I love Undercover Eggplant! I usually get the eggplant special and have no complaints. The bread tastes amazing and is very soft, the lettuce, onion and tomato taste very fresh, and the eggplant, provolone cheese, and pesto mayo combo gets my mouth juicing. They redid their restaurant so there's a lot more room now.. before the line would be out the door! Big portions and incredible food. Can't go wrong here. So, after hearing incredible things about this place for years, I finally had the chance to try it for myself. I went with my mother who ordered the BBQ ribs and Mac n Cheese platter. I had a sandwich (The name slips my mind, but it was turkey, cheese, roasted red peppers, lettuce, and basil mayo). Truth be told, I came away with a lot of disappointment. The sandwich "tasted" okay, the ingredients individually were fine, but the sandwich overall was relatively dry and could've used more of the mayo (I couldn't taste it at all, actually). The bread was somewhat soggy in the middle even though the sandwich was dry, and the bread was burnt on one side. It wasn't terribly bad, just not the tastebud blowing experience I had been expecting. As for the side, I don't really like pasta salad to begin with, but was hoping to be pleasantly surprised and instead was much more disappointed with pasta salad than I usually am. My mom ordered the BBQ ribs and Mac n Cheese plate, and upon first whiff, it seemed like it'd be a great dish. But the first bite of the Mac n Cheese made my mom think of moldy cheese, and when I tasted it I couldn't quite place what cheese it was, but it didn't taste right to me either. The ribs I didn't taste, but my mom said they would have been better if she hadn't been eating the Mac with it. Afterwards, my mom felt pretty ill and was definitely disappointed by the experience. As a die-hard foody, I am saying there is nothing else in Oneonta that even comes close to the Undercover Eggplant. The sandwiches are incredible! They are diverse, unique, and flavorful. I can just choose anything at random from the menu, or the daily specials, and know I'm going to get something delicious that I can't get anyplace else. My favorite is the Louisiana Locksmith, which is fried eggplant, ham, melted mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayonnaise. I usually order one of the specials, however, because I love the variety. The quality of the ingredients and the value for your money is without equal in the Oneonta area. The soups are terrific, as well as the salads. I like a thinner-crust pizza, but the creamy garlic eggplant pizza is still insanely good. There is also a tasty and unique selection of sides, beverages, and desserts. Lunch time can be extremely busy, so I would recommend calling in your order ahead of time. read more

Deliciousness. Their homemade Italian bread is worth the trip in itself, let alone the gargantuan deli sandwiches. I love the vintage 50s type feel it has, especially with the glass bottles of soda. Usually we have to wait slightly longer than expected but it is totally worth it! I like that it offers vegetarian options too - grilled tempeh is good and the hot eggplant is good too! At first I was only stopping here for the Mrs. Eggplant, but one day, alas, I could not order it, and I was forced to explore their menu. I am so happy that happened because I found other really great sandwiches! Right now I really love the Mary Hedwig sandwich which as squash on it! I miss this place so much since moving back to Long Island!! Super clean and staffed with friendly people. The perfect place for a quick bite to eat. I've only had this place once and didn't really see the big deal. The sandwich I got was a turkey one with artichokes, but way too many artichokes. I am tempted to go back and get a different sandwich because everyone raves about this place. They do have a very large selection of beverages, and sandwiches as well. Great stop, not far off from I-88. With Sis and two nieces (11 and 8) - We ordered two pizzas, one with just meatballs and the other was a signature pizza with meatballs, onions and ricotta cheese - both excellent - Loved the crusts. The size is definitely enough for two people. We also order the open faced eggplant sandwich and the chicken Parmesan sandwich ... the eggplant was excellent (would hope so since eggplant is in the name of the restaurant) ... the Chicken Parmesan was so so ... just wasn't out "cup of tea" - thought it would be breaded chicken. Both sandwiches were what I would assume on inhouse baked bread - great bread, just didn't translate to the chicken parm sandwich. Both came with pasta salad which I found to be excellent! GREAT value ... 2 pizzas, 2 sandwiches, 4 beverages - $47. Not your usual sandwich / pizza / salad place. The desserts looked really good - just no room! I have not been there in a few years until last week but remembered the sandwiches being good. It seems to me they really increased the size of the sandwiches from a few years back. I got Maria's Muffaletta (an Italian style sandwich) and it was big with plenty of meat and delicious! I like the fact that the sandwiches are unique and the bread is too. It's a very good sandwich that really is on great bread. Salads are good. I don't see the need for pasta salad on the side of a huge sandwich and would love to see an option to change that to a spring mix salad or something lighter. I went out to lunch on a Wednesday, we ordered sandwiches off the menu. The place wasn't too crowded, most of the tables had people at them but the turnover was pretty quick. The place was clean and surprisingly peaceful given the crowd, and we only waited a few minutes to place our order. The wait was reasonable, we sat at a table for about ten minutes until our pager buzzed and the waitress brought our food. I had their corned beef sandwich, hot corned beef with coleslaw on italian bread with pasta salad on the side. I don't usually eat a lot of coleslaw, but theirs was flavorful and the cool slaw perfectly balanced the hot corned beef, and the bread was very tasty - it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a restaurant. The pasta salad had a very nice sauce and made a good compliment to the meal. We paid $6.95 each for our sandwiches (we didn't get beverages) and I found it to be a very good value and I'll definitely go again. read more

The sandwiches here are amazing. I am stuck on the eggplant sandwich as it is OMG, good! The pizza here is also good compared with the cardboard slabs that are served downtown. But the sandwiches, oh, wow, the sandwiches. If you haven't eaten here, you need to go for a treat. They're very generously sized. I can only eat half of a sandwich in a single sitting, but it gives me lunch the next day and it's VERY affordable, especially for the quality. read more

The Undercover Eggplant just got a makeover. Sparkling clean, brightly colored casual dining deli style. We were a group of 4 and enjoyed huge, delicious sandwiches on fresh baked homemade bread. Mine was a juicy chicken parm sandwich which came with a side of very healthy and delicious tasting pasta salad. My husband's Muffaletta was awesome. We shared a salad that had an antipasto feel to it. The deli meats and cheeses were top quality, very fresh, the Italian Vinaigrette was awesome. The salad was an explosion of color and flavor, truly the best salad I've had in a long time. Servings were huge! Service was fast and friendly. We didn't have dessert but I regret not taking some home as I heard there pastry chef is a Culinary Institute of America grad. Oneonta needs more top notch spots like this one. We will be back again and again. No delivery but well worth the trip. Tip - we went during their afternoon lull around 2 pm. They get packed at lunchtime and there's a lot of love in this food so be happy to wait - it will be worth it. Great selection of craft sodas, iced teas and other non alcoholic beverages.
