It gets super crowded! Beautifully decorated: you can watch the tortillas being made! Our server and his service were excellent-no complaints there. We both had flavored lemonades, which were perfect. We tried the tableside guac and it was WONDERFUL. The chips kept coming-never had to ask. Fajitas are their specialty. We ordered the vegetarian version: which was reportedly delicious : I had the skirt steak -- melted in your mouth. Freshly made flour tortillas to die for. Portion sizes could be better. All we took home were guac/chips. I could have eaten more steak in a heartbeat! No dessert, though the Chocolate Pinatas were awesome looking: :a chocolate hollow egg filled with strawberries, mini churros, and mini donuts with whipped cream. $25/35. A bit steep-served 4 though. Limited other dessert options. My reason for 4 stars??? PRICE. The total w 20% tip for 2 people= $80! No burritos on the menu. Other choice besides fajitas, but not as many as traditional Mexican restaurants. Very upscale. Would I go back... maybe. Margaritas looked awesome, but at $18... not so much. Great for a treat, but not a go-to place. Families were there---hope they brought plastic! P.S. Beans were way to spicy and rice too peppery. read more

Is this place a little more expensive than your average Fajita/Tex-Mex place? Sure. But it's one of the best I've ever been to. The quality is there to justify the price. Entrees are about 20 bucks and they are fair portions. Everything we had was good to great. Our server Shawn made some great recommendations and was great enough to push this into 5 star territory. Try the carne asada. It was fantastic. Thanks Shawn! read more

If a restaurant is going to be open they should be prepared to have things such as lemon, common wine, which they actually had none whatsoever. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a fajita steak bowl and the rice was so ungodly dry in there I could've choked on it. My husband's dinner was horrible as well, and the waiter was sad at best. Our total bill was well over $50. I would've rather spent $10 at Taco Bell read more

Each and every time I have visited this location it's been absolutely fabulous! Excellent staff! Excellent food!

I was not impressed. The food was not good & was very salty. I think it's very overpriced for Mexican food.

Food was great but staff was not helpful. We brought in our handicapped brother and had a hard time getting into the building. 3 young staff working at the hostess desk did not help with getting him in the door but instead stared and laughed at him. When my mother confronted the 3 young ladies they laughed at her then. I would suggest training your hostess staff to be courteous and helpful to handicapped guests that come into the establishment. read more

Two friends and I were able to go to the soft opening of Uncle Julios in Brookfield. Yes, servers will still in training, but overall, the experience and food were very good. The new building is quite large with a U-shaped bar and high top tables as you walk in. Two patio areas complete with heaters and small fire pits flank the main entrance which will be great in warmer weather. We were greeted right away and led to our table. Very good (albeit super thin) homemade chips and salsa were brought to our table right away. Salsa was good with a little heat and definitely different (and better) than the normal bright red and somewhat sweet salsa at other Mexican restaurants. Everything is made from scratch (they claim) and the kitchen is a wide open space, so you can see what is going on at any time. Also to the left of the open space is the famous "tortilla machine" which makes and spits out fresh, soft flour tortillas which is cool to watch. Margaritas (the classic with Patron and fresh lime juice) were very good and they have a decent beer selection as well. Guacamole was made tableside with the server asking about our preferences for heat. It contained all the normal ingredients and all looked to be very fresh. The actual guacamole was very good. The only issue is that the chips were way too thin to stand up to the thickness of the guac, so many chips were "sacrificed" before we learned the technique of spooning the guac onto the chips versus attempting to dip the chip. Felt way too fancy to have to spoon it onto each chip! We did a plate of the chicken and pork tamales. They were very fresh with good flavor and came with their own sauce which gave them a little heat. We tried the steak and chicken fajitas, Juanitas Platter, and the Cordoba Chicken Platter as our entrees. The fajitas offered very good and substantial cuts of chicken and steak, compared to other spots where you have smaller strips of meat. One issue was that they put the serving bowl of cold fajita toppings (shredded cheese, sour cream, etc.) on the actual metal fajita plate that contained the steak, chicken, and grilled vegetables. That heated up the cold ingredients and probably should be served to the side to keep them cold. Fresh tortillas (from the "machine") came with the fajitas and were fresh and very good. Juanitas Platter consisted of a beef enchilada with queso type sauce, a chicken enchilada with a chile sauce, a hard shell beef taco, and a pork tamale with red sauce. All were very good with the hard taco actually being the highlight with a warm, crispy, bubbly shell that put most others to shame. Meat in all were flavorful and sauces were fine, although none really stood out. The Chicken Cordoba Platter had two chicken enchiladas red sauce, a chicken enchilada with chile sauce, hard shell chicken taco and a chicken tamale with chile sauce. All were very good. The tamale was served "naked" without its corn husk to allow for the sauce. Would have preferred to unwarp it myself and add the sauce after it was served, but small nit pick. Other items had a good amount of meat, and the taco and shell were very good as well. The side of beans served with each entree had very good flavor with a mix of beans. The rice was the letdown as some was undercooked and/or older and actually a bit crunchy without a ton of flavor. With the flavors of the dishes, could have used a bit more of something to make the rice stand out. For a new spot with servers in training, service was very good. A few "new person" items that servers had to check on such as the local craft beer selection (which hadn't been lined up yet), but things like that will be fine by the opening in a few short days. Our server, Marko was attentive, checked back in on us regularly, and very personable. Julio also has invested in the latest technology. When it was time to pay our check, everything is electronic with your check folio on a small screen, allowing you to swipe or insert your credit card and using the touchscreen to tip and sign. Very slick and easy to do and nice to keep your credit card with you as well without paper receipts flying around. Not sure how they handle cash, but liked the electronic folio system. Having been to other restaurants in the chain in Chicagoland and Atlanta, the Brookfield location, being new, was much nicer with a better overall vibe, very good food, and great service (even for a soft open). With a very good location right along Moorland Rd, I think Uncle Julios will be a hit with many and will give some other nearby spots (are you listening Bel Air Cantina and Blue Sombrero) a run for their money. read more

