This place was quite expensive so I was expecting a classy restaurant experience. What I got was a drunken man punching the air for like 2 minutes straight scaring my girlfriend and I on Valentines at 10pm. I thought staff handled it but in actuality the group left. Besides that, the food was the same experience, I thought it was going to be high end, classy, and fancy, but most importantly, delicious. It was not, every dish that came out, except the arrenchini that was amazingly good, for all the pastas, was hella mid. Man what a disappointing time. read more

Wonderful experience at this new spot in River North from Chef, José Sosa of Gibson's Italia, and once again he has made a big hit! Excellent food, cool vibe and ambiance, and outstanding service (thank you Country). We ordered the olives starter to go with our martinis and they did not disappoint. Then creamy Puglia burrata with freshly sliced prosciutto, eggplant caponata, and fluffy pastry puffs, onto tasty homemade tortellini with lamb rags, Branzino Arrosto also amazing and flavorful roasted carrots. We finished up with the almost to pretty to eat 22 W Tiramisu which too was wonderful. Looking forward to returning! read more

*I'd like to preface the following with the fact the staff did try fixing the wrong with comp'd drinks and an 18% discount overall. But I didn't go to dinner seeking a discount or a free drink.* Wife and I were really excited to try this place. We used to live right down the street and never had the opportunity. We arrived right at our reservation time of 6:30pm. We were quickly sat, right on time. It seemed our table wasn't in a servers section, as we weren't waited on for over 25 minutes and had to flag down a manager to order drinks and our food. We received our drinks and first course and only did then a waiter come greet us. For the price of the meal, food was mediocre at best. The Cacio E Pepe tasted like Alfredo from Olive Garden. The Tiramisù was more like a chocolate cake drowning in Amaretto. You could get drunk off of the dessert. Our waiter, although super nice, was trying way too hard to sell the food. He'd describe the food by describing other countries cuisines, all forgetting Italy. 20+ minutes in between visits to our table. He also claimed to be a sommelier. He couldn't/wouldn't tell us his favorite wine or region. Overall, I won't return. read more

The best part about this restaurant is the ambiance. The interior design was curated perfectly for a sophisticated date night. My favorite dish was the burrata e avocado. The sourdough bread was very good and the burrata was fresh. The lobster ravioli was not what I expected and it was sort of disappointing. However, I did try my friend's TORTELLINI and EGG RAVIOLO CARBONARA and they were much better than the lobster ravioli. Service was okay, our waiter was a little too high energy for the ambiance and we were seated 15 mins after reservation time. read more

My fiancé and I had a date night here, there is a coat check up front which is nice and we were seated quickly. Those are the two reasons for the two stars, everything else went downhill from there. Our table was inbetween two large parties and the servers kept bumping our table to squeeze through the little walk ways. We ordered the meatballs, Caesar salad, lamb, cacio e Pepe, and a bottle of wine. The meatballs were decent and everything else was not good. The Caesar salad had very bitter lettuce to the point where we didn't eat half of it, the cacio e pepe was truly inedible with a watery sauce and absolutely no pepper besides what they garnished the rim of the plate with, and the lamb was severely overcooked and the tiniest pieces of lamb I've ever seen. read more

Really liked this place for a pre theatre dinner. Cool decorations, really good food.

Just ate at ummo the other day with some friend The ambiance was very nice and i was excited to try the food ! We order two apps and we each had a main dish and wanted to share some carrots with our mains. The server brought out the carrots as an appetizer which was weird , it was also hard to tell who exactly the manager was. there was two people one wearing a black dress just sitting at the bar eating and another just wearing an extra small shirt black shirt who I'm guessing were the manager , neither of them came around to ask if things were good also our server did last call for us but they sat two more tables after they did last call .Food was mid service was mid and just overall everything was mid , Also just get rid of the surcharge read more

The truffle risotto? The tiramisu? Whaaaaaat. This place is so good. The cocktails are interesting, maybe a little overpriced but this is north loop. The tiramisu was above and beyond. read more

