The Langham is also known for their signature scent, almost like a spicy rose, that we are still thinking about to this day. It is the first thing that greets you in the lobby but is not overpowering; you know immediately where you are. The service we received was nothing short of warm and attentive. Our Superior Room was ready upon check-in and very comfortable. We stayed in briefly to recharge from the jet lag and time change before heading down for Afternoon Tea at the Palm Court, which is an experience in itself. A special shout-out to our server, who was extremely generous with scone refills when my wife had to step away briefly after the long journey. Complimentary tea is also served downstairs each morning in a quick grab-and-go fashion, which gave us the daily energy we needed before heading out for a full day of planned activities and sightseeing. Marylebone is ideally situated in the heart of central London, with easy access to hot spots like Mayfair and SoHo. The London Underground is just steps from the hotel, putting most of the city within about 20 minutes' reach. Shopping, dining, and museums are all nearby, and the Hotel Concierge was proactive enough to reach out before our trip to help book activities. One highlight was the swimming pool, located beneath the hotel in what was once an underground bank vault. We didn't make it to the gym, but we did peek inside and it was beautifully appointed. We are fans of The Langham brand and can't wait to return to The Langham London and explore their properties in other cities around the world!

One year later we were back for a mother daughter trip with another mother/daughter. I originally booked the St Ermins again, but then thought it may be fun to switch it up and stay in a new area of London. A friend/travel agent recommended The Marylebone Hotel, which met all of our requirements: - easy to get around in London - fairly priced by London standards - good shopping/restaurant area We arrived a little cranky from our flight in Edinburgh after a 2 hour Uber from the airport. They greeted us warmly and even told me they had an upgrade for me, although ran out of upgraded for my friend which didn't make her happy. To be fair our rooms were right next to each other and I didn't see a difference so don't think mine was really "upgraded" The rooms like most in London were small. We had 2 twin beds pushed together. It was basically like sleeping in one big bed, but we had our own set of covers which made my 13 year old happy. Everything was very clean and nice, but small. The attached gym was great. It seemed to be a popular local gym so was quite crowded, but if there was room in classes hotel guests could join. I did a leg class one day, which I enjoyed...although got a great leg workout just walking miles and miles around London everyday. The surrounding area was so cute - filled with boutiques (some unique to London and other popular back in the states). There were lots of little cafes to grab a treat as well. We spent a lot of time in covenant garden to see shows on this trip, which was quite the walk but great way to get exercise. And when we returned from the craziness of covenant garden it was nice to be in a quiet area. Breakfast was included in our daily rate. The buffet was adequate and I enjoyed eggs and coffee from the menu. We also received a $50 room credit, which we used to raid the mini bar the last day for some airplane snacks. I thought St Ermins was the perfect pick for my family's first trip to London since it was right next to the tube and near so many sites, but this hotel worked out perfectly for a mother daughter eating, shopping and shows adventure.

It took 10 minutes for them to figure it out. Again, I'm a Platinum Elite loyal traveller, but no upgrade, no welcome, and no room I'd paid for without a fight! Horrible start. Served its purpose for a couple of days in London, but won't be back. Will spend more little more to get much nicer cleaner room closer to an Underground station. Lots of other Marriott hotels in central London to choose from!