The worst Mexican food ever. Service was terrible, the food runner slammed our food on the table. My friend's chicken was undercooked and pink. The margarita also subpar. The quesadilla was not worth $16. Feel nauseous after eating the food. Will not be back. read more

This place is very over priced for mediocre tasting food. The highlights were the chips, salsa, and margaritas. However thecmargaritad are pricey for the size. We ordered sizzling shrimp fajitas, the shrimp tasted like the gas from the grill, we did like the garlic butter sauce and homade flour tortillas. We also ordered a lunch combo plate, wasnt horrible but not real memorable either. The third item was the queso and guac combo, the guac lacked seasoning. Not sure we would run back here. read more

Good food, but service still has a few things to work out. Ten of us visited just about a month after their grand opening. We had reservations for 6 pm, and we were seated at 6:15 which was good considering the size of our party. Chips and salsa were delivered to the table very soon after we were seated, and our 2 waiters came and introduced themselves and said they would be back shortly to get our drink orders. Fifteen minutes later, they came back for drink orders, and the chip guy brought more chips. It took a while for the drinks to come, maybe 10-12 minutes, but it took even longer for the waiters to come back for our food orders. We all finally finished ordering at about 6:50 pm. It took until almost 7:30 before our food came, luckily the chip guy came around a third time, but I wish the waiter would have come around again to see if anyone wanted a second drink. I had ordered an appetizer, but it did not come out ahead of time, it came out with the meal. Five of us got our meals together, and then about 5 minutes later the rest of us got our meals. Once the food came, everything was fine. We all loved our choices. The food was fresh, nicely presented, very tasty, and quite large portions. The cost was a little high, but not too bad. I like to watch my calories, and there were many good choices on the menu. I am going to wait a few months until they get the serving kinks worked out (or maybe get up to full staff), and then I will go back. The food was really good. read more

Went with a group of 13 , food was fresh and average , waitress didn't separate the bills , took 30 minutes to get bill corrected , won't be back . Sorry uncle read more

The food is average. With no flavor. It's over priced for the small portion size. Service is really slow read more

Uncle Julio's Brookfield - Mexican Near Me - Brookfield, Wisconsin

This is a crazy busy restaurant - but we've never had to wait too long to sit and the service seems to always be good (as is the food). They have great Margaritas and so many dishes to choose from. There is a lot of variety, a little on the pricey side for Mexican Cuisine but its worth it. read more

This restaurant had great service but the food was misleading. Not authentic Mexican. It was more of an upscale Spanish flavor. I am giving it 2 stars because I was really in the mood for Mexican food. Food that was spicy, flavorful, and loaded with cilantro, oregano, onions and chili powder. The salsa was bland... no kick. I expected refried beans and instead got something that looked and tasted like pork and beans you get at a barbecue. The Spanish rice was over cooked and tasted more like colored fried rice. This is not meant to downgrade the restaurant but educate future patrons of what to expect. The venue was good. The bar options looked appealing and it was crowded on a Tuesday night so it must please its patrons. This out of towner was truly disappointed. read more

