This is the most expensive and worst Mexican food I have ever had. The building is adorable so maybe go for drinks and chips and salsa. But skip the food. My carnitas were so bad I can't even believe it. Qdoba is better! read more

Service was terrible, no one was working, food was cold. Not a table in our whole section was bussed all while several employees seemed to be standing around doing nothing. No leadership in restaurant seems to be taking this place down hill fast. Won't be returning anytime soon, food isn't that good to begin with and when coupled with bad service won't be good for the future of this pace. Get it together! read more

called in an order 7 min wait to place order took an hour to get one order of nachos. they were not busy. there were cock roaches in the corners. no management around, this place doesn't seem to care. a real bummer read more

They have a new fall menu that I got to try out. Food is amazing fresh from scratch. You can really taste the difference. Cranberry apple margarita is so so yummy. Beautiful very well put together restaurant and the service is much improved. read more

First and most important, the waiters were amazing WITH what they had to work with I applaud them!! Now... we waited 40 minutes for a reservation we booked a day in advanced, we had no silverware we ate with plastic take out utensils again not the waiters fault... what ruined the eve was the maitre d' yelling at a waitress in front of our table. Completely unacceptable. Disappointed indeed... read more

Beautiful looking restaurant and great location but service and food were very bad. It is very apparent that the servers are not really trained well. Sat down for lunch with my family and it took about 8 minutes before we were asked if we wanted drinks. Waitress disappeared for another 5 minutes and then came back with our drinks so we decided to order. I got the chicken fajitas. I did not see the server for 20 minutes until the order came. First they set down my sizzling fajitas. 5 minutes later my tortillas arrived and the fajitas were cold by this time. 5 minutes later came the cheese sour cream and guacamole. I was livid. Everything was cold. Refried beans were terrible and rice was also cold. You would think that they had never served a fajita meal. I've had much better meals at Taco Bell. To recap, nice looking restaurant with terrible food and service. Servers not trained properly and it was a crappy experience. I will not be going back. read more

First time here and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. Friendly staff and good service. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. My litmus test is usually the chips and salsa. The chips were light and crispy but the salsa was spicy yet flavorless, lacking any fresh tastiness. I couldn't eat it. We might be guacamole snobs because we like to make our own but there's had too much garlic or onion. Hard to tell. Our party of four was underwhelmed with their meals.. not finishing them for their lack of flavor. We love Mexican food and had heard this was a good place but will not be returning. It's easy to get better tasting fare at a more reasonable price elsewhere. Again, everyone was very kind and helpful, but that's not enough. read more

Awful service and food. Everything is over salted and good luck get a server to assist . Worst experience in our travels to St Louis . Don't waste your money here read more

Uncle Julio's is a great fine Mexican restaurant in STL. The service is great and the food is delicious. I enjoy their monthly drink.

Such bad service; Management really needs to notice. Food ok but how do you not get served their homemade tortillas when you order fajitas!? Not our young servers fault; clearly not much training or help from Manager who had his head shoved in his seating chart. SO many better choices for Mex food than this. read more

I graced an Uncle Julio's in Chicago and enjoyed it very much. When I was driving down Lindbergh and saw it, I had to do a turn around. I'm glad I did. The chips and salsa were excellent but the Barbacoa Fajitas were exquisite. I brought some home to my husband and he can't wait to go read more

Location is great. Building looks great. This is our third try as we live close and love Tex Mex. Service has been slow and servers did not seem to care. Ordered carry out via the app tonight and food was 30+ minutes past promised time. Food was decent but not worth putting up with service issues. read more

The service was horrible. Waited 45 mins for my lunch. I do not recommend this place.

