This store is seriously a dream come true, whether I'm looking for a higher end beauty product or a drugstore brand. Ulta conveniently carries both, and they don't stop at just cosmetics. They also have a salon and do scheduled makeovers, though I've never paid for either of those services at an Ulta before, and don't really have a need for it. I'm decent at my doing my own makeup, and I have a stylist I've been happy with for years. I recently took advantage of a free makeover with Urban Decay in store, and finally learned the secret to doing perfect eyeliner wings. Like, it's so stupid that I didn't think of this method before. I'm completely obsessed with it, and I've been pleased with how my eyeliner has looked over the last few days since learning this trick. Thanks, Cindy! Unfortunately the only thing I really wanted to pick up on this trip was a blending brush, but they were out of stock. I ended up grabbing an e.l.f. brush at Target, and it actually works quite well. I may end up getting the Urban Decay brush anyway, though, just to see the contrast. Ulta also has killer coupons for some of the non-designer brands; I incorporate a little bit of higher and lower priced products in my skincare/makeup routine, so I've saved a significant amount of money using coupons. Unfortunately Urban Decay, my favorite brand for eyeshadow, doesn't qualify. I'd also recommend keeping an eye out for beauty steals; I picked up some Tarte lip sculptor kits this month for 50% off. I love the shine on them, and the colors are fantastic and complement my skin perfectly. I mentioned the quality of service for the Orem location, and I have to give a shout-out to the ladies at this location for being friendly and knowledgeable. When a lip scrub I was interested in was out of stock, the employee I approached recommended the Bliss brand and walked me over to where it was located, picked it off the shelf, and put it in my hand, just the way I was trained to do when I worked in retail. I definitely prefer to shop here later in the evening because the parking lot gets so congested and drivers in this area are discourteous and don't pay attention to what's going on around them. I avoid this area like the plague on Saturday afternoons. Lazy Sundays are my favorite day to frequent this location. read more

Went to this location to pick up some last minute items before my trip to Vegas. As I walked in I ask an associate where the restroom was, she looked me up & down then pointed me in the direction of the restroom. When I got out of the restroom, she was pretty much right outside the restroom..looking in my direction. I started looking around, Everytime I would look at my surroundings that particular associate was there. To the point where I felt very uncomfortable. There was plenty of other customers in the store, yet I was being followed as if I was a thief. To the point I told the associate I don't appreciate being followed & I have money to pay for what I need. This associate laughed at me & denied following me..then proceeded to tell her co worker. This definitely seem to be racially motivated as I was the only Hispanic in the store. Sad that racial discrimination and profiling is still a thing. I 100% recommend this location! I purchased some makeup online as they were having a good sale on Jane Iredale products. One of the shades was too dark and they don't carry the brand in stores to do an even exchange. I was a bit worried because I didn't want to have to pay an upcharge to order my correct shade now that the sale was over. But Angie, the manager, was fantastic and figured out a way for me to repurchase at the sale price and not have to pay an additional $20 or so dollars. Thank you!! read more

Go there only if you know what you want and need no questions answered. I thought it was just the ones in Orange County, CA, but it seems to be the culture of no customer service. They all gather at the cash register and chat and those very few walking the floor, plug into their mikes and always act bothered when a customer needs help. This store has the worst customer service and all the associates have major attitudes. It is never stocked and the cashiers do not know what they are doing. I asked for a brand of product and the two that were gabbing (one being the manager) on the floor just said where it was instead of showing me physically. If they are doing something to a display don't interrupt them because if you do the attitudes just heighten even though you say excuse me like one should. I'm sorry if multi tasking can't be done If you are an older customer forget getting treated like an equal. I should have just taken my business to Sephora like I normally do. Wow. I am only writing this because I have never been so disappointed when I've gone in to get my hair done for a schedule appt. I left my house with the babysitter watching my baby and was so excited to get my hair done--I had it all planned out and sacrificed to leave my baby for it... when I got there my hairdresser didn't even know that I was there. She didn't even look phased that it was 7 pm my appt time and she was so working on a client. She was working on someone else and I sat there for a good 16 minutes realizing that this might not be my night. I left and told them that I had a baby I needed to care for and I was surprised that my hairdresser didn't even acknowledge me or that she was running late. I felt pretty crappy and sad. I've never felt that way after leaving a salon. My stylist FORGOT ABOUT MY APPT. I don't b reccomend the feeling I had to anyone so I recommend don't go to this place with Katherine as the stylist. read more

