The outside of building I was unimpressed but the inside was cool cute dimly lit restaurant with a cute patio. But the food- WAS AMAZING

When I first walked in, I loved the look of this restaurant and its aesthetic. I ordered the Tex Mex Combo and it was okay, nothing special. The service was slow, but our table didn't mind too much until it was time for us to pay and then things went downhill fast. Our server Isaiah printed an extra ticket and some of our party were missing items so he took all of our tickets back to the kitchen to fix it. I ended up getting charged for my meal twice, and when he attempted to refund my card he refunded a different person at our table. I ended up with 5 different charges on my card and when the manager finally came over, she was no help. She was frustrated with her employee and actually complained to our table about him, which was very unprofessional in my opinion. After almost an hour of attempting to fix the incorrect charges, we still ended up paying full price for our meal and we will not be going back. read more

We had a great experience last Saturday evening. The service was right on. We had a strawberry and a grapefruit margarita which were wonderful. We had the special which was Carnitas. Everyone loved it. The queso disappeared quickly and our waiter was right there with more chips. The table next to us has a chocolate piñata which looked amazing. My enchiladas was very good too. read more

Do not ever go to this location. We made the mistake tonight after the Cardinal game. We understand restaurants are still short staffed but we waited for 1 and 1/2 hour for our food and when it did not come we left. The table next to us waited for over hour and half and the food order was incorrect, the other table next to us had kiddos and waited for two and half hours for food and their ground beef was cold. They are mismanaged completely. read more

Uncle Julio's is a beautiful restaurant, very nice welcoming from the hostess, but my husband and I didn't get past that point. Our visit on a mid-afternoon weekday, an unusually gorgeous St Louis day, was perfect for outside dining. Uncle Julio's appears to have an attractive outdoor seating area, but we were told it isn't open during the day. We thanked the hostess and left. She said she hoped to see us next time. We politely explained we wouldn't be back. We're still in a Pandemic, fully vaccinated, with boosters, but can't yet risk crowds or in door dining. We then drove through the attached parking lot to a restaurant that was serving outdoors. The service there was not great, but we enjoyed our meal, and thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors on the patio. Our server was friendly, and we could see she was clearly assigned too many tasks and roles. The slow service wasn't her fault. It's hard to feel sorry for restaurants like Uncle Julio's who no doubt face the same worker shortages, supply delays and fewer dining guests during the Pandemic. Restaurant management has to acknowledge they are a service industry. Turning afternoon guests away because of a ridiculous outdoor non-seating policy is not good business practice or judgement, anytime, especially during these difficult times. Had we chosen to eat in doors a server would have been assigned. Alternate servers and use management to accommodate outdoor diners. Paying servers a living wage and offering medical benefits might attract more new hires and retain current employees. We don't mind doing our share by over tipping, but guests can't compensate for inadequate employees salaries. All businesses have issues and problems. This problem at least has a relatively easy solution. We wish Uncle Julio's well. We don't need any more businesses closing. More money circulating in our communities will help. Restaurants remembering they are in the service industry is a good step forward. read more

Don't go! Not worth the money or time. Waited 45 minutes for food that I could've got at Chipotle for half the price. Staff and bartender very nice. read more

Food was great!!! We have a group of 8 and they got us in and out. Margaritas were super

Terrible service, average food and way over priced! Won't return! Very disappointing!

Poor service, overpriced food & drink. Go elsewhere!!!! Waited forever to get water, drinks. No tortillas with fajitas. If you want good Mexican this is not the place especially for the price. Not sure how they stay in business . Usually not a poster but felt like I needed to leave a review read more

Just really disappointing in every single way. I hate to complain because I love the location and we WERE compensated. The skeleton staff was apologetic, but I will never eat here again. We ordered the white queso dip and it tasted like melted American cheese. Not tasty. After an hour with no food, we figured the order had never been put in so we flagged someone down (not our original server). When food finally arrived maybe 30 minutes later, it was not worth the wait. The veggie quesadilla was inedible (nearly raw chunks of onion and red pepper with cold cheese on a soggy tortilla). The chicken enchilada was decent tasting but barely warm. We had no drinks (or any service) for an hour after getting that first cocktail and queso. For reference, we were the first table in the bar at 4:30 on "taco Tuesday." The place was absolutely packed by the time we left, with staff running like crazy. Sadly, I don't think they have the ability to accommodate the patrons, or make decent food. read more

