Adorable little boutique hotel diagonal from Windsor castle on High Street. My main complaint is there is no gym in the hotel. There is a gym that guests can use for a small fee that is 3 minutes away but it doesn't open until 8 or 9am depending on the day. That is too late for me since I was going to work early every day. The rooms are tiny with a double bed. I had a view of the rooftop next door. The mattress was pretty firm and the bed had 4 pillows one of which was a feather. The bathroom had a nice shower with one of those rain shower heads and the water got really hot. The shower door was one of those half doors that doesn't close. That seems a bit weird but it worked. The bathroom has a towel warmer but mine was not working which was unfortunate. It also got a bit stuffy in my room at night luckily the window was able to open a little bit, enough for fresh air! There are coffee pods, and tea in the room. I love that they give you the Walkers biscuits in your room. They are so good and there were many flavors that they replenished every day. Also they gave you water in your mini fridge. My co worker was not happy that there was no lotion or conditioner in the bathroom. She asked for lotion at the front desk but then had to buy some conditioner. I always bring mine so it wasn't a big deal for me. My reservation came with a buffet breakfast in the restaurant. It was your traditional English breakfast The coffee was horrible. 2/10 on the coffee scale. The location is fabulous and very walkable. Kitty corner to the Windsor castle and shopping is steps away. read more

Rooms are ok not great not nice just ok. Resturant in building is ok not great not outstanding just ok. Room maintenance so so. Hvac was not good hot at night had to open the window to cool down. Washroom shower is made for small people. An overall rating is ok Location is great. read more

We had such a lovely time here! For my fellow Americans, I'll try to make this as clear as possible. 1. Every employee was amazing - knowledgeable, helpful, and extremely professional. 2. The on-site services are top-notch. It's the first time in my experience that a hotel breakfast was well worth getting up for. Their chefs really know what they're doing. (For coffee dinkers, try their Americano - and ask for double cream.) 3. The location is perfect. Windsor is a lovely little town, and the MacDonald's placement couldn't be better. The train is right there for travel to London, and you couldn't really get closer to the castle without being inside it. 4. Everything was kept wonderfully clean - and this is good, beca use your bed will not have a top sheet. Most of you may know this already, but many places in Europe don't use a to sheet; they just change the duvet cover for hygiene. I'll be honest - I really like that. Bed covers in hotels are usually gross, but these were always clean. Altogether, the MacDonald Windsor is just a terrific spot. I can't recommend it enough. read more

I had a business trip to Windsor and this hotel was recommended by a colleague. It's right in the heart of Windsor; you walk out the front door and the castle is "right there". The rooms are super comfy, robes, slippers, wonderful coffee & tea and a good size bathroom. There is a mini-bar, hairdryers, a safe, ample toiletries, bottle of water each day for the hotpot or Nespresso, there was nothing else needed. The restaurant and bar downstairs was convenient, especially with a bit of jet lag on the first day and it was chilly out. The bartenders were super friendly to this solo traveler, so much appreciated. I did not breakfast here; the Starbucks around the corner had ham and cheese toasties and a latte for 4.65, so that was easy. There is also a Cafe Nero just a bit further if you prefer. Large mirrors in the sitting area so you can blow dry hair; albeit was a bit dark, even with all the lights on. You can hear a bit of what's happening in the next room (I was in 411), so be sure to set your AC unit fan to "high", that did help. Peascod St has just about all the shopping one would need and it's right out the front door 1/2 block. Make sure to try Sebastians for dinner. Wow. It's just a two minute walk and amazing Italian food; impeccable service. The changing of the guards also comes right by the hotel's front door. Will definitely make this my hotel for business trips to Windsor. read more