When I arrived to this Ulta looking for hair products I was hesitant after my bad experience in the midvale store. But within 2 minutes of me walking around the store a associate named Courtney came over and was extremely accommodating. Courtney was helpful throughout the whole process. She made me feel comfortable telling her my issues and helped me find the best solution. I've been using the Bumble and bumble shampoo & conditioner she recommended for 2 weeks now and I'm beyond happy. I want to point out that I rarely find a associate in places like this that listens and actually cares. But this girl did and it was amazing. I made a hair appointment last week for 2:30, the day of the appointment I check and it says 3pm then a few hours later 3:30pm. I walk in at 3:30 and the hairdressers are ignoring me so I check my phone again and they moved the appointment to 4:30. No texts or calls, I had to log in each time to see them moving the appointment up. I never write reviews but this just really seemed like bad service and time management (especially since I booked an appointment) and part of my day is gone due to them moving my appointment multiple times. read more

I've been a regular at Ulta through my years in California, Michigan, and Georgia, and was thrilled when I returned to Utah that Ulta had opened in Sandy. It's just such a good store. It has everything from drugstore beauty staples to high-end salon products. Once you get the Ulta card, you'll get lots of coupons and freebies (usually $3.50 off $10 purchase) Ulta has their house brand of cosmetics, hair products and beauty implements. I'm addicted to their Key Lime shower smoothie. They've got mascara that is much better than drugstore brands, but for the same price. They often have sales where you can get free products (buy 2, get 1 free) and cosmetic gift packs. The best hair dryer I've ever gotten was $30 at Ulta, and I've purchased many curling irons and flat irons there. If you have a problem with the tools, they are great with replacing or refunding. Don't forget to check out the clearance products...I've gotten Redken and Paul Mitchell styling products for $3 a pop. I like Ulta more than Sephora because there are more low-priced products. I can get Herbal Essences for my daughter and Bed Head for me in the same transaction. The salon has specials, and will sometimes do free services when it's not busy. I enjoyed my free ultrasonic facial last week. read more

I wanted to get my eyebrows tinted since they are blonde and you can barely see them! I went to ulta to get them done and it felt kinda rushed and like they didn't have the right supplies to do it. I like to stop by Ulta in Sandy, UT (Southtowne location) on Friday evenings because that is when I am in the area. For several visits now, I found that this store closes its doors much, much earlier than posted on their door. In fact, on occasion, it's been several hours earlier. I understand having a staff urgency once or twice, but it has been at least four times in the last couple of months. I can't believe that management allows this to happen more than once, let alone four or five times. It seems now like the staff has developed a habit of taking off early on Fridays, and it's incredibly unprofessional and irresponsible. I hope corporate offices or someone tries to resolve this soon. I don't try to go anymore because I am wary of the store being closed, so I save myself the drive and order online at Sephora because they give me free shipping. So disappointing. read more