Uncle Julio's is my favorite restaurant to go to when visiting family in Texas, so I was thrilled to hear that they were opening up close to home! It was well worth the wait!!! All of the food is DELICIOUS, the drinks are tasty and the staff is so friendly!! The fresh tortillas are YUMMY, and the "yellow" queso is a must try! The salsa reminds me of Chevy's salsa and the chips came out warm, crunchy and salted to perfection!! We will definitely be back and will tell everyone we know to try it! The only downside of this visit was the chocolate piñata wasn't available..hoping that will be back on the menu soon! read more

May 26, 2023 Late lunch for x1 at 4:00PM Parking - Good Staff - VERY Poor! I arrived at 3:30PM for a pickup that should be been picked up at 3:05PM. I intentionally arrived late because the last time I ordered, my order was not cooked in time. Not a big deal, I was closely and enjoy the quesadillas. However, I ordered at 2:30PM, so it should not take and hour for x2 quesadillas. Not only was the bartender very rude, short-sighted, and condescending when I arrived, he LIED about how long it would take, saying only 5-7min. Then he just disappeared for 20min. TWO different people came to ask about my order, when the bartender came back and said, "another driver must have taken it earlier." So, another LIE. But I understand, they were intentionally NOT making my order and were rude because they thought I was an Uber Eats driver. I laughed, realizing why they were being rude, told them to cancel my order, and the bartender looked shocked. I was an "individual" who was picking up their own order, instead of a delivery driver. x5secs later, someone brought out my order, with a side of salsa that was nearly FROZEN. Then they said it was "always like that," although I have NEVER had it be that way before. I began to wonder if their entire staff were just LIARS. The manager came out, comped my order, but I decided that this would be my LAST time going to Uncle Julio's in Frontenac, MO. The food is good, but they have TERRIBLE staff, who have very little awareness of proper customer service. There are a few that have been nice, but they are rarely seen. I am a forgiving person, who would ignore a single incident, but I have noticed their [again] intentional neglect of customers and rude behavior. Oh yeah, and May 26th is my birthday, so the poor service felt like even more of a slap in the face. read more

The food was good, but I ordered a grapefruit margarita and when I noticed there was a gnat in it, I told the waitress and she just looked at me. I don't know whether she understood me or not. She didn't offer another one or to take it off of my bill. I was very disappointed. Other than that, it was ok. I think they should offer a thicker salsa with the chips. read more

Drink bag with our much awaited margarita broke. Beans and rice were forgotten and they're parts of the meal we love. Took 30 minutes for a carry out order we made three hours prior. read more

I've wanted to try Uncle Julio's for some time but I should have read the reviews first. It took forever for a server to come to our table. Our food was timely but nothing special for the high $$$ pricing. We were there for lunch and just had soft drinks. Don't ask for soft drinks to go because they don't do that. It's an Industry standard that soft drinks are available to go. You can do better than this. read more

why doesn't anyone clear the dishes off of your table? every table had dirty dishes on it it was the weirdest thing! (and not an appealing sight to customers). food was a little pricy for what it was. my chicken was the toughest I've ever had at a restaurant...could barely get it chewed up. won't be back read more

Their margaritas are to die for! Great service and a fun experience to see the food be made/ingredients in the kitchen.

My fiancée and I wanted to have a date night and came across this place on Yelp. Didn't look at any reviews. We were very impressed. Food was perfectly seasoned. Service was great. Prices were fair. Everything was so fresh. Steak was tender. We will definitely come back! Can't wait to try the margaritas. read more

I was so disappointed. The food was very flat, no spice. The service was good. The atmosphere was good. The food sucked. Sorry!!'

