5 stars for great service and a bang for your buck!!! At my visit I choose the all you can eat Sushi menu ( a little over $30). The buffet was unique because you dont have to go up to a station to choose the sushi or anything else on the menu. The waitress brought it out upon ordering. Another great feature is the menu consisted of many other options in addition to the choice of raw, cooked and vegetarian sushi rolls. The other options are soups, appetizers,salads, noodles and dessert. The restaurant offers hibachi as well. It is a casual restaurant that is great for group of friends or family. The waitress was so great we didn't feel rushed or as if we were ordering too many items she was very attentive and served with an excellent attitude. I couldn't decide what to eat during a day out with my son and my husband suggested sushi. Thankfully we were already in the area we stopped here. I was greeted with a question "hibachi or AYCE sushi" knowing I couldn't do either with a 3 year old I opted for standard menu. Our server was very sweet, she made the visit very enjoyable as she recommended what to get off the menu. I got a sushi for 1 combo and chicken fried rice for my son. I didn't expect to get good sashimi on this side of town, much less this building but I was mistaken! So yummy! Even the fried rice was tasty! The soup and salad that came with the combo was very pleasant as there was a good portion of tofu and Wakame. I can't wait to go back to try more food. read more

The service is very good and prompt. Appetizers were hot and freshly made, the spicy edamame had just the right amount of spice. Their miso soup had a flavorful broth and had plenty of tofu and seaweed. BEWARE...they scam you! Hibachi includes rice (white or brown)...waitress asks my teen boys "do you want white rice or fried rice"...they said "fried". We received chicken fried rice (no one said chicken) Which added $4 ON TOP of each plate that already averaged $35/each plate. Waitress said "you didn't ask" if there was an up charge. I told her none of us knew we had to and how did you order chicken fried rice on everyone when no one said chicken. Manager supported the waitress. Food was not good. AYCE was an awesome price, the presentation of the sushi, and food is awesome! The restaurant looks amazing I love the roof with the stars, super clean and you can defiantly tell they spent a lot of time designing the restaurant. The service could have been a little better but they're still new! I know this will come over time with training and knowledge. My only complaint and why this isn't a 5 star review is because the fish doesn't seem fresh. It tastes like it might be from a package. Not sure if this is cause the place is new and hasn't established a good fish supplier yet, but really hope this changes! It could also just quantity isn't there yet to rotate through the fish fast enough yet. I really hope this changes. Also the limit of 20 pieces of sushi is kinda strange, that not AYCE, that's 20 pieces. Might want to rethink that. Delicious, but not worth $5.99. Maybe $2.99. Heart-lover's roll was very good. But It was presented to me with an ugly, toy-like plastic flower-tree standing on the plate. I had to ask for wasabi & ginger. I received 1 little slice/bite of ginger and green wasabi raked & smeared onto the side of the tiny dish. It arrived as I was halfway finished with my roll. My half & half iced tea with lemon was good, but its refill came with no fresh ice or lemon. Sushi Pizza looked nothing like the menu pic and was not in cubes, as stated. It came in a round shape. It was very bland & topped with seaweed. Soy sauce helped a little. Decor is very cheesy, fussy, redundant, and disjointed. Music was a loud pop rock variety trac. We have gone to Umiya so many times and have had very few problems. yesterday we went, and there was a server I hadn't seen before. We ordered our first round of food. 20 minutes later, she came back to see if we needed more food. we explained that we hadn't gotten our food yet, and she rolled her eyes and walked away. she came back with some of our food, and slammed it on the table and walked away. still, we didn't get all of our food. we were going to let her know, but she would not come back to our table. finally after about 50 minutes, we asked a different server for the soup we never got and he immediately brought it out. the people at the table next to us asked us "is she slamming stuff on y'all's table too?" and they continued to say that she seemed to have an attitude with them. i eventually asked for a manager which I almost never do because I'm not confrontational, and 20 minutes later still didn't see a manager. I had to go up to the front and ask someone else for a manager and immediately one came to us. his response was "I'll get you another waiter". mind you, we had been there for over an hour and a half so we were almost done anyways. when we got a new waiter, our waitress got very angry and was giving us horrible looks. when we went to check out, our bill was almost $50 more than normal even after a military discount. I tried looking at the charges, but the waiter kept pulling the screen away. we paid and left so that we could just get out of there. I have never had such a bad experience there. we are very patient people and completely understand when places are busy, but intentionally ignoring our table, no communication, extreme attitude, slamming things on our table, and "forgetting" numerous things throughout our dinner was very frustrating. read more

I happened to be in the Kingwood area and tried this AYCE sushi/hibachi/teriyaki place. For $30.95, I had an excellent meal. The service was great, considering that the restaurant was busy at the time. The staff were friendly and courteous. I've read other reviews and some complained of loud noise. But this is understandable. I personally prefer quiet ambiance, but Umiya is an AYCE place, so it probably attracts families with young children, and of course children would make some noise. But no big deal. If you want an excellent value for your money, this is a great place. read more