I have never written a review for any shop before however I felt inclined to this time due to the lovely experience I just had! All the staff members were very friendly and helpful. Lexi in particular was so eager to help me find the products I needed. I also ended up getting my eyebrows tinted and tweezed by her! She's very informative and really curates your brows to how you want them. My brows actually look thicker now than they did before she fixed them:) it's so so nice to find an esthetician you can trust! I've seriously never been so happy with how my eyebrows looked and I definitely will be going back regularly to have her do them! This location is terrible. Tonight was third time I've rushed to get to this location before they close at 10 and they e been closed early. I've arrived at 9:46 and 9:50 and they were all closed up. They are supposed to close at 10:00pm. They ACTUALLY close around 9:40pm. Tonight Two employees were standing outside talking when I pulled up at 9:46 (I just needed to grab shampoo and conditioner that I knew exactly what kind and where it is in the store) and when I asked them if they were closed, they didn't even look at me when they said "uhh ya". I understand from experience that customers getting there last minute is inconvenient sometimes, but if the store hours are supposed to be OPEN until 10pm, then your job and what you're paid for is to stay open until 10pm and handle that type of shit if/when it comes up like a mature professional. Not only that, but every single time I've been in this location, the customer service is TERRIBLE. The girls that work there are so rude and I practically had to beg one of the employees to help with recommendations for a certain brand of foundation after I told her that the one I had I didn't like and She told me to get the exact same foundation I just told her I didn't like. Every time I come in there is someone willing to help me with my makeup struggles. They are very patient and knowledgeable.

I came with my friend to find a lightweight tinted moisturizer for each of us. Now it has been a while since either of us had changed our daily products so we decided to get color matched. The worker began with pointing at my acne and telling me that "that" would need a couple different products if I wanted to cover it. Which I wasn't looking to cover btw. Then looked at my friend who has fair skin and rosacea and tells my friend that she was making her life difficult because she was "too fair" to find a color match. Now, after those comments we should have went and found another MUA to color match us but we decided to let her finish the process. My friend got color matched first with endless comments about how difficult it is to color match her and when I walked away I overheard comments about how perfect her complexion was which felt like a direct jab at my acne that she commented on earlier. Finally it was my turn to get color matched, it was filled with endless comments about my acne and comments about how "pale" my friend is and that it was almost impossible to find a foundation for her. When we finally finished I immediately went to my friend to talk about the experience and realized that the worker had put full coverage foundation on both of us to cover our imperfections which we were not looking for at all. After looking at other reviews for this location it seems that rude workers are something that is not a new issue here so I really hope that something can be done to fix this but until then I will have to shop elsewhere. read more

I traveled to Salt Lake for a funeral in January, much in need of getting my hair highlighted. Due to the last-minute trip I didn't have time to get an appointment until the day before. I thought it would be impossible to find an open salon in Utah on a Sunday. After phoning for an appointment late on Saturday I arrived at the salon a few minutes early, just having driven in from Moab. I got THE best highlights ever at this Ulta location, on a Sunday afternoon. If you're thinking of hair services, do not hesitate to visit this salon. The colorist, Shannon, also gave me a great price on the service. Altogether a five-star visit. UPDATE: I tried to book a coloring appointment with Shannon in July 2013 and she is no longer there. Of course they wouldn't tell me where she is now working. I wouldn't give the salon a 5-star rating now, since the operator I praised isn't there anymore. read more

Got referred for highlights and spent three hours in the chair to come out darker than I walked in no visible blonde just over toned hair to an orange shade . They offered to fix it but said I have to wait a month to get any more lightener done. So I didn't get any cool blonde in my light brown hair just damage and orange that will eventually wash out from the toner. :( read more

