Service was quick. Food was delicious, warm homemade rolls with their home made peanut butter spread was complimentary but truly was a foreshadowing for the meal! I ordered the open face roast beef with mashed potatoes with gravy and Mac and cheese-- all delicious. My significant other order the wings-- super crispy and well sauced. Our children got the hot dog and chicken fingers. For dessert we tried the apple dumpling it came out steaming hot with homemade ice cream. We frequent Lancaster but it was our first time hearing about it and experiencing it. It is completely worth any wait! The food was ok - personally the food was too sweet for most of us but we went for the experience. I thought it wasn't anything super different from American food. I think their home made pies are something to try - the crust and crumble on their pies are a little different from typical American style pies - may be a little more dry and crumbly??. I didn't love the crumble but I liked the pie crust, but my husband loved it all. Doesn't hurt to try once but only for the experience.

The shop is located on East Main Street and has parking on both the side and the back. From the outside, I did not expect it to be very large, but the interior ended up being surprisingly spacious. The main area includes the ordering counter along with display cases and a Christmas tree, as it was right before the holiday. The cashier was especially nice to my kids and told us about a play area located in one of the side rooms, which we immediately headed toward. That room could seat around twenty four people and had wood floors along with black metal and dark wood chairs. The real win for us, though, was the kids play area. It was set up like a miniature version of the coffee shop, complete with play food and desserts, which kept our kids happily occupied while we enjoyed our drinks. For my coffee this morning, I went with the Gingerbread House Latte, and my wife chose the same. The coffee was very good. You got a solid coffee flavor up front, followed by a clear gingerbread note, and then it finished with a pleasant sweetness that lingered for a bit without becoming overpowering. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our coffees, and while I did not eat anything myself, my wife enjoyed her berry Nutella croissant and my daughter really liked her parfait.

Our server was really nice and the food was good, but the entrées are extremely overpriced for what you get. My meal was $25 for chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were good and the chicken wasn't bad, just a little tough in some places. I didn't like the mashed potatoes-the texture was gritty and they had way too much butter. My husband had soup, salad, and 1/2 sandwich for $15. Reasonably priced and he liked everything. They have a nice store in the middle of the restaurant and some hand made items. Staff were very friendly. The lady at the front was so personable and chatted with us for a while when we left. Wouldn't go back, but if don't mind paying a bit more than usual, check it out!

It's in a an old train car and it's cozy and has cool touches like old light fixtures and large windows. The service was great both times. The food was better than expected. We were seated at windows both times and everyone enjoyed watching the activity in the nearby Strasburg Railroad trainyard. We saw several locomotives be moved around. We also saw a few Amish go past in their horse and buggies. The highlight for the adults was that they had beer and wine--including their own brewed beer. I enjoyed the Red Caboose Ale and my husband thought the Iron Horse Stoudt was pretty tasty. I tried the Caboose burger and really enjoyed it. The quality of the beef was good, it was done to med-rare as I requested, and the mushrooms were cooked nicely. The fries were also very good. My husband got the shepherd's pie and liked it. They have a menu for 'little engineers' that has many items kids enjoy. Breakfast was equally good and the portions were sizable. Prices were fairly typical for the Lancaster area. Overall, the service, ambiance, and food were worth another visit in our book!

It is the sort of landmark that promises something memorable, or at least something sweet. Inside, the place leans heavily into its role as a stop-off for visitors. Shelves are filled with faux-Amish goods, hex signs, and a cheerful assortment of bric-a-brac, along with shirts that seem very proud of nearby towns with names that invite, shall we say a certain kind of humor. It feels less like a bakery and more like a general store that wandered into a theme. The people working there are genuinely kind, and generous with samples, which is always a wise and welcome strategy. We tried a bit of the shoo fly pie, and in the past we've tried some cookies, root beer, and ice cream. They were all perfectly fine. Pleasant, even. But they did not distinguish themselves from the many other places in Lancaster County offering the same treats with equal or better competence. Nothing here is bad. In fact, it is all quite enjoyable in the moment. But it is not something I would go out of my way for again. Far less so when the tourist busses are around. It is a place you stop at because you are already there, because the windmill caught your eye, because someone offers you a sample and you say yes. Three stars, for doing what it does well enough, in a place where "well enough" is abundant.
