This is a great pan-Asian restaurant in mid town. The service was top notch - our waiter was very accommodating and attentive to all our needs and questions. My company gives us a team building budget to do meals together outside of work hours. My team usually does several dinners a year because of this but this year we realized we did only one and had a whole lot of the budget left. We opted to try Ultra, which recently opened near our office and had a delicious sounding menu that's just pricier than what we'd usually spend. My team and I made a reservation on a Wednesday night. We were greeted by the hostess who checked our bags and coats. Our table was in a lounge/bar vibe. Cool and expensive with couches and arm chairs filled with pillows. Luckily not too soft that it made it hard to eat. Our waitress came over and got us started with drinks. They have some delicious signature cocktails and for the alcohol free in the group, some fun mocktails as well. When it came to the food, we went nuts and ordered whatever we felt like. The waitress helped guide us as to what we should order doubles of for the table vs what we were okay getting fewer plates of while still making sure everyone got to taste. She gave great recommendations and didn't try to upsell us, just provided us options to get a bit of everything. We were also able to order off both the happy hour and regular al a carte menu, which was nice. The food came out quickly and everything tasted delicious! Flavourful and fresh. Almost everything we had was a huge success among my team. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathrooms are also single toilet rooms, which is always nicer than being self conscious or hyper aware of neighbors in stalls next to you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The toilets were black, which I don't love, but that's not terrible. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also when I went to the bathroom, I passed by this large golden lounge area that was more rich club vibes. I didn't have high expectations because usually restaurants with high end decor end up with mediocre expensive food. But I was pleasantly surprised! I've been to Ultra twice - we booked the patio both times, but since it was rainy the first time, we were seated in their bar/lounge area. The patio feels like a resort, until you realize you're in the middle of Toronto. Lovely decor all around. The lounge was VERY different - dark, moody, kind of like a hotel lobby bar. You can see from the photos how contrasting the vibes are. I highly recommend the Tuna Tacos from the happy hour menu - these were by far the most flavourful dish, and the taco itself is made of fried nori. From the main menu, my favourite was the Shrimp Fried Rice. All food was pretty good considering it is Asian fusion, which can be hit or miss. We really appreciated that happy hour ran until 7:30PM on a Friday evening, which is likely due to Ultra's location. Service was solid throughout both of my visits. The dishes I'd recommend are the tuna tartare, shishito peppers, thousand layer potato, miso sablefish and Wagyu skirt steak. I came in with low expectations. Most restaurants that look like this, especially Asian inspired usually have over priced food and cocktails. It's mainly for the interior and vibe. But I was happily shocked by the quality and taste. All of the dishes actually was executed very well and had a nice creative twist. A special shout out to the scallop ceviche, boneless short rib main and seafood pasta. by the end of the night they turned on the music, and it was actually quite loud. We are a group of 14 here to celebrate a birthday. From start to finish, the service was impeccable. Accommodating a large group like us is no easy job, the servers are very patient with us given we have late guests and numerous requests. We first started in the darker bar room, the decor was stylish, classy, and clean! Drinks were flowing at all times. Loved it. Then, we moved to the main dining room which looked like we were sitting underneath a big tent. It felt cozy, lovely, and cute all at the same time. We did the $75 pre fixe menu which was filling and yummy. Definitely impressed by the mushroom/truffle fried rice! Was here last night with friends, classy place with a beautiful dining room with dj playing, very good food, a separate bar, and separate rooftop patio. The food is upscale Asian fusion I would say. We had several dishes and all were very tasty. Service was fantastic and very friendly, and we sat at the bar afterwards where the ambiance though very noisy, was also very friendly. I would recommend this place if you are planning to take someone out on date to impress them. read more

It's a hidden gem! I went in for Summerlicious lunch with my husband. The interior was gorgeous and very spacious. We ordered dim sum & mango salad for appetizers, sirloin steak & fish for main and Paris bras and lemon cake for dessert. All dishes were nicely presented and very flavorful. It's daring to open up a supper club in this area of Midtown, not to mention a re-imagined version of a very notable venue which I myself have fond memories of. As a first impression, the facade of the building still displays a sign for Arthur's; You wouldn't know that it's Ultra until you actually enter. I must say that the staff and service here are absolutely exceptional and attentive, in particular, Louis, Shea, Zack, and the management team. The interior was designed with Alexander McQueen in mind, and is both opulent and elegant. The main floor encompasses the Ochre Dining Room, as well as the Onyx bar. The bar itself was not in operation when I visited, nor was the patio open for service, and these will both be essential in enticing customers. They were unable to make several of the cocktails requested, as they hadn't yet fully stocked the bar. That being said, they do offer custom cocktails which they create based on your preference of flavours and style, which is a great addition! The menu is based on 'PanAsian cuisine' with a mix of cold and hot apps, rice and noodle dishes, and a selection of sushi, sashimi, and larger mains. I wouldn't necessarily call it Pan Asian, as not all Asian cultures and influences are represented, but they do have unique options, as well as nods to common favorites, such as miso black cod. They do suggest a sharing style of dining; however, many of the apps are quite small, and one bite wonders. One of their 'signature dishes' was the crispy seabass with green curry which I was excited to try; however, it wasn't 'as advertised.' Rather, moreso a play on fish and chips, and lacking the essence of a true green curry. The miso black cod had a perfectly crisp exterior and done quite well, although unusual to pair it with a pea purée. The staff and service truly make this an incredible experience, and I truly hope that this re-imagined venue will live up to the original. They do have minor issues to work out, but I look forward to coming back soon! read more

I was a bit hesitant at first as a Chinese who always go to traditional authentic Chinese restaurants, I am worried that this is a fake. I was nicely surprised. The shrimp fired rice was the best that I ever had. Szechuan eggplant was also excellent. My husband had the brazino and the multi layer potatoe and they were equally excellent. My daughter and her boyfriend visited this establishment on December 7th, my daughter's birthday. They had reservations and were seated at a table quickly based on their reservation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My daughter observed a Caucasian family leaving, the young lady was wearing a Lulu track suit and dirty running shoes. The young gentleman accompanying her was wearing black track pants and running shoes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She noticed them as they paid their bill and stood to leave. While looking over the menu, my daughter also noticed a gentleman repeatedly walking by their table. After several passes, he approached and asked my daughter and her boyfriend to leave. When she asked why, she was told that they, the restaurant had a dress code and that she and her companion did not meet the requirement. When she pointed out the Caucasian family he acted defensive and called a manager who also stated they must leave. My daughter and her boyfriend were dressed appropriately as it was her birthday celebration. She was baffled as to why her party was asked to leave and the other party was allowed to eat their meals with no concern as to their "dress code" As a visible minority, I have never relied on the "race card" to explain bad behaviour or negative treatment, but clearly my daughter and her boyfriend experienced "racial profiling" at its worst. ambiance was incredible, food exceptional and service professional and friendly. We came on a Sunday to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. We were seated at the golden room at the sofas. The seating was very comfortable! and the background music just right! Our server, support staff and the GM were extremely professional and friendly. The kitchen staff created incredible dishes full of flavour from our appetizers to the main and desserts (made in house) fresh, flavourful and beautifully plated. The bar staff created a special cocktail for my husband which he said was the best he ever had. I highly recommend. We will definitely be back! read more
