Ravioli con Aragosta
Caylee D.

I went to Toscana for the first time the other day and I was blown away by their service & food. I didn't know what to expect but I've heard nothing but good things about this place. The waitress was super fun & friendly. The food was much more amazing than I could've imagined. Their Calamari was cooked perfectly with a nice thin batter, it's a must have! For my main course I had the Ravioli con Aragosta (lobster & crab stuffed ravioli served with a sun-dried tomato sauce ). They have a great variety of options on their menu. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Italian food!

Stopped by here for lunch with my brother and his girlfriend on their suggestion. They live in the neighbourhood and they've been making an effort to check out more local places around their house, which I love. I looked up the menu for this place online and it looked decent, plus Italian food is my favourite. Seemed like a match made in noodle heaven. But...it didn't really turn out that way. There are some really good things about this place. The space is nice, classy but not too classy. I liked the big window at the front to let in natural sunlight - made the whole place a lot brighter and happier. Our waiter was quite nice. Our appetizer, bruschetta, came out very quickly after we ordered. And here's something to say about attention to detail. The four of us ordered our meals, and then right away my bro's gf had to run out quickly to let in the furniture delivery guys. The three of us chatted and our meals came out together, but the kitchen put a hold on her meal she it would still be hot when she came back to eat it. Nice work. But seriously, the food was lacking. My pasta was really bland. I had to load it up with cheese, and even then, a serious meh. I tried a bite of my husband's pasta and it was definitely better than my meal, but neither of us were blown away by that, either. And usually, mediocre food plus good service would pull three stars in my book. I mean, nothing was terrible about this place. But $19 for that average-sized bowl of below-average pasta? That just turned the whole thing into a major bummer. I don't think I'll come back. The best part of the experience was the company I was with. We'll meet up somewhere else next time I'm in Calgary. You can't go wrong with beer, right?

So we were in a pasta mood and ordered the lasagna and the cannelloni. Sad news for the cannelloni: we felt they were flavorful, but too dry inside. Cannot recommend. The lasagna was very tasty, but for my liking it had very little cheese. We did eat all the portion though ;) it was flavorful. Italian cuisine varies from region to region, we were expecting a plate covered in bechamel for the cannelloni and there was none. So it did not meet expectations... but the pasta was good, home made, thin, and the sauces were flavorful... so a solid 3 stars for good quality. I do have to say that our waiter approached us to ask if all was to our liking, and only at the end did I disclose our disappointment... I didn't know what they could do to make it better...and we were so hungry we had already eaten half anyways... well in this they excelled as they comped our cannelloni and gave us a very good tiramisu to top it off! Definitely 5 star customer service! This is a local family owned restaurant that prides itself in having happy customers, and we are just passing by... nonetheless they really tried, and succeeded, in having us leave with a happy face. And that gives them a solid 4 star overall! Enjoy.

Really satisfying. French onion soup was the reason we returned (we don't live in Calgary). As good as I remember - broth is perfect, good amount of bread in the bowl, toasted cheese on top. Highly recommend. Caesar salad was meh. Lettuce/dressing tasted really watery. Skip it if you have high caesar salad expectations. **Edit to add pictures.

Book this for your next meeting with Jasper Morris, Anne Krebiehl and Peter Liem lol A very well researched selection, from Meursault villages to the most coveted 1ers & Grands Crus in white and red: Puligny, St. Aubin, Volnay, Pommard, Vosne-Romanee, Gevrey Chambertin, ... Lafarge, Hubert Lamy, Leflaive, Mugneret-Gibourg, Some excellent lower yield & early accessible vintages like the 2019. Not many bottles are older than 10 years, but a number of suppliers provide pretty much the rarest new stuff available in the region. Cold cuts, sardines and cheese served, the place is full of young young, smiling people listening to unobtrusive music. Make sure you find the stairs from the street level to get here. Oh, and they have Les Robarts by Suenen. I had to visit four wine stores in Champagne to get two bottles of that. Good luck finding that anywhere else.

We were greeted by a group of bartenders (who all happened to be wearing toques) when we walked in, and I felt both welcomed and slightly out of place (no toque). The cocktails were meticulously crafted--priced at $15-20 a drink, it's on par with bigger cities like Vancouver and Toronto, but they also live up to the standard. Honestly, the highlight of our visit to Missy's was the Missy's This That charcuterie board. Each piece of cured meat was sliced impossibly thin, the olives were meaty and delicious, and the cheeses were carefully selected to complement everything. I loved that it also came with a side of thick cut bread and pickled vegetables. One of the best charcuterie boards I've had at a restaurant for sure. Not cheap but worth the pretty penny on a slightly fancy night out.