Ole! This place is INSANELY delicious. Certain elements - particularly the cheese and onion enchiladas - remind me of Chuy's from Dogtown (R.I.P.). Salsa and chips were perfect. Guacamole was freshly made and delicious. The tortillas are made in house, too! Two things, hands down, were outta sight. The flavor on the carne asada and the Mexican brown butter we dipped the bacon wrapped shrimp in. Yowza! Excellent service all around. We're definitely coming back!! read more

Shit service took waiter an hour to bring our sodas to the table had to ask the dude when he broght out the food because the girl came to our table not even on time. Not worth the money at all. read more

Went here for the first time last night. I got the chicken & steak fajitas & they were the best I've ever had, the chips & salsa were good, too. My husband got the carnita tacos. They were good too, except there was more on there than the menu said: onions & avocado, which he doesn't like. They brought us a dirty glass, which took a while to replace & brought the wrong side out for my husband's order. The patio was great. This could have been my new go-to place but at the end of the meal, our server brought the bill, which was like a tablet that you fill out. Instead of leaving it on the table for us to fill out, he hovered the entire time. The option asks you if you want to leave 20% & if you don't, you have to subtract it, which he had to right in front of our nice, but hovering server. Based on the food, I'll likely give this place another try in the future, but I'm hoping that someone will talk to the staff about their hovering employees. Had everything gone well, the server would have received 20% or more, but it was far from a perfect experience. read more

We were sat over an hour ago, and still do not have our food. Had we been sat in the dining room with music and an upbeat atmosphere, I would not mind. Instead, we were sat in a cold back room with NO atmosphere whatsoever. I tried to choose a location that would be fun for my three teenagers and apparently, I failed. I gave it three stars because the salsa was tasty. ‍ read more

We have been to uncle Julio's 4 times now. Each time has been terrible. The first time we went, our server was so odd we complained to corporate (never heard anything from them btw). She kept coming over to the table to tell us she couldn't serve my brother (he's 26 years old) any more drinks after he had ONE margarita. He kept asking for a beer or another drink and she would bring the whole table drinks except him. It was SO odd. (He was not drunk at all or acting inebriated). 2nd time it took over an hour for food (which was honestly terrible, but this was our best experience and that's not saying a lot). Our last (and final) experience was also less than fabulous. Our server took a long time to get drinks and food ordered. Then when we finally did order, every table around us got their food before us (even though we ordered before them). It took an hour and a half to get food. They brought out one entree first, then everyone else sat entree-less for 30 minutes. Our server never apologized for how long it took and kept avoiding coming back to our table. (We are all industry people and know things happen, but I hate to keep supporting this business when they don't seem to care how terrible things are). Also, our check was almost $300 for a mediocre meal and terrible service. read more

We weren't able to eat there because of the wait. We wanted an outside table. There were several tables outside open but the hostess explained that they were reserved which is understandable. We decided to make a reservation for an outside table at a future date. However, on-line you can only reserve inside tables and if you call, you are instructed to make your reservation on-line. So it's confusing how people were able to reserve outside tables. ??? read more

Food was fair. No real flavor to combination steak & chicken nachos, which were 3 taco shells broken in half with small amount of melted cheese & cubed chicken & cubed steak. About one tablespoon of guacamole, one table spoon of pico, & 2 table spoons of fresh greens. Sangria had good flavor; however, was not served with fruit & when asked server, was provided a small strawberry & lime wedge. Chips were cold & salsa was flavorless. Frozen margarita was ok. Will try dining room service only & skip the bar service to determine if Uncle Julio's deserve their nation wide reputation of good food & service. read more

This is my very favorite Mexican restaurant.... Started going in FL and TX... and now it's here in St. Louis!!!! Always fresh food and table side guacamole.... the chips are amazing. If you are bored with all the regular take out places.... give yourself a treat. read more

We had a reservation but still had to wait about twenty minutes. We were given chips and salsa immediately and our server greeted us right away. We did not order drinks. We order the chicken and steak fajitas for two. The meat was hot, tender and juicy with a tad bit of char broil on top. It was very good. Fajitas came with warm tortillas, rice and beans, and guacamole, shredded cheeses, sour cream and a tomato salsa. Our server checked on us multiple times, as well as what we assume was a manager. The reason for four stars was our wait, the plates were really small and husbands napkin was dirty. read more