Super disappointed!!!! Beyond mediocre ! Drinks were ok. Wine by the glass -fair. Had Caesar salad-not traditional-dressing had no flavor. Burratta was ok. For entree I had gluten free cacio y Pepe-bland!! We had Risotto with Parmesan -bland and indistinguishable from the pasta. Also friend had tortellini which was in a soup type sauce-ugh! They need a revamp. Much better Italian in the neighborhood!! read more

Amazing italian food, service, and drinks! The deserts here are some of the best. Make sure to go for dinner and visit the bar in the upper level. read more

My girlfriend and I came to Ummo last night for dinner and we really enjoyed our time here. We started the meal with an espresso martini for her and the Strawberry Cannoli for myself. I usually don't drink vodka but this was a really delicious drink and not overly sweet. For food, we started with the Focaccia and Polpette di Carne. The focaccia with ricotta and honey was delicious, and the meatballs were very savory as well. For the main dishes, we shared the lobster ravioli and pesto tortellini, both of which were absolutely delicious. I loved the presentation of the lobster ravioli and the pistachio pesto on the tortellini dish was perfectly seasoned. Our waiter was very well versed in the menu, and our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. The decor and vibe wasn't super trendy and felt more like an old school Italian restaurant. We didn't get a chance to check out the upstairs lounge but will hopefully be back in the future to do so! read more

Ummo - Desert, don't remember the name but it was delish! - Italian Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Just went here for a friends birthday and loved it!! The food and wine were amazing, but the service was sooooo slow so I had to dock a point for that. It took a solid 30 minutes just to get someone to come and give us water. We put our whole order in when the waitress did come so that we didn't have to wait again, and the pace of the meal after that was better. We had the arancini (super cheesy but could use more red sauce or something to balance the cheese), the mushroom risotto (amazing), the cacio e Pepe (perfection), the mashed potato side (buttery heaven), and the branzino (gorgeous and beautiful sauce and blistered tomatoes balanced perfect with the crispy fish). The best part was def the tomato dessert - don't skip this if you go! read more

Best to start off with the high points, which were the arancini for an appetizer (rating of 5) and the service throughout (rating of 4). My companion had the chicken fiorentine while I opted for the lasagna. Both dishes were pedestrian in composition and taste for a rating of 3. The meal was not awful, but with so many other choices in the area I do not plan to return. read more

very good ambient for brunch, bright and relatively quiet, not too many people around. The latte smelt amazing! the food is amazing, the 30-month prosciutto is really good, thinly sliced. the tortellini is very good, a little bit salty the wagyu burger is so so, doesn't really have that distinct wagyu taste the smoked salmon on brioche is really good, the brioche is a bit on the buttery side, the salmon is very fresh very good portion, we are all very full read more

Was in Chicago for a long weekend (GO BRONCOS!) and this was our final night. Was looking for a special place for Italian. Started with cocktails...the Terzetto and the Strawberry Cannoli. We left the guns. Both cocktails were quite good. Small plates of: BATTUTA DI MANZO - Wagyū beef tartare, pickled baby carrots, caramelized onion aioli, and gnocco fritto. Really tasty combination of flavors and textures and the presentation was special. ARANCINI AL TARTUFO - Sicilian rice fritters, porcini mushrooms, Taleggio D.O.P. cheese, and parmigiano fonduta. Also very tasty and incredibly rich. I'd certainly get it again but felt it would've been better with an additional bit of a tomato sauce to cut all of the cheese. TORTELLINI AL PESTO - Sicilian pistachio pesto, fresh ricotta, and Parmigiano Reggiano. This was my least favorite. I didn't ask but it seemed like it had a spinach quality that I'm just not a fan of. Got the Tiramisu and an expresso martini to end the meal. Very nice! Hayden was our server and gave many great suggestions for our meal and helped us choose our next destination after our meal. We'd definitely come back on our next trip to Chicago. Oh...and go Broncos! read more

Ummo was fantastic, great food and customer service. We loved every course and finished every plate. We got the burrata e prosciutto, lobster ravioli (fav), garganelli, filet mignon, and tiramisu. And we also appreciated the restaurant decor and ambiance too. read more

