Stopped in for breakfast again due to seeing Uncle Dave's advert for biscuits and gravy. The restaurant was lively, obviously breakfast is a good time to be there. We were promptly served by a very nice woman. I ordered the biscuits and gravy but I knew from seeing the photo that I would NEVER eat two of those enormous biscuits so I asked the server if she would please ask the kitchen to use only one biscuit and pack the other one up for me to go home. The breakfast was brought out and it reminded me so much of my Mamaw's biscuits and gravy. The eggs were cooked perfectly too. The extra biscuit came to the table with more gravy on it and I asked for one without the gravy (I was going to make a breakfast sandwich out of it the next day). That was kindly proffered. Ribs where so dry and salty. Hard to eat. 1/2 roast chicken was missing the breast meat and to salty to eat. Onion rings where cold. Iced tea came out same color as water. We asked if the beverage gun wasn't work and the waitress says she made it with tea bags but didn't know how many to use or what color it was supposed to be. Honestly, I rarely criticize a place. Maybe once every couple of years.....so it takes a lot. Uncle Dave needs to try his own fried chicken. I bought two large dinners for roughly $34. Family of 4, with two teens on vacation in Sandwich. We were greeted by friendly staff and the server was helpful and attentive. The food was delicious, the serving sizes were very big. A BBQ place, I got the pulled chicken, my husband had the brisket, and the kids got Mac and cheese (there were so many add ins to choose from) and chicken tenders with a side of corn on the cob. Everyone was happy with their meal and the sauces that were offered were delish and fun to try-our fav was the house bbq sauce. The decor was bbq place esq and comfortable-there were tv's and a connecting bar area that looked fun, but we sat in the dining area in a booth. We would return! Went several months ago based on positive reviews. Place was cute (a bit too bright) and not too busy. Took forever to get service and once ordering waited too long. The food was ok but because we waited so long it tainted our opinion. Made the mistake of going again. Sunday night 6pm no one in dining room and a handful at the bar. Waitress said grab a seat and apologized for the 6/7 un-bussed tables. We ordered and we waited....and waited...45 minutes later watched the 2 other tables that arrived well after us get food. Finally just as we were ready to leave food arrived..nope not ours. Seriously the server had 3 tables and couldn't remember our order. Another 15 minutes and our food arrived. We decided for fun to do takeout last night from Uncle Dave's BBQ + Bar (315 Cotuit Rd, Sandwich). We've eaten then a few times and have done take out from there as well with satisfying results. Last night we were both in the mood for their fried chicken. We ordered two of the 4-piece dinners which come with hush puppies (plain for my wife and jalapeno for me) and two sides. Since we always share the sides we ordered collard greens, coleslaw, pork belly baked beans, and dirty rice. They were out of stewed okra which we've also had in the past and is very tasty. It's about an 18 minute drive for us, so we left as soon as the order was called in and the food was packaged and waiting for us when we arrived. Twenty minutes or so later we were back home, all the food was still nice and warm, including the hush puppies! Uncle Dave's fried chicken is delicious, the portion is very large, neither of us could finish so we'll have some cold friend chicken for lunch. It's lightly, but fully breaded, super crisp on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside. Exactly the taste sensation we we were looking to savor. I'm partial to the collards, which are flavored as they should be especially after I add a little vinegar-based hot sauce to them and the dirty rice is spot on flavor-wise. The slaw is lightly dressed with crisp cabbage and the beans are loaded with pieces of crisp, but tender pork belly and have become sweet from a gentle slow cook. All this food, properly packaged, and ready on time for $17.99--per chicken dinner-- which is almost unbelievable since you can easily spend that or more for just a burger and fries at some places these days. Uncle Dave's has yet to disappoint us over the last 18 months or so that we've been going there. They're closed Monday and Tuesday, but open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the rest of the week. One of these days we're going to make it over there to enjoy one of their southern-style breakfasts, of which they have a good many choices on their current menu. read more

What a treasure in Fosterdale. Stopped in for a hot Nashville chicken sandwich tonight. Oh my gosh! Fresh crispy chips that were not salty, and a sandwich on an onion bun toasted, with chunky coleslaw was a fantastic accompaniment to this crispy but moist fried chicken breast. Save room for the homemade ice cream sandwich. Too big for one so it was split. I am not a chocolate chip cookie person but this was delicious. Only BBQ place I've tried on the Cape and it was very good. From the roast beef to the brisket to the Cuban sandwich with pulled pork, all very good. not good, ribs were dry, they had no chips for salsa or nachos, my wife was sick to her stomach. Would not recommend or go back.

I love BBQ and I had extremely high hopes when I heard it was coming. Well, it was a letdown. This wasn't a good smoked meat BBQ. The pulled pork had no smoke at all. It was just a slow cooked crockpot pork with no smoke flavor at all. My half chicken was just a dry rub oven cooked chicken with no smoke and was undercooked. Pink and rubbery inside. The burnt ends were ok but again, they were just oven burnt, not smoked or grill burnt. The quesadilla's were stuffed with items but were very greasy. The cape is totally in need of a good BBQ restaurant. But it needs to be a real BBQ place with real smoked meats. My hush puppies were dry and not flavorful. I've lived in Sandwich for 12 years and it was my first visit to this place. Sunday night 5 PM place wasn't crowded 35 minutes after we ordered our meal. I was told that the barbecued ribs and beef brisket both were no longer available. My wife ordered ribs and she got hers. My son ordered a chicken sandwich. He liked the chicken sandwich. The ribs were average. My wife gave me one or two a lot of fat on them they ended up bringing me the homemade sausage and pulled pork. homemade sausage was good. The pulled pork was super dry and really salty. They told me they were going to bring my onion rings but they never did and not sure how ribs and brisket in a barbecue joint are not available? We were sitting in the tavern and the bartender apologized for the order snafu which wasn't his fault. Oddly though he brought back some sugary red drink as a I'm sorry gesture, but never bothered to ask anybody else at the table if they wanted any more drinks or water or anything, everybody at the table had no drinks left when he walked away after dropping off the sugary drink. I've heard so many good things about this place, but honestly barbecue that we did have wasn't very good was dry and salty. The service was awful. The food wasn't very good either. I travel a lot for work and I have a Lotta good barbecue in the south honestly most New England barbecue is not very good at. I won't go back to uncle Dave's BBQ. It was pretty bad. read more
