To give you some context, I rarely wear makeup and too much makeup makes me nervous. So when I was asked what I wanted...I had NO idea. My overall experience was not good, but thankfully Sky made up for it with her professionalism and great work. I went in as a reccomendation from a coworker to get my lashes done. After reading a few recent reviews about this location, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed their customer service is downright pitiful. I have been shopping at this location since the day it opened in 2017 (only because it's close to where I live) and one thing that I have seen is that management is constantly changing... Today, I needed to grab a few items (monthly go-to run) so I placed my order online to be picked up in-store. Upon arrival, I walked in and was stared down by two cashiers that didn't bother greeting me. I walked up and told them that I'm there for an order pick-up. One of the women glared at me up and down in disgust and proceeded with "I NEED YOUR ID!!" - not at the pick-up counter, but at the cash register.. which normally never happens (I am a constant order-pick up customer so I know the process all too well). She looked at my ID for a good second, trying to figure out if it was really ME. She mumbled thank you and walked over to the pick-up counter. Before I took my order, I asked politely if it was possible they could price-match two items for me since I found them WAY cheaper at Target. She stared at me weirdly and said "No you can't..." I said, "Okay, then I don't want them anymore." Extremely annoyed, she told me to follow her to the register and then had "issues" giving me a refund... so she went on to say "I need to go get the manager...". I said, "That's fine.. take your time." As I waited, I purchased another item I forgot and five minutes later, Laura, the manager walked up looking miserable. I said "Hi!" to bring the somewhat tension down and I got nothing back from her. She said, "What seems to be the problem?" I said, "I wanted to price match two items but the lady said I couldn't so I don't want these anymore..." She sighed in annoyance and started the return procedure. At this point, a line started to form behind me because she took her sweet time. Before she could even finish "Okay your order number starts with a K---", I pointed out the order number on my phone. At this point, I was embarrassed (for their behavior) and livid at the way they were treating me, a customer. Today's behavior was unprofessional. She ended up refunding me for my items and I thanked her politely. She went on to tell me to sign the receipt and handed over my refund ticket. I told her, "Have a great day." and she mumbled, "Mmmhm, you too." I have been in the retail field for many years now besides being a marketing manager. Walking back to my car, I was extremely hurt and felt disrespected for the way they made me feel in the store. Like, what in the heck did I do wrong?? Did I hurt y'all that much for wanting to return two items? I am constantly shopping at this location! CONSTANTLY! This was by far the worst experience at the Laurelwood location. Wow. The negative reviews from other people are definitely warranted. I went to the Benefit Brow counter today. The "brow expert" spent the whole appointment bickering back and forth with other employees. When I tried to express what I was hoping for regarding brow shaping and that I only wanted a "clean up", she told me "no one is ever mad about my brows." I should have just ended the appointment right then, but already had hot wax on my face. So after chatting with her I then returned to where I saw the most RED clearance tags which was over by the haircare aisle under Shea Moisture products (Frizz Defense) - Wow!!! He said his favorite & took me to it. Out of a row of at least 30 colors he immediately picked the one for me. Shop elsewhere if you are a black woman. - My wife and I decided not to make a purchase after being followed around the entire shop today. I get that there are security concerns, that people make poor decisions and steal but it definitely felt like I was being racially profiled. When we arrived initally, we were greeted warmly and sought advice on cleansers. After some somewhat aggressive pitches, I felt obligated to accept the product but informed my wife that I wasn't certain that I wanted it so we decided to walk around and look for a specific brand. We were then trailed by a store associate throughout the entire store until we just decided to leave. It was a very uncomfortable experience. I recently visited Ulta at 4572 Poplar Ave. My entire experience was less than satisfactory. Not only was I not greeted when I entered the store, but I was left standing at the pickup counter for atleast 20 minutes. A white male who appeared to be apart of the staff (maybe a manager) kept avoiding eye contact and refused to acknowledge me standing at the counter, but when another customer entered, who happened to be white, she was greeted and assisted immediately. The man continued to carry on a conversation with another employee/customer, as I was left standing waiting for assistance. The store was not busy at all and in fact, there were atleast two other employees who were not assisting anyone at the time. Both of these employees walked past me as well. FINALLY, after a significant period of waiting I was assisted. This experience has left a horrible taste in my mouth and I will no longer visit this location. I find it extremely ironic how African-American customers are only visible to employees if they are being followed around the store. However, when it comes to needing actual assistance, employees are nowhere to be found or unwilling to help. I desperately wish I knew the name of the white, male manager who continuously refused to acknowledge me and intentionally looked over me as he greeted other guests. On 6/22/18 at 1:28PM I decided I needed to buy some items from the new Ulta on Poplar. After my experience I will not buy make up from Ulta! Or at least check then double check the make up to make sure they haven't been opened and tested from other customers. I went into Ulta at 4572 Poplar Ave #103 Memphis TN and wanted to purchase the Maybelline Dream Bright Cream concealer in MD/DP shade. I made my purchase and went to my car. While in my car I looked at the stick and noticed the make up had been smudged and the sticker seal had been broken. I immediately went back in and tried to exchange it for another one. I couldn't exchange it for a new one because ALL the seals on the sticks had been broken. So I tried going up a lighter shade...THOSE were broken as well! Eww! What the heck! So I just ended up returning the one I bought. The cashier Catherine was understanding regarding my return but didn't offer me another option. WARNING: My wife took my daughter over to Ulta Beauty for a $13 dollar trim after spending the morning deep conditioning and straightening her hair and left Ulta beauty with a $40 bill for their services. With no explanation or warning charged my wife for additional services. $10 additional for touching my daughters already straight hair with a flat iron for a few strands. After hearing this when she got home we called the store again and spoke with a salon manager. Thinking maybe this could be a misunderstanding. She offered no apology for any mistakes or attempt to understand the situation but only further lied about services provided during the visit in saying they straightened my daughters entire head. read more

Wish I could give less than one star. Horrible experience and the employees have a bad attitude. I went in to get some self tanner (with no make up on and in my pajamas). I browsed around and sprayed a couple of perfume samples on the little pieces of paper. I was just kind of looking around to see what all they had because I've been wanting to get more of my favorite Versace perfume but couldn't find it. Workers stared at me without asking if I needed help. When I got to the counter to pay, the lady told her coworker (in front of my face) to "go over there because she was over there" and that she needed to check for empty boxes. I understand there is a level of suspicion one must have when someone comes into the store obviously not looking my best, but to say something so insulting right in front of my face. I then ask her about a free gift that came with my purchase. (There was a free gift of an application mitt with a $29 purchase of self tanner) she acted as if I was stupid and just snapped at me saying "no". I was confused and asked why they had a sign that advertised a free gift and she says, "well I guess we'll see." After she finished ringing me up she immediately walked over to the perfumes to check them out. I left feeling embarrassed and insulted. I wish I had caught her name because, as someone who has worked in customer service for years, this is not the kind of person you want in your store interacting with customers. I've shopped this Ulta several times and found what I needed with good customer service. My latest visit, however, was awful. I had to return a couple of items. (One had clearly been used!) I went into the store for what I thought would take 5 minutes. No one was waiting at check out, so the sales associate promptly accepted my returned items. When it came time to credit the purchase back to my credit card, she told me it was necessary for a store manger to approve the transaction. The sales associate paged a store manager at least three times, but no one came to the front registers to finalize the transaction. After waiting 10 minutes, a manager finally came to the front registers, stuck in her key, and approved of the return. There's no excuse for such poor customer service. This Ulta is a nice store, but with such terrible customer service, from now on, I'll go across the street to Macys or Dillards when I want to buy makeup. read more
