If I were just reviewing the drinks I would probably give them a 4. The drinks are great (the chai freeze is particularly delightful) and the servers are nice. But I just can't get over the sandwich in front of me. I ordered a very simple, ham and honey mustard on a baguette. The were out of baguettes and so offered me ciabatta bread instead. I was fine with that. At no point did the word "panini" pass between us, and yet, when I got my sandwich, it was hot and clearly pressed. Not what I wanted at all, but not inedible. So I take my take out and head back to work. I should have looked closer. Apparently "honey mustard" at this cafe means honey with a million mustard seeds in it. So instead of adding a smooth, sweet/sharp tang to my sandwich, I have slimy seeds popping and getting stuck between my teeth. To make it worse, I love actual honey mustard so I ordered extra. It's overwhelming and basically ruins everything ever. I'm not opposed to new takes on food. Innovation is great. But maybe warn a person. And if you're going to panini someone's sandwich, make sure that's what they want. Especially when it's not what they asked for. I would add another half star if I could because the ham is good quality. But I can't bring myself to go with a 3 star "A Ok!" review. read more

Best spent grain bread...I assume they get the beer-making spent grain from the Cape Cod Brewery. It makes outstanding toast!!! I live in CT and buy 4 or 5 loaves at a time......freezes very well. I always pick up big cookies when I am there. read more

I did not have a good experience the few times I went. The staff was not friendly. It seemed an inconvenience each time I asked a question or asked for help. The time my family and I ordered food, we told the person at the counter we would be sitting outside, and we were not told we'd have to come inside to get our orders. Our coffee was brought to us outside. We waited over a half an hour for our food, I finally went in to check on it, and it was sitting on the counter!! Who knows how long it was sitting there. It wasn't brought to us and was almost cold by that time. We wouldn't have gotten our food if I hadn't gone in to check. No one really took responsibly or apologized. The food was fine, nothing special. I would not go back for food or recommend. read more

Had something the woman at the counter desribed as a "French Dougnut" which was said to be nutmeg flavored with cinnamon and sugar. It was shaped like a muffin and was great. I have been craving the darn things since I have been back home and now searching the web for recipes that look similar with no perfect matches. If I was still a college student I could imagine a road trip to get one of these. Coffee was good as well. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the area, but they are so much more. Great baked goods, donuts, sandwiches, and also great menu for holidays. Great people as well! read more

Besides having incredibly fabulous food, the atmosphere is like "Cheers" they make you feel welcomed and are very considerate to what you want...very accommodating. There breads are to die for...especially the salty (something-forgot the name) bread; love, love their cupcakes and chi teas...hot dogs bring me back to Manhattan...yummm...and I can't leave out their peanut butter cookies!!! Oh, and homemade soups on cold winter days...all so very good!!! C- read more

My family LOVES Underground! We visit Cape Cod every year on vacation, and we've gone the past two times we've been there! As a plant based family, it can be tough to find options when traveling. We absolutely love that they have yummy vegan options, as well as non-vegan options for my parents! It's a must-stop for us, now. I meant to make this review back in September, but remembered today when looking through pictures of our vacation! read more

This place was great! Loved the breakfast wraps, the coffee and especially the baked goods! Even blogged about it http://canyoucookie.blogspot.com/2012/07/underground-on-cape-underground-bakery.html read more

Got a apple fritter, $3.75 per. It was good, but I would recommend Shaws in Yarmouth. Their apple fritters are also very good and they are $0.79 per. Shaws is worth the ride. read more

Come to the Cape the first week of August every year and start each morning with a mocha and biscotti. Both are delicious and the atmosphere at The Underground is great. read more

An amazing place tucked snugly away in the town center with off street parking available. Everything is fresh, made on site & it shows. Whether it's lunch, breakfast or a snack, Underground provides it & provides it well. Terrific, fresh breakfast sandwiches that satisfy two of us and several different coffees to wash it down. Underground has homemade soups & dessert pastries but my absolute favorite things are the breads, in this order: spent & raisin mead. The raisin mead is beautiful round earthy loaf with subtle flavor. Their spent bread is tasty, nutritious & a wonderful alternative to traditional wheat bread. Underground breads are delicious on their own but toasting them makes them even better. I live in Boston & I love Underground so much that our DD [darling daughter] has instructions NOT to leave the Cape without stopping at Underground Bakery first. There's nothing pretentious here, good, solid, homemade food made by wonderful people who put their all into what they do and it shows. It doesn't get better than that. Well done, guys. read more

While the cookie I had was pretty good, my issue is with the large latte I got. It's the same price as a high end cafe or Starbucks so I would expect the barista to know to make it properly. The milk was completely scolded because the barista clearly had no idea how hot you're supposed to steam the milk, I couldn't even drink it for 15 mins while I cooled down, then if you've ever had scolded milk you know it tastes burnt and gross. To top it off there was zero microfoam. Train your baristas...Waste of $5, wont be back for that. read more

No stars. Telephone presence awful. We were calling in a 12 person order and the person on the phone who claimed to be the manager declared me to be a pain in the ass when we asked to change from turkey to bacon on a sandwich. We immediately terminated the phone call... No class! read more

Nice little place tucked away off of 6A. I can't speak for the baked goods, but the girl at the counter did not know how to make a cafe au lait. read more

I love this place - it's homey & friendly, but not too sappy. The food is fantastic, with the baked breads, muffins, and biscotti that keep me coming back. I also like the fact that there are always a ton of locals there who keep it real, but that plenty of part-timers like myself float through - it makes for interesting conversations. read more

Two strikes and you're out! I have been to the Underground Bakery twice now. The first time the customer in front of me complained of the food being stale and unfortunately I agreed with her. Today, my second time at the Underground Bakery, I was infuriated by the lack of service. Not only did my one egg sandwich take over twenty minutes to make (might I add I was the only customer), there was no acknowledgment from the staff for the poor service, not even from the owner who I recognized from Chronicle. If you're looking for great pastries and service with a smile, I'd suggest trying the nearby Mercantile. In no way is the Underground Bakery all it's cracked up to be and certainly does NOT deserve recognition from Chronicle. l will not go here again and recommend you don't go either read more

Went at 10 to pickup a cupcake birthday order & ordered an egg sandwich in line while I was getting my bakery order. 25 min later, while cupcakes were melting in my car, I asked about an egg sandwich that was the same as my order that was just given to another person. The girl who didn't even check the name of the slip to make sure that she gave away the sandwich order to the correct person, responded that there was a 30-40 minute wait. Don't you think this would be an important disclosure when people are ordering food! Because I didn't have 40 minutes to casually wait for an egg sandwich. I would've ordered something else. The service was poor all around but the lack of disclosure for how long food would take was the tipping point to me. While it looked like a nice place, I will take my business elsewhere. Oh & 120 for 3 dozen cupcakes-seemed a bit steep. Very displeased. read more

the food is ok and the coffee is great. but no one in my family will ever go back there because of the HORRIBLE service. the people at the counter are so rude and always act like they're bothered by you. ask them a question and they give you attitude and seem mad your asking. i keep going back thinking it was a fluke but it never changes. such a shame that a place with great coffee is ruined with snotty cashiers. read more