Went mid week in the afternoon. Upscale and had a nice bar. We got the shrimp and chicken fajitas.. delicious! Queso is a must have and the salsa was great. Peach marg was good too. Received excellent service as well. No complaints here although is pricier read more

Nice ambience and a good amount of seating. We had reservations and were seated immediately with a party of 9. The food was all good including queso and guacamole. Chips are nice and thin but lacking salt. Roasted Salsa is also lacking salt. The swirl drink was good for happy hour price but I wouldn't pay full price. Original margarita tasted good but seemed to be very light on tequila. Nothing was extraordinary and would have us thinking about coming back again but nothing was bad either. The service was very slow- not sure if it was slowness in the kitchen/bar or our server. But everything took 20-30 minutes to get including chips for our guacamole and queso. All in all not a terrible experience but definitely overpriced for what it is. read more

Upscaled Taco Barf. Uncle Julio needs to run down to the school yard and learn some cooking skills. Someone forgot to season or add taste to our meals. Ordered curbside pickup only to have two confused servers eventually walk out and inform us our food would be ready in 10 minutes, which was 10 minutes after our requested pickup time. With that news my wife decided to brave the semi-maskless gauntlet of people to use the restroom. Food arrived while she was away In a greasy plastic bag, perhaps more serving gloves need to be handed to the staff more frequently. After arriving home excited for food, I open a container with dry flavorless rice, two semi warm cheese and onion enchiladas that were rather rigid from either sitting under the warning lamp too long or ??? My wife's beef enchilada tasted as though UJ poured a Lawry's taco seasoning packet into it, three bites later she gave up. The chicken enchilada was almost as flavorful, but poorly shredded and full of bones... the beans were good... Needless to say, we will NOT be rushing back. I'll be going to King Burrito on Midland instead... read more

Food was okay but service was horrible. Late food, and drinks not ordered will prevent us from ever returning.

Food & drinks were great, service was okay will return as I left very satisfied! Get the grapefruit marg & chx fajitas

Went here on a Friday evening for my birthday and this was such a major disappointment. First issue was the chips and salsa. The salsa is so bland and runny, worst restaurant salsa I have ever had. Nobody at my table even wanted to eat it and there were no other options except a hotter version of the exact same runny bland salsa. Secondly, our sever had a horrible attitude as if she did not want to be working. When she came to the table she immediately said something regarding our infant being at the head of the table in the way. No pleasant or friendly greeting at all. The cocktail menu is underwhelming and disappointing for the premium price. I expected more creativity or different options for drinks that ranged between $12-$16 but sadly they were all just basic boring margaritas at the end of the day. The food is very bland and boring, definitely not worth the price they are charging for this junk. I ordered the carnitas tacos and they were so dry and flavorless. I had to pour the runny bland salsa on them just to get them down. They definitely needed a sauce of some sort and again very overpriced. The sever tending to the table next to us dropped a plate of food and glass shattered everywhere hitting my husband and I and the best part is NO ONE ever came to sweep up the mess at all. The food from that spill sat on the floor right next to my husbands seat the entire time we were there, perfect for someone to slip and fall on. We told the busser about the mess and glass on the floor and he just said "okay" but never got it up or alerted anyone. Our sever never came back and checked on us throughout our meal. We had to flag down other servers to get her attention and it took us forever to find anyone to get the check so we could pay and leave. I can't stress enough how horrible our severs attitude was. This was supposed to be for my birthday and I never got a simple happy birthday, a smile, a dessert, and acknowledgment, NOTHING. I felt so bad that my in laws wasted so much money on this place. Also, they don't even have to go cups. My mother in law ordered iced tea and wanted to take it to go but she was told she couldn't because they don't carry to go cups...complete failure read more

Nice to have a Mexican restaurant that doesn't specialize in white cheese dip and quesadillas. That seems to be the taste for people in this town. The carne asada is excellent. I'm not a fan of charro beans, but they will happily sub refried beans if you ask. They also have a habanero salsa upon request. The salsa is a bit mild for my taste, but mix in some of the habanero and it is great. The margaritas are great, chips are nice and thin. Love this place!!! read more

The food and atmosphere is amazing! Great food and service! Ask for Louis when you go!

