We checked in around 8 pm and only waited about 10-15 minutes for our table. I liked the decor and vibe of the place, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Our server was very chipper and everything came out quickly. Unfortunately, they were all out of ribs by the time we dined so instead I opted for the pulled pork plate. It came with a corn muffin, which was really delicious and I also opted for the baked beans (which were A-ok) and sweet potato fries (could have been a little crispier). The pulled pork was pretty good as well but not the best I've had by a stretch. Prices were incredibly reasonable, especially for the portions. I think they also have a happy hour 3-6 pm everyday, which would definitely be worth checking out!

The service was outstanding. I had the Fried chicken, which may be the best in town, at least among all the Restaurants I've tried, and I've tried many. It was very crispy, not greasy at all, and the chicken was moist and full of flavor. For my two sides, I had Collard Greens and Yams. The Collard Greens were amazing, and I don't think I can dine at Anthony's without ordering them. If you haven't tried this dish, do yourself a favor and order it. The greens were a perfect texture; the broth alone would make me happy. The yams weren't overly sweet, with a great texture and an unusual spice profile. While I liked them, for me, the Collard Greens are the answer to "what side should I have?" My wife had the Fried Catfish, which was also expertly fried, crisp, not fishy, and very good. She also had Fried Okra, which was delicious. Nice and crispy, as they should be. Someone at our table raved about the Oxtails. I've never eaten this dish and will try it next time. It looked really good. We ordered several desserts to share: I had to order the sweet potato pie, which I love and order whenever I see it. Not many in this area have tried this unique dessert, but it can be really delicious, so give it a try. This version was very good; the potato filling was subtle in flavor, maybe because it's not well known in NM and the chef doesn't want to overwhelm folks with this tuberous vegetable. We tried the Banana Pudding, which isn't something I'd normally go for, but this version was very nice. Full of real banana flavoring (and bananas), silky and far better than expected. The lemon cake was nice but the weakest of the three. Now, the hit dessert isn't on the menu! So I don't know what it is called, but it's a sweet potato 'roll' which far surpassed the pie. It has a much more concentrated sweet potato flavoring inside a crispy (fried?) outer coating, served with a caramel dipping sauce. Just ask for the 'secret' Sweet Potato dessert, and be amazed. We saw another table get an order, so I think it's always available, but you have to request it. This was to die for! This is a restaurant where you order and pay, then sit with a number to be served. With 11 people, ordering and the food arrived quickly and efficiently, with no mistakes. All the food arrived very well prepared. Our server was Shannan, who is also the manager there. She was such a delight! She was very attentive, charming, and funny; everyone fell in love with her. The interior is nice, no-nonsense, comfortable, and there was live music; a very nice pianist. It isn't overly loud. The prices are very, very affordable for all the quality food served. The menu is a tad confusing right now, but I hope Anthony works on it a bit. Don't worry about that; go, order what sounds good, and enjoy. This is a real gem in the city- a very different and unique type of food not found anywhere else here.

They also had a two man Blues band with a saxophone and an upright bass. The staff and service were impeccable. Check out the photos and notice how perfect the catfish looks. You won't find any "mud cat" here (as we called low quality catfish in the South). The fried okra was conservatively battered (preferred over fully coated), and the hush puppies had the thinnest layer batter and had that amazing buttery flavor. And in case you wondered, this review wasn't written by AI. This is my heartfelt review. Congratulations to all at Anthony's Soul Cafe.

The food was absolutely delicious! Shrimp and grits is always a favorite dining out choice for me…read moreso that is what I ordered. The chefs specialize in southern cooking so I figured this was a good choice. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The shrimp and grits were hands down the best I have ever had ANYWHERE! The shrimp were plump and juicy, sauce was perfect with roasted grape tomatoes added in, served over 2 grits cakes, with a side of roasted asparagus. It was perfection. As a side I ordered the buttermilk biscuit....it was the size of a burger bun! It was fluffy, light and tender, so good I didn't even add butter! It was served with mahaw jelly which was something I had never tasted, but found it was yummy and paired well with the biscuit. My husband ordered the Korean fried chicken sandwich which looked delicious and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was great, Scott (we found out was one of the owners) took our order. He was super friendly and helpful in telling us about the different entrees. After we ate he came to our table to make sure we had enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is located in a food hall, the open seating area is spacious with nice modern decor so you didn't feel crowded and didn't have a food hall vibe. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and delicious meal.....and it was a nice change of pace from New Mexican red/green Chile meals which I traditionally eat when I visit Santa Fe!

We probably should have stopped there, but the drink menu is just too tempting! So we shared a final cocktail, the Mango Mojito. And we weren't the only folks celebrating. We saw several reserved tables full of happy people commemorating their moments at Jinja, too.

Over the years, I've had a few things on the menu, but my absolute favorite, which is one of my absolute favorite dishes I've ever had is their Singapore Style Noodles Singapore style noodles is often my go to when I have to eat cheap fast Chinese food in Tennessee or other less sophisticated places This is different ! The way the chef executes this incredible dish reminds me a little more of Thai or Laotian food than Chinese ! The noodles have such a complex curry with a bit of sweetness they are not the standard yellow curry powder that you can buy off Amazon. The Char Sui Pork in the dish is to die for !! moist, tender and perfectly tasty Interesting that it is served with a lime wedge, which definitely makes me think Thai influence! Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this dish after having it many times over the years and will truly say it is one of the best Asian dishes I've ever eaten anywhere including Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Washington DC all of which I resided in Maybe I'll find something better on a trip to Hong Kong who knows ?? By the way, I met Jesus here (Not the holy resurrected one ! ) He's a friendliest bartender you will ever meet and he made me the very best Mai Thai I've ever tried, which is their house specialty drink.
