This is a great place to buy great artifacts. The people inside are really nice and caring.

The place definitely has some interesting items but if you find something you like, you will be paying handsomely. I'm sure it's not the businesses fault, being that the area around them has exploded along with their rent. If you're in the neighborhood check it out. Can be busy on weekends. read more

Crazy cool antiques store. Antique furniture and vintage clothes and cameras and postcards and typewriters and signs and jewelry and housewares and medical supplies and dolls and masks and lamps and like fucking everyfuckingthing.. My advice- you dig digging through old shit like this, go alone, or only go with someone who digs it just as much as you do, because otherwise they're gonna get bored and drag you out way before you're ready to go. It's pretty easy to completely lose track of time in here. Hours feel like minutes as you stroll through aisle after aisle after aisle, doubling back and back again to make sure you didn't miss anything. Also, leave the kids at home. Today I decided to take my little baby on a stroll down South Congress in the stroller and tried to shop in Uncommon Objects. I was stopped a few feet inside the store by the man behind the counter who said "You can park your stroller behind the counter." I said "but there's a baby in it." I said the last almost jokingly, because of course I'm not going to leave an infant with strangers in a store with no way to see him. The man said "we're not really set up for strollers" but he really seemed to mean "you might steal stuff." So I said "I guess I have to leave then?" "Have a nice day!" was his reply. I will never go in this store again. I have never encountered such inappropriate treatment in this city and especially not because of a sleeping baby in a stroller. read more

We LOVE Uncommon Objects and visit it every time we are in Austin! You can spend hours in there and the items are always changing. You can find items in a variety of price ranges but mostly the items are pricey in my option. True to it's name, there are some fairly uncommon objects in the store which is awesome. Although, I will give this little warning, not everything in the store are antiques or uncommon, some things are just roughed up items that are still sold today. Nonetheless, I love to wonder the shop and get little things to add personality to my home. read more

Always an interesting place to visit, and definitely one of the businesses that make Austin unique. I enjoyed visiting the South Congress location and the new location has a similar layout. There is a wide variety of curious items, taxidermy, medical oddities, old photographs and postcards, kitschy things, retro and antiques. I agree with another review that the parking situation is not ideal - again, most parking in any remotely popular area in Austin is for the birds, but the gravel doesn't help. Definitely worth some time to stop in and check out. read more

This is hands down the most interesting vintage flea market shop I've ever been to. I may look like your typical booth style flea market but as you peruse a bit you'll see it's anything but. This place houses the biggest array of some of the strangest and most fascinating ephemera I've ever seen amassed in one place. Skeletons? Check. Skeleton keys? Check. Old creepy photos? Check. Cool vintage bowler hats? Check. Granny's panties? Check. What I liked best though was the bewitching display of vintage Mason/Shriner? (whatever secret society) cloaks and ritual items. I really wanted the rich velvet cape with the eye of providence on it but it was a bit out of my price range....oh say...$500. That must've been the Grand PooPah's robe. This place is a fun little trip back in time all in an afternoon on South Congress. read more

Since moving away from Austin, I've come to really miss this antique store of eclectic awesomeness. Part of the fun of shopping here is its location on the SoCo strip. You can make a stop at Jo's Coffee, do some window shopping at Therapy, then come here for a little thrift store browsing. I came here for the pretty vintage purses, but this store will also satisfy your craving for old-timey Texas kitsch, 1920s dresses, and cute, retro glassware. You have to sift through the dusty layers, but there are treasures to be found. read more

Never ever contemplated entering this establishment until I was guiding my parents around Austin. We hit soco for a trendy stop. But this place is TOO PRICEY for the bits and baubles they "sell". I saw art, for prices not worth the metal it was created with. A 1910 penny that was set in a pendant then buffed (lost most petina and Value), and ground to sit flat with it setting. That penny alone could be worth a small amount. But altered from a 1940 penny to say 1910, in order increase its value as "Art" is just shameful. I did see some nice antique knives, dangled from cheap artificially "aged" metal chains. The key blade could be worth 50-80$ because of its age. Mid 50s. But its being sold as art by a relatively unknowingly local artist for 3x its value. Some poor schmuck tourist will meander in and absentmindedly buy it thinking he got a deal. He will have, a raw one. Great place to have a look, but if you live here I'm sure Amazing would save you an arm, a leg, or your child's college fund. Save your money. But mosey in and look at the unique items. I will be back with more info, like buying a used car don't be blinded by the bright colors. Look deeper. read more

If you are one of those people who love old things, like me, this will be your heaven. I could spend HOURS in this store. They have everything from furniture, to letters. The price range is Ok, depending on what you buy, but it is likely that some of this stuff is hard to come by. Make sure you've got lots of time and you aren't with people who tend to get anal about time. read more

Oh my god, there were so many things I wished I could collect. Vintage cameras, antique medical things (especially these HUGE awesome anatomy posters I might own one in short future), mid century furniture, and many more. Uncommon Objects is amazing! I love window shopping in general, but especially at antique shops - however I've rarely been in antique stores that are as extensive and well curated and displayed as Uncommon Objects. Our group of friends wandered in at my urging and were delighted at everything we beheld. The staff are amazingly friendly, especially given the constant stream of people entering, wandering through, and exiting. The store layout is such that you walk up the first aisle, poking in and out of the small side areas that sort of have themes to the seemingly random assortment of items, and then wind your way around and back to the main foyer where the majority of jewelry and small accessories are displayed in glass cases. Although photography isn't allowed...that didn't stop us or anyone else (we didn't realize until we left anyway, so oops). It's just too awesome and beautiful in there to not appreciate! Their prices actually seem reasonable for most items (I would expect a hand sewn quilt from 1868 to cost around $650 - or more given how great the quality was), so there's something for every budget. Of course, if you're trying to travel light like we were, animal heads and other more intriguing items aren't a good idea. But it's worth it just to look around. read more