Wooo! First review in the UK, first American to review the MacDonald and first to review overall! That's a lot of firsts! The MacDonald is a very beautiful hotel. As in the whole of London and surrounding areas storefronts and entryways are very small. MacDonald is no exception to that standard. Only being marked by a flag out front, the MacDonald is a 4 star hotel that is very unique. The lobby are is swanky with a modern look. The bar and restaurant area is a great place to meet and it doesn't actually feel like a 'hotel bar' at least by American standards. The hotel is overall very green. Featuring LED lighting in the rooms and motion activated lighting in the hallways, conserving energy. There are fire doors which are shut every night to conserve heat. Every socket is controlled by a switch, so don't get frustrated, just flip the switch. They offer complimentary still water, coffee and tea in room. There were biscuits in the tea box but just to be safe I left those alone. Each room has it's own heating and cooling control, not some giant awkward air conditioner hanging out the window. I really liked the LED lighting. Everything looks so much more modern and bright. Complimentary robes and slippers hang in the closet, they can be taken home for a price. Windsor is a nice location which is about a 40 minute train ride from central London. Taking the train is the way to go. If one does rent a car, like we have, parking is available in a lot arranged by the hotel just a few doors away. So here is the funny thing. each rooms seems to be different. I stayed here with several co workers and all of our rooms had slightly different layouts even rooms on the same side of the hotel! It's not a bad thing. I mean, considering the building has so much history one would expect it. I think it adds character and find it humorous. The hotel is located amidst several good pubs and restaurants. There is plenty of shopping nearby and of course the WIndsor castle sits atop a hill just across the street. I hope to visit London again for a third time in my life and if I do I would like to stay here again. There are no workout areas or gyms, \i think this is true for most English hotels with great history. But there is a playground area just byond the car park of a neighboring hotel and of course you can run along the Long Walk and even catch a glimpse of the Queen as she drives by. read more

The Macdonald Windsor Hotel is centrally located directly across from the Windsor Castle, so when the flag is flying just know that you and the Queen are sharing space within a couple thousand yards of one another. That's right, you might as well be royalty. Speaking of royalty, the staff at the Macdonald will treat you as such. I have to say that from the service staff to the front desk staff to the bar staff (who happen to be the bar that stays open the latest in Windsor) are all exceptional at their jobs. They take their duties seriously and professionally regardless of their status at the Hotel (i.e., from the lowest tier associate to the managers - everyone is excellent and worthy of praise and a raise). I cannot think of a poor experience that I had with staff over the course of 5 business days. The rooms are quite nice and every comfort has been thought about and is at your disposal within the confines of your room. From turn down service and your chocolates, to the quite nicely placed magazines for you to read on the bed, it was all well done. I even noticed the nice touch that they changed the magazine selection in my room daily and made notice that I was not using the red comforter and simply removed it from my room during my stay. Attention to detail is an extreme positive. So, you are probably wondering why I only applied 4 stars out of 5 stars. I have to say that I was disappointed that the "gym" was a deal the hotel has with a local gym about 5 - 10 minute walk away and that even with the deal the cost is still 10 GBP. And, the "gym" does not open until 6:30am. That timing does not really allow for morning workouts and the ability to begin to conduct business at 8:00am or 8:30am once you take it account travel to/from gym, need to shower, and the desire to workout. It just cannot be done. Rather disappointing from this physical fitness inclined soul. read more

Again this report is dated, but I found Windsor to be more interesting place to stay while working at Bracknel. Big castle, big burger joints near the castle, lots of pubs, swans on the Thames and a bunch of 13 year old kids walking around in Tuxedos. Thank you Eton College, for maintaining such 1440's tradition alive. I'm sure King Henry VI, per his idea of "The King's College of Our Lady of Eton besides Wyndsor", would be proud. I'd expect a bunch of little brides maids to come prancing through next? It's a fairly nice hotel. The site is excellent, the castle is right there, shops are walking distance, the train station is close by. Staff really friendly, the rooms very clean and modern shower, good overall experience. Of course there's a lot more to do here after work hours than say at where our high-tech design house is. read more

Really enjoyed my stay here. The location is perfect - a short walk to pretty much everything, and it has a certain sophistication and elegance without being stuffy. Perfect location: right next to Windsor Castle and Windsor & Eton Central station (Windsor & Eton riverside isn't much further either). It is expensive but I couldn't find any fault. The room was amazing, the staff was really polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast consisted in a buffet of fruits, a bit of cooked meat, cheese, croissants, muffins, bread, etc. Hot food such as a regular English breakfast or Veggie breakfast could be ordered at no extra charge (other things were available, like smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, for an extra fee). My satisfaction with my stay is proportional to how sad I was when I got home. And I was devastated. read more

I really enjoyed this hotel. Location is fabulous - close to everything. The room is quiet and comfy with everything i could possibly need. This may be one person's opinion, and this is probably a traditional British hotel, but: It's 2016. Their wifi in the lobby and my room sucks. I know this because I am Bill's and theirs rocks. How do you not have Sky Sports or ESPN? Maybe because the demographic here seems to be upper middle aged tourists. Other little things: no bottle opener in the room, for instance. Having just come from Paris, where the Renaissance Republique rocked, this is a big step down. read more
