Truly heartbreaking I used to come here all the time for lunch or breakfast. Stopped in today at 12:10 there was only one other couple dining which should've been an indicator. I was looking to get a quick lunch a quick hamburger special but somehow without being fully educated of the ins and outs of the menu also asked my server as far as specials. A basic hamburger and a coffee will run you 22 bucks. Could be the possible explanation while the entire place was dead empty.... Staff were so friendly and willing to help me plan a birthday surprise for my friend. I always love staff who are both nice and down-to-earth type of funny. We got pancakes that were a good size for the price and actually had lots of fruit in both the blueberry and peach options (there was more than it looks in the picture). I feel compelled to write a review for this place. We were in town for a concert at Mohegan Sun, and stopped in because we saw they have vegan options. We got vegan BLT's and then a little mousse cup for dessert. Both were very good. The person working was really friendly, nice and helpful. We had fun conversations about the show playing on the tv and she was very accommodating re: the vegan menu - she went through and let us know which items they did and didn't have upfront. (Which I was happy about because often when places have a few vegan items listed, they are out of one or more of them). I'd definitely go back next time I'm in the area. read more

Came here instead after the directions to another breakfast place near the casino brought us to an empty parking lot. We both ordered the crab cake Benedict with avocado on the side , they made the crab cakes fresh to order, not frozen, delicious homemade hollandaise, perfect poached eggs, perfectly ripe avocado. Excellent diner coffee. Exactly what you want in a diner. If you are staying at Mohegan sun, it's worth it to hop in the car and eat here rather than overpay in the casino. Super retro and clean. We could see into their produce fridge and it was full of fresh produce and very clean. Bakery case had some really fantastic looking desserts that were homemade including vegan and gluten free options but we were too stuffed. Something for everyone here. Nice service. So, you would think that after visiting Mohegan Sun casino, I would have had enough of spending money for one day; but, hunger trumps thrift; and being conveniently nearby, the Uncasville Diner won out. When I first walked, I was surprised to find only two other customers, in spite of there being several cars in the lot. I sat myself down at the counter and and opened the menu. Soon after, the waitress put down her phone and asked if I wanted coffee. Her demeanor was pleasant, but distant, very reminiscent of a girl I dated in high school, who would ask "what makes you think somethings wrong" in such a way that I knew I had to have done something; but much as the waitress, she wasn't going to tell me what. Back to the menu. The crab cake benedict caught eye, and that was that. My wait time time was, respectably, under ten minutes, during which I sipped my coffee, which at first seemed like warm water; but, grew steadily more flavorful with each sip. At least so much that I was reasured that I had indeed ordered coffee, and not warm water. Meal time! Did I say that the crab cake benedict caught my eye earlier? Well, the actual product lost it. I couldn't help but think that the chef skipped "presentation" class at culinary school. Certainly a first was that the holendaise sauce was served on the side, in a plastic cup. The somewhat bland sauce itself was on the watery side; so, the plastic cup seemed a great way to keep it on the plate. Smothering the poached eggs, atop the crab cakes and english muffins, dug in. To my pleasant surprise, the crab cakes were quite flavorful and tasty. With just enough english muffin left, I eagerly sopped up the egg yolks. Did I mention the meal came with home fries? Well it did; and in fact, the first bite I took was actually these. Cold and Flavorless (well, they did taste like potatos) they had no seasonining at all. Subseqent bites would either be scalding or room temperature. I'm really not certain how the chef got these results; and hopefully, I'll never know. In any case, it was Heinz 57 to the rescue. All said and done, this meal cost me twenty bucks, before tip. I guess this was not my day to gamble, either on the slots at Mohegan, or this, the restaraunt I chose. read more

We've been coming to this diner for years... every year ion our annual trip to Mystic we would venture over here but after this last experience we are done with this diner!! I'm surprised that they are still open for business? The food was disgusting!!! I ordered a cheeseburger and the bread was so stale that it crumbled apart. The hamburger was charred on the outside and not cooked at all on the inside. I had to send it back twice! My husband's chopped sirloin was so rare it was still bleeding. The brown gravy for the sirloin, the consistency was like pouting mud onto it... Not exactly appetizing for sure?? And the nats that were flying around inside while we ate was the icing on the cake! Best kept secret! This is our favorite quiet local diner! Service is kind, efficient and professional. Their food tastes homemade and fresh no matter what you order. The hummus tastes authentic, the chicken sandwich is my favorite for lunch. For breakfast, whatever you order will be good but I have never had better home fries. Delicious diner with friendly service. I had the lobster roll and crab cake burger, which were both specials. Lobster roll was light on lobster for the price of $25.99, but it came with fries and a heaping serving of coleslaw, and I know that lobster isn't cheap in the first place. I liked the look of the restaurant: booths, counter, outdoor seating and a separate event space. It had an old school vibe too, which I loved. I came in thinking the vegan gluten free diner was going to be awesome. I have driven by it for years and have always wanted to try it. Well, I had the time and did. Never really understood why it hardly ever seems to have cars in the parking lot. Today, this mystery was solved. I waited to be seated and was given the menu. I thought this menu included everything but I didn't find out until AFTER the meal that you have to ask for the Vegan menu. Service was lousy. The food took forever. The place is not a place to bring anyone for anything, even if they are buying. I paid $28.00 