We had dinner reservations for 2 people but had a 10-15 minute wait. Once seated we were greeted by our waitress and drink orders taken. Chips and salsa and water cups brought right away but our drinks took more than 10 minutes. Then we waited another 10 minutes to place our food order. Then our food took a good 30 minutes to arrive. We had ordered a chicken quesadilla and chicken fajita bowl. We made the mistake of ordering dessert that took another 20 minutes. The server kept telling us how the kitchen was slow and screwing her over. Our glasses went empty several times and we had to flag her down for refills. The food itself was fine but unimpressive, your average Tex-Mex. Overall extremely slow, inattentive service for food you can find anywhere. There are better places in the StL area to spend your money! read more

Fabulous lunch at Uncle Julio's today! My husband had their signature Carne Asada and proclaimed it outstanding. The hot platter and sizzling veggies under the steak kept everything hot and wonderful. My friend had the chicken Tortilla Bowl and loved it (and had enough leftovers for another meal). I tried the fish tacos which were also wonderful. The house made guac was the best I've ever had. Service was outstanding, even as busy as they were. (Our server was from Texas, adding to the ambience.) The manager, Jason Padilla, stopped by our table to ensure that we were being well taken care of along with the front of house manager. It was too early in the day for us to try their margaritas and sangria margarita, but that just gives me an excuse to go back for dinner! Definitely an excellent choice and a place we'll go back to often read more

We had a reservation for 7:00 PM and got seated at 7:25. Very slow service from drinks to dinner order. Did not receive food until 8:45, food was lukewarm at best. Extremely disappointing for a regular night out let alone our mom's 69th birthday celebration. We won't be back. read more

They need a lot of management help. The bar tenders and hostess are constantly weeded with no direction and no help. This is the 2nd time we could not get a drink and did not get seated within 45 min of our reservation. We will likely not give them a 3rd try. read more

When eating in the food is good. We went to Uncle Julios often when we lived in another city, and since they opened here we have gone or carried out often. The last three carry out orders had issues (forgotten food, cold food, extremely delayed order up to 40 minutes). We recently tried carry out again after a long break and they forgot one of three orders and gave us the wrong accompaniment to one of the meals (taco shell instead of chips). The staff is really nice but by the time we got the rest of our order and got home less than 5 minutes away, the other two meals were cold and the crunchy taco shell totally disintegrated. They used to pack taco ingredients separately so this was not a problem. PLEASE fix these problems because we did enjoy eating there before these errors started. read more

The food was excellent; however, the service by Tabitha was awful. Unfortunately, she did not show any type of initiative; she had to be asked for everything (filling water, refilling chips and salsa, etc.) Drinks from the bar took an extended period of time, would of had more drinks but it just simply took too long. read more

Service was very good; however, we did not get our appetizer, our food order was wrong, the food was lacking flavor and certainly was not the quality for the price. It took over 30 minutes to get the check despite having to ask for it twice. Eventually got the manager to get it for me. The bar tenders gave me zero acknowledgement during my 2hr visit there. This is the third time we've come to this restaurant - the service has declined each and every time. They are always out of some ingredients that is on their menu, and they need to replace one thing for another. This is a Mexican restaurant how can you be out of lime or mint? We've been sitting here for one hour and we still don't have our drinks. What gives? We have decided we will never be back here again. How can you call yourself a restaurant manager if you can't order your ingredients or schedule your servers enough to accommodate your service and your clients. read more

Was just at cousin Julio's for lunch today. Don't think we will ever be back. First of all we were seated in a room that was boiling hot! We had to ask to have the heat turned down and a window opened , it was so uncomfortable. We then waited 5 minutes before our server appeared to take drink orders. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and my friends each Ordered beers. I was told they did not have lemonade and had been out for several days. ( this was at lunch time). My friends waited over 20 minutes to get their beers and had to ask the server about it. We then waited over an hour for our meal! We ordered 3 different kinds of tacos, not an unusual order. Normally Mexican restaurants are very quick with a food order, this was ridiculous. Restaurant was not crowded at all. No one bothered to explain why our meal was taking so long. If we had known, we would not have stayed. Once our meal arrived I found the fish tacos soggy, shells were limp. Our meals included a side of rice and beans, but the sides were not consistent. One person received black beans and two received pinto beans. We were not asked our preference. This place is definitely not worth returning to. read more