My friend was telling me he wanted me to try this spot out, so me and him decided to give it a go together! I had the chicken and steak fajitas w upgraded $2 more for the filet steak I was told it was more tender so I went for it! My food came out and it bland in taste but worst of all 3-4 slices of chicken and 3/4 slices of sm steak w barley any onions and peppers! I had asked the manager for some more steak and he did bring it out so I do appreciate that part but still was lacking on flavor and chicken was skimpy as well! The chips and salsa were good but I found that the salsa was to Smokey for my liking! Overall Ill give it another try just hope the portions and flavors are better next time read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant and unfortunately was disappointed. The atmosphere is incredible but the food, service and margaritas were disappointing. The spicy margarita was pretty good but the regular margaritas were not very good. Aside from the chips (which were really good), the food was honestly some of the worst Tex-mex I've ever had - the quesadilla was equivalent to a microwaved dinner. The queso was like a bad Rotel dip. The beef tacos were so salty and the shells didn't even seem cooked. Regret to say I wouldn't recommend beyond a happy hour drink unless they turn things around. read more

Enchilada el Gum Zero stars and I wont ever be back for food! First time ever patronizing Uncle Julio's Frontenac on 9/28/2022. Started out like a normal business dinner with my boss and 2 coworkers. We each ordered, I had bariatric surgery last year so I can't eat a full meal as it is not physically possible. About 4 bites into my one single cheese enchilada with a side of sour cream, I noticed my bite was so chewy and not breaking down like it should. I, thinking it was over cooked cheese, and as I pulled it out of my mouth and realized it was CHEWED GUM!! Not my gum, mind you!! I alerted the waiter and he checked out the gum on the plate, again, not my gum I pulled OUT OF MY BITE IN MY MOUTH!!! waiter took plate to the kitchen and came back to see if there was anything else he could offer me. Couple things here, I am so grateful for the customer service, Joe the waiter was great. But I just pulled SOMEONE ELSES CHEWED GUM out of MY MOUTH in a bite of cheese enchilada!! NO, I don't want another thing from that kitchen! Hospitality manager came to talk to us and asked me to replay the story to him. He was speechless! Now, I'm at a business dinner and trying to keep composure, not make a scene and deal with this traumatic incident tactfully in FRONTENAC, MO... Again I was offered food. No thank you. I don't even want my lemonade refilled from this place. The manager took $25 off of our $86 dollar bill. In that moment my party was so appalled and beside ourselves we didn't know what to even do. I was still trying to not throw up the enchilada el gum on the table and no one else was eating either. Night ruined. Fast forward to 9/29/2022. Talking with boss we were still so grossed out!! Covid, flu, cold, herpes cold sores, hepatitis!! I don't know where that gum was before my mouth!! So we called and they were so gracious to comp the rest of the food. Not the drinks, and we still paid tax and tip. Should I need antibiotics this be have a much different ending. But for now, rest assured, there will be no gum chewing in the kitchen from now on. Well good, me and about 20 other regular dining coworkers will never be back! Good job Uncle Julio.... read more

Omg, I had high hopes for my lunch on today. I was very disappointed with the service and the food. Bland food no flavor at all. Slow server standing around and not working. Never again. read more

I have been to many Uncle Julio's in different states and this one is absolutely the worst. We went when they first opened and the floors were filthy, the bathrooms were gross with a soap dispenser laying on the sinks. The food was cold and stale. Was really disappointed with our last visit. The chicken enchiladas were totally bland, the beans under seasoned, and we had large globs of dried out rice. The last two times we have gone we have been very disappointed. Only saving grace was the margaritas. Probably won't be returning. read more