Came here for Valentine's Day and very much enjoyed my experience!!! For being such a busy night, service was great and prompt. Ambiance was great, it's such a pretty space!! We ordered the arancini (drool worthy), the tortellini, the chicken and the carrots. I thought the chicken was fantastic and the perfect balance of flavors. For the location and concept I felt like the food was pretty fairly priced. Overall I can't wait to come back to try different dishes! read more

The portions may be small but the flavor is great! The wait staff was nice and let us take our time when eating. We loved all the decor too! All the pastas were perfectly cooked al dente. Will say the portions aren't huge so expect to order a few things if you're hungry or a big eater or you may leave still wanting a little more. HIGHLY recommend the baked potato and the POMODORO E BASILICO for dessert. read more

I've dined at UMMO many times and, per usual, every bite and sip was perfection! We started with the Avocado Burrata appetizer with toast points and I could have just eaten that for my full meal. The Cacio e Pepe was simply one of the best I've had. I'm a cocktail girly and their Negroni is smooth, balanced, and just ever so lightly bitter (in the best way). Every dish was a standout, I'l be back soon! read more

I dined at Ummo last weekend with my girlfriend - it was sensational. When you walk in, you are welcomed with a creative, modern atmosphere. Dim lighting and carefully created sleek design and a really pretty bar area. Our server and overall service was great. She had detailed descriptions of all menu items and you could feel her passion for the chef's menu design. She was helpful in pointing out recommendations. Now to the food, the absolute best part. To start the prosciutto with burrata was excellent - freshly sliced meat and such a fresh burrata; it came with these fluffy breads that were airy, doughy, flavorful and excellent. The arancini oozes with a cheese when you take a bite into it and sits in a delicious creamy sauce. And the focaccia had a nice flavor with the honey giving the ricotta its secret sauce. The pastas are homemade - great textures and really good. The pasta with Ragu was the winner, the meat sauce gives it a heartiness and the pesto and creamy like topping rounds out the dish nicely. Cacio e Pepe tasted like the classic it is - a safe bet. Steak was also great. read more

The server was incredibly friendly & knowledgeable. She guided us through the menu giving suggestions, while not over selling. The food (arancini is a MUST) was all outstanding. We also ordered cocktails and ended the meal with wine. No complaints from start to finish. Not to mention the beautiful ambiance / decor from the bar, to the dining room, to the bathroom. Will definitely be coming back. read more

10/10 food 10/10 ambience. Would definitely recommend to anyone. The waitstaff was kind and attentive.

We had a great dinner experience at UMMO on Sunday night. The atmosphere is relaxing with great music playing in the background and a stylish decor. The service was really good - quick, professional and with attention to details. We ordered arancini, octopus crudo - both dishes were delicious with beautiful presentation and a lot of flavors. And dessert is to die for - definitely leave room to try their desserts! read more

Came to celebrate my birthday but won't be back. Our server was so unfriendly and it ruined our entire experience. She made me feel so uncomfortable celebrating that we ate and left within 40 minutes. The food came fast and was good but the bathrooms could use some updating as the stalls barely closed and seemed to be made of plywood. They served us a free dessert after my partner advised it was my birthday..but no one explained what it was or if I even had a food allergy to any of it. Such a shame because it is a beautiful spot. read more

Guess I'll never know much about this place. I made an Open Table reservation 30 days in advance of my arrival for myself (just 1 person.) Then yesterday I get a phone call cancelling me out because they're fully booked that night and don't want to give a table to just 1 person. I find this to be unbelievably DISCRIMINATORY ! So, UMMO, you'll make a couple of dollars extra by cancelling me out. Congratulations !! read more

First of all, we get seated, and we were waiting for a waiter to come by and take our orders (20 min passed by) no one came by. We gave it another 10 minutes, until I spoke up and said something. Which is ridiculous, in my opinion.. I think someone from management came by and took our order. It was nice of him, however, the principle is as to why it took at least 30 minutes to get our order in. The ambience is great, the service is not it. We hardly had a waiter not attend us, and it sucks that they automatically put the tip amount on the check. The waiter or whoever, didn't deserve the amount of tip that was charged on the check. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, the food was okay- just not worth the price/service. read more

