After having dinner at Lusi Italian Kitchen and Pizzeria (www.lusiyyc.ca, 1772 33 Street Southwest)…read moreon Saturday night, I just had to share !
Last week we actually came upon this place by accident (but am I glad we did ) and had lunch, it was amazing, my wife and I split the Calamari and the Gnocchi and short rib Romanoff, they were both not only unique but something we both said we would order again. Then comes Saturday night , we had a reservaytiuon at one our fav places, Nikos' Bistro, but because of a blunder on my side I had booked Bar seats ( which we didn't want) - now where to go? Lusi's! I called them up and got a table for 30 min later.
Another outstanding meal. We did a repeat on the Calamari (Buttermilk marinated Humboldt calamari, pepperoncini aioli, grilled lemon), cooked perfectly, and not your normal "calamari rings", very nice thick pieces of calamari, very lightly breaded and the aioli was a perfect compliment.
For mains my wife ordered the Frutti di Mare Tagliatelle (Gallo mussels, calamari, prawns, tomato sauce, salsa verde) Which she thoroughly enjoyed, again all the seafood cooked beautifully. I had the Pan Seared Organic BC Salmon (risotto Milanese, broccolini and cherry tomato confit salsa gf) and yes you guessed it perfectly cooked super moist salmon with a nice crispy skin,I had never had risotto Milanese before biut I will for sure be having it again. Even the broccolini was amazing, not over cooked and with a perfect char.
Oh and did I mention, all their pasta is hand made and extruded on site with their own brass extruder pasta machine!
We order a very nice bottle of wine ( about $78) which went great with our food
Lusi also has a great story, go on their website and check it, better yet go to the restaurent and check it out. The story is told on the walls nearby their impeccably clean beautiful washrooms ( one of the way's my wife judges a restaurent is by how clean there washrooms are :-)
For desert we split the Torta Cioccolato (torta caprese, blackberry mascarpone, blackberry orange coulis, espresso pumpkin seed brittle) a perfect end to such a great meal, not to sweet, but just enough to satisfy the sweet tooth.
Oh and the service was second to none, so all in all a very repeatable evening. We'll be going back soon and taking friends