We went to Uncle Julio's twice, first time it was great, my steak fajitas were cooked perfectly and not fatty. The second time was pretty terrible, I ordered steak/chicken combo fajitas, they steak was all fat, and my chicken had a bone in it where I had to spit it into my napkin. To top it off the waitress charged me for just the steak fajitas so she actually charged me more than I should have paid for the combo, we paid it because she never came back to the table after she handed us the bill (you pay with an automatic credit card system they hand to you). Hopefully they work out their flaws. read more

Clearly, it's a clean, classy place. The staff was great with our energetic one-year-old. However, it's a really long wait without a reservation. With all the great Mexican food in the MKE area, I'm not sure we will go back. Pretty pricey and no mole on the menu, unfortunately. read more

Nice looking place. Been to uncle Julio's about 5 times. Every time it seems there has been less focus on the food and pushing drinks. The previous visit I was charged for two drinks I did not order. It was the table next to mine drinks. I called and they said they would reverse the charges. Never saw that on my charge card statement. Most recent visit this week for lunch. Not very busy like it has been. I ordered carnitas tacos and the meat was crunchy. Like I was eating chips. Flavorful but not how they should have been. The beans were like they have been sitting in a warmer for hours. Dried out. The rice was good. My co worker order the fajitas and she said they were not the same as last time. Need to focus on the food. Probably won't be back for a while if at all. So many other places. Very disappointing. read more

Food was good, drinks were better. Salsa was very good and chips were fresh. Their desserts are great. Atmosphere was very nice. Nice to be outside by the fire with a drink in hand. I gave 4 rather than 5 stars because of price. Prices were a bit high because of this I would not go regularly. read more

We just went back to Uncle Julio's and the issue was the server. We paid with credit card and he ran the card on the table side machine. When we inquired about the tip, he said it was automatically included. We were like you automatically include a tip on party of 2? He said yes all you do is just sign. So my fiancé signed and got the receipt. The server was somehow getting a 12.00 tip on a 50.00 bill. It may not seem like much but if this happens repeatedly, he could potentially be pocketing a lot of money from skimming tips. Plus, this server isn't giving the customers the option of what to tip based on his service, he's just putting it in the bill and telling people to sign. The manager reversed the bill to correct the servers actions but I won't be going back. I understand it can happen anywhere, but there are much better local places that I will go to. read more

This by far is one of the best Mexican restaurants you will ever eat at!!!! Let's start with beverage, fresh fruit for margaritas! Oh yes!!! Magnificent!!!! Salsa Smokey flavor yet not over powering just delicious! We had fajitas and flavor was just spectacular! The staff Norma and Jesscya were just outstanding including the GM!! You would never know they were on day 3 of opening! Did I mention the ambiance!!! So cool! You need to run there now! It will be on my regular rotation!!!! read more

The service was quick and the chips are homemade in front of you which is a very fun experience. I has the fish tacos which were good but could have used a little more flavor, maybe incorporate jalepenos? The table next to us got the dessert piñata which looked incredible! read more

The only good thing about this restaurant is the ambiance. The food was way overpriced and tastes mediocre at best. Drinks tasted slightly better but again overpriced. Much better food and drinks at Botanas! I will not be returning. read more

Really don't like waiting around 15 minutes to get a drink or a menu and was seated at the bar. I do understand that maybe they have staffing issues but didn't see anyone with a sense of urgency. Usually a pretty patient because of staff. To top it off food came out cold. The end of a perfect experience. Trying their best. Did take the food off the bill so I do appreciate that. read more

This was my second time here. The tuna fajitas were delicious, per the recommendation of the waitress. The table side guac was really good and overall it was a good dining experience both times. The only reason not for giving 5 stars - for being a "from scratch" restaurant you'd assume your clientele also appreciates sustainability. The Styrofoam to-go containers and use of straws is a little outdated. The waitress brought us like 5 to-go contains for our 2 meals + guacamole, a whole new bag of chips, and a plastic bag to carry it all out. It was with considerate intentions, but very wasteful. read more