What a fantastic experience! I had the pleasure to be invited to the Friends&Family, and I did not have that high expectations for the first day of serving, but the team did phenomenally! We have been welcomed by the host team with a big smile and such a professional approach from the beginning. The server was on the top of the table all the time with the team's support. Runners described every dish was dropped, and the drinks came with good timing. The restaurant's ambiance is beautiful, and the art on the wall connects all. The kitchen has an open concept, so it makes you feel the energy and create a vibrant experience. You must go upstart to the laugh where the second bar and DJ set the vibe...#the night just getting started " looking forward to coming back! read more

we start off with our waitress, who was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and attentive. we ordered two slightly naughty Tito martinis that were perfection. We split the Cacio e Pepe pasta dish and cried after we finished it, it was really good. next, I had the Filetto with a delicious salsa Verde and balsamic reduction. The steak was cooked Perfect my husband had the chicken dish. We loved the fact that the polenta was a bit grainy which added a nice rustic, feeling to the dish we finished with the delicious Campari sorbet. we were doing a show at the merchandise Mart and decided to check this place out. Am I in italy? The first time I was obsessed but was a few cocktails deep but this is the second time (sober now) and I confirm I am obsessed! The cacio e pepe is perfect- from the bite of the nood to the sauce (no too salty like other places). The tortellini - soft pillows of heaven with the perfect meat sauce. Best arancini I've ever had. Amazing service and ambience and location! This chef needs to be recognized! read more

Went last night at 9pm, wasn't busy at all. Waited a while before I was greeted by the host. Ten more minutes after I was seated before I was asked what kind of water I would like. Another ten minutes after that before I was greeted by my server to take my order. Restaurant week menu was different from what was published online and had I known, I would've chosen another place. Settled on the braised short rib dish and the white bean and ragu appetizer and pistachio filled pastry for dessert. Food was mediocre and I cannot stress enough how slow the service was. Absolutely will not return; there are far better places to eat. read more

Extremely overpriced for portion size. Food not great (pasta and fish both undercooked). Service meh. Weird vibes. I would not recommend.

Only a week old so naturally working out the kinks. The drinks take a while but were decent Had avocado buratta and arancini for aps and tired several pastas and fish Fish portion was large Pastas are small for the price but very good Sides would feed 2 people only Overall good and better than expected read more

Service was subpar, we had to ask for things multiple times before receiving it. The food was only ok. Our risotto was extremely salty, but we didn't want to send it back since it took 20 minutes to make and when we told our waiter he did not say anything or do anything for us. The best thing we had was the mafaldine cacio e Pepe and we didn't even order that! It was given to us by mistake. The restaurant was very pretty, but we were seated by the pool table (why it is in the middle of the restaurants, I do not know!) and people decided to play during our meal so we had to watch so we didn't get a pool cue in the back of our head. That should be moved away from tables! Unfortunately this place was a one and done for us. read more

This is a great new place to check out ! From the food to service and vibes in general would recommend. Spencer our server was great too !

Purchased a ticket here for NYE for $180 and was promised open bar and appetizers walking around. The bartenders were doing their best but it still took around 30 minutes to get a drink because it was so crowded at the bar. Absolutely disappointed in the "appetizers" becuase I didn't see them once between 9pm-1am and then when we asked about them we were told they were gone? We never saw any in the first place. The only food was a dessert table next to the bathroom at the end of the night. Furthermore, we had to stand and wait outside for 30 minutes to get inside and by the time we got to the front of the line, the bouncers were arguing about the fastest way to get people inside by collecting all our IDs, then giving them back, then collecting them again, ultimately wasting more time. read more

Great concept, poor execution. The interior is beautiful, and the food is great, but we purchased an expensive New Year's Eve ticket and had to wait outside for a hour and received minimal benefit for the cost. Great for dinner, not for NYE read more