for a coffee and an omelet with gluten free toast. I was upcharged $3.00 for the gluten free toast which was served broken. The omelet was dry (way overcooked), had no flavor, was overpowered with green peppers, and had NO FETA whatsoever. Disgusting. And the "homefries" were burned little turdletts that were hard, greasy, and after 5 minutes become inedible, as did the omelet. All of my silverware had a film on it and felt dirty. When I asked for clean silverware, even that felt the same way. My coffee tasted old and bitter, like it had been made at 8am. It was one of the worst meals I can remember having in recent history. If I were given a choice of starving or eating at the Uncasville Diner, whilst I don't like the idea of starvation, I would seriously consider it. Or dumpster diving. Save your money. Go elsewhere. The Worst Food Ever! We ordered a gyro ($11.99) and a gyro deluxe ($15.99) the only difference for $4.00 was that the deluxe came with fries... soggy unsalted fries. Both had two strips of dry meat and a side cup of a tablespoon of feta and two black olives. They also came with a container of "tzatziki" which turned out to be flavorless white grease... No garlic no acid just grease. The pita bread was fluffy and did taste ok We also ordered liver and onions($14.99) because my mom has been craving an old school dish. Again, two strips of 1/4 inch dried out shoe leather served with greasy, unsalted fries, a pile of undercooked onions and a side of microwaved out of the bag mixed vegetables I'm glad I tried it for myself so I can say it is DEFINITELY the worst I've ever had. We ordered a breakfast delivery; 2 of the lobster eggs Benedict and a side of sausage. Their sausage is the best in the area. The lobster Benedict, however, was not so great. Lobster meat was maybe 4-5 small nuggets of claw meat per muffin, but the texture was really tough and rubbery. The lobster meat also had a very strong flavor that indicates it wasn't very fresh. Never Again We came here...despite the reviews...and it was a mistake. My husband ordered the lox omelette and I ordered the sockeye (spelled incorrectly on the menu) eggs benedict. Both were so salty we couldn't eat them!! Don't get me wrong, I understand smoked salmon is salty...but this was so over the top it was gross. Husband's omelette was over cooked and rubbery. The 'hollandaise' sauce (pictured) was....not hollandaise. It was broken and had been chilled. It was really just egg yolks and butter crystals. When our server asked about the food and we said it was salty, she made no effort to fix the problem. No offer of a different dish or reduction to the bill. We ordered bacon for our daughter....and had to remind our server we had ordered it. She said..."oh yeah...honestly, I forgot to put it in". It did come out quickly...and cold...so not fresh to order in any way. I ordered a mimosa...and they had not opened the prosecco split bottle. Husband ordered a bloody Maria (tequila instead of vodka) He said it was pretty much just tomato juice, not an actual Bloody Mary mix...and our server took it off the table before he was finished. I really wanted to like this diner. It's close enough to Mohegan Sun for when we want to try something off the main area. The waitstaff was friendly and the menu was vast but when it came to the taste and freshness of the food, it just didn't cut it. My boyfriend had biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs. He calls himself a biscuits and gravy connoisseur since he orders it everywhere and he said it was the worst he has ever had. How do you even mess it up? He said the gravy didn't taste right and also, the eggs were a drab color, not a bright yellow that fresh eggs would have. My home fries were pint bad at all but my omelette left a lot to be desired. I had to coat it with hot sauce to even give it some flavor. 2 drinks and 2 meals there ended up costing us twice what it would be pretty much anywhere else. overpriced breakfast with an understated taste. The food was pretty bland, not much flavor To it. I was surprised that it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and the entire place was completely empty! I hardly know where to begin. We chose to eat here on the way to the Casino, because many options at Foxwoods were closed on Tuesdays. We were a party of three. Big mistake. The service was unfriendly, and slow. The food was equally poor, and the place is dirty. Upon entering, we were barely acknowledged by a woman sitting at a booth, who nonchalantly motioned for us to sit anywhere, in the completely empty diner. It was as if we were interrupting her enjoyment of the dead quiet of the place. This woman had zero personality. We placed our orders and proceeded to wait, and wait. Coffee, that was barely warm, was brought to the table by the same cheerful woman. After an impossibly long time, I could hear eggs being scrambled, and scrambled, and pretty much beaten to death. I assumed it was for the omelet I had ordered, and was a little comforted that real eggs were being used. Finally, our orders arrived. Pancakes, cold. French toast, cold. My omlet was hot, because it was obviously cooked last, but on a dirty grill, as it highlighted the flavors of peppers and onion, ( which I did not order) as well as the bacon and cheese I had ordered. I'm guessing the cross contamination portion of the Servsafe exam was not passed. The home fries were greasy and mushy. If I had to guess, I would say that mine was not the first plate they graced. They were definitely not fresh. Moving on, let's talk about cleanliness. As we entered the diner, I saw a " masks required sign." Once seated, I realized it was for our protection, because the place is filthy. Does Connecticut have a Board of Health? Does the Board know this places exists? The dust on the blinds was thick enough to write your name in. Same for the dust on the small lamp that hangs low above your food on the table. There was a lucite stand with keno slips that was covered in smudged fingerprints. Truly disgusting. Deciding to push our luck, we visited the restroom before leaving. The toilet is barely bolted to the floor, and easily moves if you do not sit completely centered and still. Complimenting the bathroom decor is a lovely plunger and toilet bowl brush in plain view. Hard to imagine, but I actually felt dirtier after washing my hands in there. Unless you have no choice, and there is nothing else open in a 50 mile radius, I would suggest skipping this place.
