For THAT I would have returned. However...many things about my experience were just unprofessional and I don't have time to mess around with it every time I want my hair done, so unfortunately, I won't ever return. I had a Groupon. While waiting for my stylist, another stylist told me the groupon was created because my stylist needed to practice doing women's hair again since she had worked at a barber shop for years. Even if this is the reason, I don't like knowing that I'm "practice". My highlights were shocking and took me some time to get used to. I did have to have a friend cut stray hairs because the cut wasn't even...but that's minor. All in all, my hair turned out lovely and as time went on, I began to really love it. What really upset me? It's not good when the stylist says "oops I may have gotten some on your clothes". At the time I brushed it off and hoped she hadn't. Two of my favorite shirts that I wore that day (cami and cardigan) have bleach spots on them. One of the shirts can be dyed but the other can not. :( There were other things about the experience that were unprofessional but I was OK with them at the time. Kind of unforeseen events and, as I said, the stylist was so sweet. Maybe I just had a weird experience. The salon itself was adorable and all the stylists are independent and rent their booths.

Ardent Salon is one of the few places that carries Euphora color in the Memphis area…read more Euphora color is extraordinary for shades of chestnuts, blondes, and browns - Euphora is probably the best on the market for those colors. My experience with the Aveda salon color system for those shades resulted in mostly colorless shades of bleached bone or platinum, while Euphora provides rich natural honeyed tones. Euphora toner manages to adhere color to my hair (which is very fine and very straight). My experience at Gould's Salon was the color did not adhere to my hair but washed out with the first rinse at the salon. If you've had similar experiences at other salons, try Ardent - you will get vastly superior results. Ardent's staff is friendly. WARNING DO NOT GO IF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR!!!…read more I honestly did not even want to,give this salon one star, but I have to put a rating. If Yelp allowed it, I would put a fourth of a star. Billy is a terrible stylist, who should just admit he can't handle natural hair, but was too greedy for the money to do this. Firstly, I should have known better because everyone had permed hair and one person was getting a perm as I was sitting there. Billy the stylist seemed nice and I had gone there four years earlier, but I came with my hair already blown out and just had him to flat iron it. This time I had my hair blown out but he took me to the bowl to wash my hair, something that I thought might be a good idea because I assumed that he would condition my hair pretty well afterwards. However, after he washed my hair twice, he only put conditioner on my roots and then put me under the dryer. After I came out my hair was a dry tangled mess. He then proceeded to blow dry my hair with a paddle brush tugging at it roughly. When he finished with the brush, he proceeded to use a fine tooth comb and comb through it. Again he was yanking my hair berating me for not allowing him to cut my hair as he wanted to ( he kept saying I needed a trim and even was bold enough to to tell my Aunt and mother that he would MAKE me trim my hair) purposely damaging it to the point that he wanted to cut. He then roughly ran a hot comb through my hair yanking it through as well. At the end he tried to disguise the damage by lightly bumping the ends under but it was very obvious that it was severely damaged and the ends were strings. To make matters worse he didn't use a leave-in conditioner before he blow dried my hair and neither a heat protectant before he began to flat iron. As a natural person we work very hard on our hair and to have someone to purposely damage your hair just to make a point is frustrating, heartbreaking, and infuriating. I had to put Shea butter in my hair to keep it from frizzing up because of the extreme lack of moisture and damage created by the passive aggressive stylist. However, I didn't let him ruin my weekend and enjoyed my brother's med school graduation and my cousin's high school graduation. And I will go back to Chicago and enjoy my beautiful life there and my budding legal career. Billy you don't win, in fact thank you because now I will be using my Olaplex every week instead of once a month. Can't wait to see how much more will my hair will thrive in the future.

Backstory: I had recently paid this stylist to do my sew in at a different shop. She did it and basically it was crap. The hair was cute but she braided my hair way too tight in the back and too loose in the front. I took it out and she was going to redo it and basically kept canceling on me. I was furious and desperate at this point. I looked like Celie from Color Purple. I called Hair Kingdom and LaRhon answered the phone and saved my life. He spent hours fixing the mess the prior stylist had created. He made me laugh, he stayed focused on my hair, and y'all... He slayed this sew in. Everyone in the shop can SLAY. I've seen it with my own two eyes. Give them a chance... you won't regret it!

BOTH times I was greeted immediately upon entry and walked straight to the shampoo bowl. My stylist, Rhonda, had me outta there in less than 90 minutes EACH time. In my experience, lots of places have you wait around for hours before it is your turn. Rhonda is timely and efficient. I have not received any other services at the salon. They also have a manicurist. I think there may be a couple of manicurists as there are two pedi chairs and two nail stations. For your convenience there are also vending machines with sodas and snacks. However, if Rhonda is an indication of how quickly they finish, you won;t need them. There are about 6 stations in all. I noticed that one stylists was doing sew-ins each time I came. I don't know if each stylist has a specialty or if everyone does a bit of everything. All of the stylists were polite and the shop feels laid back. Ladies, when you want that straight look, check out Rhonda. When you head to get your tresses laid, BE ON TIME, because Rhonda most certainly will be.