I have never been to one single location that makes me feel the need to own so many things I never knew I needed! Uncommon Objects couldn't have a better name... this place is FULL of the most random vintage "crap", but when I say crap, I mean it in the best possible way of coarse. Although when you first walk in you get a strange feeling of chaos you will soon realize that there is a system to this madness. The entire store is almost set up like a museum with small vignettes everywhere. I am pretty sure that almost everyone on the planet could spend hours in this unique store and I would seriously recommend Uncommon Objects as a first date spot... you could NOT run out of things to talk about. Bottom line... it will force you to all of the sudden need an ancient camera that doesn't work and it might save you from awkward silences... do it, go there, trust me. read more

I love this store. It is a vintage store that feels more like an old school junk shop. The booths are little wonderlands of organized chaos. As an artist, I find lots of inspiration from Uncommon Objects. The downside is that items can be a bit pricey and I tend to stay away on weekends when it's crammed with both objects and people. But if you are in need of a broken baby doll from the 1920s or a beautiful vintage dress or an odd neon lamp -- this is the place to go. read more

I like this place. They have cool stuff. I saw a t-shirt that said 'Remember the Oilers'. This place has alot of things that make you say 'cool' and 'rad' in your 15-year-old voice. Like David Sedaris curated an entire store at Appalachian yard sales. Which means it has neat stuff, especially when put all on the same shelves. Unfortunately it's priced for and by wealthy white people. So it's cool as a museum to stroll through, but if you actually wanna buy 99% of this crap, just go to a Salvation Army in PA. read more

The place is full of fancy knick knacks, doo-hickeys, thingthangs, thisthats, and anything else you can think of. It's a little overpriced if you ask me, probably for the sake of taking advantage of tourism and locale, but you're sure to find some one-of-a-kinds in here. It probably didn't help that we came in on an incredibly busy Saturday afternoon, but it was very much uncomfortably busy. To the point where I was just like a herded cow, following the flow, so I couldn't really stop to look at anything or ponder a bric-a-brac. I love this place. I am partial to antiques, rummaging and strange finds. I bought a beautiful decanter and matching wine glasses here, a set of 4 green glass wine glasses with some suspended bubbles, heavy duty funky glass ashtrays, and a fabulous wooden nut serving bowl with small side bowls and cute little tongs. You certainly do have to look around, but there are hidden treasures. There's a huge classroom size anatomy of the human body poster that I really want for my office, but alas they had it priced at 895$. Too much!! So I will covet it from Dallas. Whenever we are in Austin, I make it a point to drop in and find new goodies. On my last visit Lorde was shopping there too. Haha! Her bodyguard was huge and said no selfies!! read more

This is the neatest little junk shop. I didn't actually buy anything, but enjoyed walking around and digging through some of the odds and ends. The main thing that left an impression on me were the photos. I'm very drawn to people's personal histories, so I was intrigued by the black and white photos piled in litte drawers. So, I really wanted to like this place. Theres about 10 vendors that sell in here. Great stuff. Awesome trinkets. Awesome setup. I can dig for days in here. BUT theyre expensive. Thats the downfall. They have everything but theyre too damn expensive. Theres other stores just like this one in the area but not as organized and theyre a whole lot cheaper. I would say stop by the northloop shops then go here. All in all, the place is awesome but not 4-5 stars awesome. I wouldnt pay 10 dollars for a spinning "top." read more

My family has always had an interest in history and collecting antiques. Some of my earliest memories were of going to estate sales, antique stores, historical homes, and ghost towns! Love this store. We were in The Austin area for the weekend and we stopped in here as we were trying to walk off our amazing dinner. This is a little antique shop. They have a bunch of everything! Everything from old political buttons to antique dolls. Staff was nice as well. It was almost closing time and the place was packed. read more

I could spend hours in this place. Unfortunately I only had an hour. After slowly winding my way through as many different enclaves as I could, looking over the typewriters and books, pictures and letters, and other random assortments, I made my selections: a skeleton key that had heart shaped ivy on the handle, a pocket watch face, and some old scrabble letters. I went up to the counter and was checked out by I believe the manager (someone that was in charge in some capacity) and it was the most pleasant experience I've had in a long time. He was very nice and talked to me for a moment about my items while also ringing me up promptly. I always love going in this shop, but too often I don't actually buy anything. It's always good to know that the service is going to be pleasant if I do, however. read more

I absolutely loved this antique shop!! There are several on the South Congress strip, but this one is by far the very best. Everything is sort of organized ... But in a way that's hard to explain, but makes sense while you're there. They have little "rooms" made up (which are really just spaces filled with room-type stuff) but really give the antiques a beautiful way to be shown. In the front of the store is a jewelry counter which has some really gorgeous items. The rest of the store is where you will find anything ranging from pictures to furniture to knick knacks. I probably spent 1.5 hrs just floating around each section, wondering what story went with the various items. The staff are really great and offer you help when you arrive but they also give you the space to walk around and just observe. I can't go into an antique shop without buying something, so I left with a few gorgeous items which were very reasonably priced. I honestly would have spent hundreds there if I'd had a way to transport everything back home! This shop is a must-see! It is truly a perfect little gem. read more