I had been anticipating going to Uncle Julio's since I had been to the one in Fort Worth Texas many years ago. Once I tried the swirl, I was hooked and always wanted to have a location in St Louis. Imagine my excitement when I found out there was a new location in Frontenac. Not being ready to dine in, I ordered takeout. I thought I would share my enjoyment with my mother and ordered the fajitas for two. I will say, when I arrived, the food was ready, the atmosphere was comforting and very inviting. Well, I made it to my destination and was ready to dive in. The food was very well packed BUT, that's where the excitement ended. I opened the fajitas ($39) and immediately thought there had to be another container because the serving definitely was not enough for two people and besides, it was mostly onions and a couple of pieces of peppers. Now, you would think with fajitas, you always get a plate full so, I called the restaurant and was told, nothing had been left out, the meat is weighed and I had two six ounce pieces ($39). Ok, so I take out everything else which I had two of. The Mexican rice was fair and was not authentic as far as I could tell. I loved the beans which had a western flavor. I loved the thin tortilla chips. I would have liked the roasted salsa have a little more flavor. I have to admit, I got a frozen swirl and a frozen margarita to go which were $5 and I think that was a bargain. I would have enjoyed them more it I had purchased them at a dine in experience. Overall, a very nice place. The food is more of a chain type fare. If you want authentic, stick to your local Mexican restaurants. If you want a fancy atmosphere and a place to hangout, this is your place. I would definitely recommend and would probably meet friends there after work but for real Mexican and strong margaritas, I'm sticking with places like Chimi's and Las Fuentes where my doggie bags are another meal. I'm giving 3 stars because of the prices and the serving size. read more

The inside was nice, but the food was horrible and extremely overpriced. I ordered the tacos which came in a stale hard shell, wilted lettuce and some tomatoes, that's all. Would not recommend! The guac appetizer is expensive, salty and very underwhelming. The chips aren't fresh either read more

The only reason for the two stars is because the Fajitas are good, however the service is not! I brought in two other families with us, the drinks took at least 20 mins after reminding them and the food almost an hour at least, but the Fajitas came first then the other items, but no Tortillas for a while which made no sense. My son's enchiladas were cold so they had to take them back to reheat them. I understand that restaurants and businesses are experiencing shortages, however, this was between 3:30 and 4:30 pm on a Sunday when it was very slow and there seem to be plenty of people working yet no manager in site. The other thing is that every time you call, they don't answer the phone and the system asks you to leave a message to be contacted a day later. This is really a bad idea for a restaurant when the last 3 times I've been there, the two hostesses that stand upfront don't do anything the whole time, they hardly help, they could be easily answering the phone and helping out. We were very disappointed! read more

Wow, service can really make or break a restaurant. The service here was terrible and broke it. Having been a waitress/bartender for years, I'm petty lack about service ( I understand what juggling customers food and clean up is like) . We had 6pm reservation on Sunday so it wasn't busy. After chatting for about 10 min my partner ordered fresh guacamole 40-45 min later we get guacamole. While waiting we have to ask for napkins (hands us bar napkins) small plates, and silverware(wrapped in a napkin). We also have Ask about the guacamole (which she clearly forgot) we order food during this long wait. My friend orders appetizer of shrimp. Waitress (Dahlia) ask if we know what we want to eat. So we order dinner shrimp salad and fish tacos for me. She really enjoyed the salad my tacos were fine nothing special. Her appetizer turns in to a side. Maybe if out server wrote our orders down the food would have been on time and right. Two hours I never got my water refilled (that's all I was drinking) in the meantime I keep looking for a manager to walk by, I want to say something. At no point do I ever see someone who remotely looks/moves like a manager. Worst service I've experience in years, years like 10+ years. read more

There's been lots of buzz around St. Louis since Uncle Julio's opened here a while back. I had high hopes for a tasty Tex-Mex meal. Sadly the predominant word that comes to mind is disappointing. While I enjoyed my sangria I found virtually all of the food bland. From the chips and salsa to the bowl with grilled steak everything was a big, tasteless yawn. They do have a nice patio where dogs are welcome. I just wish I cared enough to return. read more