High priced. Very marginal salsa. Bland flavor. Tableside Guacamole was terrible. No flavor and the mushed the avacado and then poured chunks of onion and tomato and mixed. Fajitas hardly any veggies. Giant/ in appetizing chunks of meat, I had to cut before I could make tacos. Skin left on my fajitas chicken breast. Homemade tortillas were excellent! Margaritas good, but over priced. Small glasses, no refill shaker. Overall I will not dine here again. Had to try it once. I want my money back! Definitely NOT worth the 45 min wait to get in. I'm sure they're busy because everyone wants to try it, once they do I'm sure we'll see a lot less lines waiting to get in. read more

This place is terrible and the manager keeps trying to come up with excuses on why the restaurant sucks on every review

When it takes over 25 minutes to get your drink, which is legit 2 minutes before your food arrives? It makes for a lot of chip eating (excellent chips!) topped with annoyance. Not to mention the glass was 80% ice and $12 a beverage. Hard pass in the future. Sweet waitress though. read more

I took my mom to Uncle Julio's for dinner. The food was delicious and the service was great!

Solid food, very consistent service. Nothing that wow's me, but better than many options for the price. Very good selection too

My wife and I went there on Jan 1 with reservations for 2 at 11:30. We sat down right away and were offered up some drinks with chips/salsa. The chips are really thin and not able to hold the watery salsa. I would recommend some paper napkins available to wipe up the table because of the mess. We ordered our food and the waitress seemed nice. I ordered the combo platter while my wife ordered a salad. The combo platter was average with no true flavor in it. That was the good part. My wife's salad was created with lettuce that was old and rotting. She picked out at least 10 pieces that we agreed were old. Since our server did not ask us once how the meal was during the meal, she stopped over after our plates were piled up on top of each other. I mentioned the concerns about the quality of the $16 salad and server admitted it looked funky. Then that was the end of the discussion. She took the plates and then passed over the bill for us to pay. First time there, last time there. We usually go to Jose's at the Corners and never had a bad meal. Next time you will see us at Jose's for what we know will be a tasty meal. read more

We tried going for lunch with some friends yesterday. There was 8 of us. We were told we had to sit at two different tables because of corporate COVID rules. We left. They are way too pricey for Mexican food anyway. Bar Louie in the same parking lot had no issue letting all of us dine together. Uncle Julio missed out on making around $400 from our bill. Pretty sad for business when they were not busy as it was. read more

I would say very disappointed is the best way to describe our visit. I had really high hopes as we heard good things, the restaurant looks great and I like the sound of fresh made Mexican food. I was a bit concerned when our food arrived in a very short time....maybe like 10 minutes. It seemed like "fresh made" would take a little longer. The food really looked and tasted more like something that was just warmed up. While the sauce over the top had some nice taste to it, the chicken did not seem seasoned at all and the bites towards the middle were just warm at best. There are so many choices for Mexican food and I was hoping that I could add Uncle Julio's to the list of those I would frequent but I am afraid I will take a pass moving forward. read more

Amazing food and such a friendly staff! Gill was the name of our waiter- he was very accommodating and checked on us throughout the meal. He even asked if we wanted chips and salsa to go! My husband got the steak tacos which were excellent and I got the shrimp salad, which was extremely fresh. Kid friendly atmosphere as well. Highly recommend this place. read more

The food is good, however, very overpriced for what you get. They heavily advertise the fact that everything is fresh and handmade, but this is what I expect of most quality restaurants and does not justify the upcharge compared to other similar quality restaurants. Additionally, they have only two real vegetarian options, fajitas (again, overpriced for what you get) and a vegetarian quesadilla. Even the cheese and onion enchiladas have a meat sauce on them, and I was told when I asked that there was no alternative to that sauce, other than just having them without sauce. Pros: chips and salsa are great, and the atmosphere is fun. However, if this restaurant wants me to become a repeat customer, they need to reassess the cost and add vegetarian options. read more

The food was good, however was way overpriced. I don't think the menu has very many options either. I got a raspberry margarita and that was also good. But also almost $12. I could have gotten a 1/2 pitcher for like $13 or $14 just about anywhere else. Our waitress was very friendly but took a bit to get our bill. I wouldn't recommend unless you want overpriced Mexican food. read more

UJ was just meh. The server was nice but service was slow. The prices are high and the food was pretty blah for us. I had steak fajitas and nothing jumped out to me. The salsa pre meal is very smokey flavored though the chips aren't bad at all. Tried to go a few times and the waits can get crazy but now I can say I've been. read more