The reviews made me nervous to shop here especially being new to skin care. All the employees wore masks and there were several sanitizer stations throughout. I normally don't like an associate to follow me because I always feel pressured to buy the most expensive products that are not right for my skin. That was not the case here. The greeter (can't remember her name) asked if I was looking for something specific. Not knowing anything about skin care I told her what my troubles were and the lack of routine I have. She was incredibly knowledgeable in skin care and knew which products would be best for my skin. (I was skeptic at first). I grabbed 2 items and also had a question about foundation. She passed me along to someone who knew her stuff. I described a brand but didn't know the name and she knew exactly what I was talking a out. It's summer and my complexion is darker. There are no testers and I was super worried a out picking a shade. But she matched me by losing the foundation to my check (with out touching me) and picked one out. I was pleased with my purchases and when I got home I tried everything. The skin care products were better than I could image and I have been using them everyday for 2 weeks. You can get almost any beauty need here at Ulta. They have all ranges of products from stuff you can buy at Target (like your Loreal, Maybelline, etc...) to the high end salon products. Hair, skin, nails, perfume... There is even a salon inside where they cut hair and do waxing. Price wise. You are pretty much paying full price for things unless you catch them during a sale where they have buy 2 get one free or if you have coupons. I love that they carry pretty much all salon hair products. Looks like I will be waiting for mine to go on sale though. They have most if not all perfumes that you'd be looking for. Nail polish galore. Nice makeup. Hair product( as mentioned) and a variety of hair tools. Look online before coming into the store for coupons you can print out in advance. As far as the staff at this particular store, they all seemed fairly helpful and nice. read more

My review is for Taylor, a great stylist in the Ulta Salon at the Sandy location. I went in without an appointment, looking for a much needed cut and update before going on vacation. I am in LOVE with my hair and it's all thanks to the time and attention Taylor took in trying to help me get my style exactly how I would like it. She asked many great questions as she went in order to get every detail right. And she was also fun and nice to talk with. Very enjoyable. She helped suggest products to me for certain looks and showed me where they were located in the store, but did not try to pressure me into buying them (but that low pressure customer service made me sure to buy the products she referred me to.) I walked into ulta hoping I could talk to an associate about bridal makeup and possibly setting up an appointment for a rep to do my makeup that day or a future day so I could get some advice and try new and different products. The girls there looked at me like I had 3 heads. They were not helpful and if they were confused with my purpose for being there, they didn't even ask any questions. The customer service in this store is awful. The boy that works there is rude too. I will go to Sephora as well for a makeup consultation. I started patronizing Ulta when they first opened. I was ALL over it. Retail beauty products (including a pretty solid line of Bare Minerals) and hair services all in one semi-convenient stop. Semi-convenient because it's located in Sandy's most congested shopping area of all time. But a couple of my favorite shops are adjacent, so I was okay making the multi-purpose trip into the abyss. That is, until I soon discovered that (1) their retail pricing is still very high compared to online, Walgreen's, or (gasp) Walmart. Sure it's great in a pinch when you need something quick not otherwise available locally, or when prom requires the purple glitter hair wax; but, for the LOVE, if you have time for shipping, do that! And (2) the staff here, from management to check-out are angry, bitter individuals who hate their jobs, and it translates into hate for the customers. It's not a mystery. To me, it's been quite apparent on a few occasions; like when the dead-eyed cashier acrimoniously told me that I "should call ahead next time," in response to my question about whether they currently have a specific item in stock that I couldn't locate on the shelf. That was the sum of the entire response, by the way. There was no simultaneous looking it up in the Ulta db, nor taking enough care to walk me back to check, nor summoning help from another staffer to assist...nope. I've utilized Ulta's hair services several times. The stylist I connected with eventually left after a year, because she couldn't stand the people and attitudes which abound, and even seem to be fostered at Ulta. I abandoned the idea of shopping at Ulta a while ago. But, I recently attempted to return a styling product that didn't work for me, and was told that despite the fact that I had the receipt, I was not eligible for a refund because it had been more than 30 days since purchase. Okay, fair enough. How about store credit? Nope. Sorry. Refund or store credit, they don't care. It's all the same, and they're not interested in keeping you, the customer, happy. I left, never to return. (Note: I returned the product to Target, who after my explanation about Ulta, exchanged it for me even though they knew up front I didn't buy it there.) Like Sephora, there are a ton of products in this store; makeup, hair products, skin care, perfume, and tools. Truly something for everyone. But, unless you feel like laying down a significant amount more cash for the same product AND taking some attitude home with it, seriously, shop elsewhere.
